A Ripple in Time Pokemon Animated Short Features Time-Traveling Celebi

2 years 3 months ago

Pokemon A Ripple in Time

The Pokemon Company is collaborating with artist Daniel Arsham to host a series of exhibitions in Tokyo this year. The exhibition also comes with the new "A Ripple in Time" animated short, which shows Celebi transporting Ash and Pikachu into the far future. The full version of the animated short will appear at one of the exhibition locations in Tokyo starting February 12, 2022. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

The exhibition's core concept revolves around the fictional archaeology of Pokemon using materials like quartz crystal and bronze. Some locations will also feature bronze castings of Pokemon trading cards like Charizard and Blastoise, among others. Other locations will showcase sketches and "field research" of these crystallized Pokemon. Furthermore, the Nanzuka Underground exhibition will also sell merchandise such as crystal figures and plush.

The main attraction is the animated short, which Daniel Arsham produced in collaboration with 1997 Pokemon anime series director Kunihiko Yuyama. The animated short begins with Ash and Pikachu engaged in a battle with another trainer. When Pikachu's thunderbolt almost strikes Celebi, the mythical Pokemon uses its time-traveling ability to transport Ash and Pikachu into the future.

Hisuian Voltorb to Appear in Pokemon GO

2 years 3 months ago

Hisuian Voltorb Pokemon GO

The Hisuian Voltorb will appear in Pokemon GO starting January 30, 2022. This is the first time the Hisuian form of a Pokemon has appeared in the game, following the launch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The Hisuian Voltorb will begin spawning after the end of the Team GO Rocket Power Plant event. There is no confirmed end date. [Thanks, Serebii!]

The Hisuian form will spawn alongside the normal version of Voltorb. As in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the Hisuian form will be both an Electric and Grass type. However, players will not be able to evolve it into an Electrode. There is no indication of whether or not it will be able to evolve at a later date. Its appearance comes alongside a new Special Research task that lets players encounter the Hisuian Voltorb and catch it.

Earlier this week, Niantic added costumes for player avatars based on the protagonist's clothing in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, available to all players. Though the Hisuian Voltorb is currently the only Pokemon from Arceus to appear in Pokemon GO, Niantic has also added dozens of Pokemon from other recent titles such as Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Pokemon GO is immediately available on iOS and Android devices. The Hisuian Voltorb will start spawning in the game on January 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. local time.
