Latest Call of Duty: Warzone Season Three Patch Ushers in New Mode, Weapon Changes and More

With the third season of Call of Duty: Warzone now underway, players have much to get through before the arrival of Operation Monarch in May, when Godzilla and King Kong will face off against each other in Caldera. However, before all that mayhem, there are some new and significant changes being made to the game for season three, and the latest patch notes for Call of Duty: Warzone reveal what players need to know.

There is the return of fan-favorite Iron Trials game mode for the new map, and there is a new Gulag as well as a new location called the Dig Site being added to Caldera. Of course, a new battle pass has been activated for players to chase, alongside two new Vanguard weapons in the form of the M1916 marksman rifle and the Nikita AVT assault rifle. A new Operator has also arrived in the form of Mateo Hernandez. Players who purchased the battle pass will get this new addition with two Legendary Operator Skins, the all-black Chingon outfit and the blue and orange Madcap skin.

The biggest change might just be the adjustments Raven Software has made to sniper rifles with this new Call of Duty: Warzone patch for season three. Several sniper rifles have had their effective one-shot-kill range reduced, but the likes of the HDR and 3-Line Rifle can still get the job done.

As for the playlist that will go live in the coming weeks, the first week will see Quads in Iron Trials, a 50 vs 50 Clash, Battle Royale in the Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads variety, as well as Resurgence for the same variations. The upcoming weeks are also detailed in the infographic below:

Dorfromantik review: the best strategy puzzler two years in a row

Until last year, the idea of having a 'forever game' never really clicked with me. I'm too old and thin-skinned to enjoy the competitive nature of most online FPS games, and rallying together a regular squad of buddies to tackle the world of games as a service always seemed too much like hard work. Heck, even the allure of daily challenges in some of my favourite single-player games has never quite hooked me in the same way I've seen them take hold in friends and family. But with Dorfromantik, the chill, pastoral village builder from Toukana Interactive, I finally understand the journey towards that mythic 'forever' status.

Sonic Speed Simulator review - a free, good-looking Roblox game that's fast and fun in short spins

I should come right out and say I don't know much about Roblox at all, even if it's one of the most popular game platforms in the world. But then I'm not really in its target demographic of kids under 16. From what I've gleaned, it has easy-to-learn tools that allows anyone to make a game, whether that's something of the very basic, derivative, and janky kind, or something approaching professional quality. I'm also aware of People Make Games' investigations into the platform's questionable and exploitative practices, that's enough to convince me I shouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

On the other hand, I do like Sonic the Hedgehog. So when a new game launches on Roblox that's not only starring the Blue Blur and friends but is officially licensed by Sega, then that's more than enough to raise some cautious curiosity, especially when said platform is free and accessible to anyone with a smartphone or web browser. Roblox may already be home to various other Sonic fan games, but besides being an official release, Sonic Speed Simulator is also the work of Gamefam, the first professional company to treat Roblox as a proper game development platform. The developer is also no stranger to partnerships, having collaborated with Mattel to create an open-world racing game based on Hot Wheels in 2020.

Peggle goes roguelike in Peglin

Combine the peg-pinging action of Peggle with the roguelikelike dungeon crawling of Slay The Spire and you get Peglin, a delightful game which launched into early access on Monday. Off your cute wee peglin goes on an adventure, battling baddies and claiming treasures, but damage is dealt by pling-plonging orbs down Peggle/pachinko boards and you have a bag of different orbs instead of cards. I like it, and it has a demo you can try for yourself.

PlayStation Plus Games for May 2022 Announced

Sony has revealed the PlayStation Plus games for May 2022 are FIFA 22 (PS5 & PS4), Tribes of Midgard (PS5 & PS4), and Curse of the Dead Gods (PS4).

Revealed on the PlayStation Blog, all three games will be made available at no extra cost to all PlayStation Plus subscribers on May 3.

FIFA 22 is the latest entry in EA's football series, which is now almost 'officially' the best football game on the market thanks to the pretty disastrous launch and subsequent updates to Konami's eFootball 2022.

Back to the freebie though, in IGN's 7/10 review, we said: "Microtransactions still loom large, but small iterative changes and the horsepower of new-gen consoles combine to make FIFA 22 feel like a worthwhile upgrade without needing anything revolutionary or terribly exciting from EA’s side."

Tribes of Midgard is a co-op survival game based on Norse mythology, and it's up to the player (or players) to resist the incoming invasion of Giants during Ragnarok. We also gave this one a 7/10 review, saying: "Tribes of Midgard is a hectic, exciting, Norse-flavoured action RPG that is best faced with a shield wall full of friends."

‘Dedicated Masochists’: Meet the Fans Still Spending Thousands of Hours Searching for Shiny Pokémon

Nobody asked Zetamasterx to devote a year and a half of their life to capturing Legendary Pokémon with slightly different colour variants to their regular counterparts, but once they started, it became an obsession. For the vast majority of trainers, capturing a Legendary at all is triumph enough – but there are a select few who strive for a prize much, much rarer than that.

In the Pokémon community, these toiling prospectors are known as shiny hunters – a narrow demographic of players who regularly invest hundreds, if not thousands of hours into honing their trade long after the rest of the fanbase have moved onto the inevitable next generation. What this entails is simple: In Gen 8, the most recent generation of mainline Pokémon games, every ‘mon has a 1/4,096 chance to be a different colour to the rest of its species. These odds can be increased to almost 1/100, but even those chances make it a slow process.

If you haven’t already guessed, the objective of shiny hunting is to locate and catch these extremely rare Pokémon. That’s not taking into account that Legendary Pokémon are far rarer than almost any other, meaning shiny versions are very hard to come by.

Zetamasterx collected every single shiny Legendary available in Gen 8.

Dragon Age game testers seek unionisation

A group of game testers working with BioWare on its new Dragon Age game are seeking to unionise.

The group, which is part of a contacted game services company named Keywords Studios, were recently told by that company they would need to return to office working full-time, five days a week, beginning in May (thanks, Kotaku).

In-office working - "embedded" within a developer - is one of the services which Keywords offers, and over the years the company has worked with BioWare and others to offer development support in this way.

Xbox gets a Scottish twist with its own new tartan controller

Microsoft is celebrating 20 years of Xbox in Scotland with a new partnership with Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers and Lochcarron of Scotland. The end results - Xbox's very own tartan, which is now on a controller (although I also spotted a rather dashing pair of trews, as well).

"The pattern, using the brand's iconic colours, has been endorsed by the Scottish Tartans Authority and entered into The Scottish Register of Tartans," Xbox shared yesterday. "The landmark pattern and limited-edition controllers commemorate the history of Xbox with a contemporary design created by Edinburgh-based tartan designer Gordon Nicolson, makers of the Scotland National Football Team Tartan."

Check out a video showing the making of Xbox's new tartan below, as well as a closer look at a very smartly dressed controller (which appears to be a true Scotsman, as no underwear lies between the controller and its tartan cladding - cheeky).

Reggie Fils-Aimé says he's a believer in blockchain and play-to-own technology

Reggie Fils-Aimé says he's a believer in blockchain and so-called play-to-own technology.

Speaking at last month's SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, Fils-Aimé was asked what role blockchain, crypto and play-to-earn technology had in the future of gaming (thanks, Nintendo Life).

He appeared to be quite enthusiastic about the idea: "So I'm a believer in blockchain, I think it's a really compelling technology. I'm also a believer in the concept of 'play to own' within video games, and I say this as a player where I may have invested 50 hours, 100 hours, or 300 hours in a game, and when I'm ready to move on to something else, wouldn't it be great to monetise what I've built?"

Nintendo issues Switch Sports safety warning to avoid children hitting each other

Nintendo has issued a safety warning for the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports, telling parents to accompany their children when playing the game.

The advice, posted by Nintendo's Japanese customer support Twitter account (thanks, Nintendo Life), warns that children should take care not to accidentally hit each other while playing.

Anyone playing the game should stand a good distance from their TV, the advice continued, so you do not hit the Joy-Con controller on the screen.
