Genshin Impact - Ruin Serpent Boss Guide

2 years 1 month ago

If there's one thing to know about Genshin Impact's new normal boss, The Ruin Serpent, is that it moves around a lot. Too much. To get to the Ruin Serpent, you'll need to have access to the underground area of The Chasm and the Surreptitious Seven-Star Seal Sundering quest must be completed. The Ruin Serpent costs 40 resin and also drops the unique Runic Fang item, which will likely be an Ascension material for future characters. It has a set of unique ooze-clearing mechanics, so make sure your Lumenstone Adjuvant is equipped when you're fighting this boss. The higher your Lumenstone Adjuvant level, the easier this fight is.

Elden Ring - How To Beat Radagon

2 years 1 month ago

You've come so far! After taking down Godfrey, it's finally time to venture through the doors of the Erdtree. Fittingly for a game as consistently punishing as Elden Ring, the "final boss" is really two bosses back-to-back. The first one you'll encounter within the smoldering trunk is Radagon of the Golden Order, the other half of Queen Marika and second Elden Lord.

Like all of the toughest fights in From Software games, taking down Radagon will require patience, concentration, and--more likely than not--dying a few times. Learning the attack patterns and getting comfortable is more important here than in any other fight in the game, as you'll be thrown right into the next boss arena without a chance to rest after defeating him. Here's everything you need to come out the other side Elden Lord.

What to know before going in

Just getting to Radagon requires defeating many of the hardest bosses in the game, so you should naturally be at a high level by the time you reach him. To make the experience as painless as possible, aim to be around level 150, with at least 40 points invested in Vigor to avoid getting one-shotted.

Going into the fight with a leveled-up Spirit Summon can make a world of difference. You want something beefy enough to draw aggro and survive a few hits from Radagon while you regroup and refill HP. Per usual, the Mimic Tear Ash is a reliable choice, even post-nerf. (Note: If your Spirit Summon dies here, it won't be around to help with the follow-up boss. If you're feeling confident, you can take on Radagon solo and hold off on your summon).

Hey, Look, Destiny 2's Xur Is No Longer Borderline-Worthless

2 years 1 month ago

Rejoice, mysterious-merchant-who-sells-tantalizing-items fans: Destiny 2's Xur is no longer bugged. After an extended period in which a bug was causing the armor he sold to have stats that made them worthless for many players, Bungie has sorted out the issue, and Xur is again worth paying a visit. The paracausal horse will no doubt be pleased, although a new issue has also emerged.

Xur visits Destiny 2 each weekend to sell a randomized assortment of items, including one Exotic weapon and one piece of Exotic armor for each class. While Exotic weapons are all identical to other copies of themselves, Exotic armor features stat rolls like any other piece of armor. And therein lies one of the primary appeals of Xur's visits: It's not only a way to fill out your Exotic collection with anything you may not have otherwise collected, but even if you have everything, it's a way to obtain Exotic armor that either has better stats than the version you already own or at least offers a stat allocation that is more conducive to your play style.

But due to a bug that Bungie only recently acknowledged, those stat rolls were supremely low on every item week after week since the launch of The Witch Queen. They've been bad enough that there was no reason to ever consider purchasing them, unless you were simply missing one of the Exotics from your collection. A patch that rolled out this week was said to resolve the situation, and we can confirm you're no longer condemned to Exotic items topping out at 48 stat points.

Tomb Raider Writer Wants Fewer "Father Issues" In New Game

2 years 1 month ago

Writer Rhianna Pratchett, known for writing 2013's Tomb Raider and the sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider, has reacted to the recent announcement of a new Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics. Speaking to Eurogamer at the BAFTAs, Pratchett started off by confirming she is not working on the game. Pratchett also did not work on the last main Tomb Raider game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Pratchett said she is "very excited" to see what Crystal Dynamics does with the next game, which was announced during Epic's State of Unreal event this week. It's still very early days for the game, and the only thing we know so far is that it runs on Unreal Engine 5.

Although Pratchett is not working on the next Tomb Raider game, she said it was fun working on Lara Croft as a character and shaping her journey in the recent trilogy. For the next Tomb Raider game, Pratchett said she hopes to see the story get rid of one element in particular.

"I would like to see probably less father issues," she said.

Additionally, Pratchett said she would like to see Lara Croft continue her journey to become a bonafide tomb raider.

