This and all other modes can be played online**, too!

100 classic minigames return from the Nintendo 64 and Nintendo GameCube™ games and more!

Try your hand at a Superstar collection of minigames from throughout the Mario Party series. Whether you are saving up coins for stars in board game mode or practicing in free play, there is nothing quite like being the last one standing in Mushroom Mix-Up or Shy Guy Says. All minigames are played with button controls, so you can stick to the Joy-Con™ controller or bust out the Nintendo Switch™ Pro Controller or a Nintendo Switch Lite system.

Metroid Dread Rises From the Ashes, Gets Reveal Trailer & Release Date

2 years 10 months ago

Mteroid Dread has reappeared with an official trailer and a release date, and both are cause for celebration.

During the E3 2021 Nintendo Direct livestream held on June 15, Metroid Dread was officially unveiled via a lengthy gameplay trailer. The trailer also came with a firm release date for the title, which will launch on Oct. 8 on Nintendo Switch.

The trailer starts with Samus exploring an unknown space station. She happens upon a white robot able to contort and shift its body at will. She tries to fight it off, but it appears to shrug off all of her attacks with ease. Seeing this, Samus chooses to flee, running further into the space station.

from there, the trailer changes over to gameplay footage, revealing that Metroid Dread will be a 2D Metroid title. Samus can be seen running left and right through the station, blasting enemies and platforming to different sections of areas.

It all culminates in a scene of Samus once again facing down the robot, which now appears more damaged than before. Whether or not Samus can put it down for good, though, remains to be seen.

It’s about all that Metroid fans could hope for, and a great taste of what’s to come. The full trailer can be viewed down below.

Shin Megami Tensei V Release Date Set For November

2 years 10 months ago

At today’s E3 Nintendo Direct presentation, we finally got a release date for Shin Megami Tensei V. On November 12, players can finally catch a collection of demons all over again. Save the world? Doom it to chaos? Create a bold new order of law? If the other Shin Megami Tensei games are any indicator, we’ll have many of the same systems and structures coming back for another go, this time on the Nintendo Switch.

The Shin Megami Tensei series is actually the parent franchise to Persona, which over the years became more popular. Shin Megami Tensei titles eschew the high-school time mechanics and relationship building of Persona and are more about hardcore dungeon crawling. Fans of Persona will recognize aspects similar to the Velvet Room with things like the Cathedral of Shadows, where players can collect, combine, and assemble a perfect demonic composition in order to take on challenging and often unforgiving battles. The difficulty level of Shin Megami Tensei games is often on the top end of JRPGs, which has led to a bit of a notorious reputation. Clever use of buffs, debuffs, and correct demons for the job makes things easier, but you can’t just mash the attack button to get through them in most cases.

Metroid Dread Announced For Switch

2 years 10 months ago

For years, gamers have grumbled about the dearth of 2D Metroid experiences on home Nintendo consoles. At times, it has seemed like Nintendo simply isn’t paying attention to how much its players love the classic 2D experience of navigating Samus through a vast interconnected 2D world. But all that is set to change this October, when the newly announced Metroid Dread is set to release.

The surprise announcement was part of today's E3 2021 Nintendo Direct, and we saw an extensive trailer showing off some of Samus’ adventures in this new game, which was also informally introduced as “Metroid 5.”

In the game, a focus appeared to be on Samus’ flight away from a large multipedal robotic nemesis, name E.M.M.I., who chases her through the tunnels and pits of the game world. In addition to an increased focus on the fear element implied by the title, the video showed a number of different moves from Samus, from sliding underneath low overhangs, to melee uppercuts against enemies, a wall-climbing ability, and even a black camouflage that hides her from the robot’s scanners. We also saw a variety of big and scary monsters to fight.

The reveal of Metroid Dread is notable on a number of counts. For several years, Nintendo has seemed reticent to put a brand-new, mainline entry in the series on its flagship home console, but Metroid Dread seems to reverse that trend, bringing us the first brand-new story based in a 2D game in approximately 19 years, and it's being built for the Switch.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water Announced for Nintendo Switch

2 years 10 months ago

During the Japanese version E3 2021 Direct livestream, Nintendo revealed a Switch port of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water.

The game was originally released in 2004 exclusively for Wii U by Koei Tecmo, and now it’s coming back with the addition of photo mode and new costumes. It will be released on Switch in 2022.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game, here’s an official description from the Wii U version.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is comprised of three interconnected stories that converge to uncover the truth behind a recent string of tragic deaths in a forest marred by a history of suicides. As one of three people with the power of the Camera Obscura and the ability to see the shadows of those spirited away, you’ll explore the ruins of an eerie inn, a shrine filled with life-size dolls, and a lake full of dead priestesses. Each shadowy location is connected by a stream of water flowing throughout the mountain, and this once holy water is tied to the darkest mystery of all—the history of death and darkness on Mt. Hikami.

2 years 10 months ago

Today, during the Nintendo Direct E3 2021 presentation, a brand-new trailer for the next DLC fighter coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Kazuya Mishima from the Tekken series. There wasn’t a huge gameplay showcase, but Kazuya appears to have a large moveset.

We also got a look at Devil Kazuya in the trailer. This version of the Tekken fighter isn’t a separate character in Smash, but it appears that he’ll switch forms to power up certain attacks and to use his final smash which fires multiple beams of energy from his body and wings.

It’s currently unclear how you’ll be able to use Kazuya’s devil form, but the trailer showed him transform after taking out multiple enemies. But we’ll know for sure on June 28 when Sakurai will be doing another one of his character showcases.

It’s currently not yet known when Kazuya Mishima will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. But you can be sure that we’ll report on any additional information as it becomes available. You can check out the official fighter reveal trailer for XXXX down below.

Guardians of the Galaxy Will Release On Nintendo Switch

2 years 10 months ago

Today, during the Nintendo Direct for E3 2021, it was confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy will be coming to Nintendo Switch on Oct. 26. Fortunately, we were spared the full-game let’s play that was showcased during the Marvel, erm, I mean the Square Enix press conference the other day. Got to leave something to the imagination for Switch fans.

Other than the new platform, nothing new about Guardians of the Galaxy was mentioned during the spot during the Nintendo Direct that we didn’t already learn from the initial reveal that you can read about here.

What is interesting enough to mention is that the there was a note that said the following: “Footage representative of visual quality under optimal conditions. Persistent high-speed internet connection required.”

Metroid Dread is finally real, out October

2 years 10 months ago

Metroid Dread, the sequel to Metroid Fusion, has a long, long history of being vapourware. But now, after almost 20 years, it is real. Really.

Nintendo has just announced Metroid Dread will launch for Switch on 8th October. A subsequent Nintendo Treehouse presentation confirmed it was being developed by Nintendo and Metroid: Samus Returns studio MercurySteam.

Footage revealed during today's E3 Direct showed Samus being chased by a robot through various side-scrolling 2D environments. (Of course, both Samus and the robot, EMMI, are also being turned into new amiibo, alongside a Metroid Dread Special Edition)

Hyrule Warriors Is Getting An Expansion This Week

2 years 10 months ago

Today during Nintendo's E3 Direct presentation, the publisher revealed an expansion pass for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which first released back in 2020. The expansion becomes available in just three days on June 18, Nintendo revealed.

Called "Pulse Of The Ancients," this is the first wave of two expansions planned for Hyrule Warriors, developer Koei Tecmo's musou game set in the Legend of Zelda universe. A brief trailer unveiled during the Direct showed the expected large-scale battles but also provided glimpses at controllable guardians, new weapons, and even Zelda riding a motorcycle – much like the one added in Breath of the Wild. A splash screen after the trailer expanded on the new additions, revealing the expansion would bring an "Apocalyptic" difficulty, new challenges in the Royal Ancient Lab, and new enemies, such as higher-ranking Wizzrobes and a Giant Chuchu.

Kazuya from Tekken is the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character

2 years 10 months ago

Kazuya from Tekken is the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character, Nintendo has announced.

Revealed during the Nintendo Direct show, Kazuya in Smash has many of the moves Tekken fans are familiar with, including Spinning Demon and Stonehead. He's even got his famous 10-hit combo.

The announcement video includes a cutscene showing Kazuya chucking existing Smash characters off a cliff - that's a reference to the famous Tekken cutscene in which Kazuya's dad, Heihachi, chucks Kazuya off a cliff.

Tekken's Kazuya Is Joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

2 years 10 months ago

Today’s Nintendo Direct kicked off with the announcement of a new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter. Kazuya Mishima of Tekken fame is making his way into the crossover fighter, and he’s got a volcano big enough to toss all of his victims into.

Kazuya is one of Tekken’s most popular and longest tenured characters, appearing in most of the mainline entries. He’s generally regarded as a villain, and if you don’t think he is, his menacing red eye, evil cackle, and ability to transform into a literal demon would prove otherwise. His moveset appears largely identical to his Tekken arsenal but has been translated to fit the style of Smash, of course. Kazuya can also utilize his powerful devil form to wipe the floor with his opponents. Check out the trailer below.

Click here to watch embedded media

The reveal trailer shows him taking his iron fist to Smash’s many opponents, including his own father, the equally villainous Heihachi Mishima. This likely confirms that Heihachi will serve as an echo fighter to Kazuya. I’m most excited to pit Kazuya against Ryu and Ken to renew their Street Fighter X Tekken rivalry (but not Tekken X Street Fighter. That would be ridiculous).

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Update Adds New Game Mode and More

2 years 10 months ago

The latest update for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla went live on all platforms today and added a new game mode, skills, and more.

The biggest addition in the 1.2.2 title update is the new game mode called Mastery Challenge. Numerous shrines have now been hidden around the in-game world, and interacting with them give trials that will test either combat, range, or stealth. The trials give unique rewards that will “show your Mastery and give you more options in combat.”

Although, players will need to be Power Level 221 and have completed the Uninvited Guests main quest after reporting on Grantebridgescire and Ledecestrescire to access the new Mastery Challenge game mode.

Eivor received three new skills in the update such as using their bow ability while mounted, automatically rotating to block incoming attacks by holding up their shield, and Eivor’s sprint becoming unblockable and knocking enemies back at the cost of stamina while in combat.

The update also refreshes River Raids with increased rewards alongside a long list of improvements and fixes like an issue that caused a “Bonus Content Unlocked” message to appear when the game autosaved. Check out the full patch notes here.

Ubisoft announced earlier this week during its E3 presentation that it plans to release The Siege of Paris DLC sometime this summer and will continue to support Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with free updates.

Xbox's Summer Game Fest demo event starts today

2 years 10 months ago

Alright, we've already had shows and big game announcements as part of this year's all-online E3 week, but how about actually playing some upcoming games? If you've got an Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S, you're in luck.

ID@Xbox's Summer Game Fest demo event kicks off today, and we now have the full list of 40 game demos available for players to try. Gorgeous sci-fi adventure Sable is in the mix (which I'd thoroughly recommend trying out based on my own hands-on time with the game). There's also Tunic, a Zelda-like game with a fox as the main protagonist.

Elsewhere on the list, you can also find Black Book - a dark RPG adventure based on slavic myths in which you play as a young sorceress and fight in card-based battles. Arietta of Spirits is a retro-inspired adventure telling an emotional story of a girl and her family who visit her grandmother's cabin for the first time since she passed away. Echo Generation, meanwhile, is a turn-based adventure game with a real Stranger Things vibe to it:

Mechajammer is a cyberpunk RPG with neither mechs nor jam

2 years 10 months ago

If the gruesome look of cyberpunk RPG Death Trash doesn't quite do it for you, then perhaps the more grungey style of Mechajammer will. It's an upcoming open-world game influenced by 80s action films, and it's set in a cyberpunk city surrounded by killer jungles on an alien planet. In the trailer I've spotted: cool motorbikes, very good eyepatches, and futuristic guns that make very good "pewpewpew" noises.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania Collects The Best Monkey Ball Games

2 years 10 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

Just in time for Super Monkey Ball’s 20th anniversary, Sega is releasing a collection of Super Monkey Ball games for the Switch. This collection includes remastered versions of Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2, and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. These are widely considered some of the best games featuring monkeys in balls.

If you’re not familiar with the series, the original Super Monkey Ball was originally released for arcades in Japan but was ported to the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. The game is fairly simple: you control a monkey who is trapped in a clear ball and you must navigate them across a series of odd stages and help them collect bananas (if I know anything about monkeys it’s that when they see a banana they must run after it). That first game, and its sequel, were both surprise hits. They were also surprisingly engrossing and packed with fun minigames, which made them great for groups of friends.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that Sega has bundled the first two games together. In 2005, the company released Super Monkey Ball Deluxe for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. However, this bundle also included a handful of original levels. Sega is marketing Banana Mania as a collection of the first three Monkey Ball games, but it’s worth noting that Deluxe wasn’t wholly original. Thankfully, Banana Mania will also include the additional content originally featured in Deluxe.

In a Loaded Show, Forza Horizon 5 Was Xbox’s Most Impressive Showing

2 years 10 months ago

Xbox and Bethesda’s E3 2021 show, at least as of the time of this writing before Nintendo has gone, has felt like the only presentation this year that was generally solid from beginning to end. It wasn’t just good by comparison either, it was a highly entertaining show that was laser-focused on new games coming to the Xbox Series X | S both in the near and far futures.

While big-name games such as Starfield and Halo Infinite captured the imaginations of many gamers, that’s honestly the best they could do since they were quite light on gameplay, especially the former having shown none at all during the presentation.

The game that did the real heavy lifting during the show, at least as far as Xbox’s internal exclusive games are concerned, was the newly announced Forza Horizon 5. The Forza series, through a lethal combination of quality and a consistent release schedule (looking at you Gran Turismo), has brute-forced its way into the spotlight as the première racing franchise in gaming.
