Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai announced today during a brief video that Steve from Minecraft will be joining the game’s roster. He’ll be joined by Alex, Zombie, and Enderman.
On Sunday night almost the entire staff of Washington Square News, an independent news outlet operated by New York University students, resigned in unison, linking to a list of demands and grievances on Twitter. Within minutes, the move was heralded by former NYU alums and young journalists as bold and brave. The 43…
The marsupial of legend returns and he’s never been so fluffy. But there’s nothing soft and cuddly about Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. In true Crash fashion, this cute and colorful platformer is here to kick your ass.

Today during the dramatic Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character presentation, Minecraft's Steve and Alex were presented as the next DLC fighters. They'll be accompanied by the classic DLC suite: a new level and music (seven tracks) for $5.99, or as part of the $30 Fighter's Pass.
After the reveal, Sakurai affirmed that "the most popular game in the world" is coming to Smash, and that in this case, someone at Nintendo suggested that they put Minecraft in the game. He mentions the "wizardry" and the difficulty of porting Minecraft into the Smash world and that he was ready for the task. "Stages needed to be reworked so blocks would fit in them," Sakurai muses, going over the design process on the "completely different" Steve/Alex models that were tough to design to slot into the current engine.
That's all he had to say today. More info is coming at 10:30AM ET on October 3. I'm here for it! I mean there are probably a ton of anime characters a few of us wanted first (Dante), but Minecraft is a global phenomenon and this will actually attract people to Ultimate in a way some DLC characters haven't in the past. It might have been a coincidence, but as soon as the news hit, Twitter literally broke. Four more to go!
It's also a watershed moment for Nintendo, having buddied up with Microsoft previously for the play together initiative, which threw serious shade at Sony; who at the time, was hesitant to embrace any form of cross-play.
Crash Bandicoot is a legend in my household.
As a kid, I couldn't get enough of the 'lil furball, whether it was via the classic platforming series or Crash Team Racing. When I met my wife, as luck would have it, we would both share a love for Crash-related games, and spent much of our early dating years toiling away taking turns with the trilogy or engaging in late-night Crash runs.
Witnessing the series slowly slip away from Sony's grasp and into the state of irrelevancy was tough. That all changed in recent years with the N. Sane Trilogy and now Crash 4 thanks to the tireless efforts of developmental stewardship from Vicarious Visions and Toys for Bob.

The day has finally come for another free Switch download.
Buried within the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct, we got wind of a battle royale themed around the classic NES Mario Bros. The idea is that you duke it out with other players by running through classic platforming stages, throwing hazards their way. The last surviving Mario wins. Simple, right? It's kind of like Tetris 99, but 35...and it's Mario instead of Tetris.
Well it's not just a dream anymore, as it's fully out on Switch. So long as you have Switch Online, you have access to the game: just hit the eShop. Oh, and don't forget that this is another "limited time" dealio. Nintendo reminds us that it will "only be playable until March 31, 2021."
Maybe around that time we'll get a Jump Rope Challenge-esque extension?

Wii Sports was an utter phenomenon.
Your grandma played it. Your neighbor probably played it. All in the before times of course: no I'm talking about when everyone's Wii was hooked up! 2006 was a wild year for Nintendo, when their plans for living room domination were finally realized. When Wii Sports and Wii Fit were crushing it, and the Wii would go on to be their best-selling home console of all time.
This video from willyj1234 brings up back to those simpler times: when we'd leave the game running to hear a Wii theme (or the eShop music!). "The band writing the 'Wii Sports' theme song and knowing it's a banger," is all you really need to know going into the below vided.
My Wii U is perpetually hooked up, so I'm game to go back and at least listen to the theme myself in the near future. That's right, I still use it! I'm not sure when I'll ever pack it in, even as the next generation arises.
[Thanks Bob!]

PlayStation’s Pre-Order Debacle | Final Checkpoint Podcast Ep. 55 Read More »
The post https://thegamefanatics.com/playstations-pre-order-debacle-final-checkpoint-podcast-ep-55/ appeared first on The Game Fanatics,.Nintendo actually did it. Minecraft Steve (along with Alex, Endermen, and Zombie) are coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Is this a fever dream? Is this actually happening? We now have a fighting video game that features characters from top-tier franchises like Persona, Pokemon, Metal Gear, Street Fighter, and now, Minecraft –it’s honestly unfathomable.
Of course, the big reveal from this morning has led folks to create some hilarious memes and reaction posts on the internet, which are just too good not to share.
Let’s dive into some of the best Minecraft Steve memes that we could find out there in on the interwebs, shall we?
Now that Steve is joining the roster, there’s more of a chance for oddball picks such as Master Chief. I don’t think it could happen, but who knows. Sakurai is one wild man.
Today Nintendo announced that Minecraft Steve will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch as part of the second Fighter’s Pass.
The trailer that premiered today showed off Steve’s moveset and we even get a good look at some of the alt costumes that players can choose from. There’s Alex, Endermen, and a Zombie, which all seem to have the same moves.
The new fighter uses a lot of tools that are well-known to the Minecraft universe, such as a sword, a pickaxe, lava, a fishing rod, and of course, lots and lots of blocks.
Sakurai mentioned that every single stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate had to be reworked in order to take advantage of the block-building abilities that Steve has access to, which does not seem like an easy feat at all. He also states that bringing in this character into the game was almost impossible, but the team managed to make it all work.
You can watch the entire presentation down below as well as the reveal trailer itself:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone launched season six this week - and with it added a new gun that's more than a bit broken.
The AS Val, one of two new guns added to the game with season six, has a pretty devastating bug with the SPP 10-round magazine attachment.
This attachment gives the weapon special armour-piercing ammunition designed for increased penetration, and that's exactly what you get - except to a game-breaking level. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare does have the "wall bang" kill type - that is, you can already shoot through some surfaces if the bullets you're using have enough penetration (the FMJ attachment boosts this effect). But we've never seen anything quite like this.
With the arrival of Mafia Definitive Edition, the trilogy is finally complete. All three games are brought up-to-date to modern consoles but ironically, it's the first Mafia title that features the most advanced technology of all - including a fascinating software-based alternative to ray traced reflections.
It's a feature that's common to all console versions, where the technological differences are fairly minimal - and almost par for the course. Curiously, both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X operate at a native 1440p resolution, though the Microsoft platform enjoys improved shadow quality, ambient occlusion and a better lock on the target 30 frames per second. It's business as usual on PS4 and Xbox One with a 1080p/900p divide, and all versions use temporal anti-aliasing - which does present some banding issues. As is often the case, there's the sense that the vanilla Xbox One has the most visual compromises: I immediately noticed some issues with dithering on hair and other fine detailing. Traffic draw in the big city is impressively close all round.
Minecraft's Steve is the latest character to join the bulging Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster - and that's not all. Alex, Zombie and Enderman will also be playable fighters.
Their identities were revealed this afternoon via an announcement video followed by a quick chat with series boss Masahiro Sakurai. He plays Minecraft in Survival mode, apparently, and we were treated to some screenshots.
Details on how exactly these Minecraft four will play are still to come - though we don't have long to wait. A "Battle with Steve and Alex" gameplay video will be broadcast at 3.30pm UK time this Saturday, 3rd October.
Horace, one of the gaming highlights of 2019, is finally making its way to console, with a Switch version announced for release on October 21st.
The work of developer Paul Helman and programmer Sean Scaplehorn, Horace is a dazzling platformer that goes to some surprising places - several, in fact, over the course of its generous running time (it's that extended run-time which meant we were unable to get a review to you last year - something I'm hoping we'll be able to rectify this time out).
The story behind Horace's development is pretty interesting itself, too, and the game provides a window into the frenetic mind of its creator Helman. I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted with it all soon!
In this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, we discuss a handful of the games we've been playing recently, including: Star Wars: Squadrons, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, NHL 21, Path of Exile, and Hades. Next, we interview Intellivision Entertainment president Tommy Tallarico about his time in the industry writing video game music, hosting the TV show Electric Playground, and producing the upcoming Amico console. Finally, we close the show with another fantastic round of community emails and GI's Meaningless Character rankings. So please join Andrew Reiner, Jeff Cork, Kim Wallace, Alex Stadnik, and myself for another wild and ever-entertaining episode!
It's been a hot minute since we've had Super Smash Bros. Ultimate news, but a new fighter is finally on the way. As confirmed by this morning's Smash Direct, Minecraft Steve has officially joined the fight, as well as a playable Enderman and Alex.
Ultimate has truly lived up to its name with its largest roster to-date, including many characters Nintendo fans never thought they'd see added. Because of this, fans have had some pretty ambitious picks for who they would like to see added, including Halo's Master Chief when Nintendo and Microsoft began working more closely together at the start of 2018.

The launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator has made me very aware that I don’t have a flight throttle and stick, but I’m not committed enough to buy one. Turns out, you don’t need to. Just fire up the 3D printer you definitely have, and you can print out a HOTAS that snaps onto an Xbox One controller and connects to its trigger and thumbstick. That’s the wild new creation from Akaki Kuumeri, who has even shared the schematics so we can all spin filament into a HOTAS on our own 3D printers.

So...Steve in Smash Bros. Ultimate, huh? Great. I have no dog in this Smash Bros. fight—while I don’t hate that Steve was announced, I was personally hoping for Overwatch hero Tracer, especially after this cryptic tweet from the Overwatch League a few days ago. Whatever your thoughts are on Steve, what I truly hope is…
PS4, Xbox One and PC players of Apex Legends will soon be able to shoot and ping together, development studio Respawn Entertainment and publisher EA announced today.
Hades doesn’t really start until you beat it. In many roguelikes, you’re encouraged to play through the game ad infinitum. Hades is no different. Once you beat the final boss (well, for the first time), a new gameplay mechanic opens up, and the game fundamentally changes.
