Overwatch 2: Blizzard Removes Another Hero Due to Bugs

1 year 6 months ago

Blizzard has announced that it is temporarily removing Overwatch 2 hero Mei from the game due to a bug. The character is expected to return to the game alongside the next patch, which is due out on November 15.

"We are temporarily disabling Mei to address a bug with her Ice Wall ability that allows heroes to reach unintended locations," Blizzard stated in a tweet from its customer service account. "We are working to address these issues as quickly as possible and aim to bring Mei back in our next upcoming patch which is set for November 15."

Warcraft's Death Knight Class Is Coming to Hearthstone!

1 year 6 months ago

The Hearthstone team today announced a hugely exciting set of updates. Let me just bullet point it out for you to give you an idea of the scope, and then we'll dive into the details:

- The Death Knight class is being added to Hearthstone and has impressively varied gameplay thanks to a Blood/Frost/Undead rune system and corpse mechanic. It will have 68 cards at launch.

- Alongside the new class will be a new expansion - March of the Lich King, which is rooted in Warcraft lore and is based around the Lich King's Scourge attacking the Blood Elves of Silvermoon City. It will introduce a new keyword - Manathirst.

- Undead is a new minion type debuting with the set, and hundreds of legacy cards have also been tagged as Undead. Many minions are now dual-type too.

- Hearthstone is getting its first neutral spell - The Sunwell. Not only that, if you log into the game now you'll get it for free.

- Starting now and going through to the release of March of the Lich King (on December 6), the entire Knights of the Frozen Throne set (originally released in 2017 and the first expansion to feature hero cards) has been added back to the Standard format.

- Signature cards are being introduced to Hearthstone, which have alternate expansion-specific art.

Okay, let's go over the above in more detail.

Behind the Scenes With Hearthstone's Death Knight

1 year 6 months ago

It's mid-October 2022, and I'm back at Blizzard HQ. The last time I was here (and as a matter of fact, in America as a whole) was in late January 2020, just as COVID-19 was really starting to build a head of steam. A lot has changed since then. Blizzard has had a very public fall from grace, as many of the company's employees stood up and made their voices heard on a wide range of issues, from rampant gender inequality to toxic work cultures. The campus itself is also a strange shadow of its former self. Once a bustling mini-metropolis with open plan offices full of people, meeting rooms playing host to lively discussions and dogs congregating alongside their owners on the lawn outside the cafeteria, the halls and working spaces are now eerily quiet, desks mostly empty aside from monitor frames and chairs. Staff are beginning to make their way back, but it's a gradual process, and the current ghost town vibe offers a stark juxtaposition to the before times.

One thing that this visit does have in common with the last time I made the journey across the Pacific is that Team 5 - the Hearthstone team - are preparing to launch a new class. In 2020 it was Demon Hunter, but now they're embracing one of the great stories of Warcraft - the fall of Arthas Menethil and his transformation into the accursed Lich King - and introducing the Death Knight.

Horizon: Forbidden West Writer Joins Fable Reboot

1 year 6 months ago

A senior writer on Horizon: Forbidden West has left Guerrilla Games to join Playground and work on the upcoming Xbox exclusive Fable reboot.

As reported by Eurogamer, Andrew Walsh announced on LinkedIn that he was leaving the world of PlayStation to start work on its rival Xbox's upcoming fantasy game developed by the Forza Horizon studio.

This won't be Walsh's first foray into Fable, however, as he previously served as narrative lead on the cancelled co-op spin-off game Fable Legends, working at the now defunct Lionhead Studios from 2013 to 2015.

Walsh had most recently served as associate narrative director on the PlayStation VR 2's Horizon: Call of the Mountain, but has a long-running career in video game writing. He's previously worked on Watch Dogs Legion, The Division 2, Shadow of the Beast, and more.

It's still unknown when fans can expect to see more of the legendary fantasy franchise, but it's certainly been a long wait so far, given Fable for Xbox Series X was officially announced more than two years ago in July 2020.

John Travolta, Ben Stiller, LeBron James Attend Kratos Counseling In Hilarious God of War Trailer

1 year 6 months ago

The marketing for God of War: Ragnarok is ramping up ahead of next week's release, and the latest trailer features appearances from three big celebrity names.

In the new "All Parents Can Relate" video (which you can watch above!), Ben Stiller, LeBron James, and John Travolta are all attending a counseling session with their kids. Stiller steals the show, dressed up just like God of War's Kratos, saying "The God of War dynamic plays out in every parent-child relationship. When that clicked for me, I picked up my Leviathan Axe, and felt truly close to my son for the very first time."

Stiller and Travolta bond over the fact that they lay in bed awake at night thinking about Kratos, causing Travolta's daughter to lean in and tell her dad he's "being too thirsty" for the God of War. Other highlights include Stiller helping LeBron and his son reach a "LeBreakthrough" in their relationship, and Travolta's daughter bluntly telling her dad "you're old and you're bald." Many viewers in the YouTube comments are now clamoring for a Ben Stiller DLC skin for Kratos in God of War Ragnarok.

Exclusive: Check Out This Beautiful New Lightning Card in the Final Fantasy TCG

1 year 6 months ago

The upcoming Final Fantasy Trading Card Game set, Resurgence of Power, will soon release this year on December 9. The new booster set is packed full of fan favorites from Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, and Final Fantasy 13 just to name a few. Speaking of Final Fantasy 13, we have an exclusive reveal of the newest Lightning card, one of the rarest cards in the set. Take a look in all its glory:

The new dual-color Lightning is a crazy strong card costing a measly two crystal power or mana. If you're running a lightning and water deck or cards that can play two cost cards for free, this Lightning will fit in just perfectly. First off, she has Haste which allows her to attack the same turn she was played. Paired with her enter-the-field ability, not only are you leaving room to deal direct damage to your opponent but you also draw a new card. With her power being 7000 as well, she's stronger than the average of her cost type.

To top it all off, she has a secondary ability where she can be summoned back from the Break Zone or discard pile. There is a lot of discard removal in the current meta with the likes of Exdeath or Mist Dragon, but you can activate this to save your Lighting and gain a body on the field again. This is really a great card, and I wouldn't be surprised if Lightning returns to dominate the meta in this next set.

Three rare variants and more

In addition to this exclusive Lightning card, here are some of the rarest cards in the set and maybe the entire card game:

Level Zero Exclusive Preview: Like Dead by Daylight Meets Alien Isolation

1 year 6 months ago

Level Zero is an asymmetric multiplayer survival horror game that looks as if Dead By Daylight and Alien Isolation were thrown into a blender – potentially in the very best of ways. It’s that classic story of a science expedition gone wrong. Teamwork is everything, of course, as four scientists fight to survive against two powerful monsters in a PvP showdown. Developer DogHowl Games recently invited me to a hands-off preview, and so far, I’m feeling optimistic.

As the science team, your goal is to restart the electrical system, finding and fixing the broken fusebox in all three sectors. That requires a toolbox hidden in the darkness, so don’t go rushing ahead, though failure to restart the power within 30 minutes results in defeat. Once done, activating the mainframe leads to a tense final confrontation that plunges you into total darkness for 60 seconds, and only one scientist needs to survive to win. DogHowl acknowledges there’s a learning curve here, so take your time studying the map.

Your ultimate weapon against monsters is light; there are no gunplay or melee weapons here to protect yourselves. With limited resources available, this requires strategic thinking and you’ll need to pick your moments. Should you use the UV light that won’t run out of power but doesn’t hurt monsters? Do you choose a torch with minor damage that gradually depletes? Or is a trusty flare what you need, which both illuminates your surroundings and inflicts significant damage to monsters?

'Epic Didn't Really Know What to Do With the Franchise,' Cliff Bleszinski on the Gears of War Sale to Xbox

1 year 6 months ago

While Gears of War has always been connected to the Xbox brand, the series was created by Epic Games as an exclusive. And though the series eventually found its way to Microsoft's first-party portfolio, lead designer Cliff Bleszinski shared his thoughts on the sale.

IGN sat down with Bleszinski for a new episode of Unfiltered and found out how the game director felt when it was announced that Epic Games would sell the franchise to Microsoft in 2014. This was two years after Bleszinski left Epic Games in 2012.

"I honestly think once Lee Perry [Gameplay Designer, Gears of War 2], myself, and Rod Ferguson [Producer, Gears of War] left, I believe that Epic didn't really know what to do with the franchise," Bleszinski tells IGN. He further believes the sale helped Epic fund its future ventures and growth.

"They hadn't shipped a game in a while. The [Unreal] engine was doing rather well, but they were growing and they probably needed the income even though they really didn't know what to do with the future of the franchise."

Bleszinski also says that following the sale, the only person to call him about it was Xbox's Phil Spencer. "As much as I loved Tim and Mark [Rein, VP of Epic Games] and we're still in touch, but when the IP was sold to Microsoft the only phone call I got was from Phil Spencer. Right? And that's Phil. Phil is, as they say, a gentleman and a scholar."

Embracer Group Shuts Down Square Enix Montreal Studio Just Months After Acquiring It

1 year 6 months ago

According to a Bloomberg report, video game publisher Embracer has shut down Onoma, the studio formerly known as Square Enix Montreal, just months after its acquisition. Some staff will be transferred to Eidos Montreal, another studio owned by Embracer. This news comes just a few weeks after Onoma underwent a rebranding process where it adopted the new name.

Onoma was best known for its work on the Go series, turn-based spin-offs of popular Eidos Interactive titles designed for mobile. This includes Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go, and Deus Ex Go. Their most recent work was Tomb Raider Reloaded, which came to mobile devices earlier this year, and their future plans involved a title based on Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Review – Wide Of The Mark

Publisher: Activision
Developer: Infinity Ward

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a very unpleasant game. Like every Call of Duty game, the majority of time spent playing involves either killing or being killed in horrendous ways, for one thing, and there’s a natural revulsion that comes from seeing so many gouts of blood shooting from bodies or the ragged slump of newly lifeless human corpses piled up in a doorway. And yet, the surface-level hideousness of its parade of death might not be so notably ugly if it wasn't for Modern Warfare II's cast of characters and the way they – drawn from international special forces, a private military company’s contractors, and a Mexican cartel – view the world.

French Streamer Creates Yu-Gi-Oh 3D Battle Arena in Home

French Streamer Yu-Gi-Oh 3D Battle Arena

French streamer Superzouloux has created a Yu-Gi-Oh 3D battle arena within his very own home. Footage of the arena was shared on Twitter by Jake Lucky. This included a clip demonstrating how the arena works. The footage shows 3D models appearing on camera once a card has been played, similar to how it does in games like Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. However, it doesn't stop there.

Superzouloux also programmed cameras to switch perspectives once the card has been played. This has created an entirely hands-free experience for the streamer, which is demonstrated in the footage. In an extended YouTube video he reveals that he was working on this project for roughly 7 months behind the scenes. He breaks down he process of creating this system. This includes the effort that went into making the 3D models for the cards and the creation of special electronic parts.

You can watch footage of Superzouloux's Yu-Gi-Oh 3D battle arena below. It video does feature subtitles, so viewers can read about his process in creating the fully functional arena while watching the clip.

North American media news outlet Anime News Network announced Kadokawa will acquire its media business. The news came directly from the website, which featured a statement from both the President of Anime News Network (or ANN) Christopher Macdonald and President of Kadokawa Takeshi Natsuno. The acquisition will finalize sometime by the end of 2023. An amount was not disclosed in the statement.

Both parties express excitement regarding the acquisition, with Macdonald stating that "all of ANN's staff remain entirely dedicated to the standards of professional, exhaustive, and editorially independent journalism that ANN is already known for and we believe that Kadokawa's resources will be a great benefit to ANN's journalism and our readers."

Unreleased Sega Adult Game The Sacred Pools Revealed

1 year 6 months ago

The Sacred Pools

Game history blog Gaming Alexandria shared details and gameplay footage of The Sacred Pools, a 1996 "erotic thriller" by Sega that was never released. Dylan Mansfield penned a deep dive into the history of the game and its ties to the decline of FMV games in the 1990s.

Sega originally planned to release The Sacred Pools in 1997. SegaSoft aimed to publish games for both PC and Sega Saturn, as well as target older audiences. The game first debuted at E3 1996, where it faced a largely negative reaction from the press and onlookers. By the late 1990s, most avid games media and game enthusiasts soured on the prospects of FMV games. The critical drubbing and instability at SegaSoft itself (by 1997 the division would be restructured to focus on online games and the PC market) led Sega to quietly shelve The Sacred Pools.

That would've been the end of it, with the game remembered only through brief articles in gaming magazines of the time. However, in May 2022 Gaming Alexandria connected with Joe Cain, a former Sega game tester. Cain put them in contact with David Gray, who had worked as an associate producer on The Sacred Pools and happened to own several CD-ROMs with the game data on them. Gray got the discs, which contained alpha builds for the Sega Saturn, Windows PC, Mac, and PlayStation versions of the game as a parting gift in SegaSoft's waning days. (The division was disbanded in 2000.) Twenty years later, the game was finally copied to digital storage and made available via emulation.

Capcom Releases Resident Evil Village Gold Edition Survey

1 year 6 months ago

Capcom Resident Evil Survey

Capcom shared a Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and The Winters' Expansion survey. The survey itself, while relatively short, will provide participants with a special wallpaper upon competition. Questions in it include gauging interest in the release of a new Resident Evil title and if consumers would purchase an entirely new console to play it. However, a specific Resident Evil game was not mentioned outright.

Additionally, the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and The Winters' Expansion survey asks participants about their history with the series. This includes how many games within the franchise they have played.

With the release of Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, several new features have appeared in the game. These include a new "third person" mode, which does exactly as described. Players can now play Resident Evil Village in third-person via it, allowing them to explore the various set pieces in the game in an entirely new way. Alongside the release of Gold Edition, The Winters' Expansion adds a new DLC scenario, Shadow of Rose, which stars Rose Winters.

Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil Gold Edition are available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Owners of Resident Evil Village can purchase the Winters’ Expansion DLC separately. A demo for Resident Evil Gold Edition is readily available.

Namor Featurette & Wakanda Forever Trailer Focus Talokan & Wakanda

1 year 6 months ago

Earlier today, the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel was hard at work yet again getting MCU fans hyped up for the final movie of phase four. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is coming to theaters in 10 days, so they’re just about in the homestretch now. Today, a new featurette about Namor was dropped along with a new trailer for the film.

In the featurette, director Ryan Coogler talks about the introduction of Namor and the nation of Talokan that he rules over.

Producer Nate Moore also talked about how Namor was one of the very first Marvel comic book heroes. While Moore calls him a hero here, he always was more of a shade of gray which seems to be the role he’s playing here in Wakanda Forever.

The next member of the team we hear from in this featurette is Namor himself, Tenoch Huerta Mejía. Mejía talked about how Namor’s love for his people makes him a good ruler of Talokan. He also mentioned how important Talokan was to him in this story since it represents his Mexican culture with dignity and respect.

Last but not least, Letitia Wright talks about how even though Wakanda and Talokan are on different ends of the conflict in the film, they both essentially want the same thing. Everyone just wants to protect and preserve their people. The full Namor featurette can be found down below.

Embracer Group Closes Studio Behind Hitman GO After Only Five Months

1 year 6 months ago

It’s only been a little over five months since Embracer Group purchased several studios from Square Enix, including Square Enix Montreal, the studio behind hits like Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go. The studio had since rebranded to Onoma as of last month. However, things have taken a turn for the worse.

CDE Entertainment, the group Embracer created to handle the Square Enix properties, has announced today that Onoma has been closed, and the focus will instead shift entirely to Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montreal. While studio closures are never good, Onoma was a mobile-based studio, and despite the draw of Hitman Go and the like, it makes sense that it would be less lucrative than something created by those other two developers.

While this closure is said to affect around 200 people, “CDE has said it will look to match some of them with open positions within PC and console projects at the remainder of the company.” Considering the talent seen in the games Onoma created, it can only be a good thing to have those same developers making the next Tomb Raider or the next Deus Ex title.

CDE Entertainment director Phil Rogers had this to say:

EA Bosses Wanted Mass Effect Andromeda to Feel Like a CW Show, According to Former Bioware Lead

1 year 6 months ago

At the end of 2020, executive producer Mark Darrah announced he was leaving Bioware after 23 years. Today, the former developer shared some insight regarding his time at the company during a Q&A on his official Youtube channel to celebrate 10k subscribers. And while there were plenty of great questions and answers, arguably the interesting one was about Mass Effect Andromeda.

During the livestream, a user asked whether Alec Ryder would have made a better protagonist, as the Ryder twins felt childish and less serious. Darrah responded to that question with the following:

I don’t think Alec being the protagonist would be better. I did provide feedback on Andromeda that I felt like this feels like a CW show and was told ‘that’s on purpose.’

I’ve actually thought about this more since then and I think Shepard is the protagonist of an action movie from the 80s and 90s. Ryder is a protagonist from the 2000s. So there is essentially an intentional moving with the audience to some degree.

I don’t think this is the biggest problem with the story in Andromeda. They could have told a refugee story; they could have told a story about colonialsm. Instead they chose to tell a story in the middle of that, that isn’t the interesting version of the story.

I gave the feedback that the protagonist was very young, in a ‘I don’t want to do this’ way, but that was on purpose.

Anyone interested in watching the full Q&A can head over to the link, with the question about Mass Effect Andromeda being embedded at the 1:57:00 mark for your convenience.

EA Announces “Solid” Financial Results Driven by FIFA 23 & Live Services

You can find a summary of the publisher’s financial performance in the table below.

The results were defined “solid” but revenue was slightly down year-on-year. Yet, that’s mostly due to the fact that F1 2022 launched in Q1 this year while it did in Q2 last year. Live services took the lion’s share of total revenue as usual.

Chainsaw Man ED “Tablet” by TOOBOE Is a Certified Bop All About Best Girl Power

1 year 6 months ago

At this point, we have extensively covered the best opening in the Chainsaw Man anime. Considering when we last reported on it, the opening had amassed 22 million views, it’s likely you’ve already seen it at least as much as we have. This time we aren’t gushing about the opening, though, but something just as special.

The anime’s ending Tablet by TOOBOE is both an excellent song and a wonderful showcase of why Power is the best girl in all of anime. Yes, that’s right, all of anime. I’m willing to fight for that opinion, too. The almost stop-motion aspect of the video is entirely enthralling and it’s guaranteed to match the numbers of the original. At the time of writing it’s achieved 446,000 views in the last four hours, further proving what a phenomenon Chainsaw Man has become.

You can see it for yourself below, as many times as you might want.

Midnight Occult Civil Servants Creator’s New Murder Mystery Manga Has Begun

1 year 6 months ago

If you’re a regular manga reader and are looking for the next series to start, we might have just the thing. The new series by Midnight Occult Civil Servants mangaka Tamotsu Youko has now started through Comic Newtype.

If you’ve never heard of Midnight Occult Civil Servants, it has an anime adaptation that you can watch through Crunchyroll that the service summarizes as:

When Miyako Arata joins the Shinjuku Ward Office, he thinks he’s gotten a normal civil servant job. But it turns out he’s joined the Night Community Exchange Department, one of which operates secretly in each of Tokyo’s twenty-three ward offices.

As for the new series, its Japanese title is “Mahoutsukai no hanzai sousa” and Google translates that as “Wizard’s Criminal Investigation”. It is a series involving a wizard/magician wrongfully accused of murder, so he enlists the detective who arrested him in the first place. Comic Newtype summarizes it (translated, of course) as:

Earl Eugene was arrested for murdering his entire family.
He wants to meet with Kevin, the detective who caught him.
“I didn’t kill [them]. I want you to catch the real culprit with me.”

The first chapter is available in Japanese, though we have no idea when it might receive an English translation.

Dune: Spice Wars Coming “Soon” to PC Game Pass

1 year 6 months ago

Dune: Spice Wars publishers Shiro Games and Funcom announced today that the 4X strategy title will be coming to PC Game Pass.

The upcoming new addition to the Game Pass catalog was revealed at Paris Games Week 2022, via the Xbox Wire, though no date for its release was announced. The only details given were that it is an “imminent arrival” and will be “available soon.”

Dune: Spice Wars is a strategy game set in Frank Herbert’s Dune universe where players chooses among different factions to seize control over the valuable resource spice and war with the other factions to do so. Each faction, such as House Corrino, Smugglers, or Fremen, has bonuses that affect different aspects from building armies to diplomacy.

Our impressions of Dune: Spice Wars when it first released in Steam Early Access were positive, calling it “a really solid power fantasy experience that will satisfy your god game needs.”

The game was first announced late last year at The Game Awards 2021, and entered Steam Early Access in April. Dune: Spice Wars will also receive a major update alongside the PC Game Pass release that promises “new features, units, and more,” and is still scheduled to officially launch sometime in 2023.

Embracer Group shuts down former Square Enix Montréal studio

1 year 6 months ago

Embracer Group is closing its down Square Enix Montréal studio - which it purchased as part of a $300m USD deal with Square Enix back in May - just weeks after rebranding it Studio Onoma.

In its Square Enix Montréal guise, Onama was a predominantly mobile-focused developer, perhaps best known for its Go series of puzzles games. It was working on Tomb Raider Reloaded, Avatar Generations, and a new Space Invaders game when it was acquired by Embracer Group alongside Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal in May.

As reported by Bloomberg, however, Embracer Group today informed staff it will be closing the studio in a move the company says will affect around 200 employees. Bloomberg's sources claim some members of the Onama team will be transferred to Eidos-Montréal, although it's unclear how many employees will be left without jobs following today's news.

