Lords of the Fallen Developers Promise Xbox Patch in 'Coming Days' to Bring it to Parity

6 months 2 weeks ago

CI Games has announced that it is currently working on a patch to bring the Xbox version of Lords of the Fallen up to par with the PC and PlayStation versions.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the content creators who have worked with us to enable the rapid deployment of patches, updates, and performance improvements ahead of tomorrow’s exciting launch of Lords of the Fallen,” the developer said in a statement.

“As such, PC and PlayStation 5 players will be able to enjoy the game as intended. The Xbox version is currently being updated, bringing it to parity with the other platforms, and the patch will release over the coming days.”

Some players have said that the game suffers from technical issues on Xbox Series X, such as harsh frame rate drops and textures not loading in. It doesn’t seem like other platforms are experiencing these problems as often as Xbox is.

It's Official: Nintendo Reveals Mario's New Voice Actor [Update: And Luigi, Too]

6 months 2 weeks ago

Who is Mario, really? It's a question the internet has been asking since the retirement of long-time Mario voice actor Charles Martinet, as they pondered who might be replacing him as the voice of the iconic Nintendo plumber. And it's a question I had been obsessed with for the last 24 hours or so. Yesterday, both the internet and I thought we had finally found the answer in an actor named Mick Wingert. But Wingert's denial of his own potential Mario-ness threw me into total bafflement.

Now we have an official answer: Nintendo has confirmed that Mario's voice in Super Mario Wonder is not Mick Wingert, but Kevin Afghani, who is taking on the role of the iconic plumber as well as his brother, Luigi.

"Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder," Afghani wrote on Twitter. "Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!"

Mystery solved. But it took a while for us to get here.

Alien: Isolation mobile follow-up Alien: Blackout being delisted this October

6 months 2 weeks ago

Alien: Blackout, the Amanda Ripley-starring survival horror that launched on mobile back in 2019, is being delisted from the iOS App Store and Google Play on 31st October.

Alien: Blackout follows Amanda Ripley (daughter of Ellen Ripley) as she attempts to guide four survivors to safety aboard the Xenomorph-infested Mendel Station, viewing their progress through security cameras and via an overhead station map.

It's officially "not related" to Creative Assembly's superb 2014 first-person horror Alien: Isolation, despite being set just a few days after the game and sharing a protagonist - although that bit of information wasn't revealed until Blackout's announcement began to draw ire from fans angry at what appeared to be a sequel releasing exclusively for mobile.

The actually decent Alien: Blackout will be delisted soon, so play it while you can

6 months 2 weeks ago

How about a little something to lower your spirits? FoxNext have announced that they're delisting or, ugh, "sunsetting" 505 Go's Alien: Blackout, the surprisingly solid mobile and tablet horror game you could summarise as Five Nights at Freddy's, if Freddy's were a subsidiary of Weyland-Yutani. You've got until 31st October to play it, after which all development and support for Blackout will cease and the game will no longer be available to buy.

Starfield Mod Replaces Every Ship in the Game With Thomas the Tank Engine

6 months 2 weeks ago

You don't have to wait any longer: the most essential mod to any Bethesda RPG is here and, as per usual, it will fill your game with Thomas the Tank Engine.

The mod, which is now available for any PC player to download, converts all starships into Thomas the Tank Engine, complete with those lidless, dead eyes we know and love.

If you're wondering why it took so long for such a critical mod to be brought to life, it's because the modding community only recently completed most of the work necessary to make modding Starfield much easier, including making it function with the popular Nifskope editor. Meanwhile Bethesda's own Creation Kit, which the company plans to provide itself next year to make modding easier, is still under development.

Of all the games that players create mods for, none are more popular than Bethesda's, whose past releases hold all of the top five positions for most mods downloaded for a single game. Even without the Creation Kit, Starfield already enjoys a passionate modding community with over one million mods downloaded for the game so far.

Longtime Bethesda fans will remember the iconic mode from The Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim, which replaced all the scary dragons with far more terrifying trains, but if you haven't seen it, it's never too late to download it here. In fact, this meme might be more than a little bit to blame for the recent indie game Choo-Choo Charles.

