Call of Duty Modern Warfare & Warzone: Full Season 5 Details Revealed

3 years 8 months ago
Call of Duty Modern Warfare's Season 5 begins on Friday, August 5, and the full details include major changes to the Warzone map, unlockable music tracks for vehicles, new multiplayer maps, and much more. After weeks of teases, Season 5 arrives in a massive patch (that will apparently shrink your game file), and we have all the major details below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=call-of-duty-warzone-season-5-images&captions=true"]

Warzone Season 5 - Map Changes

  • The Stadium Opens: After 4 seasons closed, Verdansk Stadium has now opened up, featuring a cover-strewn football pitch, rows of seating, underground parking and multiple routes of entrance and exit.
  • Freight Train Added: A huge new train will now be circling the Southwestern part of the map at all times, allowing for an interesting new dynamic for squads, who could take it over and hold carriages while on the move.
  • Train Station Opens: To celebrate the addition of the train itself, the Verdansk Train Station is now also open, including a main ticket hall, platforms, and plenty of new indoor areas to explore.
  • Exterior Ascenders: Tall building roofs were previously only accessible by dropping form the air, or riding an elevator cable, making them relatively easily defensible.

Baldur's Gate 3 Will Miss August Release Date

3 years 8 months ago
Back in June, Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios said that the early access release of its Dungeons & Dragons RPG would happen in August. Maybe. Well, as the developer announced today, it turns out that maybe clause has come into effect. Baldur's Gate 3's early access release won't happen this month. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/13/baldurs-gate-3-new-guerrilla-collective-trailer"] Announced on Twitter, Larian said "BG3 won’t hit August, but it’s just around the corner." The studio does have a release date set, though, and will reveal it as part of the 'Panel From Hell', which takes place at 10am PT on August 18. Larian boss Swen Vincke will be joined by his team and Geoff Keighley to deliver the news.

Fortnite’s New Driveable Cars Set to Launch This Week, Epic Confirms

3 years 8 months ago

Fortnite’s third battle pass season is about to debut one of its most anticipated features. Joy Ride is a new update that’s set to introduce driveable cars for the first time in the game’s history, and Epic Games has now confirmed the content will launch tomorrow, Aug. 5.

As you can see in the tease below, the first vehicle seems to be called the Prevalent and has a rather retro, Miami-vice-like aesthetic.

Of course, this isn’t actually the first time we’ve seen Fortnite’s new vehicles in action. Some of our readers might remember the brief tease during Season 3’s reveal trailer back in June. For those who missed it, fast forward to the 45-second mark below to get yourself up to speed.

Apex Legends Starting New In-Game Event Next Week

3 years 8 months ago

Most players have been able to complete the final mission of Season 5’s new PvE Quest by now. There hasn’t exactly been much new content for the game in quite a while. Thankfully, Apex Legends is starting up a new in-game event next week.

This new Apex Legends event is actually a spin on an old one from January, and it’s called Always Be Closing Evolved. The event was announced on Twitter not too long ago. It’ll be live from Aug. 11 to Aug. 18.

True to its name, Always Be Closing had players face off against each other as the Ring closed continuously. Staying on the move is essential to stay alive because the Ring does a ton of damage in this mode.

Always Be Closing Evolved is the same concept, except players will drop in with an Evo Shield and a Mozambique to start the match.

Nothing more has been announced for Apex Legends besides this new event. There are only a couple weeks left in the current season, so Season 6 news should be right around the corner.

Be sure to check back in with us, as we’ll have all of the new info you’ll need on the game as it’s made available.

Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation Celebrates Ayane’s Birthday With The Usual Microtransactions

3 years 8 months ago

It’s already August 5 in Japan, which means that the free-to-play game Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation is celebrating Ayane’s birthday.

If you’re familiar with the game, you likely know what’s coming. There’s no better way to say “happy birthday!” than microtransactions.

We get the usual special costume within a paid-only gacha with a crazy low 1.1% SSR chance that is actually even worse (0.78%) if you want to get the featured outfit, because DMM and Koei Tecmo threw in older SSR costumes in the mix as well.

Since one paid gacha wouldn’t be enough, we also get a second with the same percentages featuring last year’s outfit.

Yet, that’s not all. Since Patty’s arbitrary “special day” celebration is still going on, we have a grand total of four paid-only gachas active at the same time.

Incidentally, the first gacha be included in the Steam version in English, which is behind in content by approximately a year. If you play that version, you get only one paid gacha. Lucky you!

You can check out a trailer below.

Take A Look At Overwatch's Summer Games 2020 Skins

3 years 8 months ago

Starting today and running through August 26, Overwatch players can unlock a variety of new hero skins themed after Summer Games. Karate Doomfist, Lifeguard Pharah, and Surf's Up Echo are just a few of the additions.

Players will also have the chance to participate in Lucioball Remix, a variation of the annual mode that Blizzard describes as a "faster, more chaotic, multi-ball version." In this Remix, two balls are in play, and bonus balls periodically spawn and are worth three points each. The game also doesn't stop after a goal; you just keep on going. The maps for Busan and Sydney feature more wall-riding opportunities and jump pad surfaces. Lucio also has new moves for this mode, such as the ability to crouch while mid-air to lunge down, and increased boop range.

The Summer Games event once again pushes players to earn wins in any mode to unlock epic skins. In week one, nine wins nets you the Union Jack Tracer Epic Skin. In week two, the same feat brings the reward of the Sand Castle Bastion Epic Skin. Week three's efforts get you the Ice Cream Orisa Epic Skin.

I think everyone would have wanted this giant Switch TV setup as a kid

3 years 8 months ago

As a kid, I had a hand-me-down TV from an uncle that I gamed with for many years. I was grateful as hell for it because I was a kid with my own TV. But I think everyone can relate to wishes of a "dream setup" for gaming, and this one from Redditor and parent Pjmonday takes the cake.

Yep, it's an LED 4K Toshiba 75-inch TV mounted on a wall inside of a Nintendo Switch-like replica. They were able to get the Switch crafted due to a friend's print shop. The two decals on the wall (Mario and the Skylanders element logos) are due to the interests of his two kids.

The room is not finished, Pjmonday says, but the storage below the TV is for holding one of his kid's Skylanders figures. PjMonday also clarifies that the Mario bricks were modified from this IKEA Kallax unit, custom made with a printed vinyl decal.

Resident Evil drives another hugely successful year for Capcom

3 years 8 months ago

Despite the tumultuous year that is 2020 causing multiple issues for companies and industries across the globe, it has also lead to a lot of at-home spending in the video game industry. We reported earlier today how PlayStation has seen a huge increase in year-on-year game sales in recent months, and it appears that the same can be said for long-time developer/publisher Capcom.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the 2020 quarter ending June 30 has seen Capcom report net sales of around $223 million USD, an increase of 37% on the same quarter in 2019. This leads to a net profit of around $73.5 million which itself is a huge increase of 44% on 2019. These results are almost entirely centered around 2020 video game sales, with brands such as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter enjoying healthy sales numbers.

Larian delays Baldur's Gate 3's August early access launch

3 years 8 months ago

If you've been struggling to suppress your understandable excitement as Baldur's Gate 3's previously announced August early access release approaches, you might want to take a seat - or, at the very least, prop yourself firmly against a wall; developer Larian Studios has revealed the enormously anticipated RPG won't be launching this month after all.

Larian initially announced an August early access launch for Baldur's Gate 3 back in June, noting that while the coronavirus pandemic had impacted development, it still believed August was a realistic release window. Unfortunately, the developer has now revised its schedule, confirming on Twitter that the game will no longer arrive this month as originally planned.

The good news is that Larian says Baldur's Gate 3 is still "just around the corner", and that a revised early access release date will be revealed - alongside other "big news" - during its Panel From Hell livestream event, set to be held on 18th August.

Marvel's Avengers Easter Egg Could Hint at Kate Bishop's Hawkeye Appearance

3 years 8 months ago
A recent Marvel's Avengers War Table may have contained an Easter Egg that hints at a future appearance by Kate Bishop's Hawkeye. Clint Barton's Hawkeye was recently confirmed to be joining Marvel's Avengers as a playable hero post-launch, and some concept art and a mention of the My Life as A Weapon comic may be teasing fans of a future appearance by Kate Bishop, as a playable hero or otherwise. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/29/hawkeye-reveal-trailer-for-marvels-avengers-4k"] Our detective work begins back at Marvel's Avengers first War Table where Kamala Khan finds an old photo of the Avengers Crew, which includes Tony Stark (Iron Man), Thor, Steve Rogers (Captain America), Natasha Romanova (Black Widow), Bruce Banner (Hulk), and Clint Barton (Hawkeye), standing together in their street clothes. As you can see in the image below, Hawkeye is sporting a bullseye logo. Old Photo This is important because in Hawkeye's official reveal, a different logo is shown. Crystal Dynamics Details Marvel’s Avengers’ Cosmetics, Community Challenges

3 years 8 months ago

The release of Marvel’s Avengers is drawing ever closer, and developer Crystal Dynamics has released some new info a few of the game’s key features to tide prospective players over in the meantime.

In a post to the official Sony PlayStation Blog made on Aug. 4, Crystal Dynamics’ community and social media manager Andy Wong detailed how the game’s community challenges and cosmetics would play into the title’s overall experience.

For the community challenges, players will be given tasks to complete each month alongside their fellow players. What the tasks entail can vary, and completion of them will earn the entire playerbase special rewards for their efforts.

“Although we won’t go into detail now on the exact goals and rewards, we can tell you that there will not be a difficult barrier of entry, so everyone can pitch in to reap the benefits of the reward,” Wong writes.

Cosmetics, meanwhile, will allow Marvel’s Avengers players to change the appearance of their heroes of choice and their Takedown attacks. Different cosmetics carry different levels of rarity, and players will be able to unlock them by completing story missions, collecting specific patterns throughout the game world and so on.

However, these cosmetics won’t impact the gameplay in any way other than appearance, and are only meant to change up the aesthetic of characters to the player’s liking.

Wong rounded out the reveals with information on some of the bonuses players will be privy to by playing the game on PlayStation 4. In addition to receiving a legendary outfit, emote, takedown and nameplate for the initial batch of launch heroes, PS4 players will also receive the same bonuses for each new hero released during the game’s run.

Overwatch Summer Games is Back With New Skins and Lucioball Remix

3 years 8 months ago

The 2020 Summer Olympics won’t be taking place at all this year in real life, but that isn’t stopping Overwatch from holding their annual Olympics-themed Summer Games event.

This year’s Overwatch Summer Games event will last from Aug. 4 to Aug. 25. So, starting today, players will be able to participate in weekly challenges while earning a number of new skins and other items for a variety of characters.

These rewards include the new Sand Castle Bastion (Epic) and Surf’s Up Echo (Legendary), alongside cosmetics for Tracer, Baptiste, Orisa, Pharah, Ashe, and more.

Lucioball Remix puts a spin on the fan favorite game mode for this year’s Overwatch Summer Games. First of all, adjustments have been made to the Busan and Sydney arenas.

The speed of the gameplay has also been increased, with multiple balls worth different point values periodically spawning in. Multiple balls being in play at the same time with increased speed, might force players to use a bit more focus and skill than they were previously used to.

Baldur's Gate 3's Early Access launch is technically delayed but not by much

3 years 8 months ago

At one of the many pseudo-E3 replacement streams, Larian founder and CEO Swen Vincke boldly told fans that the studio is trying to get Baldur's Gate 3 into Early Access in August. It was a confident approach to a not-confident situation. Vincke acknowledged that COVID-19 hurdles made that August target a big old question mark, but Larian was trying anyway.

Shoot for the moon and you'll land among the stars... or something like that. Baldur's Gate 3 won't make August, and no one really blames Larian for that. It is, however, coming shortly thereafter.

Overwatch has eight skins for Summer Games 2020 including Lifeguard Pharah

3 years 8 months ago

We made it to another Overwatch Summer Games event! If you're over Lucioball – there's several refinements for 2020 and a faster Remix mode with two balls on the field – then there's always skins.

The Internet has fallen head over heels for Lifeguard Pharah, and I'm not about to go against the grain.

Other Legendary skins for Summer Games 2020 include Tropical Baptiste, Feskarn Brigitte, Surf's Up Echo, and my second favorite, Karate Doomfist, which makes me wish I was better with his combos under pressure. Blizzard is also giving out three Overwatch skins in weekly challenge events.

Fall Guys' launch was a little too successful for its own good

3 years 8 months ago

Today sees the launch of Mediatonic's chaotic Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, the wacky multiplayer game that sees armies of curious characters race through a challenging obstacle course in efforts to be the last... erm... "thing" standing. Unfortunately, it seems that this wild release has proved a little too popular, crashing player servers within hours of launch.

Speaking on Twitter, Mediatonic said that the player count had "skyrocketed" past expectations, with some 120,000 players all logging in to the PS4 edition during the game's opening hours. Ultimately, the developer was forced to turn off matchmaking and frantically get to work on "beefing up" the servers in order to cope with the ongoing demand.

[Update: The developers have disabled matchmaking while they "scale up and optimise."]

Yakuza: Like A Dragon's Battle Menu Spells Out SEGA Thanks To Twitter Joke

3 years 8 months ago

Video games are made by teams of dozens, if not hundreds of people, and that means that every aspect of a given game has likely passed through many hands before it gets revealed to the public. Still, sometimes it takes an outsider to see the obvious. This was the case with the battle menu for the upcoming Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and the results are quite amusing.

Back in June, John Ricciardi--the co-founder of notable localization company 8-4--joked in a tweet that translators should change the battle menu of the eighth Yakuza game to spell SEGA. Well, as a recent behind-the-scenes video revealed, it appears that the localization team took Ricciardi's advice.
