Marvel's Avengers: Hawkeye Content to Be Revealed In New War Table Next Month

3 years 3 months ago
Marvel's Avengers next War Table will take place on February 16, 2021, and it will showcase both Hawkeye and the delayed PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. Announced by Marvel's Avengers on Twitter, Hawkeye and his Operation, Hawkeye - Future Imperfect, will be the next free big DLC content to be released following the arrival of Kate Bishop and her new Operation, Taking A.I.M. HawkeyeHawkeye was the first post-launch hero revealed for Marvel's Avengers, and Bishop's Operation saw her embark on a rescue mission for Clint "Hawkeye" Barton by using a bridge through time to save him. Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics had planned on having the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version ready earlier, but they were delayed "to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be." Although a report came out last year that said Marvel's Avengers hadn't yet recouped its development costs, these updates, as well as the upcoming PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man DLC, will hopefully help make 2021 a successful one for the game. How Open Roads Evolves Fullbright's Storytelling After Gone Home and Tacoma

3 years 3 months ago
Fullbright, the acclaimed studio behind Gone Home and Tacoma, unveiled its newest narrative adventure, Open Roads, at the 2020 Game Awards. But beyond a trailer that showcased a distinctive mix of art styles, teases of a story that would dive into a family's history, and some impressive star power with Keri Russell and Kaitlyn Dever leading the cast, it's remained a mystery. Thankfully, Fullbright co-founder and Open Roads director Steve Gaynor recently spoke with IGN about how Open Roads represents another evolution of the studio's penchant for telling emotional, layered stories in unexpected ways. From our discussion, it sounds like Open Roads builds upon the first-person exploration of the studio's past games, hallmarks of the "walking sim" genre, but with new story and design choices that continue to build off what they and other developers have done. And one of the biggest ways Open Roads represents a departure from the studio's past games is by simply having another character with you throughout this new story. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/11/open-roads-announcement-trailer"] "A big part of Open Roads is discovering this character relationship from the inside, by being part of it, which is not something that we've done before," Gaynor said. "The central relationship, it arose out of the starting question, which is always, 'What is the player doing?

UnderMine Digs Its Way To Switch In February

3 years 3 months ago

UnderMine was one of 2020’s best hidden gems, and now Nintendo fans get to unearth its goodness when it comes to Switch on February 11. The game originally launched for Xbox One (via Game Pass) and PC last August.

Switch players can pick up UnderMine for $19.99. UnderMine comes from the two-man team at Thorium Entertainment, and puts players in the role of miners who must dig below the earth in search of riches, resources, and colorful characters, all in the name of serving your kingdom. The presentation and design evokes classic Legend of Zelda with a top-down perspective and dungeon-style layout for each floor. That includes bombing weak walls, finding keys, and solving puzzles.

Treasures and dangers increase as players get deeper, which includes facing challenging bosses. When players bite the dust, they return to the service with a new, randomly generated miner, and retain only a portion of their collected loot. Thus, the cycle becomes trying to gather as much valuables as possible each run in order to unlock permanent upgrades back on the surface to help make subsequent digs easier.

New Trailer for Evil Genius 2: World Domination Touts Release Date

3 years 3 months ago

Any gamers out there enjoy playing the hero but want to see how the other side lives? Evil Genius 2: World Domination will be sinking its evil teeth into your PC on March 30. You will be able to find the game on Steam, so get wishlisting today to make sure you can live out your evil intentions. If you so choose.

The new Evil Genius 2: World Domination trailer gives a focus on all the lair building you will be doing to give your specific brand of evil just the right look for the occasion. Lairs are important for when those ruinous do-gooders come to spoil a perfect plan for either World Domination (like the title, get it?) or just to make a little money (billions).

Evil Genius 2: World Domination allows for the choice between four evil geniuses. Though seeing as one is a definite copy of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the choice sort of makes itself. Who doesn’t want to be the one dangling James Bond over a pit of crocodiles or trying to laser him in half?

You can take a look at all the evil and the genius in the trailer here and below:

Second Borderlands 3 Arms Race Mini-Event Goes Live Today

3 years 3 months ago

It’s been a week since the Clear Skies event in Borderlands 3’s Arms Race started and it’s time for it to switch over. Hope the looting was good, as this event reverts back to the original Murdercane pattern. This new event is called Extra Extra Extraction.

During the Extra Extra Extraction mini-event, all extraction stations will have additional slots so you can extract more gear! In addition, Air Drops will have a greatly increased chance to drop DAHL chests, which are more likely to contain Arms Race-exclusive gear.

For those who missed it,

During the Clear Skies mini-event, all enemies will have a chance to drop better loot and the Murdercane’s circle will take longer to close in so you have precious extra time to scavenge and explore.

Arms Race, for those who might have already finished with Borderlands 3 by now without going back for all this additional DLC, is a whole new mode to the game.

In Arms Race, players are dropped into a map with no gear or character skills. You are simply whatever level you are with your appropriate amount of health. Players must kill enemies and loot chests to obtain gear to carry them to the final boss. Certain chests are locked behind gates that require clearing a couple waves of enemies, but the rest are randomly located.

The Murdercane works just like the storm in any popular Battle Royale you can name, it is a moving circle that shrinks the map’s playable area. This sounds daunting, but the biggest danger in Arms Race is not finding a shield fast enough.

Capcom Updates Sales of Resident Evil 3, Iceborne, & More; COVID Impact on Development “Negligible”

3 years 3 months ago

Following up on the announcement of its latest financial results, Capcom hosted a presentation and published its slides with more information.

First of all, we learn that the impact of COVID-19 on business and development is currently identified as “negligible.”

On top of that, Capcom also mentioned that currently there has been “limited impact” from the data security breach that happened back in November 2020 on the quarter’s business results, but the company is still investigating the scope of the damage. Internal systems have been largely restored.

We learn that shipments of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne have now passed 7.2 million units (as of Dec 31. 2020), while Resident EVil 3 is now at 3.6 million units.

Interestingly, Capcom is not shying away from its arcade operation as it plans to open a new store (reaching a total of 41) and closed none, despite expecting a 19% year-on-year drop in sales.

We also get updates for shipments of various franchises.

  • Resident Evil: 107 million units
  • Stree Fighter: 46 million units
  • Monster Hunter: 66 million units
  • Devil May Cry: 23 million units

It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Monster Hunter Rise and Resident Evil Village will impact those sales over the next few months.

Ninja Theory says no more content updates for online brawler Bleeding Edge

3 years 3 months ago

It's been just under a year since Hellblade developer Ninja Theory released its team-based multiplayer effort Bleeding Edge, but already the studio is calling time on development, announcing there'll no more content updates as of today.

Released last March on Xbox One and PC, Bleeding Edge was pitched as raucous blend of third-person melee action and class-based 4v4 multiplayer, and it successfully laid a solid, if rather bare-bones, foundation at launch. As Eurogamer's Wesley Yin-Poole put it in his review, "The combat is just about good enough to get away with it for now, but without some meaningful updates I'll probably lose interest sooner rather than later."

Those updates did come, but only sporadically, with Bleeding Edge's last major addition arriving in the form of new character Azrael last July. A quick glance at SteamCharts shows concurrents tumbling since then, with player counts barely squeaking above 30 in the last few months. If that trend is reflected elsewhere, it's understandable why Ninja Theory would opt to pull the plug on further content updates.

Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.10/1.11 - has the game improved on PS4 and Xbox One?

3 years 3 months ago

CD Projekt RED promised a major patch for Cyberpunk 2077 in January and the studio duly delivered, with version 1.10 promising a slew of bug fixes, stability improvements and - for PlayStation 4 at least - the promise of actual performance upgrades. And this is crucial because we have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that crashes can be rectified and glitches removed, but the fundamental issue is this: does last-gen hardware have the horsepower to deliver a consistent level of performance that's much closer to the target 30fps? Performance analysis of version 1.10 gives us optimism in some respects, but there's still a mountain to climb.

Of course, version 1.10 has since been updated with patch 1.11, which essentially delivers a hotfix update to correct a couple of bugs, but the main optimisation and stability push introduced memory management improvements, and addressed a large array of bugs. What's curious are the platform-specific optimisations: there's talk of crowd optimisation for PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5, but surely the base PS4 should improve too? And why wouldn't these optimisations also improve the situation for Xbox One users. For its part, the Microsoft platform saw memory management changes, specifically around character creation, mirrors, camera scanning and much more.

Gunbarich is the next classic Psikyo shmup headed to PC

3 years 3 months ago

Publisher City Connection continues on its quest to bring developer Psikyo string of shmup classics to the PC platform. Next on the agenda is colorful hybrid title Gunbarich, which first launched in Japanese arcades back in 2001.

Combining the gameplay mechanics of a vertical shmup, a Breakout clone, and even a little bit of pinball, Gunbarich has players control one of cute selection of avatars, batting a day-glo pink puck back and forth against walls, enemies, and their projectiles. In fact, you can even reflect enemy bullets back at your oppressors for maximum damage. Turn the tables, yo.