"I like seeing her striking out on her own and really taking some joy in what she does. Because when we wrote the reboot game, she was really on her way to becoming a tomb raider. So she was like proto-Tomb Raider. And all the the traits that you associate with Tomb Railer like tenaciousness, bravery, resourcefulness, were kind of bubbling to the surface with her," she said. "I want to see that full fruition, I want to see the sassy one liners and things that I would have loved to have written. But, you know, she wasn't at that stage yet, she didn't have the confidence yet."

Halo Infinite Devs Are Looking For Feedback On The Game's Weekly Ultimate Rewards

2 years 1 month ago

Halo Infinite's weekly Ultimate Rewards have been a point of contention for fans, and now 343 Industries is looking to see how the system should evolve moving forward.

Weekly Ultimate Rewards come from completing every weekly challenge in Halo Infinite's multiplayer in a given week. Oftentimes these rewards are less desirable, like emblems and backdrops, but can occasionally be weapon charms, visors, or armor coatings.

In a tweet, Halo Infinite senior community manager John Junyszek asked fans what they thought would be a good middle ground in terms of weekly Ultimate Rewards. Considering the amount of time it takes to complete all the challenges in a week, having the Ultimate Reward be disappointing makes completing those challenges feel not worth the effort. Conversely, having a highly sought after reward makes players feel forced to play in order to unlock it, with players who have less time to play feeling like they are missing out.

Hot Drop: Apex Legends' Story Shouldn't Be About Its Heroes

2 years 1 month ago

Hot Drop is GameSpot's weekly Apex Legends column, in which Jordan Ramée takes a closer look at Respawn's battle royale to provide additional insight into the game's evolution, as well as dive deeper into its episodic storytelling and characters.

As more and more developers cleverly adopt the episodic storytelling of TV to create interesting storylines for their service games, it's becoming ever more clear that the differing media don't quite translate when it comes to hero shooters. As this is an Apex Legends column, I'm going to be talking about this topic within the context of Respawn's battle royale game, but it's important to note that this issue persists in pretty much every service game that uses hero characters.

The issue in question is the inherent immortality of the main characters for hero-focused service games. The structure of a service game is designed with longevity in mind--these are experiences that are meant to be played for years after release. As such, the stories for these games need to be written in a way that allows them to continue for years without drastic changes that would change how the games play.

That also means that the main characters of these stories typically have to exist in some sort of narrative rut. This structure would work if Apex Legends was a comedy--comedy-focused television series can get away with this structure, as it creates an established starting point for setting up skits or jokes in future episodes--but it falters when it comes to something more story-driven like a drama. Because in Apex Legends, that means that whatever situation has caused these characters to engage in the game's plot at launch needs to remain so that the character will too. And so there's less forward momentum to these characters' growth.

Microsoft Flight Simulator PMDG Boeing 737 in “Home Stretch”; F-4J Phantom Announced; RV-14 Gets Release Date; Kaohsiung Airport Released

2 years 1 month ago

Today third-party developers had plenty of news to share about upcoming add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

We start with PMDG, which provided an extensive development update about the much-anticipated Boeing 737 via CEO Robert Randazzo.

Basically, the aircraft is entering the “home stretch” and a release date will be decided next week and then announced.

We also get another confirmation that the 737 MAX will come at some point in the future (if there was any need for it since it has been mentioned and teased several times).

Below you can read the full update, which is quite meaty.

I am happy to report that we are rolling up on the end of the initial development and testing phase for the PMDG 737-700 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This has been a thorough, and thoroughly exhausting period of beta testing and we are very happy with the quality level now. We anticipate that during one of our meetings next week we will finalize the release date for this product and communicate it to you here in a specific, release planning announcement.

I want to take this moment to share a few more details of our plans for the PMDG 737 for Microsoft Flight Simulator product line.

Eventually our 737 product line will grow to include the entire Next Generation and MAX product lines. The initial release phase is focused on the Next Generation series and we are not yet publishing any information about MAX.

2 years 1 month ago

Black Desert Online is about to get a lot snowier as its latest Expansion - Eternal Winter - has finally arrived. Alongside taking players to the sweeping vistas and snowscapes of the Mountain of Eternal Winter, this expansion will come complete with a brand new story and voiced-over cutscenes, a new class that is descended from Dragons called Drakania, new zones and enemies, legendary gear, a bustling settlement to explore, and so much more.

To help get players ready for Eternal Winter, we are breaking down the seven biggest things waiting for players in Black Desert Online’s latest expansion.

Visit the Snowy Region Called the Mountain of Eternal Winter

One of the biggest additions in Eternal Winter is the Mountain of Eternal Winter, a brand new region that is filled with snow and incredible vistas. While it may seem beautiful on the surface, as you climb higher and higher up the mountain you will be met with blizzards that will damage your character and affect visibility.

