Halo Infinite Review – Spider-Chief? Master-Man?

2 years 5 months ago

Halo Infinite on Xbox Series X

For the past four or five years, Microsoft has been attempting to close the gap with Sony when it comes to cinematic, AAA experiences. PlayStation has become synonymous with third-person, story-driven games that take players on epic journeys across frost-bitten mythological lands and immersive historical settings, while Microsoft’s studios have struggled to reach the same dizzying highs. Halo Infinite, however, marks a turning point in this narrative — not quite an all-conquering great, but certainly a sign that Microsoft has started to find its footing when it comes to evolving its iconic franchises with new, exciting design. Infinite’s incredible production value, which marries cutting-edge visuals to simply sublime gameplay, pushes forward a movement kickstarted by Gears 5 back in 2019.

Importantly for Halo fans, it’s a clear indication that 343 Industries has been listening to fan feedback following the divisive Halo 5 and, more recently that iffy gameplay trailer from last year. Combining another epic adventure with everyone’s favorite gruff-voiced Spartan, Master Chief, with a refined but still hectic multiplayer mode, Halo Infinite is a return to form and one you absolutely cannot miss out on.

Halo Infinite offers up two distinct experiences — one a lengthy adventure with Master Chief in its campaign, and the other a chaotic arena shooter multiplayer experience. For the sake of clarity, this review will be covering both under clear headings, and both parts of the game will play a part in determining the game’s final score at the bottom of this review.

The trailer focuses on one of the available characters, the Ranger, showing his gunslinging moves in battle against the Inquisitor

As usual, it feels very familiar if you compare visuals and gameplay to Arc System Works’ games. This shouldn’t surprise considering that Nexon hired the popular Japanese fighting game developer to create the game. Final Fantasy XIV Players Will Get 7 Free Days Due to Endwalker’s Server Congestion Issues

2 years 5 months ago

Final Fantasy XIV is extremely popular and the latest expansion Endwalker (currently in early access) is attracting a ton of active and returning players.

While that’s a pretty nice problem to have for Square Enix, it is creating issues with the servers, which are extremely congested, causing players to meet login queues in the thousands and affecting the login servers with stability issues (the now infamous Error 2002).

As an apology, Square Enix announced that players with an active subscription (including those on their first 30 days after purchasing the game) will receive seven free days that will be added to their subscription total.

We also hear that additional free days may be granted depending on how the congestion situation progresses, considering that Endwalker has not actually been officially released yet.

Square Enix also shared an estimate of the hours that tend to have the longest queues:

  • North American Data Center: 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (PST) / 20:00 to 6:00 (GMT)
  • European Data Center: 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (PST) / 11:00 to 23:00 (GMT)
  • Japan Data Center: 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. (PST) / 9:00 to 15:00 (GMT)

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PlayStation 4, PS5, and PC. The upgrade to PS5 is offered free of charge to those who own the PS4 version. Endwalker will release officially on December 7.

Another Eden × Chrono Cross Interview; Game Director Discusses Upcoming Crossover

2 years 5 months ago

Following today’s announcement of the “Complex Dream” crossover between Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space and legendary JRPG Chrono Cross, fans likely have quite a few questions.

To answer some of them, Twinfinite had a chat with Another Eden game director Daisuke Takeshima, who talked about what we can expect and Wright Flyer Studios work on such a beloved IP.

Giuseppe: Could you explain how Complex Dream came to be? Who had the idea, and how was it turned into reality?

Daisuke Takeshima: We’ve received requests for a Chrono series crossover from Another Eden fans for a long time. Within the development team, we had also been discussing since release how great it would be if we could work on something with the Chrono series. We were able to have Square Enix’s blessing for this crossover which made our dream into reality.

The story is written by Masato Kato, and the music was created by Procyon Studio led by Yasunori Mitsuda. Nobuteru Yuuki, who designed the original Chrono Cross characters, oversaw the artwork. We think that these elements contributed to crossover content that would satisfy fans.

Giuseppe: We heard that Complex Dream will include new mechanics. Could you provide an outline?

Daisuke Takeshima: You’re right! We added numerous mechanics and features for this crossover.

First is “New Game+.” This mechanic did not exist in Another Eden previously, and there was no content that would diverge depending on the players’ choice. But we felt that a core element of Chrono Cross is that the players’ choice affects which characters become allies and what the player experiences. We knew this was indispensable to the crossover, so we decided to implement it.

Blending the happy-go-lucky tone and vibe of a McDonald’s advert with the eerie terror of Five Nights At Freddy’s, Happy’s Humble Burger Farm is an ode to lo-fi, 32-bit era first-person adventure games with a healthy dollop of nail-bitingly demonic horror.

Players can cook various items from the menu, serve customers, upgrade their restaurant, take out the trash, put out fires, and get rid of all those pesky rats. Sounds like my first job, to be honest.

Final Fantasy XIV Releases Paid Items To Get You to Level 80 & Ready for Endwalker as Early Access Begins

2 years 5 months ago

Today Square Enix opened the floodgates of the early access of Final Fantasy XIV’s Endwalker expansion and released a few paid items to get people up to speed.

While now the expansion is available for everyone who pre-ordered, if you’re jumping into the game right now, it may take you a while to get to level 80 and complete the story so far.

If you don’t want to go through that and jump immediately to the beginning of Endwalker, you can with new items released on the Final Fantasy XIV Online Store.

The Tales of Adventure: Shadowbringers item (priced at $25) will allow you to skill the whole story all the way to the beginning of Endwalker. That being said, it won’t raise your level at all. It’s worth mentioning that you’ll still be able to rewatch all the cutscenes and redo the main story at a later time via the New Game+ feature.

The Tales of Adventure: One Hero’s Journey III category of items (also priced at $25), will kick one job all the way up to level 80. It will also give you level-appropriate equipment and some starting gil. You have to purchase the specific kind for the job you want, but it won’t actually get you through the story. This isn’t available for the new Sage and Reaper jobs.

Basically, if you’re getting into Final Fantasy XIV today and want to immediately get into Endwalker, you’ll need both.

On top of this, you can also get the Blackbosom Reaper scythe weapon if you’re a fan of Edda Blackbosom. It costs $3 for a single weapon or $8 if you want the bundle with all.

Microsoft Flight Simulator New Freeware AI Live Traffic Add-On Revealed; Nuremberg Airport Released; Coffs Harbour Gets New Screenshots

2 years 5 months ago

Today third-party developers revealed new details about add-ons coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

First of all, we take a look at a new freeware traffic solution. FSLTL, which stands for FS Live Traffic Liveries, has released an impressive trailer showcasing its aircraft in action.

I call it “new,” but those with a good memory may remember this appearing about a year ago and then disappearing. Its developer went back to the drawing board and worked behind the scenes to create something they believe is much better and more comprehensive for what Microsoft Flight Simulator needs nowadays. Considering that it’s a completely new approach to simulating traffic, I’d say it’s “new” enough.

Looking at the trailer below, what’s on offer definitely feels impressive.

The winter season is here, and with it, Apex Legends is starting the Raiders Collection Event, which reintroduces the Winter Express alongside a new Heirloom for Wattson. The event will run from Dec. 7 to Dec. 21, so there are still a few days before it goes live.

First off, the Winter Express LTM is coming back for the holiday season. For those who haven’t played it yet, it tasks players with choosing a loadout and taking control of the train on World’s Edge by staying on it for as long as possible, as multiple squads attempt to do the same.

As with every other Collection Event, there will be a number of cosmetics that you’ll need to collect in order to obtain the Heirloom. This time around, the reward is Wattson’s Energy Reader. And with more Wattson content comes more electricity puns, of course.

In the meanwhile, the servers are currently down in preparation for early access (Until Dec. 3, 2021, at 1:00 a.m. PST), but you can already enjoy the full patch notes.

You can check the video out below and sing along.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PlayStation 4, PS5, and PC. The upgrade to PS5 is offered free of charge to those who own the PS4 version. Endwalker will release officially on December 7.

Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning: Fatesworn DLC Launching Later This Month

2 years 5 months ago

The announcement of Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning had fans of the 20012 RPG ecstatic last year, but it was actually the promise of a new, story-driven DLC that was arguably more exciting. Called Fatesworn, it hinted at the expansion of the game’s unique Celtic-inspired lore and narrative, which was interesting in the original game but never quite delivered the depth of rival games, such as Skyrim.

Well, Fatesworn is now set for its anticipated launch later this month, Dec. 14. A new trailer has today unveiled the news in a sequence that tees up “a new thread in the tapestry of fate.”

Not much is known about the story of Fatesword or whether there will be any new mechanics added to the game. The only real firm detail we have is that the DLC will add somewhere in the region of 5 hours of content.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning launched last year for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. A subsequent patch has added 4K support for newer generation consoles, and the game has also since been made available on Nintendo Switch.

Our very own Ethan Anderson reviewed the title for Twinfinite at launch and awarded the remaster a 3/5, concluding:
