The Ahn’Qiraj War Effort In World of Warcraft Classic Begins Today

3 years 9 months ago

It's time to come together and begin the effort against those big, bug bugs in World of Warcraft Classic. One of most epic events that ever graced the original World of Warcraft, the server-uniting effort to collect goods, smash giant insects, and open the gates to Ahn’Qiraj raiding is a huge deal. Becoming one of the Scarab Lords was a lofty goal back in yesteryear, and it will still be a coveted achievement in WoW Classic.

While things have certainly changed from the old days as players have meticulously min-maxxed every aspect of the game and have adapted to much more difficult raid mechanics as the norm, the race to take on C'Thun is going to be a good one yet again. With today's MMORPG environment including elements we didn't really have way back when - like extremely high profile influencers and streamers with giant Discords and communities - the effort should be a lot more coordinated and controlled this time around, and will probably go quite smoothly.

Red Dead Online gets legendary animals and naturalist role

3 years 9 months ago

Looks like you can take your clown makeup off - for now - as Red Dead Online has finally released a significant update, one that introduces legendary animals, a new naturalist role, and a fresh Outlaw Pass.

As detailed in the extensive patch notes, the biggest addition provided by the update is the new naturalist specialist role, which opens a path around "tracking, studying and hunting animals". The role introduces two new free roam events, two naturalist role-related stores, a wilderness camp that lets players create a temporary campfire, a Gypsy Cob horse breed and various new clothing items.

Like the other frontier pursuits, you'll need to splash a bit of Red Dead Online's premium currency, Gold Bars, in order to buy the item required to unlock it. In the case of the naturalist role this will set you back 25 Gold Bars (the same as the moonshiner role added in a previous update). If the hippie life appeals to you, visit the Welcome Center in Strawberry and talk to Harriet Davenport to get started.

EA will never let The Sims reality show become the hot mess it needs to be

3 years 9 months ago

We are half way through the inaugural season of The Sims Spark’d, a reality TV show based around being well good at The Sims. If you hadn’t heard, 12 Sim fanatics have been whisked away to… some studio, where they’re competing to win $100k by proving they are the bestest at The Sims 4. The first episode premiered last week on TBS, with the episode appearing on the BuzzFeed Multiplayer YouTube chennel the following Monday. Yesterday saw the second episode go up on YouTube as well. EA are as yet only dipping their toe in the murky sea that is reality TV, however, since Spark’d will only run for four episodes total.

Spark’d actually has all the ingredients that I love about terrible reality TV shows, plus it involves The Sims 4. On paper, it should be amazing. And indeed, there are already minor Twitter beefs between fans, and contestants complaining about the broadcast edit not showing the full truth. All classic stuff! But it’s clear that Spark’d will never achieve greatness unless EA loosens the apron strings enough to let their reality TV baby become a hot, hot mess.

Gabe Newell Thinks Xbox Series X Is Better Than PS5

3 years 9 months ago
Valve co-founder Gabe Newell has said that Xbox Series X is better than PS5 in his view. Speaking to The Project NZ, Newell was asked which of the two next-gen consoles was better, he said, quite bluntly, "The Xbox." When asked why, he said, "Because it is." "I don't have a stake in that race," he continued. "Obviously, we [Valve] do most of our development on personal computers, but of the two I would definitely go with an Xbox." The legendary developer didn't state any precise reasons for his opinion. Microsoft has made much of the fact that its console is, on paper, the more powerful of the two machines. You can compare what's inside each of the next-gen consoles in our Xbox Series X vs. PS5 comparison chart. He was appearing on the Project NZ show to discuss his recent lockdown-related stay in New Zealand, and the free event he's putting on to thank the country for its hospitality. PlayStation 5 feature which lets you load specific parts of a game detailed

3 years 9 months ago

PlayStation 5 has a planned feature which lets you load a specific mode or mission within a game directly from your console's home screen, and today we've heard a little more about it.

A now-offline Gamereactor article named the feature as Activities, and said it would act like a deeplink to specific sections of a game.

Specifically, in WRC9, it will let you load individual races from your PS5 desktop, skipping the need to boot the game normally and then navigate its own menus.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid physical edition coming October 8

3 years 9 months ago

Maximum Games has announced that it will publish a physical release of nWay's tag-fighter Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. A "Collector's Edition" will launch on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on October 8, priced at around $30.