Blitz Bowl: Ultimate Edition Board Game Review

1 year 6 months ago

Back in 1986, designer Jervis Johnson had the bright idea of making a fantasy sports board game based on American Football, but with no-holds-barred violence. That game became Blood Bowl, and its mixture of strategy, comedy and brutality has sustained it through multiple editions into the present day. But despite its breakneck premise, it’s actually quite a ponderous game that takes a while to learn and play. Enter Blitz Bowl, a much smaller, faster game based on the same idea although mechanically it’s very different from its big sibling. Blitz Bowl: Ultimate Edition is the third edition, but can it live up to its ultimate billing?

What’s in the Box

This being a Games Workshop game, one of the primary draws are the plastic miniatures included. They compose two teams of six players each: some heroic humans and the devious, rat-like Skaven. As we’ve come to expect from the publisher the figures are top-notch, giddy with detail and dynamism. The Skaven, however, are quite fragile and even experienced modellers may break a tail or two during assembly. Care and a very sharp craft knife are needed.

Along with the figures, there are some plastic footballs and a coin and a scoring marker for each team. The play takes place on a double-sided game board, giving you a choice of pitches with various obstacles to play around. One side has a single starting space for the ball, while the other has two: a dice roll determines which one the ball pops out of.

EA Execs Feel “Really, Really Good” About Unannounced New IP, Discuss Marvel Deal & Wild Hearts

1 year 6 months ago

Today, during Electronic Arts’ quarterly financial conference call for analysts and investors, chief executive officer Andrew Wilson and chief operating officer Laura Miele talked about upcoming games.

Wilson mentioned that the unannounced “Major IP” game coming in Q4 (between January and March) is one that EA feels “really, really good” about, but they’re not ready to announce it just yet as the marketing and development teams are deciding the appropriate timing for the reveal.

Miele talked about licensed IPs in regard to the new announcement about the deal with Marvel.

She mentioned that Electronic Arts looks at the potential expansion of its community among other things when deciding what games to make. Licensed IPs are a component of expanding and diversifying the community, and casting the net wider.

The Star Wars deal built millions of players into EA’s community and the publisher realized that over 40% of those players have gone on to play other EA games.

Due to that, Electronic Arts sees adding licensed IPs to its portfolio as a “significant engagement model” for its community as it grows.

As a result, the publisher is “incredibly confident” that it’ll build “meaningful content” for its fans within the Marvel deal.

Install Windows (or whatever) with this 32GB flash drive for a fiver

1 year 6 months ago

Look, everyone needs a flash drive. These things used to be the new hotness, back before email and cloud storage made them a bit irrelevant, but it's still jolly useful to have one on hand to install (or recover) an OS, play (legally) downloaded videos on your TV or just bring your presentation in without worrying about something going wrong.

So: the SanDisk 32GB Ultra Flair flash drive is down to £5 on Amazon after a ~40% discount. If you've not got a good, fast USB drive, then why not pick this one up while it's on sale?

Pick up Intel's cheapest 12th-gen Core processor for £105

1 year 6 months ago

Wanna know something cool? You can pick up Intel's cheapest 12th-gen Core processor for £105 after a discount at CCL, with the Core i3 12100F offering incredible performance for this kind of money.

It's able to outmatch some classic great value gaming CPUs, like the Ryzen 5 3600X and Core i5 11400F, and even comes close to the powerful (and more expensive) Core i5 11600K. All this with PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 support, given the right motherboard - and this is a surprisingly great way to jump on 12th-gen, while leaving plenty of space to upgrade to a higher tier CPU down the road.

EA Says Marvel Deal Driven By Success With Star Wars

1 year 6 months ago

During EA's Q2 2023 earnings call, the company addressed the recent deal with Marvel and how the decision to enter into another partnership with Disney was driven by the success from the company's previous deal with Star Wars.

During the call, EA was asked if it could offer more details about the recently announced deal with Marvel that will see EA work on three Marvel games starting with EA Motive's Iron Man game. While EA declined to go into that much more detail, the company said that it is seeking to be a "cooperative" and creative partnership rather than a "transactional" one.

Furthermore, the decision to sign a new deal with Disney was a result of the previous Star Wars deal where EA says "over 40 percent of Star Wars players went on to play other EA games."

In 2013 EA signed a ten-year deal allowing the company to exclusively make Star Wars games for Lucasfilms. This deal resulted in moderate hits like Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2, and Star Wars: Squadrons, as well as the critical hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The latter is set to receive a sequel in 2023 titled, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

According to EA, this Star Wars deal should be considered an overall success given the interest it generated in players to play EA's other games and it looks like the publisher is hoping for a repeat with Marvel.
