What's In The Fortnite Item Shop - October 30, 2021: Frankenstein's Bride Skin Debuts

2 years 6 months ago

With Halloween coming up this weekend, the Fortnite Item Shop today features the final new skin for October. After a busy run of at least one new skin or style every day this month, the spooky season is set to close out with a classic character reborn in a modern image. Here's what's in the Fortnite Item Shop for October 30, 2021.

The marquee new addition is the Frankenstein's Bride skin, though you may not spot her right away. Instead of her traditional black and white hairdo that would rival Marge Simpson's beehive in height, the Bride has been reborn as part of a new collaboration between Fortnite and Universal Monsters.

Earlier this week, we shared the reveal of We Will Be Monsters, a new animated limited series starring the famous movie monsters who have each been given complete makeovers to celebrate a more diverse take on the timeless characters. The first episode is already available now within Fortnite's horror movie festival, Shortnitemares, but you can grab the reborn Bride even if you don't attend the show. She'll cost you 1,200 V-Bucks, though contains no additional cosmetics other than an alternate style that allows for her hood to be worn rather than left hanging on her shoulders.

Darkest Dungeon 2 Act 1 Boss Guide - How To Beat The Shackled Brain

2 years 6 months ago

The journey to defeat evil in Darkest Dungeon II seems to be as much an interior battle as an exterior one. You not only need to fight off hideous cosmic horrors, but keep the minds of your heroes from breaking as they succumb to the horror and dispair all around them. The metaphor of fighting internal evil starts with the name of Act 1, Denial, and ends with its final boss: a giant brain literally covered in chains.

Defeating the boss--or rather, the four evil, magical padlocks covering it--is tough, mostly because of the special abilities the locks bring to bear against your team. They also have big health pools that can make whittling them down pretty difficult. Knowing where to focus your efforts and with what attacks, however, can go a long way, as can managing your team's Stress levels to keep them in fighting shape.

Here's everything you need to know to defeat the Brain and complete Act 1. If you want more on how to survive your runs, check out our Darkest Dungeon II beginner's guide.

2 years 6 months ago

Note: This article is, quite obviously, full of spoilers for Inscryption. You should absolutely finish the game on your own first before reading further.

There's a lot more to Inscryption than first meets the eye. When you start the game, you find yourself in a mysterious cabin, forced to play a deck-building card game with a shadowy figure. Once you've made it to the end, you might still find yourself confused about what's going on with the game's plot--lots of hints and tidbits are hidden by secrets you'll have to uncover, and there's actually a whole ongoing alternate reality game outside of Inscryption that players are still trying to puzzle out.

Forza Horizon 5 Free Car Celebrates Dia De Muertos

2 years 6 months ago

When Forza Horizon 5 releases on Xbox and PC platforms in just a few days, series veterans will know to expect a bevy of free in-game rewards from the always-generous series. Among them will be a new Dia de Muertos livery decorating one of the most beloved American-made cars in the world, the Corvette.

Xbox teamed up with actor Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai, Parenthood) to design the special livery that celebrates the holiday of Mexican origin which gives the living a period to reflect on their lost loved ones. In Forza Horizon 5, the holiday's traditionally vibrant colors and iconography can be seen from fender to bumper on the 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray.

The car will be given to all Forza Horizon 5 players sometime after the game's global launch on November 9. For those still playing Forza Horizon 4 in the meantime, the car is already available as a free gift. In both cases, players need only to unlock the first Player House and check their in-game messages before the end of the calendar year to claim their gift.

The Dia de Muertos free car will feature symbols such as marigold flowers and hummingbirds.

Born in Los Angeles, Maridueña drew on his family's tradition and captured Dia de Muertos in the car's bright orange and yellow base colors, accented by cooler purples and magentas. Stretching across the side is a dark hummingbird, a symbol of the bittersweet day of remembrance, much like the marigold flowers that appear all over the sports car.

Valorant Episode 3, Act 3's New Agent Is Chamber, A Sentinel Character With A Powerful Sniper Rifle

2 years 6 months ago

Riot has revealed the next playable agent for Valorant: Chamber, a sentinel character. Chamber got a new cinematic trailer too, and his abilities have been revealed as well. As a sentinel character, Chamber is adept at locking down a zone for his teammates, utilizing his abilities to slow down targets long enough to deal damage with his unique heavy pistol and sniper rifle. Sometimes the best defense is a powerful offense.

Chamber's abilities are listed below. It will be interesting to see how Chamber impacts the in-match meta, given that his Headhunter and Tour de Force abilities mean that he doesn't necessarily have to spend too many credits towards purchasing weapons.

Chamber's Abilities

  • Ability 1: Trademark - Place a trap that scans for enemies. When a visible enemy comes in range, the trap counts down and then destabilizes the terrain around them, creating a lingering field that slows players caught inside of it.
  • Ability 2: Headhunter - Activate to equip a heavy pistol. Alt fire with the pistol equipped to aim down sights.
  • Ability 3: Rendezvous - Place two teleport anchors. While on the ground and in range of an anchor, reactivate to quickly teleport to the other anchor. Anchors can be picked up to be redeployed.
  • Ultimate Ability: Tour de Force - Activate to summon a custom sniper rifle that will kill an enemy with any direct hit. Killing an enemy creates a lingering field that slows players caught inside of it.

Chamber joins Valorant's roster on November 16. He'll be included within Patch 3.10, which is scheduled to go live on November 16, following the start of Valorant Episode 3, Act 3 on November 2. Episode 3, Act 3 adds a new battle pass to Valorant.

We weren't quite as high on the game as some others, but ours is just one review of many that tell the story of what will surely be one of Nintendo's biggest games of the holiday season, if only because it's a quieter year for the publisher.

Nintendo Confirms It's Closing Its Northern California And Toronto Offices

2 years 6 months ago

Nintendo is shuttering its offices in Redwood City, California and Toronto, Ontario — a move that will reportedly affect more than 100 employees. The decision coincides with the reported resignation of Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Nick Chavez, who will be leaving Nintendo to join Kentucky Fried Chicken.

First reported by Kotaku, Nintendo of America confirmed that the offices would be closing in a statement to IGN.

"Nintendo of America headquarters are in Redmond, WA, and Vancouver, BC. We are moving more of our employees and operations into those headquarters and will be closing small satellite offices in Toronto, ON, and Redwood City, CA, over time," the statement says.

It continues, "Devon Pritchard, Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and Publisher Relations for Nintendo of America (NOA), will assume interim leadership of Sales, Marketing and Communications following the departure of Nick Chavez. Ms. Pritchard will oversee strategy and execution of sales, marketing and communications across the U.S. and Canada."

According to Kotaku, staff were reportedly "upset" by the decision to close the Redwood City office.

Until their closure, the Redwood City and Toronto locations were satellite offices that primarily housed Nintendo's sales and marketing teams. IGN was in the Redwood City office last month to see the Switch OLED and play Metroid Dread, and the location was almost totally empty.

Like many other companies, Nintendo has had to scramble to adapt to new work from home protocols and other issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. It appears that this is an attempt to consolidate its physical offices as the pandemic wears on.

When did horror games become team sports?

2 years 6 months ago

By the time you read this I'll be playing Back 4 Blood, gunning down hordes of the undead until viscera and gore cake my player’s clothes, and my eyes become infinite pools of horror that have seen more than enough death for one lifetime. Or perhaps I’ll be creeping around a haunted house in Phasmophobia, my smudge stick in-hand and a cavalcade of petrified friends whimpering down their mics. Maybe I’ll be running from Pyramid Head in Dead By Daylight with my pals in tow. A thought has been brewing in the cold recesses of my mind for a while now, and it is simply this: when did horror become a team game?
