FFXVI Arcade Mode Update

Square Enix released a notice that a Final Fantasy XVI arcade mode update will appear and change the way scores will be counted. The update is scheduled to arrive fon December 8, 2023, after which the old leaderboard will unavailable.

The arcade mode in FFXVI allows players who wish to engage more with its combat system to revisit certain dungeons and fights at a fixed level. Upon completion, players earn a score based on their performance, including combo length and extra challenges completed. That can then be uploaded to an online scoreboard. After this update, however, the method for calculating these scores will change. A new leaderboard will be used to record scores under the new system. The notice does not elaborate on what exactly the changes to scoring will be, so players will have to experiment to find the best ways to rack up their scores once the update is out.

FFXVI won big at the Playstation Partner Awards for Japan and Asia in 2023, netting both the User's Choice and Grand Award based on user votes and sales performance respectively. Voice actor Yuuya Uchida, who voices Clive in the Japanese version of the game, also released a tweet possibly hinting at an announcement date for the game's upcoming DLC.

Final Fantasy XVI is available now on the Playstation 5, with the update to Arcade Mode scoring arriving on December 8, 2023. A PC port is also currently in development.
