Update: the official announcement of the Phantasy Star Online 2’s Steam release has been made by Sega. Including a release date and additional details.
The game will launch on Valve’s platform on August 5 and rewards are coming with the release.
Players who log into the game from Steam and complete a set number of quests will receive Gordon Freeman’s outfit from Half-Life 2, Alyx Vance’s costume from Half-Life: Alyx (alongside her hairstyle), a Headcrab emote, Pyro’s Gas Mask from Team Fortress 2, and several weapon camos.
On top of that, we also learn that Episode 4 will launch on the same day, bringing the first large content update to the western version of the game.

Today an official Steam page has been opened for Sega’s popular MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2.
The page is accessible on Valve’s portal (spotted by Twitter user Linoano), but for the moment it doesn’t have a release date.
This shouldn’t be surprising considering that more PC platforms were promised with a recent trailer. This adds to the currently released platforms, Xbox One and Windows 10 via the Windows store.
A while ago, Xbox division head Phil Spencer himself went on record mentioning that the game will likely make it to other platforms. The game is available for PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan, but no further information has been shared about additional console releases for now.
In the meanwhile, Sega recently announced Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, which will basically be a new game operated in parallel with the original Phantasy Star Online 2.
The announcement of New Genesis included the mention that it would be released on all platforms PSO2 is available on, which means that it’ll likely come to Steam as well.
The original game will, in turn, receive a visual upgrade to bring it in line with New Genesis’ graphics. Players will be able to use the same accounts and characters to play both games.
