2 years 10 months ago

Changing Tides sends players on a fresh bout of genteel side-scrolling vehicular management. This time, however, instead of embarking on a tank-y trundle across a dried-out ocean, they'll be following the horizon for some boat-based adventure above and beneath the waves.

"Set sail and discover the wonders of a flooded world filled with mystery," explains Okomotive. "Traverse the ruins of a once great society and use the pieces from its past to build a brighter future. Dive into unknown depths on the hunt for precious fuel and salvage, devise innovative solutions to overcome intricate obstacles, and unearth forgotten relics lost to time."

BioWare Names Gary McKay As New Studio General Manager

2 years 10 months ago

Gary McKay has offiically been named the permanent BioWare studio general manager following the departure of Casey Hudson. He stepped into an interim role following Hudson's departure and after careful deliberation, he's staying in this role going forward.

McKay joined the BioWare family back in January of last year as the head of development operations. In December, he was brought in to be the acting generation manager until this point where it has become something a little more permanent. “I started my career in the industry with EA back in 1998,” he said in a statement about his new role, “and it was so exciting to see the studio and company grow in the early days. I spent the next seven years with EA before moving on. But now you could say I’ve come full circle.”

“I’m so grateful for this opportunity,” he added. “When you spend over 20 years in the industry, there are a small handful of studios on your bucket list in terms of teams you’d want to work with — and BioWare is at the top of my list. This studio is unique in that it has an incredible history of building critically successful games and universes that are truly beloved by so many fans. For me, success is all about rebuilding that reputation, and delivering on that promise of quality.”

Coromon Interview: TRAGsoft Talks Inspirations, Story, & Release Window

2 years 10 months ago

Coromon is one of the few new games trying to break into the monster tamer/creature collector genre, and it has a number of unique mechanics, an interesting story, and a modernized retro style.

To learn more about this upcoming RPG adventure, Twinfinite interviewed developer TRAGsoft’s lead developer Jochem Pouwels, and story writer Marcel van der Made.

Ethan: The genre of monster tamer game feels like it’s been monopolized for a while now. What made you want to create your own game in the genre?

Jochem Pouwels: It actually started seven years ago. That’s when the first drafts were being made. At the time, we really loved the games we played in the GBA era — games like Golden Sun, Zelda, but also Pokemon, indeed. We wanted to make a game in the same genre because we were not seeing that a lot anymore. A game where there’s a lot of things to explore in the world, a lot of charm, a lot of secrets…all kinds of things we love.

Ethan: What was one of the main things you felt like you needed to focus on for Coromon to stand out in the genre?

Jochem Pouwels: I think, especially the story. The narrative in Coromon really feels different than any other monster tamer game. It can be more compared to, I think, a Golden Sun or a Zelda. You start out pretty casually, but eventually, the stakes really get high and there’s a really intense story behind it. I think that’s the most prominent thing.

There’s also tons of differences. You can make so many little details within the monster tamer formula. It doesn’t really need to be a Pokemon-like game.

Ethan: Is there anything you’ve made sure to really pay attention to when trying to modernize a classic style of RPG?

Telling Lies developer's next game is Immortality, about a missing movie star

2 years 10 months ago

The developer of swell narrative games Her Story and Telling Lies teased his next project last summer with a rather redacted store page. Half Mermaid and Sam Barlow's next game, Immortality, has now been slightly more revealed to be a story about the disappearance of movie star Marissa Marcel. We don't know much more than that, but it sure does sound like another twisty mystery is in store.

Forza Horizon 5 Stream Reveals New Modes, Customizations, & More

2 years 10 months ago

Earlier today, a livestream on the Forza YouTube channel went in-depth with the Forza Horizon 5 Creative Director, Mike Brown, and Associate Art Director, Conar Cross. This comes right after the big announcement of the game itself in yesterday’s Bethesda & Xbox Presentation.

Right off the bat, Brown and Cross talked about how Forza Horizon 5 is going to feature the biggest open world ever featured in a Forza Horizon game. However, the two didn’t go into detail on exactly how big it will be.

