Here's What Horizon Forbidden West Looks Like on PS4 Pro

2 years 4 months ago

As Horizon Forbidden West goes gold, developer Guerrilla Games has revealed short clips of the game running on PS4 Pro. While it's hard to judge performance from such a small sample size, the signs are encouraging.

On the PS Blog, Guerrilla's Angie Smets acknowledged that all previous footage had been from the PS5 version of the game, and revealed 3 clips of the game running on last-gen hardware. You can one of those clips in the tweet below:

The clips show three separate parts of the game: Aloy walking through the Utaru tribe's Plainsong settlement, a fight against Clamberjaws in a woodland, and a separate fight against Bristlebacks featuring Aloy using multiple pieces of equipment.

Even amid Twitter and gif compression, the game appears to scale down impressively for PS4 Pro. However, Sony hasn't gone into detail on what the missing or downgraded graphical elements will be, and hasn't shown the game on a base model PS, so it remains to be seen exactly how impressive the cross-generation efforts have been.

Uncharted Devs Seem to Want to Make Another Sequel: 'It's a World We Want to See More Of'

2 years 4 months ago

Uncharted creative director Shaun Escayg has hinted that developers at Naughty Dog would like to make another sequel in the blockbuster series, saying that it's a "world we want to see more of."

As part of an interview with GamesRadar, Escayg offered fans a slight hope that perhaps there could be more to come from the Uncharted franchise when speaking about his thoughts on the topic.

"I think we can say for certain that we can never say never. Yeah. Uncharted is a franchise we love – that the studio loves. I love, and [Uncharted: The Lost Legacy director Kurt Margenau] loves. It's a world we want to see more of. So I can certainly say that," explained Escayg.

While the creative director didn't share any studio secrets, and certainly didn't confirm that a new Uncharted game is on its way, his comments will have left Uncharted fans hoping that there's a chance the series could make a return beyond remasters.

Recent reports indicated that Days Gone studio Sony Bend had at one point been working on a new Uncharted project, and rumours had circulated for some time before that about a new entry in the series. Whether those rumoured projects have continued remains unknown.

Xbox Changing How It Handles Renewals for Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold in the UK

2 years 4 months ago

Xbox is changing how it handles automatic renewals for both Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold subscriptions in the UK, after the government got involved. It's not clear if those changes will be made in other regions.

The changes by Microsoft were revealed as part of a report (spotted by Eurogamer) following an investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) into the video game sector that highlighted a number of concerns about Microsoft's online gaming services.

According to the CMA, the concerns related to Microsoft were particularly focused on the company's auto-renewal processes and revolved around several key factors - whether or not the company was clear upfront that its subscription contracts would renew, how easy it was to cancel or turn off automatic renewal, and whether people may not have realised that they were still paying for the service long after they'd stopped using it.

As per the report, the CMA has stated that Microsoft has undertaken a number of voluntary arrangements to improve its Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold auto-renewal services, which include the following changes:

Splitgate gets a map editor in launch of 'season 1'

2 years 4 months ago

When warp-tunneling multiplayer shooter Splitgate came zooming out of its beta portal, gun barrels aflame, it was joyful madness. The maps were some of the best things about it. Old-school mega-arenas adorned with portal-zappable walls that functioned as DIY shortcuts. As virtual coliseums of chaos go, they were pretty cool. Well, now you can make your own. Splitgate is launching into season 1 this week (the developers insist the last four months have been "season 0") and alongside a couple of new game modes, there's now a map creation tool.

Preview: Atelier Sophie 2 Focuses on Its Alchemy and Characters

It’s been over six years since the original Atelier Sophie debuted in Japan. Since then, four other mainline entries appeared. Simply put, a lot’s happened! Now Atelier Sophie 2 is about to appear and take things Gust’s learned to apply it to new and existing characters and a new world. The result is something in which the changes are evident, even though it might also feel a bit familiar.

As before, characters dreams from the original game are still building in Atelier Sophie 2. Sophie still wants to be as grand an alchemist of her grandmother. She wants to be licensed. Plachta, while now in a doll body due to the events of the first game, hopes for a human form again. While working toward this goal, Plachta dreamed about a mysterious tree. Sophie and her found their way to it. When they do, it looks different than it did in her mind. Upon investigating it, it pulls Plachta in. Sophie grabs her hand to save her, and the two get dragged into another realm. Said other realm being Erde Wiege. It is a dream world filled with unfamiliar characters. But it’s also one where perhaps both women could continue to work toward their goals.

The company has yet to publish the new menu and merchandise lineup. However, it has shared the key art showing characters for the upcoming collaboration. The front row showcases multiple iterations of Dante from every series title, including DmC: Devil May Cry. The art also shows different versions of Vergil, Nero, Lady, and Trish. Electronic Wireless Show podcast episode 171: the best inventories in games special

2 years 4 months ago

This week the Electronic Wireless Show podcast discusses some of our favourite (and least favourite) inventory configurations. A humble beast, the inventory, yet a feature of many games - sometimes even a necessity. Often we only notice one if it's terrible. But boy, a good inventory is worth a dozen mules. So lets talk about them today!

In other news this week, Nate thinks he has come up with an original premise for a Pixar film, only to discover he has invented Seth Rogan's nightmare film Sausage Party, and we are officially starting our campaign to get Henry 'Vitamin H' Cavill on the show. We will be mentioning him every week from now on. Plus: what we like doing on our birthdays, school plays, and pro-wrestling adaptations of Dickens.

Deflector review (early access): a chaotic roguelike with boomerangs and bugs

2 years 4 months ago

Boomerangs are cool as hell. The sleek wooden objects careen through the air in a perfect circle - in theory, at least - before returning right back to where they began in the palm of your hand. They’re something that fascinated me as a child, and 20-something years later I still don’t really know how or why they work.

Deflector is like someone taped two swords to a boomerang, Mad Max-style. How does the boomerang still operate with twin blades slashing back and forth on either end? Don’t know. How does it always circle its way back to where you’re standing after dashing around an arena filled with enemies? Not a clue.

Genshin Impact Alternate Outfits Will Be Distributed Today

2 years 4 months ago

Genshin Impact Alternate Outfits Will Be Distributed Today

The Genshin Impact alternate outfits for Amber, Jean, Mona, and Rosaria will be distributed starting January 27, 2022. People will get them for free. MiHoYo went over the process. All someone needs to do is log in between January 27, 2022 and the launch of the 2.5 update for them. They will be included via an in-game letter. However, after 2.5 they will be unlocked in a different way.

The letter with the costumes will be available for 30 days after you get it. Once you do, you can change the way they look from the character menu. On the main page there, you can press a button to choose between available outfits. Amber, Jean, Mona, and Rosaria’s original outfits and alternate costumes will all be available there when you get them. (So will any paid outfits if you have them and are available.

After 2.5, the costumes will unlock once you get the characters. Of the four characters, Amber is the only person who is earned for free. As people go through the Genshin Impact tutorial, they unlock the four-star Pyro archer. Rosaria is a four-star Cryo character who uses polearms and is available via banners. Both Jean and Mona are five-stars available all the time via Wanderlust Invocation standard and event wishes. (Jean is an Anemo swordswoman, while Mona is a Hydro catalyst-wielder.) So once people would pull one of those three from a banner for the first time, they’d get them and the extra outfit.

As with other Hololive VTuber Nendoroids, Subaru's figure will have a pedestal with her name. A small figure of the mascot-like duck Subarudo will complete the set.

It will close the pre-order session when the amount has reached the limit. The company may re-open orders at a later date, but it will also produce and deliver subsequent batches later than the initial release.

Horizon Forbidden West Has Gone Gold

Guerilla Games’ anticipated upcoming sequel is no longer in danger of any delays. The developer has today announced that Horizon Forbidden West has gone Gold, a term that was originally coined to describe the process of the final data file being ready for print on CD. Today’s digital era has slightly muddied the water on what exactly going Gold really represents (given that day one patches typically make huge changes to the “final” data file), but it does at least mean that the game will certainly be launching on Feb. 25.

The news comes by way of a Tweet from the game’s official channel, which, as you’ll see, includes a short video teaser:

Atelier Sophie 2 Is a Familiar Adventure for the Fans (Hands-On Preview)

2 years 4 months ago

Once upon a time, the Atelier series used to not get sequels bringing back the same protagonist. Apparently, Atelier Ryza 2 paved the way, and fans will soon be able to enjoy the return of another fan favorite. Sophie Neuenmuller will be back with Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream.

I got my hands on a pre-release copy of the English version of the game on PC, and it certainly feels like a treat for the fans. Sophie is definitely a beloved character among the rich cast of the Atelier series, having appeared in several games on top of the one (now two) in which she’s the main heroine.

The story starts pretty much where we had left it, with Sophie more determined than ever to take the Alchemist exam to follow in the footsteps of her grandmother and to find a way to give Plachta a human body.

Yet, things don’t go as planned and our heroine finds herself in a different world created by the goddess of dreams, separated from her friend. Though, not all the people she’ll meet will be complete strangers… in a big twist.

Horizon Forbidden West Has Gone Gold, Guerrilla Releases New Look At PS4 Gameplay

2 years 4 months ago

Horizon Forbidden West Guerilla Games Has Gone Gold

Guerilla Games has announced that Horizon Forbidden West, the upcoming post-apocalyptic sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, has gone gold. To accompany the news, the studio released some new gameplay footage and screenshots from the PlayStation 4 version of the game.

When a game goes gold, it means the version of the game being put onto discs has been finalized. However, as anyone that plays games today likely knows, Day One updates are quite a regular occurrence and while Forbidden West has gone gold, Guerilla is likely working on one for this title. That means that sure, when you pop in the disc on February 18, the game will be playable but Guerilla will likely want you to download that Day One patch for an even better launch day experience.

I’ve been helping Stray Bombay (the makers of The Anacrusis) with comms, which means I finally understand how the sausage is made. At least for our game. Of course, I also co-host Brad & Will Made a Tech Pod with someone you probably know, and have been streaming PUBG, Returnal, Inscryption, The Anacrusis, and the occasional LEGO build on Twitch. Hitman 3: Steam Owners Will Get Free Upgrades to Make Up for Shaky Launch

2 years 4 months ago

Hitman 3 Steam owners will get a free upgrade starting today to make up for the game's shaky launch.

As revealed by developer IO Interactive in a community support post, fans who purchased the game on Steam following its launch on January 20 will be entitled to a free upgrade of the game. The developer admitted in its post that Hitman 3's Steam launch didn't exactly go as planned following a flurry of fan backlash over the topic.

"We were excited to bring HITMAN 3 to Steam with new content and we knew that anticipation and excitement levels amongst our Steam players was high, especially as the game had been an Epic exclusive for a year," read a statement from the company. "Ultimately, we didn’t meet our own expectations of a launch experience and we don’t like that our Steam community is beginning their HITMAN 3 journey in this way."

"So, here’s what we’re going to do: Everyone on Steam who has already bought HITMAN 3, or anyone that buys the game through to February 19th 2022, will be granted a free upgrade. Starting on January 27th 2022, this process will begin to automatically roll out via Steam entitlements. Simply launch your Steam copy of HITMAN 3 and the new content from your free upgrade will be waiting for you to enjoy."

The specific upgrade you'll be entitled to will depend upon which version of the game you have purchased. Fans who have paid for the standard edition of Hitman 3 will automatically be upgraded to the Deluxe Edition, while those who already own the Deluxe Edition or a copy of Hitman Trilogy will gain access to the Seven Deadly Sins Collection.
