Xbox Series X Price Prediction: Here's How Much We Think It Will Cost

3 years 11 months ago

For years, Microsoft has been setting the foundation for its next-gen console, Xbox Series X. After having to recover from the blunder of the Xbox One's launch, the company has spent the latter years of this past console generation catering more to the consumer by advocating cross-platform play and backwards compatibility and expanding its service model with things like Xbox Game Pass and the still-in-development Project xCloud.

Still, as we learn more about Xbox Series X's architecture, its games, and what Microsoft has in mind for the future it wishes to cultivate with the console, we still don't know how much it'll cost. Until Xbox Series X launches this holiday, our imaginations will likely continue to run wild, wondering about potential price points--at least until Microsoft finally confirms it during one its Xbox 20/20 streams.

Below you can find a handful of predictions from the team, addressing our thoughts on the subject and how much we'd personally pay for Microsoft's next console, but do let us know your predictions in the comments.

Xbox Series X: Microsoft Does Believe In Generations, Just Differently Than Sony

3 years 11 months ago

The Xbox Series X is shaping up to be a powerhouse system when it launches this holiday season, but Microsoft is taking a very different approach than Sony is regarding game exclusivity and the concept of console generations. If you want to stick with your Xbox One for now, you can, and you'll be able to take past generations of games with you to the new console.

In a tweet on May 29, Xbox games marketing GM Aaron Greenberg stressed that "generations of games" will play on the latest hardware and that it would offer value and choice that we haven't seen from a console launch before. Because next-generation upgrades for Xbox Game Studios titles are free, you'll be able to get them later if you can't get the Xbox Series X immediately.

Play (Part Of) Halo 3 On PC Starting Next Month

3 years 11 months ago

Halo 3 is the next game coming to Halo: The Master Chief Collection on PC and those in the Halo Insiders program will be able to play it, or at least a piece of it, very soon. 343 Industries is planning to do a test flight for a selection of campaign missions and multiplayer content, and you'll even get to "Finish the Fight."

Starting in the first half of June, Halo: The Master Chief Collection players in the Halo Insiders program can access Halo 3's content, regardless of whether they're playing via the Microsoft Store or Steam. The following campaign missions are included:

  • Sierra 117
  • The Storm
  • The Ark
  • The Covenant
  • Halo

The titular Halo mission is the final mission in Halo 3, so we don't suggest playing through these quite yet if you haven't already beaten the game on Xbox 360 or Xbox One. Multiplayer options include custom, social, and competitive games, Team Hardcore, Team Slayer, and Team Doubles modes, and several different maps. Classics like Guardian, The Pit, and Valhalla are included in the test flight, and both Forge and the theater will be available for creative-minded players.

Mon Amour is the smooch 'em up we could all use right now

3 years 11 months ago

The annual Japanese indie festival BitSummit is going digital this year and is bringing fans 75 games from some of Japan's most prolific developers. Onion Games, which has had a presence at the festival many times in the past, will be on hand to show off its newest title, Mon Amour. Featuring that signature Onion Games art style, Mon Amour puts players in control of Baron Beard as he goes about rescuing the citizens of the Cavacava Kingdom using just his (insert Prince guitar riff) kiss.

Onion Games describes it as an "insta-death kissing game." As of right now, there is no release date set, but interested parties will be able to experience a demo for it in one way or another during BitSummit Gaiden on June 27 and 28. While there isn't a release date, a platform has already been decided. Mon Amour will launch on Nintendo Switch, which is a platform Onion Games has done pretty well on for itself.

Hideo Kojima insists Death Stranding was a sales success

3 years 11 months ago

Hideo Kojima has insisted Death Stranding was a sales success, and has enabled Kojima Productions to fund its unannounced second project.

In an interview with Japanese website Livedoor (translated by VGC), the Metal Gear Solid creator said: "We've absolutely crossed the line we needed to cross to be in the black, including recovering development costs, so I'd call it a successful result.

"We still have the PC release coming up, and we've secured enough to begin preparing for our next project, so there's no need to worry."

Cyberpunk Horror Game Sense Is Content-Complete; Will Likely Release in August

3 years 11 months ago

Suzaku just released an update about its upcoming game Sense – 不祥的预感: A Cyberpunk Ghost Story.

According to the developer, the game should now be content-complete, and only “a small number of assets” on the art end remain to be done, including “some cutscene animations, props, and some remaining music/sfx.”

That being said, that should not take more than 2-3 weeks to finish. QA testing is underway and will continue until the first week of June. After that, the developer will make a firm decision on the release date based on feedback.

This means that the PC release will “likely” have to be pushed back to August, which would mean a simultaneous launch with the console versions. On the other hand, the PS Vita version should be completely unaffected. More news should come around June 6, and the Steam demo should also get an update.

“This means that we, unfortunately, will likely push back the PC digital release until August. The good news is that if such, the PC release will simul-release along the console versions, as they were already planned to release in that time-frame. Do not worry, we will still need to have the game complete and sent to the various platforms for their QA and approvals by early July to make sure that our logistics all work out as planned.

Star Citizen Trailer Shows Cutlass Blue Police Ship as Developers Discuss Salvaging Gameplay

3 years 11 months ago

Star Citizen’s development team at Cloud Imperium Games released a new trailer and a new video discussing the upcoming salvaging gameplay features.

Star Citizen is a game in which ship-to-ship combat happens very often, and at the moment destroyed ships simply fade out of existence.

That being said, the game’s developers envision a future in which all that sweet scrap will be a source of riches for players willing to go out and seize it.

The video features an interesting talk on what we can expect for this kind of gameplay when it’ll be gradually implemented in the game, on top of details about the ship resource management system that is a prerequisite for the implementation of salvaging.

On top of that, the new trailer shows the Drake Cutlass Blue, the law enforcement version of the Cutlass by Drake, which is rather ironic considering that the brand is mostly known for being a favorite among pirates and outlaws.

Now, if only the game’s no fly zones wouldn’t prevent us from flying like that among the skyscrapers of ArcCorp…

Get sky high with latest Arcade Archives release, Crazy Climber 2

3 years 11 months ago

Retro-fans Hamster continues with its efforts to bring the catalogue of obscure '80s developer Nichibutsu to a modern audience. This week's Arcade Archives release is Crazy Climber 2, now available to download on Nintendo Switch.

Released exclusively to the Japanese arcade market in 1988, Crazy Climber 2 was the sequel to Nichibutsu's own skyscraper-scaling classic, which had launched eight years earlier. While retaining the original title's control system and concepts, Crazy Climber 2 had much improved visuals, music, and sound. The sequel also included new features such as multiple routes, animated billboards, and bonuses to be earned by carousing with gals sat precariously on windowsills.

You can check out the action in the video below, courtesy of VideoGameObsession.

The Dark Eye: Book Of Heroes Gets New Trailer All About the Black Boar Inn

3 years 11 months ago

Developer Random Potion and Publisher Wild River Games released a new trailer of the upcoming RPG The Dark Eye: Book of Heroes.

The trailer focuses on the Black Boar Inn, which basically serves as a hub for the game where you can enjoy the tutorial, hire henchmen, choose your adventure, find an online session, and more.

While many may not be very familiar with The Dark Eye franchise, it’s the most successful tabletop RPG in Germany, where it surpasses Dungeons & Dragons in terms of popularity.

There have been plenty of video games dedicated to the series in the past, often dubbed with the North American name Realms of Arkania, but they have remained relatively obscure on the worldwide stage like the original RPG itself.

You can check out the trailer below.

The Dark Eye: Book of Heroes will be released on June 9 on Steam. You can also watch another trailer, and another featuring character creation.

20 years after its release, it's time to play Daikatana

3 years 11 months ago

John Romero and Ion Storm's FPS Daikatana was released 20 years ago and it's regarded as one of the biggest failures in video game history. Nowadays, we remember its infamous advertisement warning us that "John Romero's about to make you his bitch," its delays and its poor reviews. Maybe we also remember the controversies surrounding Ion Storm itself.

We remember its myth, but we don't remember Daikatana. While Ion Storm expected to sell more than 2 million copies, Daikatana is a game few people actually played. For its 20th anniversary, it's time to see what Daikatana has to offer now, beyond legends and prejudices.
