2 years 6 months ago

A tweet by developer Crytek has announced that with update 1.7, the PS4 and Xbox One versions of multiplayer FPS Hunt: Showdown will now remove the previous 30 FPS lock/cap and now can be played on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at up to 60 FPS. The update does not mention a release date for update 1.7, but you can probably expect it soon.

The full Tweet reads:

Hey everyone,

We would like to announce that with Update 1.7 we will remove the cap of 30 FPS for the Xbox Series S/X and PS5. This will allow those of you on the newest generation of consoles to play Hunt at up to 60FPS,

The team is always working to improve the gameplay experience for as many players as we can. A lot of big features are coming with Update 1.7 such as the reconnect support feature and custom loadouts. So, we felt this was the perfect time to add one more long standing community request to that list.

So what are the next steps?

In the new year, we will be working to bring some improvements to the previous generation of consoles. Our next step will be to ensure a consistent and stable 30 FPS for all our players on Xbox One & Playstation 4.

Keep an eye out for future updates on the official Hunt channels.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Patch v1.05 Notes Reveal Performance Improvements

2 years 6 months ago

Eidos Montreal has a new update in store for its Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy that promises big performance improvements across all systems, though particularly for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S hardware. That’s because they’re both set to feature Ray Tracing modes following the release of Patch v1.05.

PS4 and Xbox One S players can still look forward to performance improvements, with the latter receiving an uncapped framerate option.

Here’s the full overview via Reddit:

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

  • Ray Tracing Mode is now available in the Video settings menu.

All Consoles

  • Save Rollback: A hidden Save Rollback feature was added to allow users who have encountered blocking issues to rollback to the start of the chapter of their choice. Please see this thread for more details.

PlayStation 4

  • Improved performance on the original PS4 model.
  • Changed the sensitivity required for the Visor input so that controllers with more wear and tear may still detect the button press.

Xbox Series S

  • An option to uncap the FPS was added, allowing users to run the game between 30 and 60 FPS. Please note uncapping FPS may lead to a less stable framerate in some areas. Recommended for users with a VRR display.

MultiVersus Gathers All Your Favorite Warner Bros. Characters To Fight

2 years 6 months ago

A couple weeks ago there was a leak that seemed to reveal a Smash Bros.-like platform fighting game using Warner Bros. characters. Today, in a first-look reveal trailer, MultiVersus has been fully revealed and we have gotten a look at some of the roster and gameplay.

Before we get to what the game looks like, let’s get to most important reason for why this game might stir up anticipation: the fighters. A character select screen gives us:

  • Shaggy (Scooby Doo)
  • Steven (Steven Universe)
  • Garnet (Steven Universe)
  • Harley Quinn (DC Comics)
  • Arya Stark (Game of Thrones)
  • Finn (Adventure Time)
  • Wonder Woman (DC Comics)
  • Jake (Adventure Time)
  • Superman (DC Comics)
  • Batman (DC Comics)
  • Bugs Bunny (Looney Toons)
  • Tom (Tom & Jerry)

Maps are also important, and a good bit of the trailer gives us many looks at a very cartoon-y look at the Batcave level, complete with Batmobiles.

Unlike other games in the platform fighter genre like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl or Super Smash Bros., MultiVersus will be free-to-play.

MultiVersus also promises to be a more team-focused game with co-founder and game director Tony Huynh stating “we built the game from the ground up for teamwork and co-op to deliver a more unique experience we think players will enjoy.”

Characters will even be voiced by their most notable voice actors/actresses. In the trailer you can hear:

  • Kevin Conroy as Batman
  • Maisie Williams as Arya Stark
  • Tara Strong as Harley Quinn
  • Matthew Lillard as Shaggy

MultiVersus promises cross-play and cross-progression, bringing with it “guilds and more social features.” You can probably expect some sort of Battlepass, as the trailer does show off unlockable skins. One such skin is the very cool Black Lantern Superman.

