Bungie Teases the Pyramid Ships’ Arrival in Destiny 2 With New Mysterious Audio File

3 years 11 months ago

The official Destiny 2 Twitter today tweeted out a mysterious audio file which aside from just being spooky, clearly depicts the pyramid ships that have been slowly making their way through the solar system and are presumably are now right on the door step of Earth and The Last City.

This has been a long time coming. We’ve been hearing about the darkness and the collapse since the original Destiny. The ending of the vanilla Destiny 2 teased the awakening of the dormant pyramid ships, and the Shadowkeep campaign had us literally visit one that was hidden deep inside the moon.

As for the audio itself? Well, it’s uh… pretty edgy. It’s a lot of spooky sounds that you’d hear in a haunted house during Halloween. It’s pretty hard to really make anything of it.

R.L. Stine's popular children's horror book series Goosebumps is coming to consoles in video game form. Cosmic Forces is partnering with Sony Pictures and Scholastic to create Goosebumps: Dead of Night, which will be released this Summer for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. As you can see in the official announcement trailer above, Goosebumps: Dead of Night is a first-person survival horror game, and its premise involves known Goosebumps villain Slappy the Dummy stealing classic pages from the book series, resulting in a horde of monsters setting out to look for you. Expect puzzle solving and the occasional jump-scare, and actor Jack Black, who is no stranger to video games (Brutal Legend), voices RL Stine. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 announces the coming of Charlotte Cracker

3 years 11 months ago

As revealed by the latest issue of Japanese magazine Weekly Jump, the second DLC character headed to Bandai Namco's brawler One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 will be Charlotte Cracker, joining fellow Sweet Commander Charlotte Smoothie in-game later this year.

As their name denotes, Charlotte Cracker is the (checks notes) Minister of Biscuit, responsible for the governing of (checks again) Biscuit Island. Alongside Charlotte's Smoothie and Katakuri, the three Sweet Commanders wreak havoc in the name of the Big Mom Pirates, wreaking havoc with their armies and weaponry based on delightful snack treats. I'm so old.

There are no images nor in-game footage of Charlotte Cracker in action as of yet, but Weekly Jump does note that he is a speed-type character, able to conjure up an almost-infinite number of biscuit soldiers with which to do his bidding. Charlotte Cracker will be made available as part of Pirate Warriors 4's Character Pack, and surely the unholy trinity will be complete with Charlotte Katakuri at some point down the line.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is available now on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

With another month in the bag and the weekend ahead of us, you might be looking for a new and exciting game to get stuck into.

I've got a handful of awesome game bargains for you right here, whether you call the PS4, Xbox One or Switch your home.

Let's start with Nier Automata, a game I can't help but forever shower with praise. It's a wondrous, imaginative and absorbing mix from the eccentric Yoko Taro and those masters of action Platinum Games. An RPG that demands your attention - even more so now it's at such an incredibly low price on PS4. The Game of the Yorha Edition includes some fittingly strange DLC, featuring additional costume packs and boss battles against heads at Square Enix and Platinum.

Ghost of Tsushima has hunting, three difficulties, and 'no karma system'

3 years 11 months ago

Sucker Punch Productions covered a lot of ground in the State of Play event for Ghost of Tsushima, but like any big open-world adventure, fans want to know about the tidbits – the little details that add up.

Do you have to play as either a ghost or a samurai, or can you do both? How difficult is the combat? Can Jin swim around, Assassin's Creed style? And what's up with the little white circles in the HUD? The studio fielded those questions and more in a wide-ranging Q&A posted to the PlayStation Blog.

It's not the most important topic, but my favorite answer relates to the horse. Asked if you can have different horses, creative director Jason Connell replied that the horse is "Jin's partner," and "early in the game, there is an opportunity to choose the horse you want to go on this adventure with."

He also confirmed that you can mix and match armor pieces and hunt animals – but don't worry. The adorable fox from the State of Play is fine. "While there are unique animals in Tsushima that are there to help guide Jin in his adventures, there are also a few predators that will be aggressive," according to Connell. "Upgrade resources can be collected from these specific animals once defeated."

Nate Fox, the director, answered a range of questions. I'll highlight a few that stood out.

Minecraft Dungeons Is Refreshingly Lightweight for a Looter Game

3 years 11 months ago

Despite not being a fan of Minecraft itself, when Minecraft Dungeons released for consoles and PC last week, I was instantly intrigued. With how open the concept and branding of Minecraft can be, it made sense for Mojang to take the franchise towards the direction of the looter genre, and perhaps surprisingly to absolutely no one at all, it works well. And going even further beyond that, it works amazingly well on the Nintendo Switch.

As a huge fan of grindy games that just encourage you to hunt down better loot, the Switch has always struck me as the perfect platform for that genre. We’ve already got Diablo III, the ultimate loot grind game, as well as several other RPGs that feature similar gameplay loops. But while Diablo III is a prime example of how compelling the looter genre can be, it’s always felt like a massive time commitment.

This is probably due to the sheer variety in gameplay, with multiple classes to choose from, skills to master, and just the overwhelming amount of loot that gets thrown at you right from the beginning. It’s always tempting to just equip whatever has the highest number attached to it, but then you’ve got to think about enchantments and upgrades or you might inadvertently put yourself at a disadvantage in combat by equipping the wrong stuff.

Not to mention the fact that it can take a while to reach the Rift dungeons or complete the main story for the first time before you can start the proper grind; Diablo III is deep.

And that’s where Minecraft Dungeons comes in as a worthy complement to Blizzard’s daunting loot game.

Harvest Moon: One World reveals box art, is headed to PS4 and Switch this fall

3 years 11 months ago

Publisher Natsume has confirmed that the next release in the charmin' farmin' Harvest Moon series will arrive on PS4 in North America this fall, alongside the previously announced Nintendo Switch release.

Natsume confirmed the NA localisation on Twitter, while giving us our first look at the new entry's inspiring box art. In an accompanying press release, the publisher spoke of the series' prior appearances on a variety of Sony platforms.

"We are excited to share the first look at the new art for Harvest Moon: One World, which gives you a sneak peek at the vast world filled with mystery, challenges, new friends, and farming fun that awaits players," said Natsume CEO Hiro Maekawa. "We are also excited to officially confirm it is coming to the PlayStation 4 alongside the Switch. The Harvest Moon franchise has a long history on the Sony platforms including releases on the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, 3, and 4 as well as the PS Vita and PSP."

Harvest Moon: One World will once again offer up a challenging-yet-tranquil farming experience, as players build up their land, grow crops, rear stock, ward off predators, and ensure deliveries to the local townsfolk, making friends and perhaps even finding a little romance. Powered by a brand new game engine, One World hopes to be the biggest Harvest Moon release to date, encompassing locations outside of your humble little town for a true country-hopping experience.

Harvest Moon: One World launches this fall on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The release did not denote a PS4 launch in territories outside of North America, but there is always the possibility that Natsume is just working out the red-tape for global localisation.

Dishonored: Original Story ‘Complete,’ But Series Is Not On Hold

3 years 11 months ago
Arkane has revealed that the original story of the Dishonored series is “complete”, but the franchise has not been put on hold, as per previous reports. In an interview with IGN Middle East, Arkane Studio’s Co-Creative Director Dinga Bakaba set the record straight about a previous quote from Arkane’s Ricardo Bare, who said in 2018 that Dishonored was “resting for now.” This led fans to believe that the future of the series was uncertain, with outlets reporting that the series had been put on hold. ”It’s weird because for us as a studio, we never did a sequel to a game we made before,” Bakaba told IGN Middle East. “It was interesting to make and everything, but the rumors of putting the IP on hold was highly exaggerated and was misquoted” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/10/deathloop-cinematic-reveal-trailer-e3-2019"] Bakaba believes that Bare’s quote was ”over-interpreted.” “I don’t think there was a decision to put [the] Dishonored series on hold,“ he explained. While Arkane has wrapped up the storyline concerning Emily Kaldwin and Corvo Attano and believes the narrative to be complete, this doesn't mean that there can't be any more games in the Dishonored universe in the future. "It’s something where we had a story to tell about the Kaldwins and the Outsider, and that story is over,” he said “So, whatever happens, that Dishonored is complete. This is the best, and most honest answer we can give but, in any case, I don’t think we will be revisiting that [the Kaldwin storyline].

The Last of Us Part II’s Returning Stalker Enemies Should Have You Nervous

3 years 11 months ago

In The Last of Us, Naughty Dog gave us a pretty good rundown of how the cordyceps infection works. When you get infected, the stages progress like this: Runner, Stalker, Clicker, Bloater, then you eventually die.

Wait, Stalker? What’s that? –I hear you ask. The Stalker was only present in a handful of stages in the first game, but with the release of The Last of Us Part II coming up very soon, they could very well live up to their full potential in the sequel.

The Stalker is an enemy type that you can fight in a few stages in The Last of Us: the basement hotel, the sewers, and the underground tunnel. If you’ve only played through the game casually once or twice, there’s a good chance you wouldn’t even know the difference between Runners and Stalkers, especially since they behave very similarly.

Essentially, Stalkers are a smarter version of Runners; instead of charging straight at you when they spot you, Stalkers are supposed to be quieter and more cunning. They’ll observe you from afar and only strike when you’re not looking.

That said, the first game never really adhered to those rules at all. Stalkers would lurk, sure, but give them a few seconds and they’d eventually come out of hiding and run straight at you… like Runners do.

In fact, it’s only in the hotel basement that the Stalkers act like they’re supposed to. As you’re looking around for the key card, you’ll hear guttural sounds all around you but you’d never be able to pinpoint the source. If you turn around fast enough, you might catch a glimpse of a Stalker running around a corner, but you’d never be able to catch it. That’s part of what makes that sequence so harrowing, but that terror is absent for most of the game.

Report: New PS4 Games Must Be Compatible With PS5 in Future

3 years 11 months ago
Sony has reportedly told developers that PS4 games submitted for certification from July 13 onwards must be forwards compatible with PS5. PS4 versions of The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima will also apparently be compatible with PS5. Per a report from Eurogamer, developer documentation on Sony's internal Partner website now includes a step that must be checked, saying that the game has been tested for compatibility with PS5. That compatibility apparently means that the PS4 game's code must run without issues on a PS5, and the game must include all the same features. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-playstation-5-games&captions=true"] Sony is also seemingly "strongly" recommending that any patch or remaster for a game submitted before July 13 would allow for PS5 compatibility. Any patch for a game submitted after that cut-off must ensure the game remains compatible with PS5. There's a difference between submission and release - games are submitted for certification well before release, so some games arriving after that cut-off date could still be non-compatible with PS5. However, Eurogamer also reports that it has heard that The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima - Sony's final major PS4 exclusives, and neither of which will have hit that cut-off point - will be supported on PS5. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/ps5-conference-coming-soon-ign-daily-fix"] We may learn more about this very soon, with an unannounced PS5 conference reportedly schedule for as early as next week.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition Launch Trailer Dives Into Shulk’s Past

3 years 11 months ago

Nintendo has released the launch trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition today that gives viewers a bit of insight into Shulk’s past and how he managed to get his hands on the mystical Monado blade.

As a spiffed-up remaster of the 2010 (2012 in the West) Wii JRPG from Monolith Soft, the game features an all-new epilogue with additional hours of content, almost 100 remastered music tracks, revamped visuals, and several quality-of-life improvements.

You can watch the launch trailer down below:

Our review for Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition was published just yesterday by our Reviews Editor Zhiqing and while she enjoyed the combat system and the graphical upgrades, she found the open world to be a bit too massive for its own good and there are also way too many fetch quests.

Monolith Soft is currently working on an unannounced title and it’s apparently been in development for quite some time now.

New Super Lucky’s Tale Is Coming to PS4 & Xbox One This Summer

3 years 11 months ago

Following a tease earlier this month, Playful Studios has today confirmed its acclaimed 3D platformer New Super Lucky’s tale is coming to PS4 and Xbox One later this summer. No specific release date has yet been confirmed, but we do know that it’ll receive both a physical and digital launch.

The news comes by way of a press release from publisher PQube.

For the initiated, New Super Lucky’s Tale sees players take control of the titular fox as he helps his sister protect the mysterious Book of Ages. It’s intended as a love letter to classic 3D platformers like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, featuring a gameplay loop that sees players work toward gather collectibles and searching for secrets across several challenging stages.

As you’d expect from a mascot platformer, the story features memorable characters to meet, a whimsical story, and a bunch of stylish costumes to show off. It’s a family-friendly experience.

New Super Lucky’s Tale is an expanded version of the original game that launched back in 2017. Twinfinite reviewed it at launch and wasn’t overly impressed, but it’s a much-improved package in its new form and well worth checking out if you enjoy games like Yooka-Laylee and A Hat in Time.

Here’s the accolades trailer from its Nintendo Switch release last year to prove it:
