Play Resident Evil 2 And 3 Remakes In VR With New Mod, Village VR Mod In Early State

2 years 3 months ago

Capcom has returned the Resident Evil franchise to its horrifying roots in recent years (namely, Resident Evil 7 and Village), pitting players against grotesque creatures with the added heart-bursting benefits of a first-person perspective. The RE 2 and 3 Remakes are third-person experiences, but the high-quality graphics, tight action controls, and unkillable Mr. X and Nemesis create that same sense of dread that the latest entries are known for. The Remakes beg to be played in VR, and one great modder did just that.

According to Kotaku, praydog has been developing VR ports for both Remakes for quite some time. Modder praydog’s attention to detail is particularly striking as the full-motion controls make the games’ conventional weapons feel physical. Swinging the knife as rotting zombies fill the screen mimics the adrenaline-laced (and fantastic!) experience of Resident Evil 4 VR. You can even watch all the cutscenes in 3D, although this could break certain scenes in silly ways since the vanilla versions of the Remakes have fixed cameras.

Now, thanks to a new Q&A segment during an investor call, we know the team initially had even more planned for the 30th anniversary.

First reported by Sonic Stadium, Sonic Frontiers was planned as a 2021 release to coincide with the blue blur’s birthday celebration, but in the end, the team needed more time on the upcoming open-zone game

The Witcher Netflix Showcases ‘Inside Look’ at Kaer Morhen in New Featurette

2 years 3 months ago

After a two-year pause due to filming complications as a result of COVID-19, Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation returned for its anticipated second season last December. Exciting to many beyond simply the continuation of the story is that many of the episodes take place in Kaer Morhen, a dilapidated castle that is an iconic location to fans of the franchise across novels and games as the home of the witchers.

In a new featurette video published today by Netflix, the castle is introduced by the show’s writers and actors against the backdrop of some of the scenes that highlight its fantasy/gothic design.

As noted by TheWrap, the 142.4 million hours viewed was nearly three times the next most-viewed TV show, “Money Heist,” which logged 55 million hours viewed in Netflix’s weekly viewership rankings.

Still, Twinfinite wasn’t necessarily pleased with some of the decision-making behind the show’s storytelling; features editor Andrew McMahon recently wrote about his frustration with the handling of Eskel, which you can read here.

2 years 3 months ago

Update 1/3/21 12:00 p.m.: It didn't take long after posting our original story about former 343 Industries developer Aaron Linde leaving the company to find out where he's headed next. In an incredible Neon Genesis Evangelion preview gag, Linde revealed he will be joining Riot Games R&D. Mystery solved!

Original Story 1/3/21: Just a little under a month since the full release of Halo Infinite, its lead narrative designer, Aaron Linde, has revealed that he’s leaving 343 Industries.

Don’t worry, though, as it’s not a breakup – Linde is departing 343 to “pursue a new opportunity in 2022.”

As a narrative designer, Linde’s hands are all over the story within Halo Infinite but it’s not just limited to cutscenes, main story missions, and the like. A quick scroll through his Twitter reveals that he also worked on one of the best parts of Halo Infinite: the things the Grunt enemies say, both while on ground killing time and while flying through the air after being punted high by a Master Chief-thrown grenade.

2 years 3 months ago

Elden Ring is right around the corner, due out on February 25, and if Game Informer editor Dan Tack’s latest preview with the From Software title is any indication, we’re in for a treat

Last month, famed author George R.R. Martin, who collaborated with From Software to create the foundation and lore of Elden Ring, wrote that the game looks “incredible” in a blog post. Thanks to a new Edge Magazine interview with Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki, it seems the recent Bluepoint Games remake of Demon’s Souls on PlayStation 5 helped make From’s latest look great.

Mr. Bean Fits Surprisingly Well Into Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City

2 years 3 months ago

For almost three decades, Rowan Atkinson’s Mr. Bean has stood the test of time as one of the most hilarious characters in all of entertainment. Whether it’s via starring in his own sitcom or movies or appearing as comic relief in sketches and other forms of media, this tweed jacket goof will always be a fan favorite, which is why it isn’t surprising that someone went out of their way to place the character in Cyberpunk 2077.

As you can see in the video below, Youtuber eli_handle_b.wav showed exactly what it would look like if Mr. Bean had full reign exploring Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City. The video uses some of Bean’s best bits and superimposes them into scenes and locations from the game flawlessly, resulting in another perfect guest appearance for the character.

This is the second such viral video that eli_handle_b.wav is responsible for in recent memory, as the upcoming meme Youtuber also made a hilarious Austin Powers and Mass Effect crossover as well.

BioShock Creator Ken Levine's Next Game Is Reportedly in 'Development Hell'

2 years 3 months ago

Ken Levine, the acclaimed video game developer behind the BioShock series, began work on his next project with his studio Ghost Story Games around eight years ago. Since then, according to reports from Bloomberg, the game has allegedly entered "development hell" and has seen multiple reboots and changes in direction.

Levine's current project at Ghost Story, which has yet to be officially announced or given a firm release date, has taken much longer than his previous works, including the year-and-a-half it took to develop System Shock 2 and the roughly five years it took to finish BioShock. Obviously, video game development is immensely challenging and each project comes with its own unique challenges, but 15 current and former employees of Ghost Story Games say this is something more - and part of it is due to Levine's leadership style.

Following the closure of Irrational Games in 2014 and the start of Ghost Story Games, the new team began working on a premise Levine was calling a "narrative LEGO." He wanted to create a game that would make sure every person's experience was a unique one. This meant characters reacting differently based on the player's actions and different scenarios playing out each time depending on what was chosen before.

New Report Details BioShock Creator’s New Game And The Rocky Development, Employee Burnout, And Numerous Content Cuts Surrounding It

2 years 3 months ago

Ken Levine, the creator of the famed BioShock series, put out his last game, BioShock Infinite, in 2013. Shortly after, he closed the doors of Irrational Games, a studio he started in 1997. Most of the staff was let go, on short notice no less, but a handful of developers were hand-picked to join his new smaller studio startup, Ghost Story Games.

That new studio, still under the helm of 2K and parent company Take-Two Interactive, began work on a new game – it’s that narrative Legos one Levine talked about years and years ago – in 2014. Now, eight years later, not a trace of that game has been seen by the public and a new report from Bloomberg reveals why.

Halo Infinite Lead Narrative Designer Leaves 343 Industries and Joins Riot Games

2 years 3 months ago

In what might be one of the most amusing "I got a new job" posts ever, Halo Infinite lead narrative designer Aaron Linde has announced that he's leaving 343 Industries and joining Riot Games.

Linde announced the news via Twitter, in a tongue-in-cheek video riffing on the "on the next episode" bookends of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Check it out below.

"Bittersweet news to report: I'm departing 343 Industries to pursue a new opportunity in 2022," Linde said in subsequent tweets. "It was a terrifically difficult decision; Halo Infinite will remain one of the proudest achievements of my career for the rest of my life. I'm so grateful to have been a part of it. I want to thank my dear colleagues at 343 for making the best game I've ever worked on, our incredible voice cast for elevating our work in every single line delivery, and our players for joining us on this wild-ass journey. You made 2021 an incredibly special year for me."

Linde is joining Riot Games' research and development division, where the company workshops new game ideas. Riot recently released two new games late last year (The Ruined King and Hextech Mayhem) and similarly revealed future projects like Conv/rgence and Song of Nunu.

Muv-Luv Extra/Unlimited Confirmed for Spring 2022 Release on iOS & Android

2 years 3 months ago

Today Muv-Luv publisher aNCHOR reached out with a press release to announce a release window for the mobile release of the original visual novel.

Apparently, this time around the title will spell Muv-Luv Extra/Unlimited, even if this is just for clarity, as the original “Muv-Luv” release always included the first two visual novels of the trilogy. It’ll launch in spring 2022 for both iOS and Android.

Originally released in 2003 by legendary developer âge as an adult game (with rather limited adult elements that have faded away with the console releases), Muv-Luv Extra and Unlimited represent the beginning and middle chapter of what is considered by many the best visual novel series of all times.

At the moment, the third chapter of the series, Muv-Luv Alternative, doesn’t yet have a release window for mobile platforms.

Of course, if you don’t want to wait, the whole trilogy (alongside a bunch of other titles from the series) is available on Steam. In the past, it has been published on PS Vita, PS2, and Xbox 360, even if only the Vita version made it to the west on consoles.

If you’re interested in the Muv-Luv series in general, you should definitely read our recent interview with production manager Sho Hamanaga and brand producer Kazutoshi “Tororo” Matsumura, in which he talked about Project Mikhail: A Muv-Luv War Story and the plans for the rest of the franchise.

Halo Infinite Lead Narrative Designer Aaron Linde Joins Riot Games

2 years 3 months ago

Earlier today, Halo Infinite lead narrative designer Aaron Linde revealed that he would be leaving 343 Industries for a position at Riot Games. As you can see below, the announcement was made in a rather amusing way, as he used beloved anime Neon Genesis Evangelion’s classic “on the next episode” bookend to reveal where life was taking him next.

Alongside the clever “next time on” anime announcement of his departure, Linde also posted the following statement regarding his choice to move on to Riot Games.

“Bittersweet news to report: I’m departing 343 Industries to pursue a new opportunity in 2022. It was a terrifically difficult decision; Halo Infinite will remain one of the proudest achievements of my career for the rest of my life.

Space Force Season 2 Announced for February With Official Screenshots

2 years 3 months ago

Earlier today, Netflix confirmed, via Deadline, that the second season of Space Force is officially heading to Netflix on Feb. 18, 2022. The next installment in the series is set to feature seven episodes, picking up right where the first season left off.

While co-creator and showrunner Greg Daniels is set to return for season 2 of Space Force, it was also revealed earlier this year that Norm Hiscock (Parks & Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) has joined Daniels as co-showrunner. Another minor change is that production has moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver.

If you’re unfamiliar with Space Force, you can enjoy and a brief official description below, as well as some official preview images for season 2.

A decorated pilot with dreams of running the Air Force, four-star general Mark R. Naird (Steve Carell) is thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force. Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and “Spacemen” are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total space dominance.

From co-creators Carell and Greg Daniels (The Office), SPACE FORCE is a new kind of workplace comedy, where the stakes are sky high and the ambitions even higher. John Malkovich, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Ben Schwartz also star, alongside co-stars Lisa Kudrow, Jimmy O. Yang, Noah Emmerich, Alex Sparrow and Don Lake. Howard Klein/3Arts (The Office) serves as executive producer, with Daniels as showrunner.

Mortal Kombat 11 and Final Fantasy 12 Lead January 2022's PlayStation Now Games

2 years 3 months ago

PlayStation has announced six new games for PlayStation Now, including Mortal Kombat 11 and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. The games will join PS Now's library tomorrow, January 4, and the full list of additions is as follows:

  • Mortal Kombat 11
  • Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
  • Fury Unleashed
  • Unturned
  • Super Time Force Ultra
  • Kerbal Space Program: Enhanced Edition

Mortal Kombat 11 released back in 2019, and we called it amazing in our Mortal Kombat 11 review, saying, "It’s a rare fighting game that hits just about every note as strongly as Mortal Kombat 11 does."

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is a well-received entry in Square Enix's long-running RPG juggernaut franchise. This title is known for its gambit system, that allows the player to better control their characters' moves in combat. We called the game great, saying, "Final Fantasy XII’s relatable roleplaying adventure has aged remarkably well, and The Zodiac Age remaster improves it further in meaningful ways."

Resident Evil 2 & 3 Look Even More Terrifying in VR

2 years 3 months ago

The modding community for Resident Evil 2 and 3 has been going strong since the release of the remakes, and this latest VR mod from praydog might be one of the most impressive ones we’ve seen thus far. The mod has just been released on Github, allowing players to experience the RPD and Raccoon City itself in immersive VR.

You can check out a video down below, showing off the mod in action in RE2:

Praydog notes that players can also view the in-game cutscenes in this mode, but warns that it might break the immersion a little as you’ll probably end up seeing things you weren’t meant to see in the original games. That aside, though, the mod certainly looks impressive and a lot more immersive as you’re wandering around the levels and trying to avoid zombies.

Resident Evil 2 and 3 are now available on consoles and PC.

Dying Light 2 Boasts Over 500 Pieces of Unique Gear for Players

2 years 3 months ago

In just a month’s time, players can look forward to dodging the undead and executing crazy parkour moves when Techland’s Dying Light 2 Stay Human finally releases. Following the success of the first game, anticipation is high, and everything is seemingly positioned for the sequel to do well. One of the key areas that players will be looking out for is gear, and according to the team, there will be plenty of unique items to gather in Dying Light 2.

This piece of information comes via Twitter, with Techland sharing that there are over 500 different items that can be equipped in the game. This can range from weapons, armor in the form of clothes, gloves, and even shoes. They are also likely to come with different properties, which plays nicely into different playstyles to suit different players.

If you are the kind of player who appreciates different loadouts, then the options for gear in Dying Light 2 will make you very happy. Be it against the human foes or those of the living dead variety, there is going to be different ways to make you a more efficient killing machine, or one adept at avoiding damage and moving around like the parkour master you are.

This initial wave of gear may also be bolstered if Techland remains committed to Dying Light 2 like it was to the first game. Needless to say, the more fun players are having, the better it will be for the game and its community. Your journey into Dying Light 2 begins this February 4 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

New Screenshots Show Off More of Haunted Chocolatier

2 years 3 months ago

Coming via Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe/Eric Barone, Haunted Chocolatier is the next big game that fans of the farming and life sim genre will be looking forward to. After its announcement about two months or so ago, Barone has shared some new screenshots over the last week for Haunted Chocolatier as an update, with further hints as to how the game will function.

The screenshots show off a few things, one being that spirits seem to be of help when creating your chocolate, with another showing a school bus that has been transformed into a makeshift garden. The last screenshot shows off an imposing structure amid snowy conditions.

Based on this new update and the reveal trailer for Haunted Chocolatier, the spirits floating about will be key to your success both on the shopfront as well as behind the scenes. Some experimentation will also likely happen if you are searching for the best flavors.

In addition, Barone also shared some character portraits for the weaponsmith Burk, who appeared in the reveal trailer as well. Of course, with the game still in active development, this can all change in an instant. Fans should continue to look out for more information as Barone will share more along the development journey.

As expected, there is still no set release date for Haunted Chocolatier.

Off Topic: Hedra's astonishing page layouts revel in their giddy sense of invention

2 years 3 months ago

My copy of Hedra is a wonderfully odd thing. It's tabloid size, and it's printed on newspaper and has no staples. It feels a bit like an old student magazine. Inside, it is sheer poise and artistry and imagination.

I first read about Hedra in a Polygon article back in 2020. A one-shot comic book with an astonishing visual conceit: each page is based around an arrangement of 35 panels - five by seven. Wordlessly, these panels come together to tell a story that spans the galaxy.
