Cyberpunk 2077 Hotfix 1.11 Addresses Game-Breaking Quest Bug

3 years 3 months ago

In its efforts to improve the performance and stability of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red unintentionally introduced a game-breaking bug with its Patch 1.1 earlier this month. Today, a new hotfix has been released to address the “Down the Street” quest bug.

Available on consoles, PC, and Google Stadia, Hotfix 1.11 makes the following changes (via the game’s official website):

  • Item randomization has been restored to the previous state.

The save/load loot exploit will be investigated further.

  • A bug in Down on the Street quest has been fixed.

It occurred for some players during a holocall with Takemura, when using a save made on version 1.06 with Down on the Street quest in progress at “Wait For Takemura’s call” objective. After loading such a save on version 1.1, the holocall would lack dialogue options and block interactions with other NPCs.

In related recent Cyberpunk 2077 news, CD Projekt RED released the first wave of tools to support mod creation for the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for PS4 (if you can find a physical copy), Xbox One, and PC. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S updates are coming in the second half of 2021.

For those who haven’t already, do check out Twinfinite’s review of Cyberpunk 2077.

3 years 3 months ago

The sci-fi game Journey to the Savage Planet from former Assassin's Creed and Far Cry boss Alex Hutchinson and Typhoon Studios is now available to buy on Steam. The game originally launched a year ago this week as an exclusive for the Epic Games Store, but now it's out on Valve's platform following the end of the exclusivity deal with Epic.

Additionally, the game is marked down by 40% through February 15, while you can save even more if you buy the base game and the Hot Garbage DLC bundle. The game has a landing page on Steam but it doesn't appear to have gone live just yet for sale--that should happen soon.

A first-person adventure game with a comedic bent, Journey to the Savage Planet takes players to an alien world where they must explore and learn about the flora and fauna. The game is playable solo or with two-player online co-op.

3 years 3 months ago

In the midst of a stock surge that has taken the financial world by storm, the popular stock-trading site Robinhood has halted trades of the key stocks at the center of the story. This comes as the Robinhood app itself is surging in popularity, along with Reddit where the trades are being organized.

Bloomberg reports that several clients have said they've been unable to trade GameStop Corp. or AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. stocks. Instead, those stocks are being given a "not supported" note. This follows a similar stoppage from TD Ameritrade.

Robinhood has now issued a statement on its policy, chalking it up to monitoring for market volatility.

Capcom Hits New Record High For Profit And Reveals Best-Selling Franchises

3 years 3 months ago

Japanese game publisher Capcom is doing exceptionally well right now in terms of its business. The company has announced its highest-ever profit thanks in part to the firm's continued push into the digital market and sales of Monster Hunter World and Resident Evil 3.

Thanks to another strong period, Monster Hunter World: Iceborn has now sold more than 7.2 million units worldwide, while Resident Evil 3 has hit 3.6 million copies sold. The total number of games sold by Capcom during the financial year has reached 19.8 million, and 16.2 million of them were digital sales. This is good news for Capcom, as the company makes more money on digital games than physical titles.

Overall, Capcom pulled in revenue of 64.8 billion yen and made a profit of 17.5 billion yen, which is a record for the company over its 41-year history. All of these numbers pertain to the nine-month period ended on December 31, 2020.

Nintendo Download: Tohu

3 years 3 months ago

We're gearing up for a huge Nintendo release (or should I say, another re-release that's probably going to be a huge hit) soon enough with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, but for now, we feast on indies.

There's a lot of them today! Olija, Tohu (not that Touhou), and a handful of others like Golden Force. Amazingly, The 3DS is getting a new game today in Bricks Pinball 4, and the Wii U is hosting Seasonal Assistant. It's a miracle!

This sort of dual-release, no matter how small, hasn't happened in a good while. Usually we get a 3DS or Wii U game on their own every few months or so, but to see these systems still alive in some form puts a smile on my face.

(Update) One of Sonic's most iconic voice actors will no longer be performing the character

2 years 11 months ago

[Update: In this roller coaster of a saga, four months after announcing that he was departing the role of Sonic with a broken blue heart, voice actor Roger Craig Smith tweeted out a picture of a mended heart, noting: "I hope to honor your support and passion as I'm officially back voicing Sonic the hedgehog in games."

Uh what? I mean, that's good news, but maybe some sort of contract deal got worked out on the backend, possibly involving Smith voicing the character in Sonic Prime? This news comes right on the heels of May's Sonic news stream, so maybe we'll hear more about it tomorrow.

Either way, we got a taste of Smith coming back to voice something Sonic related in this recent inspirational Sonic video from Sega.]

Odds are you've heard Roger Craig Smith speak before.

Perhaps as Chris Redfield in modern Resident Evil games? Or in cartoons like Regular Show, as a host of different characters. He's even been the voice of Batman several times! But many ardent fans will always think of him as the main voice of Sonic following Jaleel White's turn in the role: until today, that is.

Shared on Twitter by the man himself, Smith had the following to say today: "Welp, 10 years was an amazing run. Onward to new zones! Much love to the fans who've been so kind. It's been an honor."

Housemarque's Returnal pushed back to April 30

3 years 3 months ago

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Housemarque's bullet-hell roguelike Returnal will not meet its March 19 release date, and will launch on PS5 on April 30.

In a brief message on Twitter, SIE noted the decision was made to push the interstellar adventure back in order to give the team "extra time to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque." Returnal already looks pretty dang slick, but the short delay should at least give the Resogun devs the opportunity to fine-tune its weird world.

Returnal will tell the story a Selene, a space explorer who finds herself caught in a death-and-rebirth timeloop, ala Edge of Tomorrow. Players will guide our hero as she explores a beautiful but dangerous universe, using an arsenal of ridiculously powerful weaponry to press further forward with each demise, pressing closer and closer to the source of the planet's chrono-conundrum.

Activision says applying diversity hiring rule to all vacancies would be 'unworkable'

3 years 3 months ago

According to an in-depth report by Vice, Activision Blizzard is resisting a union-led suggestion that it interviews "at least one diverse candidate" for any of its future company vacancies, with the publisher's legal team calling the rule "an unworkable encroachment".

The so-called "Rooney Rule" - adopted by the National Football League back in 2003 - mandates that employers interview diverse candidates whenever looking for coaches, managers, or other office positions within their respective teams. The AFL-CIO labor federation, which works with Activision and Electronic Arts, requests that a similar rule be applied to both publishers' hiring practices going forward.

But it appears Activision has not taken warmly to the suggestion. According to a letter received by Vice, an Activision attorney told the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that "While the company has implemented a Rooney Rule policy as envisioned [for director and CEO nominees], implementing a policy that would extend such an approach to all hiring decisions amounts to an unworkable encroachment on the Company's ability to run its business and compete for talent in a highly competitive, fast-moving market."

Activision also responded directly to Vice's report. "Our talent is the lifeblood of Activision Blizzard." said the publisher. "We value the diversity of the Activision Blizzard community and understand that our employees and players come from a wide array of backgrounds. In order to deliver epic and engaging entertainment for a diverse, growing global audience, our workforce must reflect these communities."

Sea of Thieves Can Now Run at 120 FPS on Xbox Series X

3 years 3 months ago
Season One of Sea of Thieves has officially begun, and with it comes a new 120Hz Performance mode on Xbox Series X that supports 120 FPS at 1080p. As detailed in the release notes for this big Season One update, it also notes that some TVs do not support 120Hz and HDR simultaneously, so HDR may need to be disabled from the console settings if players wish to sail the seas with 120 FPS. Seasons mark a new initiative for Sea of Thieves that will see new content added to the game every three months. In addition, a battle pass system has been implemented that will reward players throughout each Season. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/sea-of-thieves-seasons-explained-trailer"] Each season will have players progress through 100 levels of Pirate Renown, and rewards for both the player's pirate character and ship can be unlocked. Additionally, those who have reached the title of Pirate Legend will get specialized rewards as part of this new progression system. An optional, premium tier of the battle pass - titled 'Plunder Pass' - will be available and will offer even more unique rewards and exclusive items from the Pirate Emporium. This 120Hz update is just another improvement to Sea of Thieves following the arrival of the Xbox Series X/S optimizations that arrived in November 2020 and added faster load times and 60 FPS for Xbox Series X/S, and 4K for Xbox Series X. Next Tomb Raider to Unify the Reboot Trilogy and Original Games

3 years 3 months ago
Crystal Dynamics has shared a bit of information on its next, currently unannounced Tomb Raider, saying it's "working to unify" the timelines of Core Design's original games and its own reboot trilogy that began in 2013. While the reboot trilogy told the origin story of Lara Croft becoming the Tomb Raider, the original games "featured a seasoned and confident adventurer," said game director Will Kerslake in a video posted to Twitter. The development team envisions "a future of Tomb Raider unfolding after these established adventures, telling stories that build upon the breadth of both Core Design and Crystal Dynamics' games, working to unify these timelines." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-tomb-raider-review-ever&captions=true"] Kerslake noted the difficulty of such a task given the franchise's 25-year history and asked fans to be patient as the studio works through development. "We don't have plans for a major game announcement in the near future," he said. Lara's latest adventure, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was released in 2018. IGN's Shadow of the Tomb Raider review awarded it a 9/10 and called it a "powerful finale to Lara Croft's origin trilogy." In other franchise news, a Tomb Raider anime series, set after the events of Crystal's origin trilogy, is in development at Netflix.

Returnal Delayed to April 2021

3 years 3 months ago
Returnal, the PlayStation 5 exclusive from Housemarque, has been delayed from March 19, 2021 to April 30, 2021. Announced by PlayStation, SIE and Housemarque have chosen to move the release date "in order to give the team extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/13/returnal-combat-trailer"] Returnal was announced at the PS5 reveal event and is the next title from the developer of such games as Resogun and Super Stardust HD. This new game is a roguelike third-person shooter that sees you play as Astra space scout Selene as she is stuck in a constant loop of resurrection. Housemarque has also noted that Returnal will offer fast load times, and haptic feedback that will let players "feel the natural ambience of this alien planet as the controller mimics its environmental effects." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=returnal-game-awards-trailer-screenshots&captions=true"] Returnal also follows Housemarques comments that it was moving away from developing arcade-style games - like Resogun and Nex Machina - after poor sales. It looks like Returnal will still have the feel of many of Housemarque's previous games, but this marks a new direction for the studio. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us?
