New Call Of Duty Could Be Reimagined Black Ops In Cold War

3 years 10 months ago

Like usual for the Call of Duty series, this year's game has apparently leaked ahead of its official announcement. While Activision has already confirmed a new Call of Duty is coming this year, it hasn't shared any details whatsoever, and we'd usually know by this point in the year when the next game would be releasing and what it would be called. However, according to a tweet that has since been corroborated by Eurogamer, this year's game will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. So far, Activision hasn't commented on the leaks or acknowledged if any of them are accurate, but they certainly appear convincing.

The Black Ops Cold War name first appeared on Twitter by leaker Okami13, and Eurogamer has since reported it's heard the same news from its sources. This means that much like 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, developer Treyarch is going back to where Call of Duty: Black Ops started--a stark change from the future-based warfare the Black Ops series traded in with its third and fourth installments.

The Cold War setting has already been teased in Call of Duty: Warzone, with reported plans for the battle royale to eventually reveal the game in its entirety. Players have found a Cold War spyplane by glitching through walls. The reveal might have tied into the ongoing mystery behind the many vault doors in Warzone currently.

Xbox Series X: Game Lineup, Release Date, And More For The Next-Gen Console

3 years 10 months ago

Microsoft has been drip-feeding information about its next-gen console, Xbox Series X, ever since it was first revealed at The Game Awards 2019--we've heard details about how Xbox Series X will handle backwards compatibility, for example, as well as what the console's specs will be. Looking a lot like a PC tower, the Xbox Series X is a console powerhouse able to pull off variable-rate shading and ray-tracing, a quick resume function, and a brand-new "smart delivery" feature. Its controller is similar in design to the one for Xbox One, though it's fairly different from PlayStation 5's DualSense. Most recently, we may have gotten a tease of the Xbox Series X boot screen and sound, as part of Microsoft's announcement for a first-look Xbox Series X gameplay event taking place on May 7. We also got confirmation that the console will make use of the same Unreal 5 technology possible on PS5, meaning there should be little issue for the same games to run on both.

Only One Nintendo Switch Game Card Could Hold Every N64 Game Ever Made, Report Shows

3 years 10 months ago

When a new console generation is released, usually the changes are incremental--enough to be impressive, but never truly mind-blowing. That's why sometimes you have to compare a modern console to its retro counterpart to understand how much games have really grown--sometimes literally. The N64 used large game cartridges, but their data could all fit onto only one Nintendo Switch game card, according to a new report.

Redditor CorsairVI decided to run the math on this experiment, as picked up by Go Nintendo.

With the Nintendo 64's signature rounded cartridges holding a maximum of 64MB each, CorsairVI worked out absolute maximum size of the Nintendo 64's international library of 388 titles to be 24.83GB. However many games were much smaller than the cartridge's max limit, meaning the full library would have been even smaller.

Fortnite Season 3 Start Date: Delayed To Next Week

3 years 10 months ago

All good things end... eventually. Season 2 of Fortnite Chapter 2 was originally scheduled to conclude on April 30, but a few weeks prior, developer Epic Games announced an extension. Season 2 was then set to conclude on June 4, and then June 11. In light of the ongoing protests in the US related to the murder of George Floyd, Epic has announced plans to push things back once again. Season 3 will now begin on June 17, and the major event preceding it has also been pushed as a result.

There has been some unexpected extra Season 2 content to keep you busy in the meantime, as well as the Doomsday event that could have major implications for Season 3 itself.

When Does Fortnite Season 3 Start?

Fortnite Season 3 is launching on June 17, immediately after the end of Season 2. Battle Pass challenges are available to complete until that new date. The Device event--better known as the Doomsday event--will take place on June 15.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Has Great New Maps, And One Is A Throwback To MW3

3 years 10 months ago

Developer Infinity Ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will get a large update introducing new content later this week on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This includes the return of an old franchise map, which is available to play right now. Hardhat, which was last seen in 2011's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, has been added to Modern Warfare's 24/7 multiplayer playlist. It is a close-quarters map made for fast-paced skirmishes, but with enough sightlines for long-range fire as well. This should make it particularly challenging and ensure that teams make use of multiple loadouts. Without doing so, they risk leaving themselves open to ambushes or sniper fire.

[Update: The new update is out now, introducing both this and the new Aisle 9 map to the game, alongside other changes to both it and Warzone. You can read about everything new in the full Call of Duty May 18 update patch notes. The recent patch has also made various balance changes, as well as introduced new elements to the battle royale Warzone--including finally opening the vaults.]

3 years 10 months ago

Sony's PS5 event was scheduled for June 4 but has now been delayed to an undetermined future date. Prior to the news of its postponement, there had been tons of excitement and speculation about what the company will reveal about the upcoming next-generation console. While new games being played on PlayStation 5 are confirmed to be part of the showcase whenever it happens, we might also hear more technical details around its internal architecture and possible services. And if luck's on our side, there could even be a release date or price confirmation, which would be helpful for those looking to start setting aside some savings to purchase it this holiday.

After all, there's been a lot of talk about how much the PS5 will cost. As it pertains to Sony's history, it's easy to feel anxious when it comes to pricing a new PlayStation console, as there's potential it will replicate the steep PS3 price point. However, the console's lead architect Mark Cerny has declared that the price "will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set."

As the upcoming event approaches and imaginations continue to run wild about potential price points, the GameSpot staff began to deeply meditate on how much money the PS5 will set back consumer wallets. Fortnite Doomsday Event Start Date Postponed Again

3 years 10 months ago

Epic Games is gearing up for another huge Fortnite event to mark the end of Chapter 2, Season 2. Officially called "The Device," the upcoming finale--popularly referred to as the Doomsday live event--is still mostly a mystery, at least based on what we know officially. The Doomsday event was supposed to have already taken place, but following a delay to the start of Season 3, Epic also pushed back the event. Now, as of June 3, Epic has opted to delay both the event and new season once again. Here's the full rundown on what we know about Doomsday, when it will start, how to watch or participate, and more.

What Is The Doomsday Live Event?

The much-rumored "Doomsday Device" that Fortnite players and leakers have been discussing for the past few weeks is at the core of this event, with some speculating that the large orb-shaped device with pipes running everywhere in Midas's office is The Device. The introduction of the Storm the Agency challenges in the game's latest update might suggest that Team Shadow may soon usurp Team Ghost in the Agency, which could lead to the device being triggered.

When Is The Doomsday Event?

The Doomsday live event takes place on June 15. A specific start time has not been shared; the previous date was set to take place at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET, but this latest delay shifts the event from the weekend to a weekday, so it's unclear if that time will be adjusted. The new season will kick off just two days later, so you won't have to wait too long before getting major changes to battle royale.

All The PS5 Games Confirmed (And Expected) So Far

3 years 10 months ago

It's exciting every time a new console generation comes around, and this time is no different. 2020 marks the release of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and despite the ongoing pandemic disrupting workflow, the two systems are still set for release later this year. That means there will also need to be a lineup of new games, as some of Sony's major upcoming games are still coming to the PS4 and could skip the PS5, at least at launch, and it's unclear if they're getting PS5 upgrades at all. Sony said in May that it plans to announce the launch lineup for PS5 "soon," but this has subsequently been delayed in the wake of ongoing protests. It is unclear when Sony will now unveil its full PS5 launch game lineup.

Sony's PS5 features some exciting new technology, including an SSD that dramatically improves load times, among other elements that promise to improve the fidelity of games. There is also a new DualSense controller that uses haptic feedback to help connect you with games at a deeper level. It's all very exciting, and some of the technology is even beyond what high-end PC systems can do. The technology is being backed up with impressive software, including Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5. This new engine was demonstrated in May 2020 and features new lighting and geometry systems that can make games look more realistic than ever before.

Sony Delays PS5 Reveal, Coming At Unclear Future Date

3 years 10 months ago

Update: Sony has postponed the planned PlayStation 5 event indefinitely. Although it did not cite ongoing Black Lives Matter protests as the reason, it did suggest the delay is to "stand back and allow more important voices to be heard." It follows statements issued by Sony and PlayStation, among those from many other companies, in response to the protests. The original story follows.

Sony has announced plans to host an event focused on PlayStation 5 on June 4 at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. The PlayStation 5 presentation will run for just over an hour and will showcase new PS5 games for the system and the first real gameplay from Sony's next-generation console.

Specific details beyond that have not yet been shared, but in speaking with GameSpot sister site CNET, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan reiterated once again that PS5 is still set for a release in 2020.

Latest Nintendo Switch Update 10.0.4 Actually Does Something

3 years 10 months ago

Nintendo has released a new system update for Switch, bringing the hybrid console to version 10.0.4. Unlike the average update, this one is not focused exclusively on improving system stability--although it doesn't introduce any new user-facing features, either.

As detailed on Nintendo's support website, the brief patch notes for Switch's update 10.0.4 key in on a single issue that you may or may not have experienced. Nintendo says it's fixed a problem concerning being unable to register credit cards or add funds via credit card on the Eshop in some regions. That will come as good news for those who might have been prevented from buying things on the store, including the just-released Clubhouse Games.

Nothing else is mentioned in the patch notes--shockingly, not even the standard line about stability improvements that are frequently the lone inclusion in new Switch updates. Hopefully your console was already sufficiently stable.

Animal Crossing Turnips Guide: Master New Horizons' Stalk Market

3 years 10 months ago

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has an interesting economy, to say the least. If you've been playing the game for at least a few days, you've likely sold fruit, bugs, fish, and various random items to make a quick bell. This will get you by for a bit, but you'll need to get better income sources as your house payments start to balloon and you have to make larger infrastructure improvements around town. That's where the "stalk market"-- the game's take on the stock market--comes into play. Animal Crossing: New Horizons lets you trade in a high-risk and high-reward speculation system, and with interest rates recently reduced for savings, you'll need to make the most of it.

Named for the turnips you're buying and selling, the stalk market is a finicky thing. But you can stand to make major profits if you keep an eye on Timmy and Tommy's prices and know when to sell. We've rounded up everything you need to know about Animal Crossing's turnip trade, from how to buy turnips to the types of stalk market patterns you should look out for and our best tips.

Destiny 2 Hosts Fortnite-Style Live Event As Rasputin Shoots Down The Almighty [Update: It's Over]

3 years 10 months ago

Update: Well, it's over. Rasputin destroyed the Almighty, and after a long wait as missiles arced through the sky and then finally slammed into the ship, the Almighty was torn apart, crashing in the mountains just beyond the Tower. Some debris came down near the Last City, but the crisis was averted.

If you missed it, you can still see the wreckage of the Almighty in the distance from the back of the Tower, opposite where Zavala stands. Debris is still falling from the sky and the ship is still burning, but it's not clear if there might be more going on with the Almighty--perhaps visiting the crash site--in the future. Watch the embedded video to see what happened if you couldn't be there in-game.

Visit Zavala to unlocks some new dialogue about what happened. You can also talk to Ana Bray on Mars to get another bit of story, although her dialogue is in text form. Beside Zavala on the left is the small amount of damage the Almighty managed to do to the Tower, in the form of a hole that was ripped in a wall. Hop down into it and you'll be prompted to "Inspect the Crash Site." Doing so will earn you a commemorative emblem, "Seraph's Wings," for taking part in the Season of the Worthy and helping to destroy the Almighty.

Sega Reveals New "Fog Gaming" Program, Will Use Arcade Machines Somehow

3 years 10 months ago

Thanks to some Japanese-language news sources, we now know the nature of the big Sega reveal that was teased for this week's Famitsu. The publisher is working on some kind of initiative that it's dubbed "fog gaming." While it's not exactly clear what that is--or if it's comparable to cloud gaming services like Google Stadia--according to analyst Serkan Toto, it will likely involve using the guts of arcade machines during off-hours. They'll be good for more than just playing Dig-Dug and Street Fighter now.

Animal Crossing K.K. Slider Songs Guide: All The Secret Songs And Full Song List

3 years 10 months ago

After you convince K.K. Slider to visit your island for the first time in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (and unlock the ability to terraform), the wandering musician will return there every Saturday night to perform a small concert, just like in previous Animal Crossing games. You'll find him sitting in front of your Resident Services building all day, but he'll only play music for you between 6 PM and midnight.

As in past titles, you can either let K.K. play a random song or request to hear a specific tune, and he'll give you a record of the first song he plays that night. While you can purchase most of these songs through the Nook Shopping terminal, there are a handful of "secret" songs that K.K. will only play by request, so if you want to get your hands on those records, you'll need to specifically request them.

Below, we've rounded up the full list of K.K. Slider songs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The secret songs that K.K. only plays by request are denoted in bold. Keep in mind that you'll need to type each song title out as it is written below (meaning you need to have the proper punctuation and capitalization) when requesting the songs; if you spell the title incorrectly, K.K. will instead play a backup song that you can't take home as a record and say he didn't understand your request.

An unfinished build for Dead Island 2 has found its way online via 4Chan, and was originally from June 2015. Players have begun uploading footage, which features voice acting, first-person combat, and much of the world seemingly complete. Survivors hack and slash through multiple zombies, with blood gushing but not all gore implemented yet. Some obstacles sport a green, flat look instead of finished textures, as do certain buildings.

PS4 Back Button Attachment Back In Stock At Best Buy, Walmart, And PlayStation Right Now

3 years 10 months ago

The best PS4 controllers out there feature programmable back paddles, and earlier this year, Sony released an attachment that equipped its DualShock 4 with them. That move proved popular, as the back button attachment sold out quite quickly. Sony announced last week that more would be back in stock in the US this week, and that looks to be have held true. The DualShock 4 back button attachment costs $30 and is currently available at some major retailers. Some have it in stock, while others are offering backorders that let you order ahead of time and receive it when more stock becomes available.

Right now, you can get one shipped to you from Best Buy and Walmart for its standard $30 price tag. You can also order one from GameStop via backorder. The peripheral has proven to be quite popular, however, so this current round of stock will likely sell out soon. You can also get it from PlayStation Direct.

Premier League Will Use FIFA Crowd Noise For Empty-Arena Games

3 years 10 months ago

FIFA games may start to feel more realistic for fans of the English Premier League, as Sky Sports is working with EA Sports to develop chants and crowd noises to simulate a live audience for people at home. Originally reported by The Verge, the goal is to recreate the energy of a live crowd as matches are played in empty stadiums due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sky Sports viewers will be able to choose to watch with or without the added noise. Crowd noise and simulated chants are being designed for specific teams. Sky is also working on other ways to change how people watch sports at home, like allowing fans to watch matches in a video room with friends on its website and app.

"With live sport on hold for over two months, we've spent a lot of time thinking about how we broadcast in new ways to bring fans together, even if they can't meet up to watch the match," Rob Webster, Sky Sports managing director, said in a press release. "We want Sky Sports viewers to still feel it all and have the best possible viewing experience--even if they can't be in the stadiums or watch with their family and friends."

Ghost of Tsushima, one of the last major PS4 exclusives we know about, is now less than two months away. Initially planned for June 26, PlayStation announced Ghost of Tsushima will now release July 17--just one month after Sony's other major game for the year: The Last of Us Part 2, which hits June 19. PlayStation recently showed off around 18 minutes of new Ghost of Tsushima gameplay in its latest State of Play livestream on May 14, and we got an up-close look at the game's open-world exploration, combat, stealth mechanics, character customization, and much more. It also has multiple pre-order bonuses and editions available to pre-order, including the Collector's Edition that's currently back in stock at Walmart and Best Buy.

Developed by Infamous series studio Sucker Punch, Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world action stealth game set in feudal Japan. You play as one of the only samurai to survive the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima in 1274. Your job is to sneak around, fight enemies, and take the island back.

Treachery In Beatdown City's Story Was Updated Until The Final Days Of Development

3 years 10 months ago

Treachery in Beatdown City is a beat-'em-up fighter with both RPG and tactics-influenced mechanics. Its story is also incredibly relevant to the current-day culture and political climate, so though game designer, artist, and writer Shawn Alexander Allen started on the game's story back in 2012, he had to keep updating the narrative all the way up to the final days of the game's development.

As an example, Allen told GamesIndustry.Biz that mentions of the gig economy, the influence of gentrification when it comes to online dating, privatization of public services, and surveillance states were all added in later drafts of Treachery in Beatdown City's scripts.

"These are all things that made it in the last few months of script revisions," Allen says. "It didn't change the game much; it changed the flow of conversation and it actually made things make a lot more sense. Like, how do you know all this information about this character? That's fine as a gameplay element, but is it actually ethical for you to have all this information? It ended up making the conversations a bit more sobering, and makes people start wondering a bit more about what the police's role is."

Xbox Store For PC Beta Adds Mod Support For Games

3 years 10 months ago

It's been a while since Microsoft first announced its intention to bring modding support to games hosted on the Xbox Store on PC, and the latest beta for the store is finally laying the foundation for that future.

As reported by Windows Central, the Xbox Store on PC has been updated with mod support for at least one title. Into the Breach, the engrossing strategy game by Subset Games, can now have mods activated from its store page on the Xbox Store. The option prompts a message from Microsoft explaining some of the dangers of using mods, but then allows the application to pull additional files from its directory into the game.

The Xbox Store doesn't facilitate the mods and their installation just yet, but opening applications to use them is a big step forward for the platform. Alternative storefronts, like Steam, offer quick and easy ways to browse and install additional content, making it as simple as purchasing the games that support them. Microsoft is working towards that same promise, and this new beta shows that it hasn't fallen off their radar.

Summer Games Done Quick Will Be Online-Only In August

3 years 10 months ago

After being postponed several weeks ago, Summer Games Done Quick 2020 will now be an online-only event when it takes place in its new August time slot.

The annual week-long fundraising event traditionally takes place earlier in the summer, but was pushed back to August earlier this year as the effects of COVID-19 became widely apparent. In the weeks following the delay, SGDQ organizers have been monitoring the situation, and ultimately decided that hosting a live, in-person event would not be responsible.

"We would like to thank the community for its patience while we were figuring out the best way to proceed with Summer Games Done Quick 2020," explained Kasumi Yogi, Director of Marketing and Business Development at Games Done Quick. "We're excited to continue showcasing some of the most talented speedrunners in the world while observing best practices to keep everyone safe in the midst of a global pandemic."

We're quickly nearing the end of Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2. Since the season began back in February, developer Epic Games has introduced a host of new content and other changes to the popular battle royale shooter, including a variety of spy-themed gameplay mechanics and even a Deadpool skin.

One thing that hasn't changed, however, is challenges. Every week throughout the season, Epic has been rolling out a new set of challenges for Battle Pass holders to complete. Season 2 was originally scheduled to end on April 30, but it has now been extended until June 17, so there's still some time left to complete any weekly challenges you may have missed. Obvious Pokemon Rip-Off Appears On Microsoft Store

3 years 10 months ago

When it comes to Pokemon, "Gotta Catch 'Em All" probably refers to rip-off games as much as it does the pocket monsters themselves. Another obvious Pokemon rip-off game has popped up, this time on the Microsoft store.

Originally spotted by Nintendo Life, Capsmon Adventure: Brave Heroes Assemble makes no attempt beyond the name to hide that it's a rip-off, using official Pokemon artwork and characters. The game even uses promotional artwork from Pokémon the Movie: Genesect And The Legend Awakened as the app icon.

The game is available for free with in-game purchases and can be downloaded on PC and mobile, at least until Nintendo and/or The Pokemon Company have it taken down. While the game was noticed on Thursday, the Microsoft store has a listed release date of March 30.