Admiral Ryokugyu Voice Actor Replaced in One Piece

6 months 2 weeks ago

one piece ryokugyu

Admiral Ryokugyu will appear in next week’s episode of One Piece (Episode 1079), and he has a new voice actor. When he previously appeared in the show, Keiji Fujiwara voiced him. However, from his next appearance and onwards, Junichi Suwabe will portray the character. This is because Fujiwara passed away in 2020 from cancer.

In One Piece, Ryokugyu (or Aramaki) is an admiral in the Marines. He first appeared after the time skip and debuted during the Levely Arc. However, it was not until the end of the Wano Country Arc when readers and viewers got to see his full appearance or learn his real name.

Keiji Fujiwara was a prominent and well-known voice actor who portrayed major roles in a wide variety of anime and games. Since his debut in the early 1990s, he went on to play characters like Hiroshi Nohara in Crayon Shin-chan, Maes Hughes in both Fullmetal Alchemist series, and Axel in the Kingdom Hearts series.

His replacement, Junichi Suwabe is also someone who debuted in the 1990s and should be a familiar voice for many anime and game fans. Some of his popular roles include Grimmjow in Bleach, Victor in Yuri!!! On ICE, and Archer/EMIYA in Fate/stay night.

EA Sports FC's turn-based tactical spin-off arrives "early 2024"

6 months 2 weeks ago

EA has shared more details on EA Sports FC Tactical, its previously announced free-to-play turn-based football spin-off, confirming it'll launch for iOS and Android "early 2024".

EA Sports FC Tactical was first mentioned during EA's grand unveiling for its new-look football series back in July. At the time, information on the game was limited, but the publisher has now shared a little more as pre-registration opens via the iOS App Store and Google Play.

EA says Tactical is all about "in-game strategies, such as stamina and power-play management", and it reimagines EA Sports FC's usual match action as a turn-based experience, with opponents taking it in turns to defend, attack, perform skill moves, and attempt to score goals.

Harvest Island is a lovely farming sim with no horrifying undertones whatsoever

6 months 2 weeks ago

It's a beautiful day on the island. The waves are nibbling playfully at the shoreline, the farmyard animals are shuffling about happily in their pens, your little sister is bouncing around being a perfect nuisance like always. Time to get busy, then. The cows need to be milked, the eggs need to be gathered from the chicken coop, the seeds need to be sowed and watered.

You might find an hour to do a bit of scavenging, here and there - gathering mussels from the rocks at low tide, or putting aside some wood for that pier your dad asked you to build. Just, don't forget the gods. The gods have needs too. Today it's crabs. Tomorrow? Who knows.

The Fate/Samurai Remnant Switch Version’s Better than I Expected

6 months 2 weeks ago

The Fate/Samurai Remnant Switch Version’s Better than I Expected

When a game is coming to multiple platforms at once, there can be a concern about which version might be best. Especially if one of the platforms might be considered less technologically impressive than the others. I was almost wondering this about Fate/Samurai Remnant and its Switch version, especially since I thought the trailers were gorgeous. However, it’s a situation where yes, this iteration is absolutely fine. It might not be as fluid and impressive as, say, the PS5 or PC one, but it’s still well worth the time.

Of course, there are really no issues in combat. I didn’t notice any lag. An ample number of enemies would appear. Given that Fate/Samurai Remnant relies more on observing enemies to know when to use a heavy attack against opponents glowing red, certain enemies are shielded, and boss-type foes’ guard is down, it’s clearly different from other Musou games. Yes, your fights typically won’t be “fair” in terms of numbers. But this isn’t a situation where you’re always against hundreds. Enemy numbers can be in the 10s, 20s, and 30s, which ensures things move at a good pace.

Nintendo Talks How Mario And Zelda Have Stayed Relevant for Nearly 40 Years

6 months 2 weeks ago

Ever since Nintendo's flagship franchise burst onto the scene nearly 40 years ago, the Super Mario Bros. franchise has maintained its popularity, relevance, and status since its revolutionary debut entry. But it's not alone; the Legend of Zelda series, which started around that time, also remains a genre leader all these decades later. During our discussions with Nintendo during our Super Mario Bros. Wonder cover story (and other interviews earlier this year), we tried to drill into why these franchises – in particular, the Mario franchise – have maintained their popularity and level of quality while so many other series have struggled to hold onto it for even a fraction of the time.

According to Mario series producer Takashi Tezuka, the tenure of the staff involved is a key part of keeping series like Mario and The Legend of Zelda as industry leaders. "Many of them have been working on these franchises for a long time," he says. "For example, Mr. [Eiji] Aonuma became a part of the Zelda team at some point and has been there throughout, and for Mario, it's myself! I think something that's very important to the Mario series, of course, is the level-design philosophy."

Earth Defense Force 6 gets Western Release Window and New Trailer

6 months 2 weeks ago

Earth Defense Force 6 Western Trailer

Sandlot and D3 Publisher released a new trailer announcing that Earth Defense Force 6 will finally be making a worldwide debut sometime in Spring 2024. The game originally released in Japan back in 2022. At the time, it experienced a strong launch week. The companies also released DLC featuring Hololive Vtubers as deployable decoys.

The worldwide announcement trailer begins with a news broadcast before shifting to what appears to be an in-universe propaganda video filled with the series' trademark campy dialogue and numberless hordes of enemies. Gameplay footage in the latter half of the trailer shows off the game's more muted and gravelly color palette as soldiers fight amongst the ruins of a ravaged Earth.

See the Item Crafting System in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

6 months 2 weeks ago

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Item Crafting

Square Enix shared a new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth clip showcasing the new item crafting system. Players can collect ingredients from the field and use recipes to create new items on the fly. Each time a player creates a new item, they will gain experience to level up their crafting skills. Some recipes require reaching a minimum crafting level in order to be able to create new items.

Some of the initial items that players will be able to craft in FFVII Rebirth include Potions, Mist Potions that recover 350 HP to all allies, Phoenix Medicine (known as Phoenix Down in English), Antidotes, Smelling Salts, and Echo Mists.

In particular Mist Potion, Phoenix Medicine, and Echo Mist appear to require a Crafting Level 2. If players don’t have enough ingredients for a particular recipe, these recipes will be marked in red. As players find new recipes and hone their crafting skills, they will be able to create increasingly rare items.

You can take a look at the new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth item crafting system clip here:

Van Gogh Museum Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat Pokemon Card Returning

6 months 2 weeks ago

The Pokemon Van Gogh Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat trading card will return as a promotion at the Pokemon Center store.

There’s an update on the ongoing Pokemon and Van Gogh Museum collaboration, this time involving the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat trading card. The item became unavailable after its initial announcement and release, as it was tied to specific pieces of merchandise. However, it now confirmed that the cards will be back as a purchase bonus if people but a certain dollar amount of merchandise.

As a reminder, at the beginning of October 2023 the Pokemon at the Van Gogh Museum promotion kicked off. This also led to the promotional Pikachu trading card for the Pokemon offshoot. Tie-in merchandise like a Pikachu plush, Eevee figure, bags, journals, wall art, and Pokemon TCG items like a playmat, deck box, and card sleeves. All of the items sold out, as did the card.

The new pruchase, when again available, will be available with $30 purchases. That is before shipping is factored into the equation. The plateau also means people would qualify for free shipping, as that has a $20 minimum at the moment.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Patch Fixes NPC Trainers, Pokemon Home Transfers

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Patch Fixes NPC Trainers, Pokemon Home Transfers

Nintendo announced the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet patch is live and fixes issues with both NPC trainers and Pokemon Home transfers. Both the main game and latest The Teal Mask DLC had issues preventing people with the game recording if you won certain battles. At the same time, there was a problem with certain sorts of Pokemon transfers, depending on the origin.

With the trainer situation, Nintendo noted two specific sorts of situations that could be problems. It brought up the Pokemon League representative and Ogre Clan members. With the fix, it means that the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet NPC trainers can be fought again once the update is applied.

As for the issue with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet transfers from Pokemon Home, that specifically involved Pokemon GO characters. Nintendo pinned down that people who were trying to get Pokemon caught in the mobile game transferred to the storage system weren’t then able to bring them over. It was noted to be a patch 1.3.2. Now those can be carried over to the Switch game.

Insomniac Actually Studied Real Lizards to Create the Lizard in Spider-Man 2

6 months 2 weeks ago

Insomniac Games took its Spider-Man 2 research so seriously even Norman Osborn would be impressed, having actually studied real lizards before creating the baddie for the upcoming sequel.

Revealed in a PlayStation Blog post, Insomniac senior art director Jacinda Chew revealed the team wanted to make every detail of Lizard accurate to his real-life counterparts. Ironically, however, Insomniac found an exact replication (reptile-ication) wouldn't quite work. Why? Not enough slime.

"We looked at a lot of lizard skin for research," Chew said. "The thing about lizards in real life, their skin’s actually really dry. Most people who looked at our Lizard kept initially saying: ‘He’s not slimy enough.’ But I think it’s a nod to what people expect a lizard to look like. He’s got that lizard skin, but it’s actually much shinier than what you’d see on a real lizard.

Image%20credit%3A%20PlayStation%20Blog

"We gave him spikes, too. For design references, I tried to look at real-life lizards that looked a bit more prehistoric, because some lizards can look kind of soft and cute. I was looking at spikier, more snake-like, more aggressive references. We also wanted eyes that look more like animal eyes. If you look at cats, their pupils grow at night.

Should you buy the PlayStation 5 Slim?

6 months 2 weeks ago

This week on the Eurogamer Newscast, we discuss Sony's newly-announced PlayStation 5 "Slim", which is set to launch in the US next month.

Repeatedly leaked, the PS5 Slim's existence was not too much of a surprise, though word that its digital version would cost more in the US and that you now need to splash out £25 to stand the console upright still managed to raise some eyebrows.

Rather than a proper mid-gen refresh, the Slim is more of a redesign - with no real incentive for existing PS5 owners to upgrade. Still, is a good resdesign? Does it position the console's digital edition as the PS5's main version? And most importantly, is standing your console vertical better? Joining me this week are Eurogamer's Ed Nightingale, Victoria Kennedy and Liv Ngan.

How to Play the Street Fighter Games in Chronological Order

6 months 2 weeks ago

It might not have created the genre, but fighting games wouldn’t be as important and popular as they are today without Street Fighter. This is a series that introduced the idea of combos, a six-button layout, and motion inputs for special moves. It also helped build a competitive scene for fighting games, it made the arcade scene rise in the 90s, and it revitalized the genre in the era of online play.

With each main entry, Street Fighter tried to create something new or focus in a new direction that would make other iconic fighting game franchises, such as Mortal Kombat or The King of Fighters, pay attention. However, the series surpassed its walls and became a cultural phenomenon, with its well-known roster appearing in different types of media and even games outside of the fights, like Fortnite.

In this article, you’ll find a chronology of the series if you’re interested in playing each entry from the start and following its intricate story.

According to the announcement post from the Tales series social media account, each of the plushies contain a flexible skeleton inside. This allows someone to put them in various poses. They’re also approximately ten inches tall while in the sitting position.

The Forza Community Cannot Decide if it Loves or Hates Motorsport

6 months 2 weeks ago

I am absolutely loving Forza Motorsport. I have been working my way toward getting all the achievements and testing it out to see how different it is from Gran Turismo 7, which I played a decent amount last year and in the run-up to Forza Motorsport’s launch. I’ll say it right now – I freaking love Forza. But I am just a novice in the sim racing community. I’m proud of my one-minute 39-second lap on Maple Valley, even though it’s nowhere close to what the pros are clocking, but I have the sim racing bug and I cannot stop playing.

However, one thing I’ve noticed is that the community is divided on its opinion of the game. One glance at Twitter (sorry, X) and you’ll either find videos and posts from fans talking about how Forza Motorsport is either a terrible game, or the best thing since sliced bread. More than one Reddit user asked if they were playing a different game from everyone else.

One criticism that frequently appears in the sim racing community is about the default controls, which I agree are frankly bizarre. There’s simply not enough nuance – which is crucial for a game like Forza – and almost every creator I’ve watched agrees that the default option is severely lacking.
