Ace Combat 7 Composer Plays For Us on Brand New Ace Combat YouTube Channel, and it’s Glorious

Today Ace Combat developer Project Aces opened a brand new YouTube channel dedicated to the franchise.

The channel debuted with two videos featuring ultra-talented composer Keiki Kobayashi playing two of his compositions for the series.

The first that you’ll see below is the main theme of Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, followed by the theme of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown.

This initiative was born from an idea on how to provide entertainment to the fans stuck at home due to the Coronavirus emergency.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried all the way through the two videos that you can watch (and listen to) below. Ace Combat’s music just clicks with me.

WWE 2K21 Getting Skipped to Give Devs More Time to Improve Series; New Arcade-Style Game Announced

2K, publisher of the popular WWE 2K games, announced today that they will be allowing Visual Concepts more time to develop their next WWE game in order to give them adequate time to respond to player feedback and improve future games. Patrick Gilmore, a veteran of studios that have worked on games such as Killer Instinct and Medal of Honor, will be the new executive producer.

A new game, WWE 2K Battlegrounds, will be released this fall and will be developed by Saber Interactive, the studio behind NBA 2K Playgrounds. You can check out the trailer below which features The Rock feeding John Cena to a crocodile.

To the casual observer it may seem shocking that an annual sports game is being put on any kind of hiatus, but those that have followed and played the WWE 2K games as of late probably saw this coming. WWE 2K20 was critically panned on release and fans have been vocal over the last few years about a drop in quality in the games.

Based on the wording of the open letter provided to all fans today, it appears that Visual Concepts will be given at least through the 2021 fiscal year (AKA late 2020) to work on their next game. There’s no word yet if fans should expect a game in 2021 instead but considering 2K hasn’t outright cancelled the series, fans can probably remain hopeful that is the case.

Pokemon Masters Adds Egg-Hatching Feature For Classic Starter Pokemon

The classic Kanto region starter Pokemon from the original games are being added to DeNa’s Pokemon Masters in a unique way; Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle can now be hatched from eggs.

A new video trailer published today celebrates the new update, paying homage to Pokemon Red and Blue in the process. As seen in the footage, once players have hatched their starters they’ll be able to battle alongside them as a sync pair.

The new eggs are acquired from Professor Bellis the next time players log into the game, allowing them to choose which Pokemon they want it to hatch into and what their names are.

Today’s classic Pokemon are said to be just the first batch to be incorporated into the egg-hatching mechanic. More Pokemon will be made available at a later date.

You can check out the new trailer below.

Other new features in this latest update include a new legendary event, sync pair, and a scout feature. The details are broken down in a press release sent to Twinfinite:

These 5 Square Enix JRPGs Could Use a Remake Too

We live in an era of remakes, and the recently released and phenomenal Final Fantasy VII Remake shows just what a truly next-level remake can look like.

So much more than a remaster, a remake is a reimagining of a title that is able to push the bounds of our expectations, and by doing so, create something else entirely.

Over its long and storied history, Square Enix has released some of the best and most beloved JRPGs in the entire genre. Let’s take a look at some games that would make for unbelievable remakes, and as an extra challenge, only look at games outside of the Final Fantasy franchise.

I Have Watched the Animal Crossing: New Horizons End Credits Sequence So Many Times

There is no real ‘ending’ to a game like Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game is what you make it out to be, and you can continuously iterate upon your island, making it the best, most attractive resort it can be. There is, however, an end credits sequence.

Once you’ve gotten past the tutorial phase of the game, you can start recruiting residents to your island and try to beautify it as much as possible. The goal here then becomes to get your island to reach a three-star rating, all so you can get the attention of one K.K. Slider, a famous doggo musician. The game ‘ends’ in a sense once you finally manage to get K.K. to show up at your island and perform a concert there.

It’s a beautiful scene as the lights dim and you and your villagers all gather round K.K. to take in the music and vibe with each other. The New Horizons theme is also relaxing and beautiful, and watching the credits roll on your screen feels like a nice, cathartic experience.

It’s also an experience that you can repeat multiple times every Saturday.

After K.K. Slider’s initial performance, he comes back to your island every Saturday, and you can get him to perform a song in the evening. Whatever song he performs first that evening, he’ll even give you a free copy of the music so you can register it and play it whenever you want. Like a true performer, he even does encores and take requests.

Over the last two Saturdays in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I’ve been doing exactly that. Unwittingly, I have become K.K. Slider’s number one fan and I am now on a quest to collect a copy of every single song he’s ever sung, and prove to the rest of my plebeian villagers that I truly am the most knowledgeable K.K. fan out there.

Gears Tactics Review – Getting the COGS Turning

Gears Tactics on PC

Back in September 2006, during Microsoft’s XO6 media briefing, Halo Wars was officially announced. It took the Xbox’s most prized exclusive IP and turned the sci-fi first-person shooter into a real-time strategy game. Despite being such a major divergence from the series’ roots, Halo Wars just felt right. Developer Ensemble Studios captured everything fans knew and loved about the Halo universe and packed it into a fast-paced, compelling real-time strategy title that was worthy of being associated with Master Chief’s epic series.

Now, in 2020, it’s time for the Gears of War series to get its own makeover. The end result is Gears Tactics, a surprisingly excellent turn-based tactics game I struggled to put down.

A collaborative effort between mainstream series developer The Coalition and Splash Damage, Gears Tactics puts the focus on strategy and intelligent play, over muscles and chainsaw bayonets, and obliterating a Locust’s head with a shotgun.

Taking place not long after Emergence Day (E-Day for you Gears veterans), Gears Tactics follows the story of Gabe Diaz, the father of Gears 5’s protagonist Kait, as he’s tasked with taking down the Locust eugenicist, Ukkon. In other words, he’s the guy making all the horrifying Locust creatures you’ve filled with shrapnel in previous titles.

Initially, I wasn’t all that sold on Tactics’ story. It’s serviceable in the sense that it gave me a reason to progress through the campaign and look forward to its story missions far more than the side missions (we’ll get to these later), but it wasn’t until the latter half where things really picked up.

Quick! Alien Isolation & Others Discounted Hugely for Alien Day

Ever heard of Alien Day? We hadn’t either, but it should definitely be on your radar; a Steam Sale in honor of 4/26 has seen huge franchise-wide discounts on for the next 30 or so hours. Chief among the deals is a tremendous discount on Creative Assembly’s superb but often overlooked Alien Isolation, which is just $2.00!

The first-person game felt like a breath of fresh air for Alien video games when it launched in 2014, replacing the corny action of botched efforts like Colonial Marines with a top-notch survival horror experience more in keeping with the first (and best) film.

You play Amanda Ripley, daughter of the iconic Ellen Ripley, as she attempts to find her mother in the far reaches of space many years after the events of the original Alien film. Her search takes her to a distant outpost called Sevastopol, but when she arrives, something nefarious has left the space station eerily deserted. Any guesses on what that might be?

Isolation’s most impressive features are twofold: first, it’s a near-perfect recreation of the aesthetic from Alien, which is that wonderful 1970s vision of futuristic tech which is so synonymous with the first film.

Secondly, the excellent AI of the alien antagonist, which tirelessly hunts you throughout. Much of was made of its ability to learn player-actions on the fly during the build-up to Alien Isolation’s original launch, and it certainly delivers

While there’s no doubt Alien Isolation is the definitive Alien video game experience, there are discounts on other games within the franchise too. The Aliens vs. Predator Collection, for example, is $4.79, while the Colonial Marines Collection is $5.99.

Tactics Feels Like Classic Gears

Gears Tactics may be a part of Microsoft’s long-standing Gears of War series, but it differs majorly when it comes to gameplay. Rather than guiding a hulking COG soldier narrow hallways and waves of Locusts, this time you’re taking a step back.

As the commander, you’ll be guiding a team of four units across a battlefield to complete objectives. Sometimes you’ve got to hold down control points to gather supplies, other times you’re destroying a Locust Imulsion supply.

Bungie Seeks to Clamp Down Harder on Destiny 2 Cheaters, Including Fireteammates of Cheaters

During these uncertain COVID-19 times where more and more people are staying and working from home, that also means that more people are playing video games. However, the flip side is that cheating might also be on the rise. This was indeed the case with Destiny 2, where Bungie has noted in their latest blog post that the cheating rate has gone up since January.

This past weekend, the latest competitive PvP Trials event went live as well, and while Bungie states that they were prepared and ready to deal with the uptick in cheating, they still weren’t happy with the overall results. With all this in mind, it’s become clear that the company is ready to clamp down hard on Destiny 2 cheaters, and that even includes the people who might’ve been on the same Fireteam as said cheaters, regardless of whether they actually cheated or not.

Concerning cheating, Engineering Director David Aldridge stated:

“When your pinnacle achievements are denied by encountering a cheater on a high Trials ticket, or devalued by seeing someone else with ill-gotten goods, that’s frustrating. Those frustrations are happening too often right now, and the vengeance of the Banhammer is often too far behind.”

This Week at Bungie

To combat this, Bungie is assigning more staff and manpower to monitor user data to identify cheaters. Most crucially, if you benefit from being in the same Fireteam as a cheater, you’re liable to banned from the game as well.

“We want you to find new friends out there, but be sure they have your trust before you go. If you LFG your way into a fireteam with a cheater, get out and report them. If you ride them to a flawless, the Banhammer will come for you as well.”

BitSummit Gaiden Announced for June Following Cancellation Due to Coronavirus

The Japan Independent Games Association announced that it’ll host BitSummit Gaiden in June as an online event.

This new event will be hosted on June 27 and June 28, and it’ll replace the 8th edition of Bitsummit that has been canceled due to the Coronavirus emergency.

The event will happen entirely online with livestream via Twitch, chats via Discord, virtual booths for developers, and even playable demos.

Information on speakers and a detailed schedule will be communicated soon on BitSummit’s official website.

If you’re unfamiliar with BitSummit, it’s Japan’s most relevant independent gaming event, usually hosted every year in Kyoto.

It usually brings together many smaller developers mostly from Japan, but plenty from the west also join the festivities.

It’ll be interesting to see what Bitsummit Gaiden will offer this year. Of course, you can expect full coverage here on Twinfinite.

If you’re wondering, “Gaiden” means “side story” which is pretty appropriate for an event hosted online to replace a regular festival like the original BitSummit.

According to Gamesindustry‘s report of the chart, Nintendo’s cutesy game beats FIFA 20 back to the top with a 53% increase in sale week-over-week.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare completes the top-three followed by Ring Fit Adventure, which is obviously rather suitable for times of quarantine. Its sales increased by 95% week-over-week.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake dropped down to the eighth place with its sales declining by 50% week-over-week, while Trials of Mana didn’t quite make the top-10, ranking 16th with 61% of sales on the Switch and 39% on PS4. Fate/Grand Order Getting Cute Meltlilith Nendoroid Figure

The popularity of Fate/Grand Order is still going extremely strong, and figure manufacturers continue to portray its characters basically non-stop.

Next on the menu is a Nendoroid portraying Meltlilith (or Meltryllis if you prefer that romanization) by Good Smile Company. You can find it available for pre-order on Ami Ami for 4,870 yen, which translates approximately into $45.

If you’re not familiar with the Nendoroid series, it’s a line of super-deformed posable figures by Good Smile Company that has become so popular over the years that many use the name as the definition for all chibi figures.

This one will release in November 2020 and stands at approximately 110mm tall. That’s actually a tiny bit taller than many Nendos due to her rather unique boots.

Of course, it comes with a base. Good luck having her stand on her own otherwise.

“Trample them underfoot…? How delicious.”

From the popular smartphone game “Fate/Grand Order” comes a Nendoroid of the Alter Ego class servant “Meltryllis”! She comes with three face plates including her composed standard expression, a provocative sneering expression and a blushing expression. Additionally, effect parts to recreate action scenes from the game and a Fou plushie are included as optional parts. Be sure to add her to your collection!”

Impressive Solo Project Mecha Knights: Nightmare Shows Improved Graphics and Missiles in New Video

Mecha Knights: Nightmare developer Damian Kubiak released a new video of his solo-developed mecha game, showing more progress.

This time around we get to see graphical improvement thanks to the transition to the latest version of Unity.

On top of that, we can take a look at a variety of missile weapon systems, both guided and unguided.

As usual, it looks quite impressive, especually considered that it’s made by a single developer.

You can enjoy the video below.

Set in 2049, Mecha Knights: Nightmare depicts a scenario in which monsters of unknown origin have appeared on Earth, and they’re gradually pushing humanity to the brink of annihilation.

Among the sources of inspiration, its creator cites Armored Core, Front Mission, Earth Defence Force, Resident Evil, Blue Gender, and Muv-Luv. Personally, I can say this makes the project even more promising. Anyone mentioning Muv-Luv and Blue Gender among their sources of inspiration has my attention. I’m quite sure reading the brief description above will prove familiar to the fans of said titles.

The release window listed on Steam is fall 2020. At the moment, no other platforms have been mentioned.

Valorant’s Competitive Mode Explained, Ranking System and Lack of Decay Detailed

Developed by Riot Games, Valorant is the newest and hottest competitive shooter game around. After an extensive beta period with just casual matches, Riot is finally ready to share some details about the competitive mode and explain exactly how it’ll work.

There are a total of eight ranks with three tiers each, except for the highest rank which is just referred to as Valorant. The ranks are as follows:

  • Iron
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Immortal
  • Valorant

Riot explains that in order to unlock the competitive mode, you’ll need to play 20 Unrated matches to warm up. After that, once you start playing competitive matches, your rank will be decided by your performance.

For the most part, winning matches will be the most important factor in determining your rank. However, Riot has also put a system into place that tracks your own individual performance, along with how decisively a match was won or lost. This should help incentivize players to play to the best of their ability, and prevent them from throwing matches, as it could reduce in a greater rank decrease otherwise.

In addition to that, the rankings will also take into account a player’s overall performance across all matches to prevent smurfing or paid level boosting, which can be a pretty common practice in other competitive games. Matchmaking will take into account player skill level of course, along with party size, and players will too great of a difference in ranking will not be able to play together.

Finally, the last major point was on the lack of rank decay. If you don’t play a competitive match in 14 days, your rank will be hidden but it won’t decay. After you’ve played another few matches, the game will display your rank again.

Getting Rich Through Bug-Selling in Animal Crossing: New Horizons May Be Way Harder Now

This past week saw the release of a new update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and it’s an exciting one that brings quite a bit of new content to the game. Nature Day is here, Leif and Redd have been added as new NPCs, and the museum is even getting an expansion in the form of an art gallery. However, Nintendo’s also trying to stop the Bell economy from inflating too much.

The first form of these money-making nerfs comes with the drop in bank interest rates. As soon as you log in, you’ll receive a letter from the Bank of Nook informing you that interest rates have decreased, which means that you’ll receive a lot less money for leaving money in the ABD.

Even further than that, though, it looks like making money through selling bugs will also become much harder. Dataminers have dug into the update and game code and it looks like spawn rates for valuable bugs like the peacock butterfly, scorpion, and tarantula have all been nerfed. Whereas previously certain bugs had higher spawn rates in specific months or times of day, now all bugs have fixed spawn rates, making it harder to farm the valuable ones for money.

Some fans apparently felt that they’ve been misled by the appearance of Pokemon such as Dewgong showing up in the anime.

Activision shared that Call of Duty Modern Warfare was the fastest-selling Call of Duty this generation, but even so, there are players that play Warzone for free without the full game. If you’re one of those players, now’s your chance to try out Modern Warfare with this free weekend.

The free weekend starts Apr. 24 at 10:00AM PT and lasts until Apr. 27 at 10:00AM PT. It gives Warzone-only players access to certain parts of the Modern Warfare multiplayer mode. It’ll provide access to five maps and five game modes, including some Season 3 content.

According to Activision’s website, the maps are limited to Aniyah Incursion, Hovec Sawmill, Talsik Backlot, Khandor Hideout, and Shoot House. The playable modes are Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, Hardpoint, and Headquarters.

To jump into a Modern Warfare multiplayer session from Warzone, simply enter the Lobby, and you’ll see the 24/7 Playlist. Once you’re in the Playlist, you’re all set.

Total War: Shogun 2 Is Free to Keep in the Spirit of #StayHomeSaveLives

As Twinfinite reported last week, Creative Assembly has been offering discounts across the entire Total War franchise this month, which kicked off in tandem with a free trial of Total War: Warhammer 2. Today, it’s gone one better, announcing a new sale from April 27 and giving away Total War: Shogun 2 completely free of charge to those who download it between that date and May 1.

There’s more to it than just spearheading the promotion, though. As explained in an FAQ post, Creative Assembly hopes its giveaway contributes to the #StayHomeSaveLives campaign, which encourages people to remain in self-isolation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The past few weeks have presented unimaginable challenges for many of us, but the remarkable collective effort being made by the global community to overcome this moment of adversity has been truly inspirational.

With this in mind, we want to continue to encourage you all to stay home and save lives by extending a gift to everyone to help make this difficult situation a little bit easier.

Everyone at Creative Assembly is now working from home, and we hope that this will help everyone with that stay home mission – #StayHomeSaveLives.

If you haven’t played Shogun 2, the grand strategy game from 2011 sees players take command of a 16th-century feudal Japanese army as they attempt to wrestle control of the islands.

As has become typical of the series, gameplay revolves not only around effective strategy in combat but also the development of settlements, military production, economic growth, and the technological advancement of their clan.
