An enhanced version of the arcade classic flight combat game G-LOC Air Battle is coming to Switch in the Sega Ages collection on April 30, 2020, and you should really give it a try.

Originally released in 1990, G-LOC Air Battle puts you in the cockpit of experimental aircraft as you take on full squadrons of enemy pilots on dangerous timed missions. The game was also designed by legendary designer Yu Suzuki, the visionary director behind game series like Virtua Fighter and Shenmue.

The enhanced version comes packed with new features like an online leaderboard, moving screen options like the original hydraulic-powered arcade cabinet, multiple difficulty options, and an AGES mode that adds more enemies, more missiles, and a more powerful lock-on system.

G-LOC Air Battle joins Shinobi, Sonic the Hedgehog, Phantasy Star, in the Sega Ages collection on Switch, faithful ports on classic Sega titles with a few new tweaks here and there. G-LOC is the newest game to join the lineup, and is the only new addition at the moment.

Free Play Days on Xbox Offers F1 2019 and Warhammer: Chaosbane

Xbox’s Free Play Days is back this weekend with two pretty extreme offerings. There’s either some of the fastest driving in the world, or some dungeon crawling set in the Warhammer universe. However, this isn’t the power armor and space version of Warhammer, no this is dirty and grotesque.

F1 2019 is the official game of the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship. For those a little unsure what qualifies as Formula One, those long, open-wheel vehicles that are usually the fastest vehicles in the Forza games are F1.

Race head to head against some of the other fastest cars in racing. This is the best time to experience this game as F1 2020 was just revealed today. If you enjoy the game, you can purchase it at a discounted price during the weekend for $15.00 for the standard edition and $17.50 for the “Legends Edition“. Take a spin this weekend as Free Play Days brings the speed and the thrills.

Gamescom 2020 Officially Confirmed Digital-Only Due to Coronavirus Pandemic

Following yesterday’s mention that a nationwide ban of large events from German authorities could affect planning for Gamescom 2020, the organizers of the event officially confirmed that this year it’ll take place only in digital form.

While gamers won’t be able to meet in person at the traditional Koelnmesse venue in Cologne, we hear that the organization is “working intensively on the expansion” of its digital offering and on “introducing additional modules.”

Koelnmesse GmbH managing director Oliver Frese accompanied the press release with a comment.

“As the organizer, this decision is as painful for us as for the half million gamescom fans who come to Cologne every year to celebrate games together. However, we are looking forward to the digital gamescom 2020.”

We also get a second comment from Felix Falk, managing director of game, which is the association of the German gaming industry.

“Even though we unfortunately will not be able to come together with the games community and industry on site in Cologne this year, we’ll still celebrate the latest games with each other digitally at the end of August. That is why we are working at full speed together with our partners on the further development of gamescom: Opening Night Live and gamescom now, and will be presenting new and exciting digital formats. Our goal is clear: this year, gamescom will once again be ‘The Heart of Gaming’ for millions of fans throughout the world.”

Tickets have been on sale online for a while, but they will be refunded for those who already made the purchase.

Ranking the Streets of Rage Characters: the Guys, the Girl & the Disturbingly Buff Old Man

Back in the 90s, we had an embarrassment of riches in the beat-em-up genre, and the Streets of Rage trilogy was one of the absolute highlights for Sega fanatics.

With their addictive gameplay, catchy soundtracks, and suspicious roasted turkeys found under garbage cans, many hours were sunk into the adventures of Axel, Blaze and company. Half of those hours were probably spent intentionally hurling a knife at your friend’s head or flinging them into a pit, because being a jerk is somehow incredibly gratifying.

At long last, those days are almost upon us again, with Streets of Rage 4 poised to release soon on PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One. It introduces advanced mechanics such as juggling (enemies, not billiard balls), as well as new kids on the block, Cherry and Floyd.

They’ve certainly got a lot to live up to, because the series has seen its fair share of awesome characters for us to take control of. Today, we’re throwing down the gauntlet, pitting them against one another to determine once and for all who’s the very best out there… on the…

Streets of Rage. Cue title screen!

Low-key though, the real winner is the police officer who rolls out in his squad car whenever you use the special attack button. The way he’s able to fire off a blast of napalm without ever hitting the good guys is a damned art form.

Star Wars Episode 1: Racer Will Release Next Month on PS4 & Switch

Aspyr, the folks working on the updated version of fan-favorite Nintendo 64 game: Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, announced today that the title will be off to the races on May 12 for both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch for $14.99.

Back in the day, the first movie in the prequel trilogy of Star Wars wasn’t that highly regarded among most critics or fans, with the podracing being mocked by many. However, the podracing tie-in game was a different story, and many fans have fond memories of it.

To be frank, it still feels a bit random that this is a thing, but hey I’m happy for whoever is happy. I have to imagine that a combination of Star Wars Episode 1: Racer being considered a cult classic by many, and the fact the prequel films are just a huge lovable meme now at this point in 2020, contributed at least a little in the decision to green light this updated version.

Here are some features that fans can expect via Aspyr:

  • Twenty-five (25) playable racers including Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba, and Ratts Tyerell
  • Race tracks spanning eight unique worlds including Tatooine, Baroonda, and Malastare
  • Players can work with pit droids to upgrade podracers for higher top speeds and acceleration
  • Discover short-cuts and secrets to master lap times
  • Play single player campaigns or multiplayer via split-screen

Don’t pick up the game expecting it to be a massive gorgeous remake, it’s still pretty much a Nintendo 64 game, albeit with some smoother visuals and updated controls.

If you had fun playing it back in the day though, this latest version might be worth a look when it releases in a little less than a month.

New Borderlands 3 Events Provide More Loot and Cash for a Limited Time

Gearbox has been pumping out Borderlands 3 hotfixes weekly for a while now, and this latest update is adding two new mini-events to the game. All players will get the chance to earn more in-game loot and cash once the hotfix goes live today.

The game will be updated on all platforms by 12:00PM PST. The Rare Chest Riches and Loot Monster Mayhem events from the last Borderlands 3 hotfix are coming to an end. Since these events seem to be never-ending, two more are coming to fill the void.

Mr. Torgue’s Slaughter Onslaught and Making It Rain are the new ones, and they’ll be live until Apr. 23. So, presumably, two more events will begin in just a week as the cycle continues. Unlike the last two hotfixes though, Moze won’t be getting any buffs this time.

Mr. Torgue’s Slaughter Onslaught increases the number of dedicated loot drops from the Slaughter bosses, while Making It Rain increases the cash drops for regular, Anointed, and Badass enemies.

This hotfix is also preparing the game for its next major update, which is bringing big changes to the Mayhem system.

It’s a good week to grind out those Slaughter missions since these events will help you fill your backpacks in more ways than one.

Destiny 2’s Guardian Games Revealed Alongside New Exotic Weapon

Bungie today has released new details and screenshots for the upcoming seasonal event headed to Destiny 2 next week: the Guardian Games. Alongside new information on the event, they also formally unveiled the new exotic machine gun, Heir Apparent, which has been technically kept under wraps, but was datamined weeks ago.

The Guardian Games will start up in Destiny 2 next Tuesday on April 21 and will run until May 11. The loop appears to be a set of daily class challenges offered by both Zavala and our girl Eva Levante who will be appearing once again in the tower.

The daily challenges appear to reward points, and the class that scores the most points presumably will win. The winning class will get a statue honoring the victory for the rest of the year.

It’s unclear right now if there’s any system in place to balance out the disparity in class numbers or if it’s just as simple as pure quantity in points. At the time of this posting, the URL to the guide that Bungie links appeared to be down or is not yet set up.

THQ Nordic has announced the release date for SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, with it coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on June 23.

A release date was seemingly leaked by Nintendo in a release schedule earlier in the year, but it seems like a May date was false.

The date was revealed in a tweet from THQ Nordic and it said that you’re able to preorder the PC and Xbox One versions now, with you being able to do so for PS4 and Switch copies at a later date. We’ll be sure to update you here once you’re able to.

If you weren’t already aware, Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is a remastered version of the 2003 game that released on PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, and PC.

It will feature content that was cut from the original version of the game, significantly upgraded visuals, and a brand new multiplayer mode that’s will be a horde more type experience for two players and can be played locally or online.

As the game’s page on THQ Nordic’s website reads, “The cult classic is back, faithfully remade in spongetastic splendor! Play as SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy and show the evil Plankton that crime pays even less than Mr. Krabs.” Below is the full list of new features in the remake, also via the game’s official description.

NieR Series Getting New 10-Hour Livestream Next Week

Square Enix announced another massive livestream dedicated to the NieR series which will happen next week.

The broadcast will last a whopping ten hours and go live on April 22 at 8:00 PM Japan time on Nico Nico to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the launch of the original NieR: Replicant.

During the stream creator Yoko Taro and producer Yosuke Saito will talk about what they didn’t have time for in the broadcast last month that saw the announcement of NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and NieR Re[in]carnation for iOS and Android.

The schedule includes:

  • NieR timeline review
  • Congratulation messages
  • Impromptu weapon story creation
  • Looking back at the NieR Series trailers
  • Auduence presents etc…

Not only Yoko Taro will improvise the creation of weapon stories (we don’t know whether it’s one or more, as Japanese doesn’t make a difference between plural and singular), but together with Saito-san he will present the Weapon stories sent in by the audience with this form. This feature is available only for Nico Nico premium members.

It’ll be interesting to see if Square Enix has more in store for the NieR series, especially considering that last month’s livestream already came with plenty of news. Of course, you can expect to read any news provided here on Twinfinite.

Final Fantasy VII Remake’s Hard Mode Is Sometimes Fun, Sometimes Soul-Destroying

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake has been out for almost a week now, and while it certainly has its drawbacks, for the most part it’s definitely lived up to our expectations as a remake of one of the most beloved video games in the world. The story still holds up, the characters are all still fun and goofy, and the combat has been updated for a modern audience.

After beating the story of Final Fantasy VII Remake, you unlock a new Hard Mode difficulty setting that makes the game much more challenging than before. Enemies are tougher, but the major change that really makes Hard Mode, well, hard, is that you can no longer use items in and out of combat, and you can only heal up at benches and rest points.

First up, the combat difficulty gets turned up a notch. You won’t notice it in the first couple of chapters, as you’re probably pretty high leveled for the Scorpion Sentinel and the Shinra soldiers that come after. But once you start hitting up the side quests at the Sector 7 slums, that’s when things start to get pretty crazy.

In a side quest that seemed so trivial on Normal difficulty, I ended up spending a little under an hour banging my head against the wall, trying to figure out enemy patterns and the best Materia combination for that particular fight.

Turns out going up against a group of Doomrats on Hard Mode is a lot tougher than you might think.

The Last of Us Part II Was a Jeopardy Question This Week

Here’s how The Last of Us Part II was described in the question from the host: “The long-awaited upcoming sequel to this PlayStation game revisits Ellie and Joel after a cross-country trek filled with zombies.”

A player named Xiaoke ended up gaining $2000 for answering the question and she also answered another question correctly that asked her to identify Qbert, the 80s arcade game.

Naughty Dog even ended up tweeting out the Jeopardy question and thanked the show for featuring its game in the semi-finals.

Trios Mode Returning to Warzone Just a Few Days After Being Replaced

The trios battle royale mode, which Warzone was launched with, has been brought back after it was replaced earlier in the week.

In another switch up of the free-to-play battle royale’s playlist, Infinity Ward added Scopes and Scatter Guns as the trios focused mode and it only allows you to pick up the game’s variety of shotguns and snipers. You’re also not able to call in loadout drops from Buy Stations, making sure players stick to the limited weapon set.

However, while it was nice to have something a bit different in Warzone, a lot of players were frustrated that is was added in place of standard trios, limiting the basic battle royale action to just solos and quads.

Teams of two are able to hold their own in trios, but it’s too difficult to compete in quads without a larger squad. Therefore, removing standard trios limited players without the right number of friends at all times from playing as they were before.

Due to fan outcry, standard trios is coming back to Warzone. Various Reddit threads and Twitter posts were made calling on Infinity War to bring it back and they released the following tweet.

Shoujo Jigoku no Doku Musume for PS4 & Switch Gets New Screenshots & Art Showing Characters & More

Today Nippon Ichi Software released a new gallery of screenshots and artwork of the upcoming action-JRPG Shoujo Jigoku no Doku Musume.

First of all, we get to see a few characters including the hero himself and the titular “Poison Girl” who accompanies him.

Next is a couple of rival/allies, nicknamed “Girl in the Mourning Dress” and “White Poison Girl.”

Mitogawa Dorami is a demon lady who runs a souvenir shop in hell, while “A Mysterious Woman Met in Hell” (That’s how she’s called) is a woman dressed in a men’s suit who appears to know both the protagonist and the Poison Girl and has a lot of interesting things to say.

Lastly, the “Black Poison Girl” (Yes, I know, this is getting confusing) is another girl that the protagonist faces in his quest. Usually, poison girls are “delusionals” (basically demons) who become one with a living person, but she doesn’t seem to have a partner. She talks in Kyoto dialect and she behaves in a slightly creepy way.

Once the protagonist successfully purifies one of the girls’ poison swamps he can receive a precious sticker. It’s said that five of those allow going to heaven.

When we try to purify the poison swamps we can meet the related girl’s spiritual manifestation, who can provide hints on how to go about cleansing the place.

Final Fantasy XIV Brings Us Back in Time With the Original Letters from the Producer Live

With many Final Fantasy XIV players staying at home due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Square Enix has found a creative way to provide some additional entertainment.

Once upon a time (in 2010), Square Enix launched the original Final Fantasy XIV. Unfortunately, it proved to be pretty much a disaster, and the publisher called a fresh face to try to steer the ship in the right direction.

That fresh face was Naoki Yoshida, who took the reins of the game as producer and director. I still remember that moment and having to franticly google Yoshida-san’s name to find out who he was.

Yoshida-san made many changes, and one of the most visible was the launch of the “Letter from the Producer Live” broadcasts in 2011 in order to establish a direct channel of communication with the audience.

That was a bold new move back then for Square Enix, which used to be much less open and straightforward in its communication. That approach was then applied successfully to other games like Final Fantasy XV.

Many of today’s Final Fantasy XIV players are used to the Letters from the Producer Live, which have continued after the rerelease of the game as “A Realm Reborn” and have recently reached the 57th installment.

Yet, it’s very likely that most current players have never seen the original broadcasts starring a much younger Yoshida-san and global community producer Toshio Murouchi (whose title was a lot shorter back then), alongside guest appearances by former Square Enix president and CEO Yoichi Wada.

Back then, having the CEO of the company appear in this kind of broadcast was nearly unthinkable for Square Enix, but Wada-san was a strong supporter of the rebuilding of Final Fantasy XIV during a difficult time in which some even doubted the survival of the franchise as a whole.

Cyberpunk 2077 Introduces Arasaka Corporation

CD Projekt RED has been introducing the gangs and organizations of Cyberpunk 2077, and today they revealed another.

The reveal was made on Twitter and it showcases Arasaka, a corporation known for providing security services, banking, and legal services.

They also produce weapons and vehicles common among police and security forces.

Arasaka actually isn’t new to Cyberpunk 2077, and it’s a name likely known to most fans of the setting all the way to the original 2013 setting. It’s nice to see such an iconic name return in 2077.

Pokemon Go Incense Day Event Can Be Played From Home This Weekend

Earlier today we learned about the Remote Raid Pass and how it will enable Pokemon GO players to raid from home. But, Niantic apparently wasn’t done with their announcements. This weekend, Pokemon GO will play host to the first Incense Day.

This event will be a similar format to the monthly Community Days, but the main idea is to keep people in their homes. Since sitting in your home catching the same Pokemon repeatedly can get a bit boring, each hour the creatures that appear will change.

Time FramePokemon Type
11 a.m. to 12 p.m.Water
12 p.m. to 1 p.m.Fire
1 p.m. to 2 p.m.Grass
2 p.m. to 3 p.m.Psychic
3 p.m. to 4 p.m.Bug
4 p.m. to 5 p.m.Ground

On top of that, they also mentioned uncommon Pokemon that could possibly appear for each hour-long section of the event. These mons are Clamperl, Litwick, Ferroseed, Gothita, Joltik and Drilbur.

Final Fantasy XIV Reveals First Look at Ishgard Housing

The Ishgardian restoration has been in full swing on Final Fantasy XIV for a while, and a few servers have reached an interesting stage.

Japanese players on servers Tonberry, Chocobo, Shinryu, and Ixion have managed to push the restoration past stage 31, causing the reveal of the first in-game models of Ishgardian houses.

Developers have been remarkably coy about confirming that the Ishgardian Restoration will indeed result into the opening of the local housing wards (despite the fact that it has been quite obvious for a while), and Director Naoki Yoshida deftly dodged the question in our latest interview.

Yet, the houses are now visible to everyone who has access to the Firmament in one of the servers mentioned above.

Below you can see what appear to be Cottage and House-sized abodes, which are the smallest and medium-size houses. At least on Chocobo (which is where the screenshots have been taken), the bigger Mansion-size building has not been revealed yet on stage 32. Unfortunately, I don’t have a character on Tonberry, which currently leads the restoration on stage 34. Tonberry is closed to new characters, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer.

Animal Crossing Player Recreates First Aid Scene From The Office

Yes, it’s time for another excellent and awesome Animal Crossing creation in New Horizons. This time, a Reddit user named bunbaoluu has recreated yet another iconic scene from the hit television sitcom, The Office.

We reported on their other recreation about two weeks ago, which was an Animal Crossing version of the Finer Things Club scene from the US version of The Office.

This time around, they’ve copied the famous first aid scene form the show, which has Michael attempting to perform CPR on a dummy in front of his employees at Dunder Mifflin.

They’ve used Harvey’s island to get the perfect villagers to make up the scene and the end result is brilliant:

Sonic the Hedgehog SXSW Announcements Delayed Indefinitely

In an uncharacteristic move for the Blue Blur, Sonic the Hedgehog’s going to be slowing it down a bit in the coming months. Earlier in the year, Texas-based entertainment festival SXSW 2020 was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar cancellations have hit plenty of other conventions in recent months, including the historic cancellation of E3 2020.

The cancellation meant that SEGA’s planned Sonic the Hedgehog panel would no longer have a venue at which to present it’s announcements. At the time, the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account made an announcement that the Sonic panel would be delayed until April, and that it would be presented in an all-new format.

They did not yet announce how such plans have been affected and whether the event will be postponed or canceled, but they did reiterate the promise that the event will “definitely take place digitally” at the very least.

You can see the tweet below.

Of course, we’ll keep you posted as soon as the organizers of the event make a detailed announcement, which should come “shortly.”

New Yo-Kai Watch Game Yo-Kai Academy Y for PS4 and Nintendo Switch Gets New Screenshots on Famitsu

Today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu included an article on the upcoming Yo-Kai Watch Game Yo-Kai Academy Y.

We get to take a look at various situations that will happen in the school that can be freely roamed. For instance, we may witness a fight and decide whether to help or not. Our decisions and the places we visit will influence our school life.

The school is pretty much like a giant theme park with a variety of facilities, including a pool, a gym, and more.

The school is also being affected by a series of strange events, and it’ll be our task to investigate them and solve the mystery.

The hero Junpei can insert a medal holding the power of a Yo-kai in his YSP Watch, activating powers comparable to what you can see in anime. He can pretty much transform into a hybrid hero with the strength of a Yo-kai.

That being said, unlike most superheroes, his identity is no secret. Defeating enemies in a cool way in front of other students will prompt them to like him. It’s actually important to attract an audience.

You can check out the screenshots below.

Fairy Tail JRPG for PS4, Switch, and PC Reveals Guest Characters with New Screenshots on Famitsu

Today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu included a spread on the upcoming JRPG Fairy Tail by Atelier developer Gust.

The article showcases guest characters from other guilds that can join your party to save the day. They will act automatically and cannot be controlled directly by the player.

We see Ultear Milkovich from Crime Sorcière, Lyon Vastia from Lamia Scale, Flare Corona from Raven Tail, and Minerva Orland from Sabertooth.

We also see the ability to challenge a friend. If you win, you’ll receive a reward depending on the character you defeat.

Last, but not least, the screenshots showcase how you can increase your guild rank by fulfilling requests. Not only this increases the variety of requests you’ll receive, but also the types of magic you can use.

The interior of the guild will also become more luxurious, with shops selling more tools and items. The same will go for the bar that will sell more drinks with a variety of effects.

You can see the images below.

Cooking Mama IP Owner Threatens Legal Action Over Cookstar Release

Cooking Mama’s creator and intellectual property owner, Office Create, have released a statement regarding the odd situation surrounding the release and Nintendo eShop listing for the Cooking Mama: Cookstar.

In that statement, they state that the publisher Planet Entertainment breached the terms of their contract when they went ahead with the launch after the title didn’t follow the quality standards expected from them.

Also, they mention the recently announced PlayStation 4 launch in Europe, and that they have only authorized Planet Entertainment for a Nintendo Switch release, making this another breach in their contract according to Office Create.

Planet Entertainment’s rights to the IP have been terminated, with Office Create stating that:

On March 30, 2020 Office Create notified Planet of its immediate termination of the license due to Planet’s intentional material breach of the license contract. Despite such notice, Planet continues to advertise and sell the unauthorized version of Cooking Mama: Cookstar on its website in willful violation of Office Create’s rights.

This statement follows a tumultuous launch that included accusations of bitcoin mining and overheating issues. Neither of these claims have been substantiated, but it’s safe to say the launch could have gone smoother to say the least as fans questioned why the release was pulled from digital storefronts.
