Activision Blizzard employees press ahead with walkout, say Kotick statement "fails to address critical elements"

2 years 9 months ago

Organisers of today's staff walkout at Activision Blizzard are pressing ahead with the protest, saying the statement released by company boss Bobby Kotick overnight "fails to address critical elements at the heart of the employee concerns".

Activision Blizzard employees announced strike action last night, in protest against the company's response to a recent lawsuit from California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing which alleged a "frat boy" work culture that created "a breeding ground for harassment and discrimination against women".

Activision Blizzard immediately went on the offensive when news of the lawsuit initially hit the headlines, calling it "irresponsible behaviour from unaccountable State bureaucrats that are driving many of the State's best businesses out of California". Senior company executive Fran Townsend later doubled down on the attack in an email to all employees, describing the legal action as "truly meritless and irresponsible".

PUBG leaks suggest it’s going free-to-play, and getting a zombie survival mode

2 years 9 months ago

Playerunknown's Battlegrounds has so far avoided the route that Fortnite ran with until it had all the money in the world. But an upcoming and (currently unannounced) free week could test the waters for a full-on free-to-play switcheroo.

New Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Trailer Is Filled With Action

2 years 9 months ago

Earlier this morning, the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel dropped a new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings the next movie in the MCU franchise. There are a number of shots throughout the trailer that had been shown off before, but a few new clips are sprinkled in here and there as well.

Early on in the trailer, they reiterate how important the ten rings are to Shang-Chi’s family. You can hear Shang-Chi’s father (Wenwu) talking about how they give them power while the video shows Wenwu going to town on whole armies with thanks to the ten rings.

Throughout the rest of the trailer, there are numerous intense action shots feating Shang-Chi taking on goons while the voiceover focuses on the internal struggle of the hero. That being the fact that Wenwu is a bit of an antognistic force in the world. Despite the immense pressure from his father, Shang-Chi doesn’t want to follow in his footsteps down the same path of evil.

Near the end of the trailer when Shang-Chi is facing down Wenwu, you can see a few rings around the hero while his father still appears to have all ten rings. It’s unclear what these extra rings are something different or if it’s just a bit of trailer editing showing multiple different shots out of order.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings releases in theaters only on Sept. 3. The movie will also come to Disney+ at least 45 days after that. However, there’s currently no set release date for the movie on Disney’s streaming service. You can check out the latest trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings down below.

Free PS Plus August 2021 Games Revealed

2 years 9 months ago

Microsoft just revealed its Xbox Games With Gold lineup for August, and now it's time for PlayStation to show off its lineup. Where Xbox is leaning into that Lost Planet love, PlayStation is going in a different direction with Hunter's Arena: Legends and some Tennis-inspired adventures.

Just like every month, the new lineup is yours to keep as long as a PlayStation Plus membership is active.

PS Plus Free Games For August 2021

  • Hunter's Arena: Legends
  • Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville
  • Tennis World Tour  2

I don't have any experience with Tennis World Tour 2, personally, so I can't recommend that but Plants vs. Zombies is a fun little adventure if you're looking for something a little more light-hearted. Plus, all three games are free, so if you don't like them? Simply uninstall! Easy peasy.

Nintendo pulled out of Tokyo 2020 Olympic opening ceremony, report claims

2 years 9 months ago

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic opening ceremony featured a suite of video game music - including tracks from Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Sonic the Hedgehog - but one publisher was notably missing from the lineup. Where was Nintendo? According to leaked documents, it seems that there were once plans for the publisher to be more involved with the opening ceremony, with Nintendo songs included in the soundtrack and various Mario-themed shenanigans.

The news comes via Japanese media outlet Shukan Bunshun, which has obtained several documents for the opening ceremony ranging from April 2020 to July this year. According to these plans, the event would have featured performances inspired by the "8-bit world of video games" including Super Mario and Space Invaders, overseen by Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto.

One composition plan dated 4th October 2020 featured a proposal that would have seen the return of the warp pipes from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics closing ceremony... with something of a twist. One graphic shows Lady Gaga entering a pipe, only to re-emerge as comedian Naomi Watanabe (sporting a blonde wig and red cap).

Despite all this time, though, no look will ever be as iconic as Yoji Shinkawa’s depiction of Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid back on the PS1.

The green and white camoed image of Solid Snake has become synonymous with the series all these years later, as new and old fans alike have likely seen the artwork. To commemorate Shinkawa’s amazing work, one Twitter artist went out of their way to create an equally stunning action figure of the renowned image.

Darksiders 3 will become available for Games with Gold subscribers to claim from 1st to 31st August. Yooka-Laylee will then be available from 16th August to 15th September.

"Playtonic's tribute to Banjo is a gentle, irreverent platformer let down by spotty handling and a slight shortage of genius," Edwin wrote of Yooka-Laylee in Eurogamer's review.
