Playable Protoype Of Cancelled Dreamcast Castlevania 3D Platformer SeeminglyFound

3 years 1 month ago
A playable prototype of a cancelled Dreamcast Castlevania 3D platformer has seemingly been found. As reported by Polygon, a YouTube video titled Castlevania Resurrection Exists has surfaced, showing a user booting and playing what appears to be an early prototype of the cancelled late '90s project. According to Dreamcast preservationists, the build comes from before E3 1999 and features five 3D environments and a boss fight. You can read more about the game on Unseen64, which explains how it was cancelled due to "disagreements between the Japanese and American Konami teams." It would have been set in 1666 and featured Sonia Belmont (from Castlevania Legends) meeting new character Victor Belmont (who would later appear in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2). [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2013/06/06/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-2-interview"] The anonymous owner boots the game from a disc marked "Sega confidential", dated 1999, and reading 'Castlevania Resurrection' in handwritten text. The owner then shows a number of levels from a "section select" developer menu, including Logo, Title, Courtyard, Stairs, Hall, Corridor and Chapel. Movement appears intact as ghostly figures follow Sonia around a lava pit and a spooky chapel. If legitimate, it's a fascinating glimpse into a promising looking game that was never made, an all-too-common story in the games industry.

Valheim Player Recreates Dragonreach From Skyrim In-Game

3 years 1 month ago

Valheim is a Viking-inspired survival game that allows players to craft to their heart's content while battling it out with various creatures littered throughout the stunningly beautiful open world. The crafting in-game is incredible and has inspired some amazing creations from Valheim players. We've previously shared how one player faithfully recreated Whiterun from Skyrim in-game (and Elder Scrolls as a franchise); now another is taking on the area of Dragonreach.

Reddit user u/ItsReallyOnlyBryce took to the forums to share quite a few incredible screenshots of their recreation with the help of this Dragonreach build share mod right here (it's free). It's hard not to be a little impressed with the work, mod or not. The creator responded to their own thread saying that this fan-driven project has only recently finished, clocking in at 50 hours spent making this crossover a reality.

They also shared a video of the completed Dragonreach recreation in Valhein, which you can see below:

Developers reveal the best Easter eggs they've hidden in games

3 years 1 month ago

Easter has come and gone now, and here in the RPS treehouse we lounge with bellies full of chocolate chatting about our favourite little surprises in games. Alice O has already asked you, dear reader, what's your favourite video game Easter egg? It appears some game developers have been pondering a similar question on Twitter, and revealing the best Easter eggs they've hidden in their games - from hiding games within games, to live coding an RPG to rewriting an RPG's script live to mess with streamers.

Turbo Overkill is an FPS where you have a chainsaw for a leg

3 years 1 month ago

Ever since I carved up aliens in Gears Of War with my gun-that-also-has-a-chainsaw-built-into-it, I've always thought more video games could use inventive saw contraptions. That's why Turbo Overkill has me very excited, as it's an FPS where the protagonist has a chainsaw for a leg. And the gifs which show it off? Yeah, it's a thumbs-up from me.

Monster Hunter Rise Review – Going Above and Beyond

3 years 1 month ago

Monster Hunter Rise on Switch

About 10 hours into my first playthrough of Monster Hunter Rise, I put it down, hopped on to a little-known website you might’ve heard of called Amazon.com, and bought the Hori Split Pad Pro controller for the Switch. Enough, I thought, was enough. As great as the Joy-Cons are, they just weren’t cutting it for portable play, especially for an action-oriented game like Monster Hunter Rise that you could play for hours.

I was so desperate for a comfortable way to play this game in bed, on the couch, at the dinner table without my hands cramping up that I dropped $50 on a third-party console add-on without any hesitation. That’s probably the highest order of praise I can offer up to Monster Hunter Rise: I can’t get enough of it, and it’s one of my favorite portable gameplay experiences in recent memory.

After the success of Monster Hunter: World, it was hard to imagine that a Switch-exclusive (at least for now) MonHun game would be able to top the level of detail that went into its predecessor. But as you’ll soon find out, World and Rise both seek to fulfill very different purposes. Whereas World was all about level exploration and learning about endemic life in their natural habitats, Rise feels much more video game-y by comparison. It’s not quite as immersive, but it’s a hell of a lot more fun to play.

Solar Opposites’ The Wall Continues to Be the Best Show Within a Show

3 years 1 month ago

Ever since it debuted on Hulu last year, Solar Opposites has been pegged as Rick and Morty 2.0. And while that branding does make sense, as the show features similar humor, characters, and writing and is even created and voiced by the same people, it has a lot of unique elements to it as well.

As of the second season, Solar Opposites has really come into its own, developing interesting continuity, characters, and stories that are way different than Rick and Morty. Sure, there is still some overlap in terms of humor, but it is clear that the show is finding its own niche.

You need look no further for proof of that statement than by looking at the series’ show within a show, The Wall.

The Wall first debuted in Solar Opposites during the first episode as what seemed to be just a fun, messed up little joke. Any time someone made Yumyulack mad, he shrunk them down and placed them into his homemade series of interconnected terrariums in the wall of his and Jesse’s room.

Clap Hanz' first non-PlayStation title is essentially more Everybody's Golf

3 years 1 month ago

After a huge drop of games on Apple Arcade, we're going to spend some of this week picking through the new stuff. First up, it's a PlayStation favourite with a new home...

Where exactly to start with the mega drop of new games on Apple Arcade late last week? As tempted as I've been by Mistwalker's outrageously gorgeous Fantasian, or Platinum Games' overdue iOS debut World of Demons, it's the one that took me completely by surprise that I downloaded first. Its very existence is a remarkable thing of itself: after 23 years as a PlayStation exclusive developer, this is Clap Hanz first release beyond the world of Sony's consoles.

If you've been a fan of Clap Hanz' PlayStation work, it'll be immediately familiar: Clap Hanz Golf on Apple Arcade really is the Everybody's Golf experience on mobile, all that character and class accumulated over the years surviving the process intact, with a few nips and tucks here and there.

E3 2021 will run from June 12 to June 15, Nintendo and Microsoft confirmed, but not Sony yet

3 years 1 month ago

With all the rumors flying around, it's entirely possible that the ESA pivoted its E3 plans multiple times these past few months. But as of today, they are committed to a free June show.

The ESA confirmed to Destructoid this morning that E3 2021 will take place from "June 12 to June 15," with "early commitments from the following publishers: "Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games and Koch Media, and more to come." So there's a few of the usual "press conference" suspects, minus Bethesda. Also note that Sony is again not present on this early list. Gulp!

There's a few takeaways from this seemingly innocuous confirmation, too. The ESA reconfirms that the show will be "available to everyone for free," which is great news as a potential last-minute decision prevented a disaster of paywalling. And there's another thing to note from the ESA's statement this morning, too.

"The ESA looks forward to coming back together to celebrate E3 2022 in person, in the meantime see you online this June!" Bold! Most companies said this last year too, so we'll have to see on that. It should be fine, right? Keep that optimism: You have a heart of gold. Don't let them take it from you.

"In the meantime see you online this June" is also a little disingenuous. Maybe from you, ESA! But the summer of packed conferences is starting up in April, and likely won't let up until later this fall. I miss a physical E3 mostly because it allowed all of those publishers to just pack everything into a week and not spread it out across half a year of micro-streams.

Pull off 'that' Akira bike slide in exciting cyberpunk VR title RUNNER

3 years 1 month ago

Remember that scene in Akira where Tetsuo steals Kaneda's bike and gets the ever-loving shit kicked out of him by a street gang? If you've ever watched that scene and thought "Man, that could be me!" then you might want to look into RUNNER, a brand new VR biker title headed to PS5 and PC.

Developed by indie outfit Truant Pixel, RUNNER soaks up the style of classic cyberpunk anime, capturing the atmosphere of movies such as Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Patlabor - an aesthetic beautifully dubbed "Cassette Futurism" by the developer. Players will don the biker leathers of black market mod courier Mina, as she snakes her way through the sectors of "The Thoroughfare," relentlessly pursued by agents of the Caldara corporation.

E3 2021 Plans Announced: Xbox and Nintendo Involved, No Sign of Sony

3 years 1 month ago
The Electronic Software Association has announced its plans for the first digital-only E3, which will include Nintendo and Xbox, but currently does not include Sony. Taking place from June 12-15, E3 2021 is confirmed to include appearances from Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games, Koch Media. Sony is conspicuous by its absence on that list, and we've contacted the company for comment. Other major missing companies include EA (which has recently preferred to host its own EA Play events during E3's timing), Square Enix, Sega, Bandai Namco, Tencent, 505, and Activision Blizzard. The ESA makes clear that the list of partners marks "early commitments", so other publishers and developers could come onboard at a later date. However, before the show's pandemic-related cancellation, Sony had confirmed that it had no plans to attend E3 2020. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/02/10/will-e3-still-have-a-big-impact-in-2021-plus-silent-hill-rumors-beyond-episode-687"] After announcing that the show would return as a digital-only event, the E3 website promises "live press conferences and a four-day long video stream," and says the show will be "a reimagined and hyper-engaged digital experience." Concrete details about the show remain thin on the ground, but ESA president Stanley Pierre-Louis used a press release to say: “We are evolving this year’s E3 into a more inclusive event, but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable center stage for video games.” What we know for sure is that the event will be entirely free.

Timesplitters 2 4K Port Hidden Inside Homefront: The Revolution... But the Unlock Code Is Lost

3 years 1 month ago
A native 4K port of TimeSplitters 2 is tucked inside Homefront: The Revolution. There's just one problem – the code to unlock it has seemingly been lost. During the Easter weekend, ex-Vlambeer developer Jan Willem Nijman asked fellow devs to point out their favourite Easter eggs hidden in their games. Matt Phillips, who previously worked at Homefront: The Revolution developer Dambuster, revealed a doozy: "My proudest moment. Fully playable, native 4K port of TimeSplitters 2 hidden in this arcade machine in Homefront: The Revolution."

Apex Legends Glitch Is Completely Wiping PlayStation Player Progress

3 years 1 month ago

Bugs in online games are nothing new, and most of the time, they are pretty harmless. That being said, sometimes game-breaking glitches do sneak their way into games, and that is exactly the case with two separate Apex Legends issues. One is a bug that is wiping out PS4 and PS5 player progress, while the other is specifically tied to EA accounts. With so many seasons under the battle royale game's belt, it's easy to see why players are worried about their hard-earned progress.

Respawn took to Twitter to update players on the two bugs, confirming that they are unrelated. "We're investigating reports of some [Apex] players losing unlocks after changing the email associated with their EA account," reads the tweet. "A similar bug is affecting account progress for PS4 players. We've asked support teams to escalate these reports."

Jimmy Fallon, Stranger Things, Content Creators And More Are Set To Play On The Among Us Airship

3 years 1 month ago

Jimmy Fallon, the host of the Tonight Show, will join an all-star cast of celebrities, huge content creators, and more on Tuesday on Twitch for some amazing Among Us play, reports IGN. This marks Fallon's first Twitch stream, as brands and already established celebrities both major and minor take to the gaming platform to stream all manner of content. With Among Us being a game of social deception and mystery, it's often a wonderful time regardless of who you have playing, but it should be quite interesting to watch Fallon get all "sus" with giant content creator stars like Corpse Husband, Sykkyno, and Valkyrae.

Oh, and the Stranger Things crew will be there too with Noah Schnapp and Gaten Matarazzo. Among Us community director Victoria Tran will also be in attendance for the serial killing soiree, among other special guests.

ESA Confirms E3 2021 Will Be An All-Virtual Event

3 years 1 month ago

Following weeks of rumorsthe ESA has confirmed that E3 2021 is indeed happening and will be an all-virtual event. That means the show will take place over the internet instead of at the LA Convention Center and will run from June 12 through June 15.

The ESA did not provide any specific details as to what the format of the event will be exactly. They only say they’ll be working with media partners and developers to bring the latest games and announcements directly to players for free. We assume this means a series of livestreams but it’s hard to say what else the organization has in store beyond that (whatever the plans are, hopefully they will at least impress Reggie Fils-Aime).

One Chef's Take On Monster Hunter Food Recreated In Real Life Is Making Us Deliciously Hungry

3 years 1 month ago

There are many games out there that have delicious-looking food, and the Monster Hunter franchise is definitely among them. While I can't even seem to cook a pop tart without setting the kitchen on fire, one chef shared his take on some of the tastier Monster Hunter recipes out there, and everything he made looks yum.

The channel in question Is called Babish Culinary Universe, and creator Andrew Rea decided to give Monster Hunter fans something to truly drool over: amazing food. As spotted by the folks over at ComicBookthe below video is honestly awesome for anyone, even if they aren't fans of the Capcom franchise.

The meal today? The Chef's Choice Platter. If you've played Monster Hunter: World, then this dish will look very familiar to you. Seafood, rice, chicken, cheese, and various other meats all compile to make one hearty meal. Now the question is...how do I become friends with Andrew Rea?

I'm kidding...unless...

New Mortal Kombat Movie Video Shows Off Nathan Jones As Reiko And More Behind-The-Scenes First Looks

3 years 1 month ago

While the Mortal Kombat movie did see a small delay by just one week, the team behind the reboot is not slowing down when it comes to keeping that hype train moving. With a new release date set for April 23 for both a theatrical release and a launch on HBO Max, a new Mortal Kombat movie video has been revealed to show a closer look at what goes on behind the scenes.

"The Mortal Kombat kast is a truly global and diverse group bringing your champions to life," reads the Twitter caption for the below mini-feature. While the video shows off a plethora of cast footage, it also shows off Nathan Jones as Reiko. From the looks of it, it looks like this film will flesh out Reiko's backstory even more, which is great when looking at his relatively small impact on the franchise when compared against other fighters.

E3 returns for 2021 with an online show June 12-15

3 years 1 month ago

After skipping last year due to the pandemic, E3 will officially return in 2021 with a free online show running June 12-15th. The organisers say to expect participants including Microsoft, Ubisoft, Take-Two, and Nintendo. E3 is the biggest marketing event on the games industry's calendar but last year its organisers didn't arrange an online replacement after the pandemic ruled out an in-person show, leading to a weeks-long sprawl of unaffiliated alternatives from publishers and the media. I never thought I'd say it but: I missed E3. Please save us from the endless NotE3.