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid Collector's Edition will feature the base title updated with its single-player story mode and balance tweaks. This edition also comes bundled with Power Rangers Super Samurai character Lauren Shiba. It should be made clear that this is not a "GOTY" style edition and - while it does feature a 16-strong roster - it does not contain all DLC characters released to date.

Red Dead Online Adds the Naturalist Frontier Pursuit in New Update

3 years 9 months ago
As promised last week, Rockstar has updated Red Dead Online with a new Frontier Pursuit. Today the developer has detailed the pursuit, which is called The Naturalist and focuses on tracking Legendary Animals. As a Naturalist, players will work with Harriet Davenport, who aims to protect and study the region’s rarest animals. You’ll be required to track these species, sedate them with the new Varmint Rifle, and draw blood samples to be handed to Harriet. A Revive Tonic can be used to rouse sedated animals so they are not left vulnerable to predators and hunters. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/05/red-dead-online-frontier-pursuits-trailer"] Naturalists can also brew other tonics, including Weight Loss and Weight Gain Tonics, and drinks that allow you to more easily sneak up on potential animal subjects. Other brews will mitigate weather effects. Alternatively, players may want to work for big game hunter Gus MacMillan, who will pay a generous fee for the pelts of these rare animals, and even tailor them into unique clothing. Animals can be more efficiently hunted with the new Elephant Rifle and its one-shot, one-kill Nitro Express ammunition. However, working with Gus will sour your relationship with Harriet, so you’ll want to choose wisely. Your targets as part of this Frontier Pursuit include seven new Legendary Animals, and each of those have three subspecies. An Animal Field Guide acts as a sort of Pokedex to complete while on your animal-discovery travels. Naturalists can learn new skills including Mercy Kill, use an advanced camera, and partake in two animal-based Free Roam Events: Protect Legendary Animals and Animal Tagging.

Modder Creates New Zelda Adventure in Ocarina of Time Engine

3 years 9 months ago
A modder known for working on modding Mario games has created an entirely new Zelda adventure. Along with a few friends, Kaze Emanuar created a new unofficial Zelda game in the Ocarina of Time engine, titled The Legend of Zelda: The Missing Link. This fan-made game takes place in between Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, the two Legend of Zelda games released on the N64. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-zelda-review-score&captions=true"] Thanks to borrowing Ocarina's assets, The Missing Link fits right in with the aesthetic of those legendary Zelda titles. The launch trailer for the game sets a melancholy vibe, similar to the tone of Majora's Mask. In a playthrough video on YouTube, Emanuar and CDi-Fails, who also worked on the game, go through the adventure while also talking about the creative process. Walking through Kokiri Forest, the creators talk about how they made the color palette darker to signify the passage of time. As for what's new, there's an original dungeon, and a new time travel mechanic not seen in either N64 Zelda adventure. The game only takes about an hour to finish, but it is complete with a final boss battle and a credit sequence. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/12/breath-of-the-wild-sequel-team-drew-inspiration-from-red-dead-redemption-2-e3-2019"] For more N64 news, check out the huge Nintendo source code leak from this week, where it may have been confirmed that Luigi was planned to be playable in Super Mario 64.

Out Today: Skater XL Is on Sale for 18% Off

3 years 9 months ago
Skater XL is now available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is scheduled to follow later in the year. Unlike most skating games, developer Easy Day Studios says, no tricks are pre-programmed into Skater XL. Instead, all the tricks you pull off are the result of your control inputs interacting with the game's physics. Each thumbstick controls one of your character's feet, so you'll have to twiddle them just right to pull off the tricks you want to do. The developers say this control scheme takes some getting used to, but it's fun once you get the hang of it. If you're ready to go all-in on Skater XL, you can pick it up now at a number of retailers.

If this teaser is anything to go on, DrinkBox could announce its next game soon

3 years 9 months ago

DrinkBox Studios hasn't made a bad game yet. I'm starting to think it never will.

The makers of Guacamelee, Severed, and Mutant Blobs Attack have begun teasing their next project, and given that history, it could be a sequel, a new property, or anything, really, and I'd be stoked.

The zoomed-in gif appears to show blinking eyes – or maybe that's just what they want us to think.

I'm convinced we'll get another Guacamelee one day – it's such a distinct world that's worth exploring even further – but I'm ready to see this team branch out if something else sparked their interest.