After that, they replayed the trailer shown off yesterday which you can check out right here.

Brown talked a little bit about the very early planning process, “Right from the start we knew we wanted to make the biggest horizon ever.” And pretty early on they settled on the setting, “Mexico is a country that is like a whole world in one country.”

The reason why explained it that way is that this area of Mexico has sweltering beaches, snowy mountains, boiling volcanoes, several types of deserts, a city with very vibrant architecture, and so much more. There’s plenty of inspiration there for the developers to make a truly beautiful world to drive around.

And the logical progression is just making everything look more realistic. And as Cross put it, “Ray tracing is … the next step to photorealism.” He also mentioned that every ray traced reflection will be a one-to-one representation of the original object with no decreased pixel counts or blurred textures.

2 years 10 months ago

Click here to watch embedded media

With the Nintendo E3 2021 showcase set for this Tuesday, June 15, I can't help but to think about what I'd want to see the Big N share. With so many Legend of Zelda fans begging for Breath of the Wild 2 news, I put together a very serious, very hardcore wish list for what I'd like to see in the sequel. And by that, I mean a chance for me to call Nintendo cowards for not letting Zelda be playable and to talk about shark himbos.

So anyway, here's what I want from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 outside of a working title.

Flight Simulator supports 30fps, cross-save, and cross-play on Xbox Series X/S

2 years 10 months ago

Following yesterday's release date reveal for Flight Simulator on Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft has shared a few additional details - including confirmation that it'll run at 30fps on console - via the time-honoured mediums of FAQ and Twitter.

Those frame rate details come via the official Microsoft Flight Simulator Twitter feed, which, in response to queries from a number of curious punters, confirmed that Xbox Series X/S players can expect a base frame rate of 30fps. It noted, however, that frame rates above 30fps are possible on TVs supporting variable refresh rates (VRR).

Over on the official Flight Simulator's FAQ, meanwhile, most additional details provided aim to clarify questions around how the console edition will interact with the version already released on PC, and confirm, for instance, that those who own the Windows Store version on PC won't need to purchase the console edition again.

5 Unanswered Questions We Have After Xbox & Bethesda’s E3 2021 Showcase

While a lot of the conferences we’ve seen during E3 2021 have been somewhat lackluster, there is no denying that Xbox and Bethesda’s showcase was great. Alongside plenty of day one Xbox Game Pass reveals, the companies showed off some pretty impressive exclusives as well.

Icarus, Dean Hall’s New Survival Game, Drops In August

2 years 10 months ago

Last year’s PC Gaming Show teased the reveal of Icarus, a new survival game by DayZ creator, Dean Hall and his team RocketWerkz. We were treated to the full reveal back in April, and during this year's PC Gaming Show we learned that Icarus is launching this August.

Icarus is a survival game with a twist. Up to eight players drop together from space on an Earth-like planet to mine exotic resources, build settlements, and complete objectives. You’ll also have to contend with local wildlife and the elements themselves. Icarus’ main hook is that it’s session-based. You can only stay on the planet for a limited time (hours, days, or weeks depending on the mission) before you and your crew have to return to orbit, bringing along any valuables you find. Stay too long, and you lose everything for good.

Once you return, you can craft new tech and upgrade your characters to make them stronger and, thus, able to survive longer and tackle bigger challenges during the next drop. This creates a uniquely looping sense of progression. Check out the latest gameplay trailer from the PC Gaming Show below.

Does the Starfield trailer tease The Elder Scrolls 6's setting?

2 years 10 months ago

Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI way back at E3 2018, then promptly started saying "Sorry, what, I can't hear you, gotta go" and leaving whenever anyone raised it again, or making beeping noises with their mouth then saying "Excuse me, I have a phone call". They did not show TES6 at E3 2021 either, instead focusing on Starfield, but their new sci-fi RPG's trailer might possibly be hiding a clue to TES6's setting. You see, tiny marks on one spaceship console do look like a map of High Rock and Hammerfell.
