Breath of Fire III, IV, & V Character Designer Working on Gravity Rush Director’s New Horror Game

2 years 5 months ago

Today Bokeh Game Studio released a new video providing a relevant update on its upcoming horror game.

More specifically, we learn that Tatsuya Yoshikawa has joined the project as a character designer. Yoshikawa-sensei is well known for his work at Capcom, especially on the Breath of Fire series from III to V.

He also did some work on Gravity Rush 2, which is an important connecting element, considering that Bokeh Game Studio is led by Gravity Rush series director Keiichiro Toyama, who is also known for his work on the Siren series and Silent Hill.

Following his departure from Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio, Toyama-san launched Bokeh together with a number of other former Sony developers.

He then revealed he was working on a new horror game featuring fast-paced action.

We hear from him that the plan and story for the game aren’t finished yet, and he had Yoshikawa-sensei join this early in development so that he can still influence the direction of the title.

You can watch the video for yourself below, and take a look at the designs he created for two characters.

Mario Golf Super Rush’s Last Free Update Adds Shy Guy and Wiggler

2 years 5 months ago

Nintendo has just announced the contents of a new free update for Mario Golf Super Rush. This update (version 4.0.0) adds two new playable characters, courses, and modes. It will be the final free update to the game, coming after a previous free update back in September.

The two new playable characters in this update are Shy Guy and Wiggler.

Shy Guy is a well-balanced, all-around golfer whose special shot has the effect of blowing away balls around the point of impact. Wiggler is a power-type golfer whose special shot has the effect of blowing away balls from its point of impact as well as the surrounding area.

The two new courses are called Shelltop Sanctuary and All-Star Summit.

Shelltop Sanctuary is where Cheep Cheeps fly to and fro with two difficulty settings and all 18 holes being Par 3. All-Star Summit uses illustrations of Mario and others as its motif with brick blocks strewn throughout the course.

Finally, the two new modes are Target Golf and One-On, One-Putt.

Target Golf mode allows you to play with just tee shots, without needing to know the detailed rules of golf. One-On, One-Putt mode requires you to hit the green on the first swing and then putt into the cup on the second swing.

Below are some pictures of the new characters, courses, and modes.

Director Takayuki Nakayama concluded the livestream by mentioning that for the development team, Street Fighter V has been a project with peaks and valleys, but thanks to the fans, they have managed to accomplish what they aimed for. The developers will use this experience as the springboard to move on to the next project.

Producer Shuhei Matsumoto also added that Luke is “an important character” that will be featured in the next Street Fighter project. While this is the last digital showcase, for Street Fighter V, it’s more of a “see you soon” than a “goodbye.” The developers look forward to sharing new information next year.

Epic Games Has Acquired Rock Band Developer Harmonix

2 years 5 months ago

Developer Harmonix is the latest studio to join Epic Games’ growing publishing wing. Announced today, the studio is set to begin bringing its “unique brand of musical gaming experiences to the Metaverse.” That’s Fortnite’s Metaverse, we presume, not Zukerburg’s bizarre plans to suck us into a digital world to farm our data.

A statement over on the studio’s website reads in part:

“Over the last 26 years, we have pushed ourselves to redefine how people experience and interact with music. From the earliest days of The Axe to Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Dance Central, our VR titles, FUSER, and everything in between, we have aspired to redefine what a music game can be. Now, we’ll be working with Epic to once again challenge expectations as we bring our unique brand of musical gaming experiences to the Metaverse, and we couldn’t be more excited.”

Fans of Rockband are likely keen to understand how the studio’s plans affect the production of new DLC and peripherals for Harmonix’s games, and so the studio has compiled a brief FAQ to answer those concerns.

Put simply, support for all its games, including DLC for Rock Band and future FUSER events, will continue as normal, while all their games will remain available for purchase on the same clients they are now. You will still be able to buy Harmonix games on Steam.

The team isn’t quite ready to share any details about its future content, but apparently, we’ll find out more soon.

Varvarion Gameplay Shows 1 vs 1 Gameplay in Action

2 years 5 months ago

Today developer Polygonomicon released another trailer of its upcoming 3D combat action game Varvarion.

The video focuses on 1 vs 1 gameplay against the AI. Interestingly, the developer mentions that this video was recorded in 2020, but never published.

The reason for that is that they were worried that people would see the game as a PvP-only game. Now that there is plenty of PvE footage around, they believe that said issue doesn’t exist anymore, so they feel comfortable showing it.

You can enjoy the video below.

Varvarion does not have a release window or announced platforms, but the developer expects it to come “most likely” on PC via Steam.

It supports local split-screen, but the developer is also planning to implement a single-player campaign. Online multiplayer will “hopefully” come as well, but it’s not seen as a priority for now.

Here’s how the developer officially describes the game.

Call of Duty Cold War Warzone Fan Creates a Sick Anime Opening

2 years 5 months ago

Anime has always been known to have some pretty insane opening theme songs and animations, as shows like Dragon Ball Z and JuJutsu Kaisen have put out multiple bangers that are on loop in many fans’ minds. As such, it is always great to see creative people go out of their way to make anime-styled videos for other forms of entertainment, and that is exactly what one Redditor did for Call of Duty Cold War Warzone.

As you can see in the post to the CODWarzone subreddit, user Elvis_98 really went all out when creating this opening, as its pacing, music, and visuals fit the anime opening style perfectly.

While pretty much everything that is used to create the video has been a part of Call of Duty Cold War Warzone’s promotional material, it’s still an impressive feat to see it cut in such a way that it actually feels like the start of an anime.

What do you think of this Call of Duty Cold War Warzone anime opening? Does it make you want an anime version of the series? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below.

Valorant Champions begins next week, Dec. 1, running through until Dec. 12. It features the 10 best teams from across the globe, each of which have earned their place by earning Circuit Points across three ‘Masters’ events throughought the year.

One of the funniest parts about being good at Rainbow Six Siege is getting to see the victory animation of whoever ends up getting MVP on the winning team. With so many different characters and emotes, you never know what you’re going to get.

That statement was especially true for Redditor Y_BoiLog_n, who incurred an animation bug that was so cool, many wanted it to be an actual part of the game. As you can see in the post to the Rainbow Six Siege subreddit below. the user got quite the interesting broken victory celebration.

Instead of just one celebration emote, this talented Vigil player got a handful of them glitched into one. Now, for any other character, this might seem out of place, but it works perfectly considering this Rainbow Six Siege Operator is known for their camo that makes it look like they’re vanishing into thin air.

Hitman III Year Two of Content Revealed; PC VR Support Coming in January

2 years 5 months ago

IO Interactive has today pledged to continue its support of Hitman III, the stealth-action sequel launched to critical acclaim earlier this year. A video today offers a brief overview of some of what’s to come, which includes PC ray-tracing, VR support for PC, and new elusive targets coming January, while new maps, storylines, and game modes will be delivered throughout the year.

Notably, IO Interactive’s Hakan Abrak introduced today’s trailer by revealing that the modern Hitman III trilogy has been played by 50 million, an impressive milestone instead. You can check out the video sequence for yourself below.

Twinfinite reviewed Hitman III earlier this year and was thoroughly impressed, scoring the game 4/5 and concluding:

“Without straying far from the successful sandbox formula, it’s an excellent final part of IO’s trilogy. While the increased freedom and level variety won’t be for everyone, Hitman 3 boasts some of the best locations and stories the series has ever seen, and there’s so much to uncover in each and every one of them.”

Following its successful launch, IO Interactive has since stated that Hitman will be “taking a break,” presumably meaning that there’s no plans for a fourth game anytime soon.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story Review – A Whole New World

2 years 5 months ago

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story on PS5

For an IP that is well established in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) space, it has been clear for some time now that League of Legends needed to branch out to bring in a bigger audience to its colorful universe. That desire to conquer more genres gave birth to Riot Forge, Riot Games’ publishing arm, and in turn, Airship Syndicate’s turn-based roleplaying game, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story.

Taking players into the world of Runeterra, and more specifically, Bilgewater Bay, we enter a world on the cusp of annihilation due to the Black Mists. While the denizens are more than used to the creeping fog emanating from the Shadow Isles, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story magnifies the threat and puts the whole of Runeterra in danger. The only hope of stopping the unrelenting march of the Black Mists are six heroes: Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Pyke, Ahri, and Yasuo.

New Atelier Sophie 2 Trailer Introduces Plachta-Not-Plachta

2 years 5 months ago

Today Koei Tecmo released a new trailer of the upcoming JRPG  Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream.

This time around, the trailer introduces Plachta, following the one that showcased Sophie herself last week (Which was released today in English and you can watch it at the bottom of the post). She’s voiced by Yuka Iguchi, who also played Lucy in Rune Factory 5, Kawakaze in Azur Lane, and Hibari in the Senran Kagura series. Of course, she also played Plachta in the first Atelier Sophie, since Gust is pretending that they aren’t the same character.

You can check the video out below, alongside a blurb officially describing Plachta.

“A young alchemist who arrived in Erde Wiege before Sophie.

She spends her days in her own atelier researching and accumulating knowledge about alchemy from dawn to dusk.

A cool theorist, she shows a vast aray of emotions such as her eyes sparkling at research into the unknown, crying after losing a match

She shares the same name as Sophie’s friend Plachta, but it appears she doesn’t know Sophie…?”

Dungeon & Fighter Fighting Game DNF Duel by Arc System Works Looks Familiar in New Trailer

2 years 5 months ago

Today Nexon released a brand new trailer of the upcoming fighting game DNF Duel, inspired by the Dungeon Fighter franchise (also known as Dungeon & Fighter in Korea).

As soon as you see the trailer, you’re probably going to recognize the developer, which is Arc System Works. If someone said that at least the visuals look like Guilty Gear with different characters, I certainly would not blame them, and it’s not a complaint.

You can check it out and see for yourself below.

Dungeon Fighter Online is quite popular worldwide (admittedly a lot more in Asia than in the west) and the game has social media accounts in English, so we can certainly expect a western release.

Dungeon Fighter Online is one of the most played games in the world if you look at actual revenue, so it was pretty much a matter of time for it to expand to other genres and markets.

At the moment, no platforms or release windows have been announced, so we’ll have to wait for further information on that front. In the meanwhile, you can watch a previous trailer and see how the game evolved.
