Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge Are the Real Heart of Final Fantasy VII Remake

When it was announced that the new iteration of Final Fantasy VII would be a remake and not just a remaster, fans knew it would probably come with a slew of changes.

Although many aspects of the original game are expanded and built upon, the most noticeable are the members of Avalanche: Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge.

Spoiler Warning: This article will be talking about some scenes in the game involving Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge. Nothing that happens towards the end of the game, but if you don’t want to spoiled on anything at all, please click away.

In the original, the Midgar section of the game is about five hours, and in the remake, it’s the entire game. Thus, you get to spend a lot more time with Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge (all of whom are beautifully voice acted), who help you gain a perspective into the lives of people that live in Midgar.

Mainline Danganronpa Games Announced for Mobile Platforms

During the livestream for the Famitsu Dengeki Game Awards 2019 Spike Chunsoft delivered more information about the  Danganronpa 10th Anniversary Project.

The first relevant announcement of the project is that the three mainline games of the series (Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony) will be released for mobile.

They will feature improved playability on a touch screen and dedicated UI for smartphone, on top of art galleries.

On top of this, we also get the announcement of a collaboration with Netease’s survival horror game Identity V.

Spike Chunsoft then announced a series of monthly livestreams dedicated to commemorating the series. They will start on May 21 from 9 pm to 10 pm Japan time.

Lastly, we got a trailer to celebrate the 10th anniversary, which you can watch below.

The project was announced a few days ago by Spike Chunsoft, which promised “more Danganronpa content” and encouraged fans to “stay tuned for future announcements.”

Apparently, this is just the beginning, so we should indeed stay tuned for what is yet to come.

Hopefully, there will be actual new games in store (and possibly on consoles), but it’s probably too early to tell, at least for now.

Azur Lane Confirms “Crimson Echoes” Rerun for English Servers

Following the announcement for Japan made earlier today, Yostar revealed its plans for a rerun of a popular event on the English servers of its mobile game Azur Lane.

The event is “Crimson Echoes” which was originally launched in January 2019.

This is certainly welcome news for many considering that the event focuses on Amagi, who was voted as the most popular shipgirl by the western audience last year.

What remains to be seen is whether we’re getting a pure rerun of the old event or the boosted version coming to the Japanese servers including battleship Tosa and two new destroyers ( Maganami and Hanazuki).

We’ll keep you posted as soon as Yostar announces further information but for now, you can check out the trailer with English subtitles below.

If you’re unfamiliar with Azur Lane, it’s is a free-to-play mobile horizontal scrolling shooter/RPG hybrid currently available for iOS and Android.

Why Final Fantasy VII Remake’s Final Boss Doesn’t Really Work (Major Spoiler Warning)

Warning: massive spoiler alert for Final Fantasy VII Remake contained within! You probably figured as much when you read the title though, right? We will be talking about what happens at the end of the game.

A reimagining of one of gaming’s most treasured works is bound to be divisive. It doesn’t matter whether you’re concerned about censorship or just anxious to know whether it maintains the quirky, sometimes janky elements of the original that captivated us over two decades ago, you’re likely to have reservations. (PS. “attack while it’s tail’s up!”)

One of the interesting points of contention, however, is whether the integrity of the plot will be maintained. At the time of its initial release, it was a revolutionary yarn that took twists and turns, making bold strides towards the kind of cinematic storytelling that comes standard in today’s industry. It was a primordial predecessor in so many ways.

The alterations, sometimes on a grand scale, are apparent early on in the Final Fantasy VII Remake, and you can take them however you like. Several, which I won’t mention directly in this article, are sure to be met with massive backlash by many members of the community in the coming days/hours/minutes/present moment.

In fairness, Square Enix aren’t trying to do a step-by-step facsimile of the PS1 classic, and if any changes don’t sit well with you, the original is still right there and available to play on modern platforms — go nuts.

