Tekken 8 Fans Use Cheat Engine to Uncover Potential Unannounced Playable Characters

9 months 3 weeks ago

Tekken 8 fans used Cheat Engine to dig into the game’s files, uncovering a list of potentially unannounced playable characters.

Players scraped the build used for the recent PlayStation 5 Tekken 8 closed network test, which ran from July 21 to 24, and took to Discord to report their findings. An image showing a list of character files that includes those already announced also mentions unannounced characters such as Shaheen (Tekken 7), Raven (Tekken 5), Zafina (Tekken 6), Yoshimitsu (Tekken), Steve (Tekken 4), and Alisa (Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion).

Fans currently believe this leaked is incomplete because it does not include series mainstays such as Kuma. But it’s a solid indication of what to expect from the fighting game upon launch. For reference, here’s a list of all the currently announced characters for Tekken 8:

Activision Hauls 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Steam Multiplayer Offline to Combat Hackers

9 months 3 weeks ago

Activision brought Steam multiplayer for 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 offline to combat hackers.

TechCrunch reports hackers were infecting players with a worm that spreads automatically in online lobbies from one infected player to another. As Techcrunch points out, this suggests hackers have exploiting bugs in Modern Warfare 2 to execute malicious code on players’ computers.

“Multiplayer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) on Steam was brought offline while we investigate reports of an issue,” Activision said in a tweet.

Despite being 14 years old, Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 retains a modest fanbase that sees hundreds of concurrents on Steam.

Older Call of Duty games on Xbox 360 received a surprise shot in the arm recently after apparent matchmaking improvements from Microsoft. Microsoft declined to comment when contacted by IGN.

Remnant 2 Developer Promises to Improve Game’s Performance Following Huge Launch

9 months 3 weeks ago

The developer of Remnant 2 has promised to improve the game’s performance following its huge launch.

The well-received looter-shooter soulslike is currently the second best-selling game on Steam, up 14 places since last week. Remnant 2 has enjoyed a significant launch on Valve’s platform, with close to double the amount of concurrent players than Remnant: From the Ashes had at launch. At the time of publication, Remnant 2 was the 12th most-played game on Steam with 53,848 concurrent players and a peak today of 82,872.

Developer Gunfire Games said it was “humbled” and “grateful” for the overwhelmingly positive response from the community, while acknowledging a “small portion” of players have encountered some bugs.

“We know that encountering bugs and glitches can be frustrating and can hinder your excitement for the game,” development director Ben Gabbard said in a blog post. “We take these issues incredibly seriously, and our team is working to identify and address these issues as quickly as possible.

“Since we’ve launched, we’ve already addressed some early issues that have popped up such as progression blockers in the Labyrinth and Nightweaver’s Web and issues with the Waterharp Puzzle. We will continue to work to deliver fixes for remaining issues over the coming days and weeks.”

Gabbard outlined some of the issues Gunfire is currently looking at:

Let's get evil in Dragon Age: Inquisition

9 months 3 weeks ago

As Emma's Adventures takes a short break, Bertie embarks on an experimental new adventure of his own. This adventure is exclusive to supporters of Eurogamer. Remember, you can still try a month for free but the redemption period ends very soon, on Tuesday, 1st August.

Do you know what bothers me? Being good. Games expect it of us. They assume we want to save the world and want to help people out of the goodness of our hearts. And sometimes, I don't. Sometimes, I want to be the villain in the world. Sometimes, I want to be bad.

This corrupted seed was sown by Dragon Age: Origins many moons ago. I didn't set out to be evil in the game, I set out to be how I always am in BioWare games - a hero, a saviour, a force for good in the world. But then I accidentally got into an argument with a potential companion and killed her, and then I accidentally-on-purpose traded a small boy's life with a demon in return for Blood Magic. I'm sure any of you would have done the same.

In the Pokemon TCG Obsidian Flames Expansion, Orange Is the New Black

9 months 3 weeks ago

pokemon trading card game tcg obsidian flames review

The Pokemon video games are commonly about type matchups, and swapping in and out to manage those advantages. That’s always been present in the TCG, with the “weakness” meaning players take double damage from one type and “resistance” cutting 30 damage off another. In practice, though? Yeah, that tilts a match sometimes, but you aren’t usually able to do much about it. Energy types mean you build toward one strategy! Maybe two? But it’s not a team composition puzzle.

Tera Pokemon are the TCG’s latest attempt to add that back in. Much like the Scarlet & Violet raid opponents, the set’s new Tera variants move creatures to a different type. What makes this special is that many of them still use the old energy type. Attacks that use non-colorless energy have always been intended to be stronger, and that’s the case here too.

Vespiquen ex shifts from Grass to Psychic type, with a three-energy Phantom Queen ability that deals 200 damage to the opponent’s active combatant and 30 to any damaged foes on the bench. This works really well with last set’s cards, like Ting-Lu ex that focus on dealing chip damage to everyone. Tyranitar ex does a lot of damage for a few Fighting energy, and you might actually want the discards it forces as a “drawback” to its strong attacks.

Free Broforce Forever Update Arrives in August, Also Coming to Xbox

9 months 3 weeks ago

Devolver Digital and developer Free Lives’ 2015 hit Broforce is basting its biceps in baby oil one more time. It’s been confirmed the belated final update for the game will arrive on August 8 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. In conjunction with the update, Broforce will also arrive on Xbox for the first time; an Xbox One edition of Broforce will be available via Game Pass.

The update, dubbed Broforce Forever, will add six new “ultra patriotic bros” to the mix, including riffs on ’90s TV action heroines Xebro Warrior Princess and Broffy the Vampire Slayer, plus Bro Gummer (inspired by Burt Gummer from Tremors), Seth Brondle (inspired by Seth Brundle from The Fly), Demolition Bro (inspired by Demolition Man’s John Spartan), and Desperabro (a long-overdue ode to Robert Rodriguez’s vigilante mariachi). Presumably he’s just looking for a man who calls himself Bucho, but Broforce's Satan-loving scumbags just had to do it the hard way.

Also included in the Forever update are new and improved baddies, tweaks to existing urban levels to make them slightly tougher, and four challenge levels called Muscle Temples – in which Indiana Brones must successfully navigate his way through to unlock one of four new flexes that can be deployed by “any bro, any time, any place. Just like freedom.” The flexes appear to be power-ups, and Free Lives’ announcement refers to a ‘Teleport Flex’, an ‘Invincible Flex’, an ‘Air Jump Flex’, and a mysterious ‘Golden Flex.’

Broforce Developer on the Surprise Final Update, Possibility of Broforce 2

9 months 3 weeks ago

Developer Free Lives has returned to the pectoral-popping embrace of its much-loved 2015 hit to deliver one final update: Broforce Forever, which is packed with new bros, new modes, new moves, and one final batch of bug fixes.

What drove the studio to put together a surprise update around seven years after we thought we’d seen the last of Broforce? Who decides which bros make the cut in the final product? And can we expect more from the series and, dare we say it, Broforce 2? We spoke with Broforce creative director Evan Greenwood on the motivation to return to Broforce, the hilarious process for adding new bros to the game, and the possible future of the series.

IGN: It’s been a long time since Broforce news; what was the motivation to go back to it after such a long hiatus, especially considering how fast the games business moves sometimes?

Evan Greenwood: Broforce has some passionate fans, and they kept asking us to improve certain less-than-perfect aspects of the game. You know, balance issues that kept niggling high-level players.

When we did come back to working on the project we found it both more exciting to work on, and a lot more difficult to work with, than we had imagined. The codebase had become creaky under the weight of all the ports to consoles and the necessary optimizations that had been performed on it, but making more Broforce was fun! In our excitement we started imagining an even bigger update, possibly even a standalone game, but had to reign the scope back once reality set in.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart PC Basically Unplayable Without an SSD

9 months 3 weeks ago

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on PC is for all intents and purposes unplayable without an SSD, experts have revealed.

Digital Foundry’s John Linneman discussed the game’s performance when running off an actual PlayStation 4 hard-drive on a machine just above minimum spec. As the gameplay shows, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Part breaks down during its famous level-shifting mechanic.

Developer Insomniac and publisher Sony drew criticism after Rift Apart’s PC specs were announced in the run up to the game’s launch. The specs confirmed Rift Apart does not require an SSD to run, despite this being a central part of the original PlayStation 5 version's marketing.

Julian Huijbregts, online community specialist at porting studio Nixxes Software, said to run Rift Apart on Very Low settings (720p and 30fps), users would require an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon RX 470 GPU, and 8GB of RAM.

20 Years Later, EVE Online is Still Ahead of its Time

9 months 3 weeks ago

In recent conversations with fellow MMO fanatics, we always seem to come around to lamenting how the genre has reached something of an evolutionary dead end in the mainstream. With World of Warcraft leading the way to nowhere, the style of the developer-curated world we often refer to as a "theme park"-style game has struggled to do anything truly new since Blizzard's powerhouse came to dominate the scene in 2004. It's an entrenched set of conventions that rely on heavy phasing and instancing, limiting how much a massively multiplayer online game can take advantage of being, well, massive, multiplayer, and online.

But before Azeroth opened its gates, a spreadsheet-laden spaceship game from a small studio in Iceland went all-in on the idea of a player-driven sandbox and never looked back. Two decades later, that game – EVE Online – is still ahead of its time.

Before WoW, There Was EVE

"Before there were petrol cars, there were electric cars," CCP's CEO Hilmar Pétursson told me back in April. "The first cars were all electric. Then someone had the idea of making them run on petrol and kind of killed the electric car. But the electric car came back again. There are many examples like this in human history, where some tracer bullet takes off, but it's so ahead of its time that it takes many years to be adopted by others. And I think EVE is like that."

Review: Hello Kitty Island Adventure Is Animal Crossing with a To-Do List

9 months 3 weeks ago

hello kitty island adventure review

Know what I love about Animal Crossing and all other life simulations like it? It lets you really relax and take your time. You don’t need to rush around. Go meet cute colorful characters who all want to be your friends and enjoy life at your own pace. Hello Kitty Island Adventure is definitely like Animal Crossing in some ways, as it does offer an island to make your home, but it’s really more of a take on Disney Magical World 2 or Disney Dreamlight Valley. There’s a massive to-do list ahead of you, lots of ingredients and materials to collect, and familiar mascots who want to be your friend.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure begins with a plane ride to Friendship Island, a place that is supposed to be home to a resort and entertaining attractions. However, something happened and now it’s abandoned. After deciding if you’re a bird, feline, or dog in the character creator and getting to know the Sanrio all-stars on the same flight as you, a cake disaster forces everyone to skydive to their new home. Since everything is abandoned and a strange sentient hologram known as TOPHAT is suffering from amnesia, it’s up to you to find all the Sanrio characters, make friends with them, explore the island, and lure new visitors there.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart system requirements, PC performance, and best settings to use

I bloody love Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. It’s a meaty and satisfying action-platformer with possibly the best-executed comedy and character work of the entire series; a series that’s essentially grown up alongside me, in tone as much as technical sophistication. The RPS (not quite) 100: Honourable mentions

9 months 3 weeks ago

Every year when I ask the team to vote for their favourite games of all time ahead of us putting together our annual RPS 100 list, I'm regularly astonished by the sheer breadth of games that fly into my inbox. Everyone on the team has such varied, individual tastes, and it heartens me to see so many different genres and types of games represented every year. This year's list (available to read now in Part One and Part Two is another great testament to that.

But as we (sometimes) jokingly say any time we compile a big list like this, the games that didn't make the cut are always at #101. Well, this year I thought supporters might like to see those games at #101 this year, and crikey, there are a lot. There are so many here, in fact, that we would have had to have stretched to an RPS 200 to include them all. So here are our honourable mentions this year (listed, for ease), and I'd love to see you try and guess which games belonged to which member of the team.

Another exquisite Lords of the Fallen gameplay trailer released, PC specs revealed

9 months 3 weeks ago

Hexworks has released an extended gameplay presentation for Lords of the Fallen, and as we have come to expect, it looks exquisite.

The presentation gave us another chance to see the harrowing environments we will be presented with on release. We will be able to explore Axiom, the realm of the living, and Umbral, the realm of the dead.

Each of these realms will have their own enemies, characters, treasures and the like. One example of an enemy in Umbral was a rather unusual head with arms and legs, but no body. This chap is known as a 'Mendacious Visage', and I certainly wouldn't want to meet him on a dark night (although, that is probably exactly what will happen whenever I play the game). There was also another enemy that reminded me of Silent Hill's Pyramid Head.

Masahiro Sakurai: ‘I Can't Imagine a Smash Bros. Title Without Me’

9 months 3 weeks ago

What’s the future of the Smash Bros. series? A new game seems inevitable, given the franchise’s popularity. But will Smash Bros. development chief be along for the ride? In a new video, Masahiro Sakurai said: “I can't imagine a Smash Bros. title without me.”

In the latest video published to his YouTube channel, Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games, Sakurai reveals he didn't learn about 2008 Wii game Smash Bros. Brawl until the E3 when Nintendo announced it to the industry, and ponders the future of the series.

"The question now is what happens next time?” Sakurai asks. “I mean whatever comes after Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. One option would be to separate the series from its original creator, but for now at least, I can't imagine a Smash Bros. title without me. You might think that's a natural stance for someone in my role, but I say so speaking objectively.

"I feel the same way President Iwata did when we formed the team for Smash Bros. Brawl. At present, we don't have someone who can simply take the reins. Smash Bros. is a massive, important title for Nintendo, so it's fair to assume there will be another one at some point, but it's going to take some work to figure out exactly how to make that happen. For my part, I'd like to keep working with Nintendo however I'm able."

Sakurai goes on to clarify that these comments reflect his opinion at this time, so they may change. But they do suggest Sakurai will return to helm the development of the next Smash Bros. game.

As part of the Hololive Summer 2023 events and activities, Cover announced a reveal of its Vtubers new swimsuits. The new outfits and models will appear during a karaoke stream relay. Members from the English, Indonesian, and Japanese branches will all get new clothes, which all feature similar styles and match. However, they will also have each performer’s signature colors. Things start on July 29, 2023, the same day Hololive Advent debuts begin.

The general swimsuit "opening ceremony" program starts a bit earlier. That will come up at 4am PT/7am ET/8pm JST. While the screenshot does show English members like Ouro Kronii and Ceres Fauna, as well as the Indonesian branch member Pavolia Reine, it will be in Japanese.

Final Fantasy XIV Pusheen Crossover Teased Again

Ahead of the start of the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023, the official Pusheen Twitter account teased another FFXIV crossover. No details appeared, beyond a single image of Pusheen on a Chocobo. However, the announcement did say to watch the keynote.

Here is the official teaser.

This sort of Pusheen Final Fantasy XIV crossover happened before. First, there were some official comics showing the character dressed as familiar mascots from the series and in job costumes. So instead of a Moogle, there was a Pusheen Mewgle.
