2 years 6 months ago

A few months have passed since Square Enix announced the new mobile game Echoes of Mana, and they revealed a new trailer today.

The new trailer showcases the gameplay, on top of providing a look at the characters in action. Since this is an all-star game including characters from all Mana games (on top of new ones), they should prove familiar to fans of the series.

You can watch it below.

Echoes of Mana (in Japanese the title is Seiken Densetsu: Echoes of Mana) is coming in spring 2022. We already know that it’ll also arrive in the west.

If you’re not into mobile games, we know that Square Enix is working on a new mainline Mana title, but we don’t really know anything about it.

On top of that, an anime version of Legend of Mana titled Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal is being developed by Warner Bros. Japan.

It appears that the future is bright for the Mana series, and we’ll keep you posted on any news as soon as it’ll be shared.

New World: Amazon Has Doubled Servers, Asks New Players to Join Less Popular Worlds

2 years 6 months ago

Since its launch on Tuesday, Amazon's MMORPG New World has seen quite literally overwhelming popularity. Despite having doubled server numbers since release, the publisher is now asking for new fans logging into the game for the first time to find and join low-capacity servers in the game while it looks to cut down on huge queue times.

As shared in an update on Twitter (below), the development team spoke further about how players could avoid New World's existing queue times – primarily, that's done by choosing to become part of less popular server, rather than jumping into an already-packed world and waiting to get in.

"Our team has been working around the clock to add as many servers as we can and will continue to do so until we stabilize wait times," says Amazon. "While we do that work, there are options to get into the game quickly. If you are a player logging in for the first time, forty percent of our live servers have low or no wait times. We encourage you to seek those servers out and get playing."

Konami Reportedly Working on Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill Games

2 years 6 months ago

Konami is reportedly working on games in the Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill series, with both internal and external studios attached.

Anonymous publishing sources told VGC that Konami is refocusing on developing games within its best-loved series. Per those same sources, the first of those games will be a "reimagining" of Castlevania being developed primarily by internal Konami studios.

The report adds that Konami is planning remasters of the original Metal Gear Solid games for new consoles, as well as a potential full remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Many have speculated that remake specialist Bluepoint would work on an MGS remake, but VGC's sources say it is being handled by Singaporean studio Virtuos (which previously worked on the Switch port of Dark Souls Remastered among other projects).

Halo Infinite's performance modes impress on Series X and One X

2 years 6 months ago

Halo Infinite's latest technical tests are in full flight. Last weekend, the action kicked off with the trio of maps we saw in the initial preview, backed by new game maps, offline training options and the surprise debut of a new 'Behemoth' map. The testing continues this weekend, and the arrival of big team battles is enticing. Based on what we played, the console versions are looking more impressive overall - and there's good news in terms of improvements to the game's performance modes on Xbox Series X and, perhaps surprisingly, Xbox One X.

However, the truth is that for the most part, the technical make-up of Halo Infinite is mostly unchanged from the game's multiplayer test debut. So, to recap, Xbox One S is clearly the most challenged version. It attempts to run at 1080p but has aggressive dynamic resolution scaling, independently shifting pixel counts on both the horizontal and vertical resolutions. This can look rather rough, a situation not helped by a 30fps cap that sees new frames delivered unevenly, adding extra choppiness. However, it is Halo Infinite, it is playable and while you'll be disadvantaged playing against Xbox users on any other console, it is still enjoyable.

The Forza Horizon 5 PC specs are pretty steep, huh

2 years 6 months ago

The Forza Horizon 5 PC system requirements are out in full, and hoo boy, are you gonna need the best graphics cards to max it out. Revealed in a blog post, the new specs both update the previously listed Minimum requirements on Steam, and include an “Ideal” tier on top of the Recommended requirements. This doesn’t specify a particular resolution, but does ask for either an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon Radeon RX 6800 XT as the GPU – two of the most powerful, expensive, difficult to buy graphics cards on the market.

Svoboda 1945: Liberation is all the better for its absence of drama

2 years 6 months ago

I accepted long ago that If the yoof ever do the right thing, I'll probably be dragged out into the street and shot along with all the other old bastards, despite hating them just as much.