As with all previous City Connection re-releases, Gunbarich will feature all of the arcade's original dipswitch options, along with a range of visual filters and orientation settings, allowing players to customize Gunbarich's speed, difficulty and visual design to their pleasure. Gunbarich will launch on PC February 11.

Ninja Theory isn't pulling Bleeding Edge offline, but it's moving on

3 years 3 months ago

If you had told me Bleeding Edge would still be around in January 2021, I'm not sure I would've been able to picture it. Ninja Theory isn't delisting Bleeding Edge yet – a move that seems plausible given its failure to resonate with a big-enough audience – but the team is done releasing content updates for the game.

The only-a-matter-of-time news was shared today on Twitter.

Bleeding Edge has redeeming qualities – it's clear the developers genuinely tried – but better games have failed to make a splash in the tricky modern-day multiplayer space, and it doesn't make sense to fight this uphill battle. Not every game can turn it around post-launch, and not every game should.

I'm glad Ninja Theory is in a position to take the hit on Bleeding Edge and move on undeterred with a mix of familiar (Hellblade II) and new (Project Mara). I'd hate to lose this studio to a botched PvP game.

Tencent purchases minority stake in Dontnod Entertainment

3 years 3 months ago

Dontnod Entertainment, the studio behind titles such as Life is Strange, Vampyr, and Twin Mirror, has announced that it has sold a minority stake to Chinese conglomerate Tencent.

The French developer agreed to the Tencent investment as part of its ongoing efforts to becoming financially secure enough to self-publish its future releases. Tencent's stake equates to something in the region of €30 EUR (roughly $36 million USD) toward Dontnod's capital. In return, Tencent receives a chair on the studio's board of directors.

"We are delighted to welcome Tencent as a Dontnod investor," said Dontnod CEO Oskar Guilbert. "Through this partnership, Dontnod is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the various growth drivers in the video game industry, in particular in China and on mobile platforms[...] The capital increase announced today will enable us to step up and boost the roll-out of our development plan, which aims to capture more value from our original creations by self-publishing more games."

This is only the latest industry move by Tencent this week, as mere days ago it was announced that the multimedia corporation had purchased a majority stake in another relatively small studio, Klei Entertainment. It should be clarified that the two deals are very different in scale, with the Dontnod transaction more of a company investment, and not anything close to a studio purchase.

The Yakuza Remastered Collection is ready and waiting for you on PC and Xbox One

3 years 3 months ago

A whole buncha people are about to enter a Kiryu state of mind, and that warms my heart like a toasty towel fresh out of the dryer. At last, Sega has released The Yakuza Remastered Collection on Steam and Xbox One – the three-game bundle costs $40, or you could stick with Xbox Game Pass if you have it.

You can also buy the 1080p/60fps remasters of Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, and Yakuza 5 separately if you wish, but you'll lose out on some savings in the process. The games are $20 a pop if you go that route.

You may not be in a spot to play these three titles yet, but even just knowing you'll have the chance to check them out on your platform of choice is encouraging. It's important for the mainline series to be available all in one place (and I'm hoping some of the spin-off games will resurface in the future).

I have the PS4 edition of The Yakuza Remastered Collection, and I'm waiting for the right moment to feverishly play through them back-to-back. I bounce from hibernation to intense obsession.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 will be dropping onto PC in March

3 years 3 months ago

Sega has announced that its excellent and addictive release Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is headed to PC in the coming months. Following its recent release on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms, the hybrid puzzle title will be available to purchase via Steam on March 23.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, for those less inclined, combines the action of both the Puyo Puyo and Tetris franchise for a fast-moving, quick-changing, and breathless strategy experience. The sequel is packed out with features and modes for both single and multiplayer participants, including a character-driven story mode, new boss raids, and various challenges for even the most hardened Puyo Puyo Tetris fanatic.

The PC release will feature all of the content from the console version including the recent addition of Sega's own Sonic the Hedgehog as a playable character. If you're new to the franchise, don't sweat it, as Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 includes a deep tutorial and trial mode to get you in the brick and blob droppin' action. It's a great game, well worth checking out if you're yet to take the plunge.

3 years 3 months ago

America’s most popular sporting spectacle airs early next month. And while football fans everywhere will be preparing for the monumental clash between Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, Rocket League players are getting their own chance to run (or, in this case, drive) to daylight.

The upcoming Super Bowl LV Celebration is an in-game event where Rocket League players can live out their football fantasies in small teams while still playing within the confines of the popular video game’s quirky ruleset and mechanics. The new game mode coming alongside the Celebration is called Gridiron. A recent post on the Official PlayStation Blog goes into detail on how Gridiron is played but you can also read the list of rules below:
