Cyberpunk 2077 1.05 Hotfix Released for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

3 years 4 months ago
Update (12/19/20) - CD Projekt Red has announced that Hotfix 1.05 for Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for PC as well. Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] CD Projekt Red has released Hotfix 1.05 for Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and it looks to address issues in quests, visuals, stability, and much more. The update for the PC version will "follow soon." As detailed on Cyberpunk.net, many of the changes listed should help with problems experienced in quests and some of the fixes ensure "Jackie will no longer disappear in The Pickup or The Heist" and fix "an issue preventing players from landing the helicopter in Love like Fire." What will hopefully most welcome, especially to those playing on base Xbox One and PS4 units, are the "multiple stability improvements, including crash fixes." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/18/sony-pulls-cyberpunk-2077-from-ps-store-will-offer-refunds"] Visual improvements have also been added, and now NPCs in Suspected Organized Crime Activity: Just Say No and Gig: Hot Merchandise should no longer T-pose and V should appear "more modest in the inventory preview after the half year montage ;)." It will be curious to see how much it improves the experience on those consoles, and if it will prevent players from requesting a refund.

Opinion: Cyberpunk Deserved Better

3 years 4 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077’s launch has been nothing short of disastrous. Between the initial slapdash review process, the discovery of considerable performance issues on older hardware, the report that it triggered a seizure in at least one reviewer, then the news that PS4/XB1 players can get refunds but actually they couldn’t, all the way up to Sony’s announcement that it was removing Cyberpunk from its digital storefront entirely… to say “it’s been a week” for CD Projekt Red feels like an understatement - even for 2020. And it’s a real shame, particularly because underneath all the bad management decisions, poor communication, and overhyped marketing, there’s a really good game.

How Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Was Made From Home

3 years 4 months ago
In March 2020, a national state of emergency was declared in the United States of America. With over 2,000 cases of the novel coronavirus confirmed, state quarantine measures began to be implemented. People were sent home from their jobs and told to work remotely for their own safety. For Raven Software, co-developer of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, suddenly the future of the next game in the biggest FPS series of all time was in jeopardy. But against the odds, Raven ensured that the project didn’t slip into disaster. Detailed plans turned into smart solutions, and work on Black Ops Cold War continued, despite the whole team being miles apart. And on November 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War released, exactly on schedule. This is the inside story of how a triple-A video game was made from home during a pandemic. CallOfDuty_inline2Black Ops Cold War is the first Call of Duty game that Raven Software has been a lead developer on; the company has traditionally been a support studio for the series. Naturally, this means the 1980s-set single player campaign is a massive deal for the team working on it, and COVID-19 threatened their first time in the spotlight. Before quarantine measures were enforced, the studio had been working on the game for months; it had started production on the majority of the main missions, and had begun to lay the creative foundations for the side missions. Development had been going well, and the game was on-course for the classic Call of Duty November release window.

Cyberpunk 2077: CDPR Says It Will Refund Copies if Players Can't Get Them From Stores

3 years 5 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red says it intends to refund players out of the company’s own pocket if they can’t get refunds from other stores.

EpivKUPXEAMBRMP

In a tweet posted Friday morning, CD Projekt Red updated its initial post about Cyberpunk 2077 refunds, stating that their “intention is for every owner of a physical copy, or a digital copy bought at retail, who has valid proof of purchase (and sends us an email at helpmerefund@cdprojektred.com within the time window) to receive a refund. We will do this out of our own pocket if necessary.”

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/18/cyberpunk-a-red-flag-for-cross-gen-games-next-gen-console-watch"]

CD Projekt Red also stated it is asking players who can’t get a refund from the store they bought it from to email CDPR by December 21.

CDPR said that the company will provide next steps for people requesting refunds after the request submission window closes. CDPR reiterated that digital versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will still need to be refunded through their respective platforms.

If you’re unsatisfied with your copy of Cyberpunk 2077, here’s how to request a refund on PS4 and Xbox. Xbox recently expanded its refund policy to allow for Cyberpunk 2077 returns.

Xbox Expanding Refund Policy to Allow for Cyberpunk 2077 Returns

3 years 5 months ago
Xbox has expanded its refund policy for Cyberpunk 2077 to ensure that anyone who purchased CD Projekt Red's latest game digitally from the Microsoft Store can be fully reimbursed. Those interested can request a refund for Cyberpunk 2077 through Microsoft's support page, and this move comes after Sony's decision to not only offer refunds for all Cyberpunk 2077 players, but also remove it from the PS Store indefinitely. Unlike Sony, Microsoft does not appear to be removing the game from its online store. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/18/sony-pulls-cyberpunk-2077-from-ps-store-will-offer-refunds"] "To ensure that every player can get the experience they expect on Xbox, we will be expanding our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice," Xbox Support wrote on Twitter.

Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends Adds Unlockable God of War, Bloodborne, and Other PlayStation Costumes

3 years 5 months ago
Sucker Punch Productions has updated Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, adding a set of unlockable PlayStation costumes based on platform exclusives God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Shadow of the Colossus, and Bloodborne. The news was revealed in a tweet from the official Ghost of Tsushima account, which notes that the special costumes can be unlocked by playing any Story or Survival mission with each class to unlock the corresponding outfit. The outfits will be available until January 15, 2021. You can see what they look like in the gallery below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ghost-of-tsushima-playstation-skins&captions=true"] The Samurai skin is based on Kratos from God of War and is covered in evocative bloody swirls. The hunter class riffs off of Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn, with custom headgear and an embroidered dress. The Hunter skin takes cues from Shadow of the Colossus, with a colossi mask and custom patterned garb. Finally, the Ronin Bloodborne skin is serving big Eileen the Crow vibes with its feathered pauldrons. It's a neat incentive to get players to check out Ghost of Tsushima's co-op mode. We scored Ghost of Tsushima a 9 at launch, calling it an "excellent action game". The game also won the Player's Voice award at The Game Awards 2020. Control Ultimate Edition On PS5 And Series X/S Will Offer 60 FPS Performance Mode And Ray-Tracing

3 years 5 months ago
Remedy Entertainment has announced that Control Ultimate Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S will arrive digitally on February 2, and launch as a physical version on March 2. Revealed via a tweet from the official Control Twitter account, Remedy also noted that the team is currently working on the full trailer for the next-gen version of Control Ultimate Edition, and will offer a 60 FPS Performance Mode and a 30 FPS Graphics Mode with Ray-Tracing. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/18/control-ultimate-edition-next-gen-teaser-trailer"] The teaser above offers a sneak peek at both modes in action, showing off the fluidity of performance mode and the impressive ray-tracing detail of Graphics Mode. The player can flick the setting on in the 'Display' menu and instantly see results, as protagonist Jesse is reflected in the glass panes that were previously flat. It's a nice touch that may well usher some players back to The Oldest House on their next-gen consoles, if they've been missing the spooky atmosphere of the Hiss-infested bureau. Control was our Game of the Year in 2019, and we scored it 8.8 in our launch review, noting its "captivating, oddball world." Control recently came to Xbox Game Pass in December, alongside other games like Doom Eternal and Rage 2, all of which you can check out here. The Mandalorian: The History of the Darksaber Explained

3 years 5 months ago
Warning: this article contains major spoilers for The Mandalorian's story so far, through the Season 2 finale.  [poilib element="accentDivider"] The Mandalorian Season 1 introduced a weapon with a major legacy in the Star Wars universe. The Darksaber returned in the hands of Moff Gideon in the Season 1 finale, with Season 2 subsequently introducing one of the Darksaber's previous owners in the form of Katee Sackhoff's Bo-Katan Kryze. And with the darksaber now in the hands of Mando himself following the Mandalorian Season 2 finale, it's safe to say this blade will continue to play a big part in the series. If you're confused as to why everyone seems so fixated on a black lightsaber, fear not. Here's everything you need to know about the Darksaber and how it ties the series back to the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

What is the Darksaber in The Mandalorian?

The Darksaber is unique among all the lightsabers in the Star Wars universe. It has a flat, katana-like blade rather than the traditional saber shape. It emits a peculiar, low hum. Even its color is unlike any other - deep black with a bright white halo. The Darksaber is one of the most important artifacts in Mandalorian culture. It was created by an ancient warrior named Tarre Vizsla, the first (and as far as we currently know, only) Mandalorian to be inducted into the Jedi Order.

Super Nintendo World Direct Announced for December 18

3 years 5 months ago
Nintendo has announced that a roughly 15-minue Super Nintendo World Direct will take place on December 18 at 3pm PT/6pm ET/11pm GMT that will show more of Universal Studios Japan's newest theme park area. Nintendo also was careful to mention that "no game content will be featured," so it looks to only show more of the much-anticipated theme park area that is set to open to the public on February 4, 2021. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/30/super-nintendo-world-reveal-trailer"] IGN Japan and other members of the press were able to get a sneak peak at Super Nintendo World last month, and got a glimpse of Bowser's Castle and where guests will line up for the Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge ride. The Mario Kart-themed ride will put visitors in the driving seat and includes AR and projection mapping to bring the beloved action of the Mario Kart series to life, all through the help of a wearable Mario's hat that has a built-in AR screen. Super Nintendo World was set to open ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Summer 2020, but it was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

League of Legends MMO In Development

3 years 5 months ago
Riot Games is making an MMORPG, though it was announced in a bit of an unusual way. This upcoming MMO will be the first foray into the genre from the developers behind League of Legends and Valorant. On Twitter, Riot vice president of intellectual property and entertainment Greg Street tweeted that he is hiring for a new project that will develop the League of Legends universe. When asked whether it was an MMO, Street outright confirmed ton Twitter hat it will be. While a major project like League of Legends MMO isn't typically announced on a personal Twitter account, the move makes sense for Riot who has been working furiously in recent years to expand its stable of games beyond League of Legends. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/13/ruined-king-a-league-of-legends-story-reveal-trailer"] In the past two years, Riot has developed and released Legends of Runeterra, a competitive card game based on the League of Legends universe; as well as Valorant, a competitive shooter based on an original IP. Riot also announced Riot Forge, a publishing initiative where Riot will work with outside developers on games and other projects based in the League of Legends universe. One of its first projects is Ruined King, a turn-based LoL RPG coming to consoles and PC in 2021. There's also a fighting game Riot has been quietly working on for years, as well as Arcane, an animated League of Legends animated TV series, as if Riot wasn't busy enough. IGN reached out to Riot for clarification and we were pointed to Street's tweet. But that's another League of Legends project announced, then.

Sony Removing Cyberpunk 2077 from PS Store

3 years 5 months ago
Update 2: CD Projekt Red has vowed to "bring Cyberpunk 2077 back to PlayStation Store as soon as possible" in a statement to players. On Twitter, the company released a new public-facing statement, reiterating that the PlayStation version (both physical and digital) will continue to receive updates even while not available for digital sale. No timeline was given for when the game may return to the store.. The statement also perhaps implies that the decision to remove the game was made by both Sony and CD Projekt Red. That's potentially to allow for refunds to be granted without breaching Sony's existing policies (which had caused trouble for many seeking to return their digital copies this week). IGN contacted Sony and CD Projekt for clarification, but both refused to comment. Xbox has not yet responded to a request for comment on its own course of action with regard to the game.

Monster Train Review

3 years 5 months ago

When my wife first saw me playing Monster Train she thought I’d gotten hooked on Slay The Spire again and she’d have to put up with another stretch of me playing it incessantly. I had good news and bad news for her: the good news is that, despite also being a colorful and cartoony game in which you pick new cards and modifier items after every fight to improve your deck, and then spend energy to use those cards in turn-based battle, Monster Train is a very different take on the deck-building roguelike idea. The bad news (again, for her, not for Monster Train) is that it’s every bit as fantastically deep, dynamic, and replayable, and it’s kept me just as engrossed as Slay The Spire ever did.

The most obvious difference is that instead of having just one character attacking and casting spells, Monster Train puts you in command of many creatures – and they can be summoned onto the first three of your train’s four floors to create an increasingly complex gauntlet for enemies to run through on their way to attack its power source at the top. Why does a train have four floors? That’s… unclear, as trains are traditionally laid out horizontally. But Monster Train has some very odd lore around it about a quest to restart the fires of Hell that provides some crazy, colorful backdrops for its battles and successfully handwaves away any sort of questions – such as “Why is Hell good and Heaven bad now?” – as not important anyway.

Diablo Immortal Has Launched Its Technical Alpha… but Only in Australia

3 years 5 months ago
For those of you looking forward to some Diablo action on mobile, the good news is - as of this moment, Diablo Immortal’s technical alpha has launched. The bad news is, it’s largely restricted to Australia. If you don’t happen to be in Australia right now – sorry about that, by the way – fear not, as we can still give you a stack of details on how Diablo Immortal is shaping up. First though, for those of you that can check it out, the technical alpha has four classes available - Barbarian, Wizard, Monk and Demon Hunter, a level cap of 45 (as opposed to the planned 60 for the game’s release) with Paragon points beyond that, and includes seven open world zones and six dungeons. There’s a lot of content, in other words, and Blizzard’s goal is to test the early level experience and mid-game systems, as well as client performance and server stability. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/17/see-8-of-diablo-immortals-class-intros"] That latter point is particularly important given that Diablo Immortal is a massively multiplayer action RPG, in which tens of thousands of players can be on a single server. This change manifests itself in communal areas like Westmarch, where players can show off their gear, but for the most part the team is very much aiming for Diablo Immortal to feel like classic Diablo – wading through hordes of enemies alongside a friend or three, nabbing loot and upgrading your character. It will also feel familiar from a story perspective. Yes, Deckard Cain puts in an appearance, like some kind of desiccated security blanket, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m referring to the fact that Diablo Immortal takes place between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III. Those of you that pay attention to these things will remember that Archangel Tyrael destroyed the World Stone at the end of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sephiroth DLC Release Date Announced

3 years 5 months ago
During a deep dive into the newest fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sephiroth, director Masahiro Sakurai announced the Sephiroth DLC will be released on December 22. Sakurai also revealed the next wave of Mii Fighter costumes which include Tifa, Aerith, and Barret, as well as a Chocobo hat and Geno from Super Mario RPG. As part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighter Pass, Nintendo releases several skins for Mii Fighters, standard fighters categorized as Gunner, Brawler, and Swordfighter. These Mii Fighter templates can wear different skins based on popular characters. In the past, Nintendo has released Mii Fighter skins for characters like Sans from Undertale and Travis Touchdown from No More Fighters. Now, three Final Fantasy 7 character skins will join the roster. Barret (Gunner outfit), Tifa (Brawler outfit), and Aerith (Swordfight outfit) will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as part of Round 8 of the Mii Fighters skin line. You can check out the skins in action below. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/17/super-smash-bros-ultimate-mii-fighters-round-8-reveal-trailer"] Sakurai also announced two additional Mii Fighter outfits, a Chocobo hat, and Geno (Gunner outfit). Geno is actually from the Super Mario RPG which was developed by Square in partnership with Nintendo for the SNES back in 1996. Geno was a unique character created for the Super Mario RPG and has been a popular request from fans to be added to the Smash Bros. roster. Geno was actually previously released as a Mii skin in Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii U. Sakurai once said he considered Geno to join the Smash Bros. roster in an interview with Nintendo Dream back in 2016, which helped fuel the fan movement to get the character in Super Smash Bros.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Launches Its Yule Season Update

3 years 5 months ago

Sure, Fortnite may have its Winterfest, and Overwatch has its Winter Wonderland, but Vikings? Vikings practically invented the winter solstice, and Ubisoft is showing that off in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s free holiday update, dubbed the “Yule Festival.”

ACV_42_Yule_Feast

Valhalla’s Yule Festival runs from December 17 to January 7, letting players collect some free cosmetics and play around with some new activities. Note: You’ll have to complete one story arc (either Grantebridgescire or Ledecestrescire) to access the Yule Festival.

ACV_44_FSC1_Yule_Archery_Contest

The first thing players will likely notice is the expansion to Ravensthorpe, the settlement that players establish as Eivor early on in the game. The area is much snowier as a result of the winter solstice, and the settlement has been decorated in preparation for festivities.

Side activities include drunk brawls (the best kind), archery challenges, and others. Players who play throughout the activities will receive “Yule tokens” to exchange for cosmetic rewards, like new outfits for Eivor.

Here’s the full list of Yule rewards.

  • Mōdraniht Ceremonial Outfit

  • Mōdraniht Tattoo Set

  • Mōdraniht Ceremonial Seax

  • Mōdraniht Ceremonial Shield

  • Traditional Yule Garland

  • Sacrificial Altar

  • Ritual Tree Ornaments

  • Cozy Fire Pit

Back 4 Blood - Hands-On Preview

3 years 5 months ago

Twelve years ago, a small development team owned by Valve, known as Valve South, dropped a little game called Left 4 Dead — A zombie themed coop first person shooter that pit four players against a zombie horde and forced them to look out for the group as opposed to just looking out for the individual if they hoped to survive.

This helped give birth to a whole new sub-genre of coop survival first person shooters, and while Valve continued the legacy with Left 4 Dead 2, the original developers of Left 4 Dead, now reformed as Turtle Rock Studios, had not returned to the genre that they helped pioneer.

That changes with Back 4 Blood, an appropriately titled four player zombie themed coop survival shooter that goes into closed alpha testing starting today, and if my early impressions are anything to go off of, it’s good to have Turtle Rock back where they belong.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/17/back-4-blood-full-campaign-closed-alpha-gameplay"]

So much of Back 4 Blood is directly inspired by Left 4 Dead that I think it’s actually important to lead off with the areas in which it tries to be different, and nowhere is that more apparent than in its deck building system. In Back 4 Blood, you actually build a deck of cards that you take in with you to each level. These cards are broken up into four categories: Reflex, Discipline, Brawn, and Fortune. Reflex cards typically focus on granting bonuses to speed or stamina; discipline cards are all about efficiency, so they offer buffs that give better accuracy, better healing, more ammo, and so on; Brawn cards buff your health, damage, and resistances; and finally fortune cards focus on giving you a percent chance of something happening, along with other general utility focused boons, like the ability to have unlimited ammo on your secondary weapon, or being able to shoot while sprinting.

Nintendo Says It's 'Focusing' on Existing Switch Models, Rather Than Potential Switch Pro

3 years 5 months ago
Nintendo is focusing on existing Switch models rather than the heavily-rumored Switch Pro, according to Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser. In a new interview with Polygon, Bowser touched on the rumors of a Switch Pro and whether or not the company is looking at a refreshed Switch with more powerful hardware down the line. He said the success of the current models, the Switch and the Switch Lite, allow the company to view life cycles differently and that Nintendo's focus is on the momentum of those models at the moment. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-nintendo-exclusives-of-2020&captions=true"] "It allows us to manage the life cycle differently, I would say," Bowser told Polygon when asked about the success of the Switch and whether or not it gives the company time for a model refresh if needed. "I think that's the easiest way to put it. Right now, with the momentum that we have, our focus will be on the existing form factors." Bowser also spoke to the rumors that Nintendo may be holding back certain yet-to-come titles for a rumored Switch Pro model and according to the Nintendo of America president, the company is currently leaning into what it sees as a "very strong lineup for this holiday." He also said Nintendo will continue to release content on a "regular cadence year-round" and that there's a lot more to come that will be released when it's ready. When pressed further by Polygon about a future hardware refresh, Bowser said Nintendo is changing the trajectory of the console life cycle with the Switch. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/26/nintendo-switch-lite-review"] "However, we also see right now [...] that the momentum on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite in the fourth year is strong," he said.

New Among Us Airship Map Playable on Switch Through Glitch

3 years 5 months ago
A glitch is letting Nintendo Switch Among Us players try the new Airship map early. As we can see in this GameXplain video, there's a trick Nintendo Switch players can use to tour the new map early, even though it isn't necessarily in a playable state. Here's how to do it, step-by-step:
  • Hit 'Local' on the main menu and create your own game
  • Select the 'Airship' map via the laptop
  • Exit the lobby, then hit 'Online' and host a room without choosing a map
  • You can then load into the Airship map once four players join
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/11/among-us-toppat-airship-map-reveal-trailer"] Given that the Airship map is currently scheduled for Early 2021, a lot of the new map is not feature-complete, and you may experience glitches when you're touring it. Even so, it might be worth a look before it gets patched out, so you can learn the unfinished layout and get an advantage on your friends next year. Among Us launched on Nintendo Switch on Monday as part of Nintendo's Indie World presentation. For the full rundown of all the games revealed during the show, check out our handy roundup, which features Spelunky 2, Cyber Shadow, and more. Delisted Horror Game Devotion Added to GOG... Then GOG Decides Not to Release It

3 years 5 months ago
Update 12/17/2020: Devotion developer Red Candle Games has responded to GOG's U-turn on releasing its game. Speaking on Twitter, the studio said: "Though regretful but [sic] we are willing to understand and respect GOG's decision. For the players looking forward to Devotion's re-release, please accept our most sincere apology. This is a difficult predicament to overcome, but we won't stop striving." Currently, there is no planned release for the horror game, which caused controversy among Chinese players for an apparent joke at the expense of Chinese president Xi Jinping. GOG and parent company CD Projekt have not responded to IGN's request for comment since yesterday's decision to announce and then pull the game. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Update: GOG has now said that it will not list Devotion after "receiving many messages from gamers". GOG announced the news in a tweet, and has already pulled the game's new store page. No further explanation has been given at time of writing.