Animal Crossing’s Stalk Market Brings out the Best of the Community

After saving up tons of bells last week, I finally had enough to feel comfortable dropping one million on turnips. Come Sunday I would be taking my biggest risk so far in New Horizons when a perpetually sniffly boar would let me try my hand at playing the stalk market.

When the turnip seller, Daisy Mae, comes to town in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s like a little weekly New Year’s Day for those of us who are into the stalk market. Even if you had a bad week, it’s a brand new opportunity to try something different that could turn your fortunes around.

It’s exciting, scary and joyous all at the same time.

Everyone shares their turnip prices so we can all get the best deals and then storing them is a whole ordeal on its own. I’ve seen people make entire rooms, massive fenced gardens and even paths made of turnips.

Developer Dotemu has been dropping Streets of Rage 4 trailers and teasers one after the other for months now, but one of the few things they never showed was a release date. Fans will be happy to know that that’s no longer the case.

Azur Lane Reveals Major Event With Japanese Shipgirls Aplenty; World of Warships Crossover Announced

Today Yostar revealed the next major event for its popular shipgirl-focused mobile game Azur Lane during a livestream from Japan.

The event has not yet been confirmed for the English servers, so keep that in mind, even if Yostar has been quite good at launching almost all major events at the same time.

It’ll start on April 23 and end on May 7 and it’ll bring back the Sakura Empire-focused event “Crimson Echoes” from January 2019, but it won’t be entirely the same.

We’ll see the return of Amagi, Kaga’s battleship version (The real Kaga was initially planned as the second Tosa-class battleship), Makinami, Ashigara, Naka, and Hatakaze, but there is more.

The event will also include the SSR battleship Tosa, the SR Destroyer Maganami, and the SR Destroyer Hanazuki.

On top of that, we’re getting new skins for Makinami, Hanazuki, Naka, Ashigara, Maganami, and Hiei, on top of a retrofit for Isuzu.

We also learn that Zeppy, Hiei-Chan, and Akagi-chan will be added to the permanent construction pool.

Last, but not least, the third collaboration with World of Warships has been announced. While no details have been provided, the event will happen in both games. More news about this will come at a later date.

In These Trying Times, Ring Fit Adventure Keeps Me Sane (and Fit)

The COVID-19 situation has caused a number of countries to go into lockdown, or at least impose restrictions such that people are forced to limit their daily outings and stay home instead. With no real end in sight to the lockdown, and my realization that even as an introvert, this is just way too much home time for me, I’ve grown exceedingly appreciative and grateful for video games, my Nintendo Switch, and Ring Fit Adventure.

Switches have been selling out fast over the past couple months or so, and even if you could find one in the wild you’d probably have to buy it at an insane markup. Having had my Switch since launch, the deluge of video game releases have certainly been effective in curbing my boredom and keeping me from going quite mad in my own house.

But then there was another problem: how do I stay in shape while spending the bulk of my time at home?

The solution turned out to be pretty simple as I laid my eyes on Ring Fit Adventure while browsing the Switch catalog one afternoon. It’s not a cheap game; coming in at a couple hundred dollars, you’re investing in the game, along with the included accessories: a leg strap and a Ring-Con. Desperate for something new to keep my attention while allowing me to maintain my fitness at the same time, I ordered it without a second thought.

This past week, I’ve settled into a new routine: wake up, take a quick shower, pop in Ring Fit Adventure, and complete a level or two. It’s surprisingly worked wonders for my mental health. Being cooped up in a house for almost the entire day for an indefinite period of time has definitely taken its toll, and being able to release that stress in a productive and healthy manner helps.

Inside Final Fantasy 7 Remake Episode 5 Is About Its Superb Graphics

Aside from the odd wonky texture here and there, Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s graphics are absolutely superb. Character animations, the panning shots of Midgar, and the frenzy of its vibrant battle encounters are some of the most eye-popping visuals we’ve seen this generation. And today’s Inside Final Fantasy 7 Remake episode, the last in the series, puts a spotlight on exactly that.