That's sort of what Svoboda 1945 Colon Liberation is about. Dynamics like that happen, especially as fascists and collaborators lie and deny everything, so there'll always be collateral in the wake of revenge on a large enough scale.

Running an eldritch plant shop in Strange Horticulture is everything I want in life

2 years 6 months ago

I immediately fell in love with Strange Horticulture when I played the demo, and now I've had a few hours with a longer, more polished preview build I am even more in loverer. I do not understand why this is not everyone's most anticipated game ever. Imagine if all the horrible shouting griefers playing war games put down their weapons and picked up a strange plant and a taxonomic tome. What a world that would be! Certainly a world with more plant shops, anyway, though probably not (m)any as strange as Strange Horticulture.

You inherit this shop, along with its secrets, a folding map of the area to go exploring, and shelves of odd plant specimins. Sometimes it is raining. It is a real October vibe. There is a strange mystery, involving cultist and murder - a stranger in a beautiful jade mask comes to the shop, sometimes, as well as the detective struggling to solve a number of troubling murders in the area. But what care I for that? I am deep role-playing as a horticulturist.

Stranger Of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is coming March 18th

2 years 6 months ago

Square Enix today announced a release date of March 18th, 2022 for Stranger Of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, the curious action-RPG spin-off made by the studio behind Nioh, Team Ninja. A new trailer is here too and I have to say it looks more Final Fantasy-y and less less ha-ha-hilariously edgy than June's announcement trailer. It still looks plenty edgy, mind: watch out for the poor wee cactrot which gets... turned into a blood crystal and exploded?

Forspoken Devs Talk About Frey’s Personality, Powers, & Much More

2 years 6 months ago

During the Tokyo Game Show earlier today, Forspoken Co-Director Takefumi Terada and Creative Producer Raio Mitsuno both sat down to talk about their upcoming action RPG. In the interview, the Luminous Productions developers detail plenty of information about the game’s world, characters, and magic system, including a lot of background on the game’s protagonist Frey.

Played by Ella Balinska, Frey Holland is a smart, but slightly immature 20-year old woman that lives in New York during the events of Forspoken. Due to a difficult upbringing, she doesn’t trust the world much at all and tends to use sarcasm and humor to deflect attention from her own vulnerability.

When she is one day transported into a mysterious world, called Athia, Frey finds that she not only has powers but that a talking magical bracelet, named Cuff, is attached to her arm. Together, the two beings must work together to help get Frey home.

While Mitsuno stated it’ll be a bit longer until more information can be revealed about Cuff, he did explain that the bracelet’s relationship with Frey will be an interesting and important one.

Cuff is actually very important to the story, as it guides the player and Frey to their next destination. What is interesting is that Cuff and Frey are two peas in a pod.

They are both extremely blunt and will say whatever they think. This means the two of them are constantly bickering and I think that is one of the game’s highlights.

Forspoken Creative Producer Raio Mitsuno

The Forspoken Creative Producer ended this question by stating that both Frey and Cuff will have a lot of lines of dialogue. In fact, conversations will even spill over into battle, resulting in some pretty chaotic conversations.

Dungeon Encounters Revealed at Square Enix Presents TGS 2021

2 years 6 months ago

Earlier today during the Square Enix Presents Tokyo Game Show 2021 stream, the dungeon-crawling title Dungeon Encounters was revealed. This is the first game that Director Hiroyuki Ito (FFVI, IX, XII) will be heading up in quite a few years.

Dungeon Encounters appears to have a fairly simplistic aesthetic with a flat, almost textureless ground that a 3D character moves through. Each square space in a dungeon is blank until the player character takes a step there and then it fills in the space.

Besides just moving in straight lines, it looks like there will also be abilities in Dungeon Encounters that let your character move to nearby paths that are adjacent or on a diagonal. But there are plenty of pitfalls and enemies to get in the way while traversing the dungeons.

The battle system appears to be straightforward. On either side of the screen, there are portraits of your party and enemies. In the display, you can see levels and HP meters, but there are no animated enemies or characters. The only battle animations are from attacks by you or your enemies.

Throughout the trailer, there were multiple classical music arrangements played on electric guitar. However, there’s no indication that any of the music in the trailer will be in the game at all.

You can pick up Dungeon Encounters when it releases very soon for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) on Oct. 14. And don’t forget to check out the official reveal trailer for Dungeon Encounters down below.

New Extended Trailer for Triangle Strategy Highlights Characters and Convictions

2 years 6 months ago

Today during the Tokyo Game Show 2021 presentation, we got a look at a new, extended trailer for the upcoming tactical RPG from Square Enix, Triangle Strategy.

The trailer shows us that 30 years have passed since the Saltiron War ravaged the land of Norzelia. Three nations enjoyed a brief moment of peace.

We meet Serenoa Wolffort, a young lord of one of Glenbrook’s high houses as well as Frederica, a lady of Aesfrost. The two are engaged to be married, though their nations once again find themselves in war with each other.

We’re also introduced to characters such as armmaster Erador Ballentine of House Wolffort, spy Anna Pascal of House Wolffort, kingsguard Hughette Bucklar of Kingdom of Glenbrook, and tutor Geela Breisse of Aesfrost.

The trailer emphasizes that the convictions of these characters will shape the battles that lie ahead, using their abilities to gain victory.

Triangle Strategy will feature branching paths where your choices and actions determine your conviction, affecting the fate of you and your allies.

Finally, the trailer shows off a collector’s pack that will be able to be preordered on the official Square Enix store. It includes a metallic nano puzzle to represent the scales of conviction, transparent playing cards with pixel character art, a four-disc soundtrack, and a deluxe handkerchief.

Last week during a Nintendo Direct, we learned that the developers of Triangle Strategy made changes to the game based on a demo and player feedback from earlier in the year, with improvements such as difficulty selection and improved on-screen visuals.

Sega's Mysterious RPG Is Sin Chronicle

2 years 6 months ago

After teasing the game for some time, Sega has revealed its new mobile RPG, Sin Chronicle – a game based on player decisions that can only ever be made once.

The centerpiece of Sega's Tokyo Game Show 2021 showcase – a game teased ahead of time as a "new RPG" emphasizing player choice and unique experiences – Sin Chronicle is a mobile RPG for iOS and Android devices. It's is scheduled to launch on December 15 in Japan as a free download with in-app purchases. Pre-registration and closed beta registration has already begun. We've not yet heard word about a western release.

General director Jun Matsunaga introduced the title as a "successor, not a sequel" to Chain Chronicle, a mobile RPG which launched in 2013 and later came to PlayStation Vita. He explained that this new game would be accessible even to players who did not experience that game, which was translated and launched overseas, but the global version shut down in 2016.

Matsunaga's main selling point for Sin Chronicle is that this game rests on decisions that the player must make. He stressed that all the choices were one-time only, as all selections are saved on the server so players cannot go back and undo actions already taken. He promised that every chapter, which could take 10 hours to complete, would end with an "ultimate choice."

Forspoken Developers Discuss Magic Parkour System and More - Tokyo Game Show 2021

2 years 6 months ago

The team behind upcoming open world RPG Forspoken has discussed a number of details about the game, including its spells, antagonists, and 'magic parkour'.

During an extended special showcase as part of Tokyo Game Show 2021, co-director Takefumi Terada and creative producer Raio Mitsuno shed a little more light on the game. Forspoken centers around the main character Frey, a young woman who falls through a portal and ends up in the strange land of Athia, and the adventures she embarks on in order to get home.

As already seen in trailers for the game, Frey can wield magic, and Terada mentioned that her learning to use magical abilities is a big part of the story. As you'd expect after seeing the trailers, magic will also be central to Forspoken’s combat system. Frey can use various spells to attack enemies or set traps, among other things. In the game's trailer, she's seen setting off an explosive spell on the floor in one scene and encasing an enemy in a ball of water in another.

There will be a vast array of spells to learn and many ways to make them stronger. "Our goal was to allow players to learn a wide variety of spells," Terada said. He went on to say the game was designed to encourage players to experiment with various types of magic.
