Survival Crafting Game Nightingale Revealed at The Game Awards

2 years 5 months ago

Inflexion Games released the reveal trailer for their new game, Nightingale, earlier today during The Game Awards. This title will launch as a PC exclusive. No details were released about which storefronts it’ll be available on or when the game will launch.

The trailer for Nightingale began with spooky monsters slowly approaching a woman wearing a long red dress and holding a lantern. The monsters let out terrifying screeches that showed off their sharp teeth. This character was able to escape once an even larger monster started chasing this woman.

It quickly becomes apparent once the narration begins that the character we saw at the beginning of the trailer along with a handful of others were somehow teleported to this fantastical world of Fae.

It looks like there will be portals scattered throughout the different worlds that will let you teleport between multiple different realms like forests, swamps, and deserts.

But most important, Nightingale will feature camp building. These makeshift towns that you put up across the realms will serve as homes to the survivors you find along the way that were also teleported to this mysterious land. Nightingale appears to also feature a wide array of monsters as well as melee weapons and guns to take them out.

If you want to learn more about the game and sign up for updates about development, then you can head on over to the official website. And you can find the reveal trailer for Nightingale down below.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Trailer Crawls Out of the Game Awards

2 years 5 months ago

While it currently lacks a release date, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has unveiled a new trailer at The Game Awards.

The trailer shows poor Gollum as a hopes to silently kill one enemy, but knocks off their helmet and makes way more noise than he ever wanted.

You can see the trailer here and below:

The Steam page gives the following information:

Athletic and agile, sneaky and cunning. Driven by the desire to once again hold in his hands what he lost, Gollum is one of the most fascinating characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings.

He has seen things that others can not imagine, he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Torn by his split personality, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol.

While being vital to the story by J.R.R. Tolkien, many parts of Gollum’s quest have not been told in detail yet. In The Lord of the Rings™: Gollum™ you get to experience this story. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood.

Gravity Rush Director’s New Horror Game Revealed: Slitterhead

2 years 5 months ago

During the 2021 edition of The Game Awards, Bokeh Game Studio finally revealed its brand new game Slitterhead.

While there still isn’t much information about the game, the theme is certainly quite clear to see in the trailer. We also get the confirmation that Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill fame will take care of composing the soundtrack.

Incidentally, the trailer can’t be embedded, so you’ll have to click here to watch it.

In case you’re not familiar with Bokeh Game Studio, it was founded by Gravity Rush series director Keiichiro Toyama, who is also known for his work on the Siren series and Silent Hill, which is definitely a rather relevant horror pedigree.

Following his departure from Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio, Toyama-san launched Bokeh together with a number of other former Sony developers and then revealed he was working on a new horror game featuring fast-paced action. Now we finally get to take the first look.

Recently, we also heard that Tatsuya Yoshikawa of Breath of Fire fame will work on the character design.

Babylon’s Fall Will Release Early March; Gets New Trailer Showing Off Intense Co-op Action RPG Gameplay

2 years 5 months ago

Babylon’s Fall, the upcoming online co-op action RPG from Platinum Games and Square Enix received a new trailer for The Game Awards 2021 and it shows off quite a bit of the type of gameplay that players will expect. Then again, it’s Platinum Games so players probably already have a decent idea of what to expect but I digress.

In addition, Square Enix confirmed that Babylon’s Fall will release on Mar. 3 for PS5 & Steam with early access starting on Feb. 28 for those that pre-order the game ahead of time.

Here’s a statement sent out alongside the trailer today that gives a little more context to the trailer which you can check out below:

“In BABYLON’S FALL players become a group of warriors known as the sentinels, bonded with special equipment called Gideon Coffins, and throw themselves into an odyssey to overcome the titanic Tower of Babylon, within which sleeps a great legacy. In addition to weapons wielded in both hands, characters can use the power of their Gideon Coffin to equip two more, allowing for combinations of up to four weapons at once. The capabilities of different equipment will also bring endless variation to the strategy that can be employed. The game’s visuals are achieved using a newly developed “brushwork style” to create a unique fantasy setting with a medieval oil painting aesthetic.”

Babylon’s Fall does look pretty awesome in this trailer that shows off the gameplay in a cinematic way. We get a look at the various combat styles, formidable foes, dramatic cutscenes, and even a glimpse at what looks like treasure/loot. It will be really interesting to see how this multi-weapon combat plays out in reality and alongside other players doing the same. Babylon’s Fall can be played solo as well if you prefer.

New Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Trailer Debuts at The Game Awards

2 years 5 months ago

Today during The Game Awards Pre-Show livestream, a brand-new teaser trailer for the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion showed off new gameplay and other new footage.

The beginning of the trailer showed a short cinematic with a Zinogre-looking monster attacking a group of hunters. It then cut to the logo screen and then quickly over to another cinematic.

This cinematic featured some of the same hunters from the last clip on a ship heading back to the port of what they called Outpost Elgado. But that was all that was seen in this teaser trailer for Sunbreak.

This trailer shown off at The Game Awards was just barely shorter than the original reveal trailer which came out just over two months ago. You can find that trailer right here.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak launches on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam starting Summer of 2022. As this is an expansion for the full game, you’ll need that full version of the game to play Sunbreak.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Gets Surprise Announced for PS4, PC, and Switch

2 years 5 months ago

It might not be the Persona 4 Golden or Persona 5 Switch port fans might have been hoping for, but hey, it’s something. During the Game Awards 2021 pre-show, Atlus and Sega had a surprise announcement for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and it’s set to be released for PC and the Nintendo Switch.

You can check out the announcement trailer down below:

The game was originally released for PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012, and it’s a 2D fighting game that sees the return of the Inaba Investigation Team as they dive back into the Shadow World to look into some strange happenings. We also see the return of some popular Persona 3 characters including Mitsuru, Yukari, Junpei, and Akihiko.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax features pretty robust fighting game mechanics, which shouldn’t be all that surprising considering it was developed by Arc System Works, and it also comes with a rather compelling narrative with a couple of new characters.

The game will be coming to PS4, Switch, and PC on March 17.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Multiplayer Horror Game Announced

We know it’s based on “true events” and that it will be a multiplayer horror experience. No actual gameplay has been shown yet.

Sumo and Gun could go a lot of different directions with this game. It could be some kind of cooperative horror game in the vein of Resident Evil or maybe it will attempt to go up against Dead by Daylight. Your guess is as good as ours right now.

Hisuian Voltorb Revealed for Pokemon Legends: Arceus

2 years 5 months ago

After a brief tease on Twitter last night involving Ball Guy, the Pokemon Company has officially revealed a new Hisuian form for the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus game. Hisuian Voltorb will be a dual-type Electric/Grass Pokemon.

The design of Hisuian Voltorb looks similar to the Poke Balls of the Hisui region, which differ slightly in appearance from the Poke Balls we’ve used throughout the series. It has a wood grain makeup on the surface of its body and a hole on the top of its head.

According to the official Pokemon Legends: Arceus website, “there seem to be countless seeds packed inside Hisuian Voltorb. Occasionally, it spouts these seeds out of the hole in its head. However, no one knows exactly what it’s like inside the Pokémon’s body because inside the hole, it’s pitch-dark.”

This new Voltorb form is just one of several regional variants that have been introduced in this ancient Sinnoh region. Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark were revealed in October, for example. You can read all about the different Hisuian regional variants, including this new version of Voltorb, on the official website right here.

Currently, there has been no reveal of a Hisuian Electrode, Voltorb’s evolved form, but chances are that this Pokemon will get its own Electric/Grass regional variation as well.

Microsoft Flight Simulator PMDG Boeing 737 Gets New Details, Screenshots, & a Clarification For The “Drama Llamas”

2 years 5 months ago

Today popular third-party developer PMDG provided new details about its upcoming 737, on top of a few screenshots, and a clarification.

The screenshots are the same featuring the cockpit that were showcased in yesterday’s livestream, but today we get to see a clean version, while CEO Robert Randazzo provided an extensive description of what we’re seeing and how it has been achieved.

“So let’s start out with a sample view of the overhead panel. Throughout the cockpit, existing PMDG customers will note a tremendous improvement in the overall model quality and level of detail. The tremendous capabilities of the lighting model in MSFS really allow us to improve the total visual quality of the simulation in a way that simply couldn’t be supported on previous platforms.

If you look at the engine and APU generator lights for example, and the associated bus indicator lights, you can almost feel the surface scaling of the indicators through which the illuminated text will show when the indicator is powered. The reflectivity and light reflection off the chrome switches just “looks right” in ways we have struggled to achieve prior to bringing the 737 to the MSFS platform.

Kickstarter Pivots to Blockchain Crowdfunding With New Celo Project

2 years 5 months ago

If you are familiar with Kickstarter, then the crowdfunding platform you know and might have used is going to see some big changes. The company has shared that it will be supporting the development of “an open source protocol that will essentially create a decentralized version of Kickstarter’s core functionality.” This protocol will be the start of a Kickstarter blockchain, available to anyone to build on or use.

This will be driven by an independent organization, with funding provided by Kickstarter. A board will be appointed, and Kickstarter will also be the first to utilize the protocol. This protocol will be built on Celo, an open-source and carbon-negative blockchain, which is also in line with how the company wants to move things forward.

In addition, there will also be the establishment of an independent governance lab that will oversee the development of the protocol governance. Research will be expected to be public, with learnings shared, while openly engaging with challenging problems and critically important goals of good governance. This lab will be led by Camille Canon, co-founder and most recently executive director of Purpose Foundation (US), an organization focused on developing and scaling alternative ownership and governance models.

The current plan is for Kickstarter to migrate over to the new blockchain protocol in 2022, and what that entails for the business side of things like crowdfunding remains to be seen. The statement did reiterate that the experience will “stay the same” but a lot of things can change between now and the eventual migration.

Spider-Man Drums It Up In This Amazing Parody of Whiplash (Thwiplash)

2 years 5 months ago

With Spider-Man: Now Way Home Just around the corner, fans simply can’t get enough of their favorite neighborhood web-slinger. A lot of that has to do with the interactions that the movie will showcase, as there are lots of returning, infamous names that have appeared throughout the franchise set to return.

Arguably one of the most important returning figures is that of J. K. Simmons, who is reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson, the editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle with an extreme distaste for Spider-Man. Since his return in the last film’s post-credit scene, fans have been dying to see more of the character.

In fact, to help prepare fans for J.K Simmons’ full return to the Spider-Man franchise, one digital creator even went as far as to create a hilarious parody that just works perfectly. As you can see below, Corridor Digital creator Natalie Roman replaced Miles Teller in Whiplash with Tobey Mcguire’s Spider-Man.

Dragonite is Coming to Pokemon Unite in a Festive Winter Update

2 years 5 months ago

Earlier today on Twitter and YouTube, the official Pokemon Unite account released a new video detailing multiple winter-themed Holowear, news pieces of clothing, and a snowy four-on-four mode. This is just the second themed event to come to the mobile game of the year nominated Pokemon Unite since the game launched back in mid-July earlier this year.

Starting off with the Holowear, a handful of Pokemon will be receiving some brand-new clothes that celebrate the winter season. Pikachu gets an adorable little Santa costume that features the electric mouse flying in a sleigh for his return to base animation. Even his unite move gets a little extra visual upgrade where presents start flying out of any opponent hit by the attack. And slamming on the opponent’s goal makes a ring of presents shoot out of there.

Just like Pikachu, five other Pokemon will be getting Santa hat holowear as a part of the Unite Winter event. Garchomp, Mamoswine, Dragonite, Gardevoir, and Blastoise will all be joining in on the fun. However, these skins don’t appear to have any special visual changes to attacks, slams, or returning to base.

This time around the focus is on the Slaanesh chaos faction, showing many of its units on the field, from the most powerful to rank and file.

You can check it out below, alongside a breakdown of the faction from the press release.

Slaanesh Legendary Lord – N’Kari

N’Kari, the Arch-Temptor, scours the immortal and mortal realms to experience the ultimate sensation and taste ecstasy in its purest form.

On the battlefield, he is an extremely fast and vicious Exalted Daemon that excels at hunting isolated enemy characters and units. His unique passive ability, Harvester of Souls, heals him whenever an enemy unit has been fully killed nearby, whilst his Willing Prey ability significantly reduces enemy melee defence and attack, leaving them vulnerable to a quick and agonising death.

The Valorant Champions Skin Bundle Has Raised $7.5 Million For 10 Esports Teams

2 years 5 months ago

The Champions skin bundle released as part of this month’s festivities for the game’s biggest esports tournament of all time was cool for more reasons than just its design.

Part of the appeal of purchasing the bundle was the promise that 50% of the proceeds would be evenly distributed amongst the 10 teams competing. It was a nice way for fans to support their teams, and it meant extra money for players from smaller regions and minor esports orgs that don’t typically support notable salaries.

Today, Riot Games has announced that a whopping $7.5 million has been raised for the 10 qualified Champions teams, meaning that each should receive around $750,000. Given the prize for the tournament’s winning team is $350,000, this is no insignificant amount of money and it should help ensure esports organizations continue their interest in Valorant as an esport. It’s a win for Riot Games, the fans, players, and esports organizations alike.