The episode sheds light on the various development processes, inspirations, and core principles that guided the team’s choices in aesthetics for the game. That includes a fascinating insight into how the lipsynching for cutscene animations was automatically generated. There’s also time spent reflecting on the original game’s graphics, looking back on its various innovations and limitations.

You’ll hear supporting commentary from producer Yoshinori Kitase, directors Tetsuya Nomura and Naoki Hamaguchi, character modeling director Masaaki Kazeno, lead animator Hiroyuki Nagatsuka, and battle animation director Hiroyuki Yamaji.

SnowRunner’s “United We Drive” Trailer is a Hilarious Death Stranding Parody

Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding attempts to preach all sorts of powerful social commentary and deep philosophical questions. Personally, though, all I remember is delivering goods from one place to another like a madman for 60 hours. And the memes.

However, Saber Interactive’s hilarious new parody trailer for its upcoming SnowRunner might just trump the lot of them.

Called “United We Drive,” the spoof features the same narration-style, font, trendy music, and overly dramatic tone of Kojima’s divisive action-adventure game. Oh, and the absurdly on-the-nose character/truck names, too!

And in practice, SnowRunner has largely the same premise: “Keep America Going,” is a nod of the hate to Death Stranding, of course, but struggling across rugged terrain and maintaining the country’s infrastructure are two major elements that both games have in common.

For those who would like a flavor of the actual gameplay experience, here’s a previous trailer providing an overview of how SnowRunner plays:

Each day during the Guardian Games you’ll be able to earn bronze, silver, and gold medals by participating in certain game modes and picking up laurels on the battlefield by defeating enemies with your new fancy class item equipped (see below).

None of these Pokemon becoming more available will cause any major shakeups in PvP or PvE. Yet, it’ll help players who are looking to complete their dex and don’t have Volbeat or Ilumise yet.

When it comes to bonuses, they’re all about making your experience with your buddy better in every aspect. It’ll be easier to get buddy candies and hearts since they’re going to cut the required walking distance in half.

Better yet, your buddy Pokemon will bring you gifts more often and they even teased that you might get a new kind of gift from them. Here are the rest of the bonuses for the Buddy Up event:

It’ll be easier for your buddy to get excited!

Abra Community Day in Pokemon GO Finally Gets a New Date

Originally, Abra was supposed to be the Community Day focus in Pokemon GO for the month of March. Tons of gameplay changes and one pandemic later, we finally have a new date for Abra Community Day.

It’s essentially going to have all the same features you would expect from a regular Community Day with some extras that promote playing from home. Just to recap, here’s everything from the original event that is still happening in this rescheduled Abra Community Day.

You’re going to find Abra more often in the wild, a shiny version will be available, Alakazam will learn Counter during the event and there will be a paid Special Research quest titled Investigating Illusions.

That’s your standard Community Day fare except for the Special Research where you can earn 13 thousand stardust, a poffin, a rocket radar and more. There have been paid Special Research quests in the past, but this is the first to coincide with a Community Day event.

On top of those features, they also have a list of others included in what they’re calling Community Day: Play at Home Edition. Arguably the biggest change is that the standard length of the event has been doubled from three hours to six.

Catch stardust will now be tripled instead of just doubled. Instead of lures lasting for three hours, incense will now get a duration boost of the same amount. This will not only encourage players to participate in the event but do so from the safety of their own homes.

To even further the playability of Pokemon GO’s Abra Community Day at home, Great Buddies will frequently find Poke Balls and other items throughout the event.

Later Daters Is a Dating Sim With Senior Citizens; Out Now for Switch and PC

Dating sims seem to be all the rage now. There’s a dad dating sim, a weapon dating sim, and now there’s a dating simulator called Later Daters that has you playing as a senior citizen in a retirement community.

Later Daters launched today on Switch and PC and is being self-published by Bloom Digital.

You can enjoy LGBTQ inclusive romance and poly relationship options, customize the look of your character, and you can even pick a cat, dog, or robot to act as your loyal companion. And the most important aspect: you can flirt with eight other residents of the old folks home.

Here’s the synopsis from the Steam page for Later Daters:

You’re the newest resident at Ye OLDE retirement community, where you’ll meet a cast of sexy seniors who are all dying (not literally) to meet you. It’s a lot like summer camp, but with orthopedic shoes, bridge clubs, and more jell-o. It’s an adjustment as you settle in, but who knows: maybe these will turn out to be the best years of your life!

Adventure, passion, and transformation are not experiences reserved for the young. Later Daters portrays the aging process as a rollicking romp and reminds us of what the elderly can teach us about our capacity for love.

Mount & Blade 2 Is a Perfect Self-Isolation Remedy

Welp! TaleWords’ long-awaited sandbox RPG Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord has its claws in me; I’m so far down the rabbit hole I can barely find my way out to take a shower or make something to eat.

Even when I do, it’s still on my damn mind: Queuing for the grocer, I nearly declared war when the bloke in front of me paid £23.99 in pennies; on the way home I pondered the efficiency of setting up a caravan instead of lugging “goods” by hand. And when the receipt in my pocket reminded me I’d just spent three times the normal price for a can of tuna, I cursed those pesky panic-buyers for laying siege to the town’s supermarket.

Still, small interruptions aside, I find myself actually glad that self-isolation means there’s barely anything to disturb my quest across Calradia. I don’t even have to pretend I’m disappointed to be letting friends down for missing social occasions! There’s not the slightest bit of guilt as I scurry to my PC at every waking moment… even if my obsession with it is very clearly driving me insane.

Final Fantasy VII Remake’s Staircase Scene Hits Different This Time Around

“The real challenge starts now.”

This is what the mercenary Cloud says after hiking up a 59-story staircase in Shinra HQ to attempt to rescue a dear friend. This very long climb up in Final Fantasy VII Remake comes straight from the original PS1 classic and after having experienced it in a new, remastered way, it hits different this time around.

Don’t worry! We’re not going into spoiler territory here as this piece doesn’t contain any end-game plot points, other than vaguely talking about the stairway climb, obviously.

You see, the staircase scene happens in the early hours of the original Final Fantasy VII. There’s a point when the player gets to choose whether to face enemies to reach the top of the Shinra tower by taking an elevator or by going through a quieter route by way of a staircase.

It’s a scene that you don’t see if you choose the former, and although the hike up the stairs didn’t do much for me in the original game, in the remake, it made much more of an impact.

Instead of taking place in the beginning, the scene happens roughly 20 hours into the game. By this point, we’ve spent a lot more time seeing just how Cloud’s relationship with Tifa and Barret has grown into something more than just work friends. They are a team now, with a clear unified goal, and tragedy has made their bonds inseparable.

People have died, friends were lost, and their goal is to take down this huge evil corporation, and trekking up this 59-story staircase tied it all together.

I included a video of the scene down below if you’ve yet to see it, but just be careful because this falls into spoiler territory:

Valorant Beta Impressions: Old Dog, New Tricks

If you’ve been on Twitch lately you have definitely noticed Valorant, the new competitive fps developed by Riot Games.

It blends the 5v5 tactical multiplayer of Counter-Strike with the abilities of the hero shooter genre. While both styles are familiar, together it makes for an entirely new spin on things that works very well.

After spending time with the closed beta each match I played came down to three important factors. Your team composition, your ability to make accurate and effective shots, and communication.

Currently, in Valorant, there are nine characters that all bring something unique to the table. Making sure your characters synergize well together can give you a huge advantage early on.

For instance, the character Brimstone comes equipped with smoke grenades that can be dropped from the sky. This on its own is useful, but when paired with Raze’s cluster grenades or Viper’s poison pool you can create some serious area denial to gain an advantageous position.
