Borderlands 3 Revamps Mayhem Mode This Week in Mayhem 2.0 Update

After putting out new hotfixes for weeks, Gearbox is finally applying some major changes to Borderlands 3’s Mayhem Mode in a Mayhem 2.0 update. This major update will be going live this Thursday, Apr. 23.

For those who don’t know, Mayhem Mode unlocks once you’ve completed the main story. It provides the option to increase the game’s level of difficulty in stages as you grind to max level, or look for better loot.

Borderlands 3’s Mayhem 2.0 update is improving that feature in various ways. First and foremost, players no longer have to go all the way back to Sanctuary to change the Mayhem level. Thank goodness. Mayhem levels can now be changed at will from your ECHO Device menu.

The host chooses the Mayhem level for multiplayer sessions, but if you’re matchmaking, you’ll be teamed up with players on a similar difficulty level.

For the uninitiated, Mayhem Mode also adds modifiers to the game on top of more difficult enemies. The Mayhem 2.0 update is bringing 25 new modifiers to Borderlands 3, each categorized as Easy, Medium, Hard, or Very Hard.

These modifiers are chosen at random, but modifier frequency and difficulty ratings remain the same through each Mayhem level. This Borderlands 3 Mayhem 2.0 table from the website should help clear that up:

People Are Recreating Album Covers With Animal Crossing’s KK Slider

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you must work your way to make your deserted island the most inviting island there is by sprucing up the place with villagers, furniture, flowers, and other homely additions. Once you get to a high enough island rating from Isabelle, you can watch the credits roll and enjoy a wonderful concert put on by none other KK Slider, the hippie dog musician.

You can collect his music albums in the game too and they feature some awesome art that stars the chill, musically-inclined pup. Most Animal Crossing fans absolutely adore this character and are now creating their own versions of popular album covers but replaced with KK Slider.

Needless to say, the creations are remarkably well done! You can check out some of the best ones I found on Twitter down below. Let us know which one is your favorite by shouting out in the comments section!

It’s Nice When FFXIV Decides to Take It Easy on You

Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG, which means that you can definitely expect an element of grinding in basically every aspect of the game. Past expansions have introduced Relic Weapons, which are some of the most powerful weapons you can get in the game for your respective jobs. And, yep you guessed it, there’s always some sort of insane, tedious grind involved. This time, though, FFXIV isn’t too demanding of your time. And it’s nice.

Patch 5.25 dropped for FFXIV in the last couple of weeks, introducing the first chapter of a new quest line called Save the Queen. By completing this first chapter, players would be able to unlock a forge where they could gather materials to craft a Resistance weapon — basically the new fancy term for this expansion‘s Relic Weapons.

When I heard about the patch drop, I was apprehensive. I instantly started getting flashbacks to the Relic Weapons of the Stormblood expansion, when Square Enix introduced Eureka and forced players to grind there for literal years. Okay not literal years, but it might as well have been.

Eureka was a pretty divisive aspect of the game, to say the least. It was meant to be a throwback to the gameplay loop of FFXI, but because it was so at odds with FFXIV’s current model, it ended up being quite a jarring process to get into. The grind felt unbearably tedious especially if you weren’t playing the new content right when it dropped, and if you wanted to catch up on your own, Eureka didn’t make it easy for you to do a lot of the content solo.

More Seasonal Events and Characters Are Coming in a Free Update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If you’ve been running out of things to do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’ll be glad to know that Nintendo has released a trailer outlining information about a free update that will be adding plenty of events over the next few months.

The first part of the update includes three additions to the game: two new visiting characters and an expansion to the museum.

Leif, the gardening sloth, will begin arriving on islands by setting up his shop outside of the Town Hall building, similar to how Label and Kicks set up their shop to sell items. Players will be able to buy flower seeds and various bushes, such as azalea and tea-olive shrubs, that can be planted around the island.

Redd, the cunning fox, will begin appearing by boat on the northern beaches on islands. When players board his boat, they will be able to take part in Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler to buy artwork and furniture from him. In previous games, there was a chance Redd could sell counterfeit artwork, so be sure to examine what you buy carefully.

The museum will receive an expansion, adding a section for artwork and sculptures. It is likely that Blathers, the museum curator, will accept donations of the artwork bought from Redd, as long as it is genuine.

The second part of the update includes four new events, beginning this week and lasting through the end of June.

From April 23 through May 4, Nature Day will be celebrated in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Players can complete nature-related activities to earn Nook Miles.

From May 1 through May 7, islands will be celebrating May Day. For a limited time, players can go on special May Day island tours for a chance to score rare items and meet new characters. In the trailer, the special character Rover is seen in the background of one of these tours.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Sold 3.5 Million Copies in 3 Days

How Selling My Animal Crossing Villager On the Black Market Made Me a Millionaire

Animal Crossing New Horizons is often described as being a chill, carefree game with a wholesome community and very little stress overall. You play as a human living day to day life on a deserted island with a group of animal friends, so it must all be cute and innocent, right?

Let me be the one to inform you: that’s not the case at all. There’s a secret dark side of Animal Crossing that not every fan sees.

In the depths of the game’s fandom, you can find a portion of the New Horizons community involved in black market schemes. Instead of watering their flowers and catching bugs as any normal person would, these players are trading items, DIY recipes, and… villagers.

Yes, there is an underground market for buying and selling the animal villagers that people have living on their islands. In the darkest corners of the internet, websites like Nookazon and r/AdoptMyVillager on Reddit exist with the sole purpose of hosting these unscrupulous transactions.

For the uninitiated, Nookazon allows you to sort through listings for items or villagers that people have for sale and lets you post your own for others to make offers on. Reddit’s r/AdoptMyVillager is similar, but it’s specifically intended for exchanging bells for a villager who is about to move away from a person’s island.

System Shock 3 Dev Assures Fans the Studio Is Still Alive, Teases New Concept

Despite reports earlier this year suggesting layoffs at Otherside Entertainment had all but canceled System Shock 3, it sounds as though the studio is still clinging on.

As spotted by VGC earlier this week, VP of marketing and business development Walter Somol provided a brief update over on Otherside’s forums, teasing a new concept in the process:

“We’re still here. We’re all working remotely right now, probably like most of you. Our new concept is coming along nicely and we are really excited about it. We have cool and we think distinctive art style for it and we have that and gameplay coming together in UE4. I know it’s a tease, but I just can’t really say anything about it at this point.”

It’s unclear as to whether Somol is referring to a new concept for System Shock 3 or a new game entirely. We know that Starbreeze, the game’s previous publisher, sold the rights for System Shock 3 back to Otherside following its own financial battles, so the door is certainly open.

Still, it seems rather unlikely. There’s been absolutely no word on System Shock 3 in over three months, a radio silence which has been echoed by director Warren Spector for the same period of time as well.

Death Stranding PC Release Delayed to July

Death Stranding’s PC release has been delayed by just over a month, pushed back from its original June 2 date to July 14.

Kojima Productions’ Twitter account made the announcement earlier today, citing difficulties with work-from-home logistics as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PC version of Death Stranding features a number of high-performance optimizations over the PS4 original, including high frame-rate support and ultra-wide monitor compatibility. The PC version will also feature a photo mode, which came to PS4 earlier this month with Update 1.12.

Today’s news shouldn’t come as too much of a shock; Kojima Productions is one of many developers and publishers to delay a game or update in the wake of the pandemic.

Azur Lane: Crosswave Gets New Video Showing Formidable DLC and Her Suppor Shipgirls

Today Compile Heart released a new gameplay video of its shipgirl-focused game Azur Lane: Crosswave focusing on the DLC.

To be precise, it showcases the second DLC that will be released in Japan on April 27, focusing on Formidable.

The video focuses on the story part of the DLC, which is narrated in the usual visual novel-like fashion. We get to see the protagonist Formidable and the three support/secretary shipgirls that will be included in the package, Zara, Warspite, and Neptune.

It’s worth mentioning that Idea Factory International has not announced any release date for the DLC in the west or for the PC version. We inquired with them about it a few days ago, and they mentioned that for the moment they have no update on this.

Final Major Update for Super Mario Maker 2 Adds World Maker

Nintendo of America has announced that Super Mario Maker 2 will be receiving its final major update later this week, and it’s a big one.

The most notable part of the update will add a highly requested feature to the game: a world maker. Players will be able to add up to 40 of their created courses into a customizable world.

This will give players the liberty of creating their very own Mario game by building structures like bridges, hills, and warp pipes to the map. It looks like there will be plenty of customization since players will have control of details down to each level’s icon.

In addition to the world maker feature, this final content update will include a large variety of new power-ups and enemies. Some included are the Super Mario Bros 2 mushroom, frog suit, power balloon, super acorn, and boomerang flower.

In the 3D World game mode, there will be new hat items such as the cannon box, propeller box, red POW box, Goomba mask, and Bullet Bill mask.

Koopalings will be added as bosses across various game modes as well, allowing creators to have more choices for who players will face in their courses.

Earlier this year, Super Mario Maker 2 reached the milestone of 10 million playable courses. With all of the new features in this upcoming update, there will be even more ways for players to create unique and fun courses.

This final major content update to Super Mario Maker 2 will be available for free and will arrive on April 22. For full details and to see the world maker in action, you can watch the trailer below.

The Batman Film Reportedly Delayed to October 2021 Due to COVID-19

A report from IGN today claims that Warner Bros. has delayed its anticipated The Batman film until next year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In what is presumably a tentative new release date, the film is now slated for an October 2021 release, pushed back from the original date of June 25.

The news isn’t all that surprising given that the film’s production, like every in Hollywood, is on hiatus until further notice.

The Batman is essentially a soft reboot of the Dark Knight saga, focusing on a younger Bruce Wayne. The Batman was originally set to star Ben Affleck, who also co-wrote the film’s script, but has since stepped away from the production.

Other upcoming DC movie The Flash, Shazam 2, and David Chase’s Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark have also been given new release dates pushed back from their original slots.

The Flash has shifted from an Aug. 1, 2022 release to June 2, 2022; Shazam 2 is postponed from April 1, 2022 to Nov. 4, 2022, while the Many Saints of Newark from Sept. 25, 2020 to March 12, 2021.

In related recent The Batman news, a Tweet from director Matt Reeves showcased the new Batmobile. It looks to be combining different features from older versions of the vehicle; importantly, it’s actually a car and not a tank this time.

Stranded Deep to Launch on PS4 Tomorrow With New Content

Beam Team’s survival game Stranded Deep will launch on PS4 tomorrow. The developer took to the PlayStation Blog earlier today to make the announcement, which will also mark the first time one of its games has been available on a console.

Beam Team co-founder Sam Edward’s made special mention of the “surreal” moment when he and the team picked up the PS4 controller to play the game on a console for the first time.

“This is our passion project and first console game finally coming to life,” Edwards said. “We’ve been working on this game for over five years now, a couple of guys out of Brisbane, Australia, that had jobs in other industries before, but we loved games and we wanted to build something we thought would be fun and people would like to play.”

Players who purchase Stranded Deep on PS4 will be among the first to experience a new game content that allows them to actually escape the island if they’re able to survive its many perils.

But that doesn’t sound as though it’s an easy feat. Indeed, the beauty of Stranded Deep’s exotic pacific island location is only a facade; all sorts of dangerous creatures on both land and sea pose a threat, as do the ever-changing elements and lack of food and drink.

Players will have to overcome the odds by crafting tools, unlocking skills, building vehicles, and farming resources.

Edit: This article originally stated a co-operative mode was available on PS4, but this is in fact limited to the PC version for the time being.

This just needs some clarification that co-op is not on console but can be available on the PC version via Steam remote play.

You can check out some screenshots of the game below:

Xbox One Game – Doom (2016)

Xbox Games with Gold Predictions

bethesda

In a week or so we should get the offical list of what free Games with Gold titles will be included for the upcoming month of May 2020. But we broke out our crystal ball for some Xbox Games with Gold predictions in the meantime.

If you missed the reveals for the current month of April, Project Cars 2 will be free to download for Xbox Live members for the entire month, Knights of Pen and Paper Bundle between April 16 to May 15, Fable Anniversary from April 1-15, and finally Toybox Turbos from April 16-30.

Ever since 2014, Microsoft has always coupled one Xbox One title with one Xbox 360 title together for Games with Gold releases. For next month we suspect that larger Xbox One game to be Doom (2016).

Below’s Explore Mode Lets You Actually Enjoy the Game at Your Own Pace

Following its reveal all the way back at E3 2013, I was excited to try out Capybara’s Below when it launched on PC and Xbox One back in December 2018.

To make it even better, it was free for Game Pass subscribers from the day it released, so I jumped in to give it a try, expecting to love it.

I didn’t though.

It wasn’t because of its overall difficulty, the way it refuses to explain anything you see or do as you descend into the mountain’s depths, nor was it due to the unrelenting darkness of the world.

Instead, it was the way that a few of the game’s mechanics seemed to have no purpose other than to annoy players under the guise of difficulty and complexity.

Hidden insta-death spikes, hunger and thirst meters to keep track of, and the lack of a save system of any kind seemed like unnecessary features that only served to distract players from the atmospheric world and exploration-led progression that were the meat of Below.

Managing hunger and thirst in survival games can be frustrating at the best of times, with you having to juggle and survive in-game threats at the same time as ones that just manifest as time passes.

With it being so easy to get lost in Below’s mysterious dungeons, the combat being tricky, and you having to start again when you die, the fact that Below didn’t explain how to even manage your hunger meant you’d spend a while just trying to work out even how to die a little later.

It made Below feel like an unfair slog. After a couple of hours, I’d had enough.

So you could get the entire Uncharted series for free from this month alone!

Usually one larger game headlines the list, and we suspect No Man’s Sky would be an appropriate pick for May.

Granblue Fantasy Versus’ Zooey DLC Coming on PC Day and Date With PS4

PC gamers won’t have to wait longer than their PS4 brethren for the upcoming DLC of Granblue Fantasy Versus.

Fans of Cygames and Arc System Works’ fighting game playing on PC had to wait a bit longer for the previous batch of DLC featuring Djeeta and Soriz, but it looks like that was an isolated issue.

Cygames has announced officially on Twitter that the next DLC featuring Zooey will come on PC at the same time as PS4, on April 28.

The announcement was made both in English and Japanese, so there shouldn’t be differences between regions.

Granblue Fantasy Versus  is currently available for PS4 and PC. If you want to read more about the game (and the upcoming action JRPG Granblue Fantasy Relink) you can also read our recent review with director Tetsuya Fukuhara alongside our review.

10 Most Iconic Final Fantasy Monsters of All Time

With the release of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, we’ve decided to take a look back at some of the most iconic and recognizable Final Fantasy monsters of all time. Here are our top 10 favorites from the series’ history.

Chocobo

You know you’ve officially “made it” when you have adorable plushies fashioned after your inherently cute design. The Chocobo is a staple in any Final Fantasy game. A monster nonetheless, but a cute one.

Chocobos are large bird-like creatures that can be ridden across the wilderness of whatever landmass the Final Fantasy you’re playing finds you. Chocobos come in a variety of forms: Fat (item storage), multi-colored (traversal of different terrain), armored (war), race-ready, or the hero of the story (much love to Chocobo Mystery Dungeon).

War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Getting New Tactics Crossover: Delita, Agrias, & Mustadio

War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is considered by many the spiritual successor of Final Fantasy Tactics, and the two games are crossing the streams once more in Japan.

The Japanese version of the game already had a Final Fantasy Tactics crossover last year, featuring Ramza Beoulve, Goffard Gaffgarion, and Cidolfus Orlandeau.

Now a second collaboration is coming, including Delita Heiral, Agrias Oaks, and Mustadio Bunansa.

The collaboration will launch on the Japanese version of the game on April 22, and it will also bring back Ramza, Goffard, and Cidolfus for a second round.

At the moment we don’t know when either part of the crossover will come to the recently-released English version. Since it’s a few months behind in content, it’s likely going to be a while, but they should come at some point.

In the meanwhile, you can check out a trailer below.

Top 45 Best JRPGs on PS4

Updated on April 20, 2020

The following is a list of the best JRPGs PS4 has to offer. Rest assured that Persona 5, Nier, and many Final Fantasy games are all on here. Read on for our best JRPGs on PS4.

Best PS4 JRPGs

1. Shenmue III

Your mileage will definitely vary with this one, depending on how much you’re willing to put up with. Shenmue III is a direct follow-up to the two original Sega Dreamcast games, and is a straight continuation of Ryo’s story from Shenmue II. It definitely feels a little dated for a modern audience, but its charm is undeniable.

2. Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 may very well be considered the Dark Souls series at its finest. Providing closure for all the questions raised in prior entries while delivering on a formula that challenges you but never makes things feel unfair, the game is a true embodiment of an excellent action JRPG.

3. Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir

The Shakespearean-tongued Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir is much more charming than its vibrant visuals suggest. Chaining combos in the air makes for a compelling gameplay experience not typically found in other JRPGs, and unique skill trees for each character add a level of complexity that you wouldn’t have otherwise thought could be in such a pretty game.

4. NioH

NioH is a JRPG made in the vein of the Dark Souls series that possesses enough style of its own to set itself apart and exclusive to the PS4. The super smooth and varied gameplay keeps the player constantly on their toes, plus there’s so much content here to keep one playing for days on end.