Tencent Acquires Minority Stake in Yooka-Laylee Developer Playtonic

2 years 6 months ago

Today the developers of both Yooka-Laylee games, Playtonic, announced that they have sold a minority stake of shares to the Chinese tech giant, Tencent. Playtonic will retain full control over its IP and will use the investment to expand its team which includes its development and publishing business, Playtonic Friends, and to also improve its HQ and move additional new locations,

In an interview with Gameindustry.biz, Playtonic managing director Gavin Price expanded on the decision to team up with Tencent. Price was quite blunt and open in the interview with Gameindustry.biz, telling them that Tencent is offering money, resources, and expertise to Playtonic when they need it. Price also boiled it all down and added: “But ultimately, this is about more games from us. We want to do more games more often.”

Indeed the plan according to Price is to have three separate teams working on different projects, hiring more people, doing more with Playtonic Friends, and growing into more of a force in the video game industry in general.

Playtonic the developer has released two games so far the original 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee and its “sequel” of sorts, a 2D platformer, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. As a huge fan of platformers myself, I can confidently say both are great games, but Impossible Lair stands out as one of the best 2D platformers released in recent memory.

My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission Wastes the Hype It Built

2 years 6 months ago

After watching the trailers for My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, I was really excited to see what the movie had in store. The premise teased that something exciting is at stake, as the story seemed to be about what would happen if Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, Bakugo, and Todoroki were on the run from an evil organization.

Unfortunately, after sitting through the entire thing, I have to say that the promotion of My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission fails to live up to the hype.

The story certainly starts out promising, jumping right into the threat that non-quirk user terrorists, known as Humarise, pose to society. It’s made clear that they will stop at nothing to nearly kill every quirk user, and that they can do so easily with a chemical weapon that targets those with the meta-gene.

Sure, it’s kind of a cliche to have a deus ex machina device that can do that much harm for the sake of a threat to the heroes, but at least the premise behind its creation was rooted in the Doomsday Theory from the show.

To stop this group, every top hero in Japan is mobilized and sent across the world to the locations of known Humarise bases of operations all at once. We see everyone from Fatgum to Endeavor to Hawks, with some unique, never-before-seen heroes thrown in as well.

Workstudy heroes like Deku, Bakugo, and Todoroki are also included in this mission, giving fans the impression that we’re going to see an awesome team-up with all of these heroes. More than anything, I was one of the many people who were hyped to see how the highly promoted stealth suits were going to be used.

5 Ways Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer Could Get Even Better

2 years 6 months ago

Halo Infinite’s multiplayer has been live as part of its early access ‘beta’ for a few days now. Launched early to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Xbox, the multiplayer component has been lauded for its classic arena shooter action and polished gameplay experience.

Alas, it’s not absolutely perfect and while I may be nitpicking a little bit here, after 15-20 hours played in the multiplayer section thus far, there are a number of areas where there’s ample room for improvements in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer, so let’s talk about ‘em.

The Best CoD Vanguard Maps, All 16 Ranked from Worst to Best

2 years 6 months ago

If you’re jumping into this year’s Call of Duty: Vanguard, then chances are you’re starting to get to grips with Sledgehammer Games’ multiplayer maps. While many of them are terrific, there are quite a few duds. Fortunately, thanks to the game’s silky smooth gameplay, you can still have a blast, even on the maps that are slightly below standard. Still, it’s handy knowing which ones are the lemons, right?

It’s worth noting that this list will focus on the launch content of Call of Duty: Vanguard, as rest assured that the 16 multiplayer maps included at release will be expanded on further with future updates. Additionally, with the title’s new Combat Pacing system, it’s worth mentioning that your experience with each map may vary slightly, as increasing and decreasing the amount of players does change the dynamic of each map quite significantly.

With all that in mind, then, we thought that now would be a good time to rank all 16 of the multiplayer maps in Call of Duty: Vanguard. So, without further ado, let’s get into it, shall we?

New Halo Infinite Battle Pass Challenges Coming Soon to Fix Progression Woes

2 years 6 months ago

While Halo Infinite’s multiplayer gameplay is without question among the series’ best, the mechanics that determine how players advance each tier of its seasonal battle pass are a bit underwhelming. Currently, only the daily and weekly challenges are tied to progression, meaning that there’s nothing gained for actually playing rounds of multiplayer or one’s performance in a game, which ultimately makes for extremely slow going when it comes to ticking off each tier and earning rewards. Thankfully, developer 343 Industries has heard the complaints and has vowed to make some much-needed changes.

Over on Twitter earlier today, community manager John Junyszek explained that the developer will continue tweaking how progression is earned for the battle pass over the coming weeks and months, starting with an update that adds a ‘Play 1 Game’ quest that should speed things up a bit.

Which Cowboy Bebop Character Are You? Take the Quiz to Find Out

2 years 6 months ago

Netflix‘s live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop is almost upon us, which means that now is a good time to start revisiting the original anime series, and maybe even taking a quiz or two to see which character you’re most aligned with.

The main cast of the series is iconic and memorable, with every character bringing something new to the table. Spike’s aloof nature meshes well with Jet’s stoic outlook, and it’s always fun to see him clash with the chaotic Faye and unpredictable Ed. If you’ve ever wondered which character you’re most similar to, we’ve prepared a short personality quiz to help you figure that out.

By answering the following questions, you’ll be able to find out which character you’re aligned with and before you ask, no, Ein the Welsh Corgi isn’t a possible result. Ein’s too good for us.

2 years 6 months ago

In addition to what Microsoft itself shared, third-party developers had new info to share about upcoming add-ons, while new scenery for Microsoft flight simulator was released.

First of all, we hear from MilViz and Parallel 42. The latter will use the basic work based by the former in FSX to bring the classic Cessna T-50 Bobcat to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Parallel 42 did mention that the process of converting the aircraft won’t be quick, so we’ll have to wait.

Many have been waiting for acclaimed developer A2A Simulations to debut in Microsoft Flight Simulator, and finally, it appears to be happening, as mentioned by a post on their official forums by CEO Scott Gentile announcing the development of a Piper Comanche 250  which will use the studio’s advanced AccuSim technology.

“I just wanted to say that as of yesterday, thanks to our brilliant Michal Krawczyk and Mark Smith, we appear to be out of the woods with Accu-Sim and MSFS2020. It goes to show that there is almost nothing you can’t do if you put your mind to it and don’t give up.

Monster Hunter Rise Is Getting a Sonic the Hedgehog Collaboration Event with Goofy-Looking Costumes

Monster Hunter Rise is easily one of the best games in the series so far, and Capcom certainly isn’t slowing down on the free content updates for the game. Of course, you’ll also be able to unlock Sonic-themed costumes to spice up the look of your Kamura Hunter as well. And yes, they look extremely goofy and silly.

Your Palico will also be able to get some Sonic-themed layered armor, and you can also collect new trinkets to decorate your room with.

Free Update to Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit Adds Split-Screen Multiplayer

2 years 6 months ago

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, the racing game using a real-world kart and released last year, is getting a free update that adds a feature that you might have thought was already in the game. The update will allow players to connect two karts for split-screen multiplayer functionality.

By connecting a Luigi kart to your Mario Home Circuit set (or a Mario kart to your Luigi Home Circuit set), you will be able to race competitively with a friend or family member in the same room using a single Nintendo Switch system.

Previously, you needed a Switch system for each player to access multiplayer; split-screen on one console was not an option.

If you only have a single kart (as most people probably do, as the sets only come with one) you can still enjoy a new multiplayer mode. Two to four players can team up in the co-op mode called Relay Race.

Each player will have their own Joy-Con, and the game will automatically swap between them as Mario or Luigi completes a lap. Other players will be able to assist using items.

Additionally, the free update to Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit adds new tracks to enjoy. The Luigi Cup has been added and includes three tracks: Windmill Meadows, Music Broadway, and King Boo’s Courtyard.

If you manage to finish within third place in the Luigi Cup, you can unlock the new Poltergust G-00 kart and a Spooky Horn to use in the game.

