Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai Manga Begins With Dai’s Roots

2 years 1 month ago

In series about young heroes with the power to save the world, things usually begin with them setting out on their journey. We might get a brief introduction to their early life before they head on their way. But it’s just that, brief. The first volume of the Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai manga is a little different. Yes, by the end of it we see Dai’s potential and watch him head out to change the world for the better. But before that, it takes time to establish who he is, how he was raised, his innocence, and his homeland. It’s especially welcome, given that Dai’s story could very well be entirely new to the reader.

As you’d expect from the title, the Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai manga is steeped in mythos inspired by the series. All of the enemies are taken directly from the games. The main villain is an ominous Dark Lord. It’s set in a fantasy world, in which the main characters fit the archetypes of “warrior” and “mage.” This also means it includes the concept that the monsters of its world aren’t necessarily “bad.” (After all, we’ve seen children tame and fight alongside them in the Dragon Quest Monsters series.) Things begin with Dai explaining how a Hero once defeated a Dark Lord and saved the world. Another consequence of that was the monsters under the villain’s control were freed, able to go to Dermline Island and live peacefully. The villain’s reach doesn’t extend there, so they’ll never have to worry about losing themselves. There, they live with a young boy named Dai. And the Grampa who told that tale? A Lump Shaman.

Create your own holes in MiniGolf Maker

2 years 1 month ago

I feel like the recent past has contained several radical takes on the sport of golf, from the barren infinity of Desert Golfing, the mad libs of What The Golf? and the post-apocalyptic storytelling of Golf Club Wasteland

By comparison, MiniGolf Maker is traditional - and yet its simplicity is extremely appealing. It's a mini golf game with a robust editor for making your own courses.

The Community Spotlight 2022.03.05

2 years 1 month ago

Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the best community-created works from the last week! With Spring right around the corner, people are having a fun time with video games again! As you might expect, Elden Ring is STILL the main talking point among the community and the staff. Speaking of which, please join the rest of the community in thanking Tamoor for what he shared during the Bombcast about the Elden Ring embargo and needing to work long hours for his review.

Some important promotions happened over at GameSpot! First, Jean-Luc Seipke, who you may have seen covering for Jan on the site before, has been promoted to the position of Senior Video Producer at GameSpot!

Second, Mat Elfring has been promoted to "Senior Entertainment Editor." You may not know Mat, but he was originally a Comic Vine community member that chased their dreams, got a job writing about comics at Comic Vine, and now is the guy who talks to you about comic book backstories on GameSpot. It's certainly what we call a "character arc." There are others of you who have gone on to do things bigger than you could have imagined when the site first started. Lest we forget, a certain moon king is now working at Hardcore Gaming 101.

Sony Celebrates Gran Turismo 7 Launch With Massive “Supercar Vending Machine” in Singapore

2 years 1 month ago

Sony Interactive Entertainment definitely loves flashy marketing, and its Asian brand isn’t an exception. The launch of Gran Turismo 7 is seeing a rather eye-catching stunt in Singapore.

If you happen to be in the bustling city-state, you can find a literal car vending machine located in the 20-story highrise building Ten Square at Selegie Road.

Created in collaboration with the local dealership Autobahn Motors, this is actually the second of its kind in the city. The first opened in 2017, and apparently, the opening of the second was the perfect chance for a marketing partnership with Sony.

You can see it in the video below.