New Players Can Jump Into Eternal Winter With Black Desert’s First New Starting Zone Since Launch

Black Desert Online first launched in Korea in 2015 and Pearl Abyss has added a TON of content since then. As with many MMOs, it can be very daunting for new players to jump in and feel as though they aren’t missing anything or are too under-leveled. Fortunately, Eternal Winter was built with new players in mind.

Ramadan Brings Muslim Communities Together, And It Deserves A Place In Games

2 years 1 month ago

Games often base in-game events on real-world celebrations, playing them out within the bounds of their own game world. A live-service game set centuries into the future where religion plays no part in the story will have an annual winter event that looks a lot like Christmas--engaging gamers worldwide even if they don't celebrate the holiday. However, Ramadan and Eid, events observed and celebrated by Muslims–the second largest religious population on the planet--is often left out.

Ramadan is an Islamic lunar month where Muslims fast from dawn to sunset--along with praying, giving to charity, and practicing patience and self-reflection. It's spent with the local and larger Muslim community, where people come together to strengthen their bonds and, at the end of fasts, indulge in food prepared especially for Ramadan. The month ends with a festivity called Eid al-Fitr where the day starts with a prayer and celebratory hugs followed by a day of jubilation.

There have been subtle efforts to include Muslim celebrations in games: Overwatch added Ramadan-themed lantern sprays, Horizon Forbidden West referenced Eid al-Fitr with a light show of lanterns and crescent moons, Animal Crossing had a player-led gathering as Muslims practiced social distancing, and Fortnite announced a worldwide in-game Lantern Fest inspired by Ramadan.

Bungie Offers Free Destiny 2 Emblem Code To Commemorate Fans' Art

2 years 1 month ago

Destiny 2 subreddits r/DTG and r/Destiny2 dedicated their time and pixels to r/place, Reddit's 4-day collaborative project where users can change the color of a single pixel every few minutes--creating an everchanging giant mosaic of pixel art. To remember this moment where teamwork from Destiny fans made a little corner for Destiny 2 in the r/place space--that's crowd-sourced art by millions of users on the 4 million pixel canvas--Bungie offers a free emblem.

For the Crushed Gamma emblem, head to your Bungie account and redeem the code: D97-YCX-7JK. After redeeming the code, players can collect this emblem from their Flair Collections tab in-game.

Destiny themed pixel art in 2022's r/place canvas

Defending their pixel art was no easy task because other Reddit users can easily build other art on top of their zone, yet r/DTG and r/Destiny 2 were able to keep their art of Telesto, the classic Ghost shell, the Traveler at the Tower, Vow of the Disciple raid boss Rhulk with the Black Fleet, the Ace of Space hand cannon, Savathun's symbol, and of course the names of the Destiny subreddit pages until the final image.

How Xbox Game Pass Became the Subscription Service to Beat

2 years 1 month ago

Four years ago, between the announcement of Xbox Game Pass and its launch, Microsoft’s vision for the “Netflix of games” had yet to come into focus. Phil Spencer and team Xbox were clear in its direction, though public perception surrounding the game subscription service was muddier: What did Game Pass mean for consumers? Was it sustainable for developers? How would it affect the future of game ownership?

Now, coming up on the service’s fourth anniversary, public perception has cleared, and the verdict is near-universal: Xbox Game Pass has been heralded as a cost-effective, accessible alternative to traditional game purchasing for many players.

As Sony takes a bigger step into offering its own subscriptions with its “all-new PlayStation Plus” and Nintendo has tried its own hand at a similar service with some of the benefits of Nintendo Switch Online, we’re taking a look back at how Xbox Game Pass has evolved since its inception, from an unproven concept to the backbone of Microsoft’s gaming ambitions.

Game Pass' Origins

Microsoft originally envisioned Xbox Game Pass as a rental service. The project was known internally as Arches, though the concept would never make it to market in that form. Microsoft, seeing the success of other media streaming services like Netflix and Spotify, pivoted toward a subscription model, and thus Game Pass as we know it was born.

Sonic Director Would Like To Make a Super Smash Bros Movie

2 years 1 month ago

Sonic movie director Jeff Fowler has said he would be interested in working on a Super Smash Bros. film adaptation but admits there would be a few legal hurdles to overcome.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Fowler was asked if he would ever like to helm a big-screen adaptation of the Super Smash Bros. franchise, having just come off the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie, which he directed following the first installment in 2020. He indicated that he was open to the idea of a crossover, though there would be a few logistics to consider.

"Nothing would make me happier than to just throw all the characters into a battle royale and do a big Smash Bros. thing. That would probably require some work from the lawyers before that could happen," Fowler said, contemplating what it would involve. "Getting Mario and Sonic in the ring, I mean everyone would be kinda dying for that, right? That's just classic."

As the outlet notes, Sega owns all of the characters from the Sonic franchise, but Nintendo owns Super Smash Bros and many of its associated characters, so there would likely be quite a few legal permissions to check off in order to merge the two in one film. Mario is, however, making his way to theaters later this year in an animated film from Universal and Illumination.

That MMO with the amazing character creator is free to keep right now

I've since read that the fantasy MMORPG is a pretty fun game too? But in all honesty, I'm downloading it mostly to make pretty/weird/monstrous wizards.

Reiterate is a solid hit of platformer... uh, juice?

2 years 1 month ago

The brutally hard one-hit platformer fad of the 2010s largely passed me by, and though traditionally I'd take this opportunity to slag both them and you off, I've nothing much against them as a whole. They just tend to bounce me off pretty fast, and a bit like with adventure games, when I get stuck I typically just get bored and do something else.

It took almost 70 levels for Reiterate to do that. That's a recommendation.

Elden Ring Speedrunner Beats Game In Under 13 Minutes

2 years 1 month ago

The latest speedrun of Elden Ring has seen the game completed in its quickest time yet, as YouTuber MitChriz achieved this feat in under 13 minutes.

Playing on PC, MitChriz's accomplished the blisteringly quick time in an Any% run, which allows for glitches and exploits to be counted. Using a combination of tricks to zip across the map, avoid roving mobs of enemies, and grabbing some handy gear along the way, MitChriz's weaved through bosses like Malekith the Black Blade and Hoarah Loux to clinch a 12:32 completion time. A world's first, according to the YouTuber.

Since it launched last month, Elden Ring has become a trendy game for speedrunners to explore. It wasn't long before hours of experimentation by the community saw the game beaten in under an hour, with that record being surpassed by new attempts. For another impressive feat, there's a recent no-damage run by Twitch streamer Seki that makes for three hours of intense entertainment.

Criterion's new Need for Speed will reportedly launch this November

2 years 1 month ago

Criterion's new Need for Speed game, which was delayed at the start of last year while the studio assisted the development of Battlefield 2042, will reportedly launch this November, skipping previous game consoles to instead focus on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

EA confirmed a new Criterion-developed Need for Speed game was in the works at the tail-end of 2020, slapping it with a vague release window of somewhere between April 2021 and the end of March this year. However, that launch was later delayed to EA's fiscal year 2023, with the publisher announcing it had made the decision to move Criterion away from Need for Speed to help DICE "deliver the best [Battlefield] experience possible to our players".

With Battlefield 2042 now launched, Criterion's attention has reportedly returned to Need for Speed, with EA said to be looking to release its long-awaited racer this November. That's according to VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb who, speaking in the latest episode his GrubbSnax show (thanks WCCF Tech), also claimed this latest series instalment will forego a console release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, instead targeting PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

A Call of Duty: Warzone Player Has Glitched Their Way Into Rebirth Island's Golden Vault

2 years 1 month ago

A Call of Duty: Warzone player has glitched their way into Rebirth Island's Golden Vault.

The mysterious vault was added during the Season Two Reloaded update in March and teased to be opened soon, but one impatient player has now managed to force their way in.

As reported by DualShockers, Twitter user @BobNetworkUK uploaded a video of the glitch (below), showing another player essentially push them through the vault door with a jeep.

The vault appears to be fully functional apart from its locked doors, as it's full of loot chests that open as normal. The weapons dropped are useless, however, as there's no way to glitch back out into the main map.

The previously mysterious doors were due to be unlocked soon as Infinity Ward had listed the "Golden Vaults Mystery" as a reward in its current Rebirth Reinforced event.

Rebirth Island, the smaller Warzone map, received a significant overhaul last month as several points of interest were altered and a brand new one, Dock, was added.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 vs AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT: budget GPUs compared

2 years 1 month ago

Even with some graphics cards dropping in price, the overall GPU availability situation remains pretty dire. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 and AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT both launched in recent weeks with the aim of reasserting some sanity, and to an extent, they have: while they’re not immune to bonkers inflation, they’re still relatively affordable, with unusually plentiful stock available.

Which, though, is the better buy? Both are 1080p-focused cards on sale for £300 or less, both sit at the bottom of their respective GPU hierarchies (the RTX 30 series and Radeon RX 6000 series), and both support ray tracing, so let’s break out the bar chart app and do some comparisons.