This free update is available to download and play right now. You can watch the update trailer below.

If you’re not familiar with Mario Kart: Home Circuit, you can read our official review right here, where we break down what the game is all about and if it’s worth buying.

Yakuza 8 Developer Shares More Details; Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Has More Games in Development

2 years 6 months ago

Today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu included an interview with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama, who talked about the future of the Yakuza series and more.

Yokoyama-san, who confirmed that the next chapter of the story is going to be a numbered title but did mention that “Yakuza 8” is tentative, shared a few interesting details.

The story will still follow Ichiban Kasuga (who will still be the main hero), but it’ll happen a number of years after the story of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. It’ll still be set in a similar timeframe as the game’s release, as it’s tradition for the series. For reference, Yakuza: Like a Dragon was set in 2019.

Yokoyama-san also mentions that Yakuza: Like a Dragon gave the studio a lot of confidence, and it felt natural to announce the new organization of the team after that. He was very happy to see that Ichiban Kasuga has been welcomed as the new hero both in Japan and in the west.

Having managed to overcome the large hurdle of changing the protagonist contributed to the solidity of the studio as an organization.

At the moment the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is working hard on Yakuza 8, but they also want to continue taking care of the Judgment series. There are many Judgment fans who are looking forward to a sequel, so Yokoyama-san has high hopes for it.

On top of that, besides Yakuza and Judgment, the studio is also working on other games that haven’t been announced yet.

Released back in 2014, Alien: Isolation was well received by the majority of gaming press and has gone on to become a well-liked release in the Alien extended universe.

Saints Row Pushed Back Until August 2022 Due to COVID

2 years 6 months ago

Earlier today, Volition Chief Creative Officer Jim Boone released a statement updating fans on the progress of the company’s upcoming reboot of the Saints Row franchise. In the press release, he revealed that they would be pushing the release date back from Feb. 25, 2022, to Aug. 23, 2022.

Boone went into detail stating that the pandemic has significantly affected the development of Saints Row and that while they wanted to release it on the original date, it wouldn’t be fair to fans or employees to do so under the current conditions. You can read the full statement for yourself below:

Saints Row will no longer release on the originally announced date of 25th February 2022, instead it will launch worldwide on 23rd August 2022.

Our priority is to create the best Saints Row game yet and, if we released on the original date, it wouldn’t be up to the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve. The team just need more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some fine tuning and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish.

In all honesty, we underestimated the impact COVID would have on our schedule, although everyone adapted very quickly to the working from home arrangement and continued to be incredibly productive.

However, due to the size and scope of our new Saints Row, it’s become apparent that to create the best game possible, we need to give our team longer to perfect their craft.

As mentioned when we announced Saints Row in August, this will be the biggest and best Saints Row game ever and, in order to achieve our goal, we’ve settled upon a generous, yet essential amount of time to realise our ambitions.

Rest assured, there will not be any changes to the story or the characters or anything that we’ve lovingly imagined over the last few years and already shared with you.

Netflix’s Don’t Look Up Gets Hilarious New Trailer Featuring Ariana Grande & Timothée Chalamet

2 years 6 months ago

Written and directed by Adam McKay (Talladega Nights, The Big Short), Don’t Look Up is a new black comedy movie about two low-level astronomers who discover that a huge meteor is barreling its way to Earth and could destroy the entire planet as we know it. Even as they try to warn the world about their impending doom, however, no one takes them seriously, leading to all sorts of comedic hijinks.

You can check out the new trailer for yourself down below:

The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as the two astronomers, along with plenty of other big names like comedy star Jonah Hill and Meryl Streep. The trailer also gives us a glimpse at pop star Ariana Grande and Timothée Chalamet (who most recently starred in Dune), as side characters who seem to mostly just be there to poke more fun at the astronomers.

Don’t Look Up is set to premiere in theaters on Dec. 10, and will stream on Netflix on Dec. 24.

New Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Dives Deeper into the Multiverse & Brings Back Familiar Faces

2 years 6 months ago

Spider-Man: No Way Home is probably the most hotly anticipated movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now, and we’re inching ever closer to its release. Marvel has just dropped a new official trailer for the movie, giving us an extended look at Peter Parker’s new adventure and the new (or old) villains he’ll be facing this time around.

You can check out the trailer for yourself down below:

As we’ve already seen, Doctor Strange will be heavily involved in the story as he’s responsible for bringing in the villains from every universe into this one with his bungled up spell. We got the Doc Ock tease in the previous trailer already, but this one gives a closer look at his conflict with Peter and some great interactions between him and the main cast.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to premiere in theaters on Dec. 17.

Pokemon GO Is Teasing Some Sort of Collaboration with Ed Sheeran

2 years 6 months ago

We’ve seen Pokemon GO collaborations before with other brands to increase spawn rates in various locations, but this is certainly a new one. Both the official Pokemon GO and Ed Sheeran HQ Twitter accounts are teasing some sort of collaboration over on the social media platform, and it’s definitely left fans scratching their heads and wondering what it could possibly be.

Maybe we’ll finally be able to catch Ed Sheeran himself in a Poke Ball? Or maybe we’ll be getting some Ed Sheeran-themed candy to throw at Pokemon to make them more agreeable? Or maybe Jigglypuffs will start singing Photograph or The Shape of You whenever we encounter them in the wild? The possibilities are endless!

Either way, we don’t have any concrete details about this collaboration event yet, including when it’s supposed to start, but we’ll keep you updated as more details come our way.

Pokemon GO is now available on mobile devices.

Netflix Tweets Tiger King Recap Video in Time for Season 2 Premiere

2 years 6 months ago

With Tiger King Season 2 coming tonight at midnight (timezone dependant), Netflix have gone ahead and tweeted a short two-minute video covering “everything we learned in Season 1.”

If you have maybe not seen the first season covering the exploits of Joe Exotic but want to watch season 2, this video should get you up to speed.

The first season of Tiger King had a massive presence on social media when it launched last year while everyone was indoors.

Netflix describes the show as:

A zoo owner spirals out of control amid a cast of eccentric characters in this true murder-for-hire story from the underworld of big cat breeding.

Reading that now, if you haven’t watched Tiger King, does absolutely sound like just a big jumble of unconnected words. That is exactly why this tweet exists.

Microsoft Flight Simulator GOTY Edition – Here’s Your First Look at The Free F/A-18 Super Hornet in Action

2 years 6 months ago

The Microsoft Flight Simulator Game of the Year Edition that will release in a couple of days includes a brand new military jet at no additional cost.

If you want to read more about the F/A-18 Super Hornet, you can find more details in our review of the GOTY Edition and Reno Air Races expansion (alongside an extensive interview with Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann), but here you can see it fly.

It comes with relevant innovations under the hood that previously were not supported, like afterburners and collimated HUD (which will also work in the Boeing 787 after the update). While this is far from a “study level” aircraft, third-party developers will be able to use its features to improve their own add-ons, which makes the Hornet an important milestone for the sim.

You can check a flight below, with a bonus look at the scenery for Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (KNKX), which is also included in the GOTY update at no additional cost. And yes, I did buzz the tower. Someone will have to get their uniform dry cleaned.

Nintendo, Please Make This Fan-Made Metroid Dread Manual a Reality

2 years 6 months ago

If you miss the good old days of buying video games in person at Midnight on launch day and flipping through its freshly printed manual to find out all of the fun that is in store for you when you boot it up, then you’re going to love this Metroid Dread cover that one Redditor has created.

As you can see in the post to the Metroid Dread subreddit below, user RowanFN1 has created a gorgeous customized printout of Nintendo’s latest hit video game. The packet features around 20 pages, including a table of contents, characters, controls, maps, upgrades, and so much more.

In the comment section of the post, RowanFN1 revealed they got the idea to create the manual while looking through older ones from their collections. Thumbing through those old manuals helped set the style and format for what turned out to be an amazing pamphlet.

Genshin Impact Characters Compete in the Squid Game Dalgona Challenge

2 years 6 months ago

Genshin Impact and Squid Game are two of the hottest properties throughout the entertainment industry in the world recently, as gamers and Netflix viewers can help but get enough of either product. That is why it is so funny to see one user going out of their way to combine these two works of art in a way no one could have expected.

As you can see in the post below to the Genshin Impact subreddit, a user by the name of Genshashin created a video detailing what it would look like if the roster of characters from the beloved miHoYo RPG tried their hand at competing in the Squid Game. This particular challenge sees them try and complete the second event, known as the Dalgona Challenge.

The video in question sees each character use their special abilities to try and cut the shape out of the cookie without cracking it. The end result is a hilarious mix of success and failure, with only a few of the Genshin Impact characters surviving.

Valorant Magepunk 2.0 Revealed as New Skin Bundle With Patch 3.10

2 years 6 months ago

Another patch week for Valorant marks the arrival of not only a new update for the game but a weapon skin bundle, too, and a 2.0 version of a very popular aesthetic nonetheless — Magepunk. The Magepunk 2.0 features a range of new steampunk-inspired skins that are honestly some of the prettiest and most impressive seen in Valorant so far.

Unfortunately, as you will have noticed in the picture above, the new bundle features a rather strange selection of weapons. There’s no Vandal and no Phantom… boo! Quite why Riot Games has opted to skip over two of the most popular weapons is anybody’s guess, but it’s a bit of a shame as the Magepunk skinline is so pretty.

Anyway, Magepunk 2.0 drops tomorrow and should cost 7,100VP, so it’s very much a premium bundle. For a more detailed overview of the bundle and a showcase of the various animations and finishers, you can check out Hitscan’s YouTube video below.

If you haven’t yet checked out the Valorant Patch 3.10 notes then you can do so here. The update brings Chamber to the game, as well as a whole bunch of pretty major changes to the competitive queue system.

Activision-Blizzard Employees Launch Walkout in Response to WSJ Report That CEO Bobby Kotick Knew of Sexual Misconduct

2 years 6 months ago

Earlier today the Wall Street Journal published a report that detailed how much Bobby Kotick knew of the sexual misconduct and harassment that took place at Activision-Blizzard over the years. The report claims that not only did Kotick know of some of the incidences, but he also intervened on at least one occasion to keep an employee that was accused of sexual harassment and recommended to be fired after an internal investigation, and reportedly told another employee that he would have her killed.

In response to the bombshell WSJ report, Activision-Blizzard employees are staging a walkout and, according to Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, are demanding that Kotick be replaced.

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story Has Just Stealth-Launched on PS4, Xbox One, Switch & PC

2 years 6 months ago

Surprise! Ruined King: A League of Legends Story has just been stealth-released on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. That’s right, coinciding with the launch of Riot Games‘ other debut title, Hextech Mayhem, the publisher has treated fans to a nice lil’ bonus in the form of a fresh-out-the-oven turn-based, single-player RPG experience.

Feel free to check out the game’s launch trailer down below:

As you can see in the footage above, Ruined King is an eye-catchingly gorgeous, hand-drawn RPG that’s reminiscent of Battle Chasers: Nightwar and Transistor. Interestingly, the similarity to Battle Chasers: Nightwar is pertinent as Ruined King actually comes from the same developer, Airship Syndicate.

The Game Awards 2021 GOTY Nominations & 29 More Categories Revealed

2 years 6 months ago

Earlier today on Twitch and YouTube, host and producer Geoff Keighley revealed the nominations for The Game Awards 2021 Game of the Year. The nominations for the other categories were also announced during this stream for categories like Best Ongoing Game, Best Art Direction, Best Narrative, and more.

This year marks the 8th anniversary of The Game Awards and it’s the first time since 2019 that the show will take place live in the Microsoft Theater. Last year the show was a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, there was little reminiscing as Keighley wasted no time getting into the nominations. You can see the full list of The Game Awards 2021 categories and nominees down below:
