Battlefield 2042's Specialists get a makeover in the next major update

1 year 9 months ago

DICE is delivering a "refreshed art direction" for Battlefield 2042's Specialists in the game's next major update due next month.

The appearance of Specialists was one of the early criticisms levelled by players, who felt their clean look and rather light-hearted demeanour did not fit with the game's harsh post-climate change apocalyptic world.

Based on rendered images posted by the developer, the Specialists have a more gritty look, with burly beards and a more serious resting face reflecting the mental scarring of warfare.

Is There a Stray Secret Ending? Answered

1 year 9 months ago

Wondering if Stray has a secret ending that’s unlocked by finding all collectibles scattered throughout the city you’re busy exploring and trying to escape? So many games nowadays have multiple endings to encourage players to replay the game, grab all of the collectibles or meet other specific requirements in order to unlock them. Well, we’ve got some good or bad news for you, depending on how you feel about multiple and secret endings in general.

Are There Multiple Endings in Stray?

The short answer is no, there’s only one ending in Stray that you’ll get regardless of how many of the collectibles you seek out.

There are no multiple endings or secret endings for grabbing all of the different collectibles like Notebooks, B12 Memories, Badges, and Music Sheets. These are just something to give you even more of a reason to explore the cyber city, and there are some trophies attached to grabbing them all, too.

As such, if you’re just not the collectible type, or you’ve just missed one along the way, don’t worry too much, you’re not missing out on a Stray secret ending.

The ending you get will always be the same, and is purely based on the outcome of all of the main objectives you’ve had to complete along the way. We won’t spoil here exactly what happens, but just know that you can’t miss out on anything because of the way you played through the game.

Game Pass added Watch Dogs 2, Ubisoft's fun open-world Hackers homage

1 year 9 months ago

Ubisoft's campy cybercrime-o-rama Watch Dogs 2 arrived on Game Pass this week, and it's worth a look. I've been playing Watch Dogs 2 lately myself, by coincidence, and I am enjoying its gang of goofballs who want to stick it to The Man by hacking the planet and forcing people to watch their meme videos. Good camp fun with a nice group of friends.

Who Is Directing & Writing Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon?

1 year 9 months ago

With HBO on the cusp of ushering in an entirely new era into the Game of Thrones mythos, fans have been clamoring for every scrap and morsel of information regarding their favorite fantasy universe. Indeed, with its upcoming release on August 21 fast approaching, many of you may be wondering who is directing and writing Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon. Well, you’re in the right place. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

Who is Directing Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon?

While each episode of House of the Dragon will likely be helmed by several different directors, much like the original Game of Thrones series, there are two showrunners who will oversee the overall production of the spin-off project.

Specifically, Martin and Ryan Condal – who co-created the sci-fi drama series, Colony – are billed as House of the Dragon’s co-creators. In addition, Ryan Condal will also serve as one of the series’ showrunner and executive producer.

Miguel Sapochnik – who directed Game of Thrones’ Emmy Award-winning episode, Battle of the Bastards, and five other episodes in the iconic fantasy series – will serve as House of the Dragon’s second showrunner and executive producer. Sapochnik will also direct the show’s pilot episode.

Elsewhere, two other directors are attached to the prequel series: Firstly, Clare Kilner, who directed three episodes of the historical drama The Alienist as well as two episodes of the TV adaptation of Snowpiercer. And secondly, Geeta Patel, an Emmy Award-nominated director who worked on TV shows such as The Magicians, Runaways, and Dead to Me.

Minecraft will not allow NFTs

1 year 9 months ago

Minecraft has drawn a red line around the use of NFTs inside and adjacent to Microsoft's hugely-popular survival sandbox game, effectively banning their use.

Last night, Minecraft developer Mojang posted a blog laying out a clear policy on NFTs, which it said created "models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with our guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft".

"To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our client and server applications, nor may Minecraft in-game content such as worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods, be utilised by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset," Mojang confirmed.

Square Enix Is Selling a Cloud Strife Action Figure...That's Also an NFT

1 year 9 months ago

Final Fantasy VII hero Cloud Strife is being immortalized in a new 25th-anniversary action figure… that also comes with an NFT.

Square Enix announced that the upcoming Cloud Strife figurine will include an NFT as part of the purchase – using the blockchain as a digital certificate of authenticity as well as a “digital version of the figure.”

“The digital plus edition is a set product of physical action figure with one each of exchange tickets to redeem digital certificate of authenticity and digital version of the figure,” reads the description. “Both digital certificate of authenticity and digital version of the figure are managed by the block chain technology known as NFTs. Digital certificate of authenticity provides proof of authenticity for your original purchase of the figure.”

“Digital version of the figure can be enjoyed on your smart phone or your PC through dedicated website,” they added.

Quite how you will ‘enjoy’ your figurine via smartphone or PC remains to be seen. Will this be in the form of a 3D rendering? A JPEG? Who knows. But you’ll have to sign up to the Enjin NFT platform to find out.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake PS Plus Intergrade Issues Now Fixed

1 year 9 months ago

Update 07/21: Sony appears to have now fixed the issue affecting PS5 users claiming the Intergrade bundle of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. As reported by VGC, it is now possible to claim the package even if you previously owned the PS5 version of FF7 Remake. Should you do so and already have the game installed, your console should download just the Intermission DLC.

Final Fantasy VII Remake players can’t claim the PS5 Intergrade bundle via PS Plus.

A quirk in the PlayStation Store means that those who already own the remake are unable to claim the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade bundle which has just been added to PS Plus Extra.

Intergrade, the upgraded PS5 version of Remake, includes the new episode Intermission – a spin-off story that features Yuffie as a playable character.

Unfortunately, if you already own the Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS5, you’re locked out from being able to claim or download the new bundle. Instead, you’ll find the following message:

“You can’t buy this product for the following reasons. You already own the following products, which conflict with the product you’re trying to buy: Final Fantasy VII Remake.”

Valheim - a Viking epic in limbo

1 year 9 months ago

Eight months had passed since Valheim's launch, and my friends and I had finally completed our mission. We had found the perfect location. We had turfed out the local draugrs. We had constructed a luxurious hot tub overlooking a lake - we had even installed mood lighting. Yes, it was true: our Viking spa town was complete. Removing our padded armour sets, we crammed ourselves into the tub and began to take in our idyllic surroundings. A hush fell over the group, with only the bubbling of the water and the occasional bellowing of a deer disturbing the silence.

"So", someone eventually said. "Now what?"

Those who have played Valheim from the start will know that, nowadays, it's largely up to the player to set their own goals for what they want to achieve in-game. Updates for Valheim have been fairly limited in scope, with most introducing fixes and additional crafting items rather than major new chapters in the game's story. Valheim's simple and snappy building system has been able to keep players busy for some time, but there are only so many pubs and longhouses you can build before the longing for something more returns.

Minecraft: How to Make a Lead

1 year 9 months ago

Leads are incredibly useful items in Minecraft, especially when it comes to rearing animals.

They can be used to transport your animals safely, especially if they are unmountable mobs such as sheep or cattle. They stretch up to a maximum of 10 blocks before breaking, and can be attached to a wall to keep a mob or animal in one place so it doesn’t run off.

The question is, how do you craft one for yourself? Here’s everything you need to know about how to make a lead in Minecraft.

How to Make a Lead in Minecraft

Leads can be crafted using four pieces of string and a slimeball, presumably to stick it all together.

To obtain string, you can kill the spider mobs at night time, as they produce both string and spider eyes when defeated.

Slimeballs can be obtained by killing slime, which are usually found in the swamp biomes.

They aren’t difficult to spot; they’re huge green cubes of goo, with plenty going spare.

Once you have your ingredients, open up your 3×3 crafting grid, and place two strings in the first two boxes of the top row, a slimeball and another string directly below them, and your final bit of string in the last box of the bottom row.

How to Get Leads Without Crafting

If making a lead sounds like too much effort, there is a slightly crueler route to getting one much faster.

Traveling traders often visit you offering unique products to purchase, and they always come with two llamas.

These llamas are wearing two leads ripe for the taking, so all you have to do is, well…kill their master.

You may miss out on some bread or buckets of tropical fish, but you’ll have two brand new leads to put to use.

Attack on Titan Ending Explained

1 year 9 months ago

To say the ending of Attack on Titan embraces heady topics would be an understatement. Concepts that are only briefly touched on in past seasons take center stage by the finale, and you wouldn’t be blamed for feeling like there’s a lot left up to interpretation. We felt the same way, and that’s why we’ve constructed this guide covering the major points of the Attack on Titan ending, explained in ways that are clearer than the original source material presented them. *Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead*

How Attack on Titan Ends

To start, it’s worth giving a quick rundown of how Attack on Titan ends.

Following their agreement to work together to stop Eren’s worldwide rumbling plan, the remnants of the Survey Corps and the Marley Warriors stage a final assault. Though Eren puts up a nearly insurmountable defense – using both replicas of the past Titans via the powers of Ymir and transforming all the surviving Eldians into Titans – he is successfully reached by Mikasa and Levi. Mikasa then strikes the finishing blow, killing Eren and freeing every Eldian from the Titan’s curse.

Before this occurs though, Armin is incapacitated and his consciousness is brought into the separate reality formed by Ymir. Once there, he meets Eren’s consciousness, who explains the Attack Titan has the ability to see forward and backward in time via the past, present and future holders of the Titan’s powers, altering events at will. Through this ability, Eren saw a way for both the people of Paradis Island and the wider Eldian population to escape their prejudice, be freed from the Titan’s curse and enjoy lives of true normalcy and freedom.

NieR: Automata Getting $875 2P Figure; $13,800 Final Fantasy VI Terra Figure Up for Pre-Order in North America

1 year 9 months ago

Today Square Enix revealed a new Masterline figure dedicated to NieR: Automata while another dedicated to Final Fantasy VI has been made available for pre-orders in North America.

Let’s start with the massive figure portraying Terra from Final Fantasy VI, which has become available for pre-order in North America for the stratospheric price of $13,800. Looks like the weak yen didn’t help here, considering that the Japanese pre-order price of 1,485,000 yen in April translated into $11,550 back then and $10,730 now. I guess if you’re able and willing to spend this kind of money for a figure, a $3,000 difference isn’t gonna hurt you… too much.

The figure is limited to 600 units globally, so we don’t know how long it’ll be available. Shipments will happen in November 2023.

Moving on to brand new figures, we also get a NieR: Automata statue portraying white-clad spin-off character 2P.

This one isn’t priced as prohibitively (in a relative sense) as Terra, as you’ll “only” need to spend 121,000 yen tax included. That translates approximately into $875. At the moment, pre-orders are available only for Japan and the release date is December 31, 2022.

She’s sculpted in 1/4 scale, which means she’s rather big, measuring standing at approximately 52 cm tall. She even comes with an alternate head without her combat visor.

If you’re unfamiliar with YoRH 2P, she first appeared as an alternate color for 2B in SoulCalibur, and she was then consecrated to worldwide fame when she was featured in Final Fantasy XIV’s themed storyline YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse.

Did The Snap Kill Half the Gods in the MCU? Answered

1 year 9 months ago

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos’ Snap primarily focuses on the state of the Earth and a few other universes that were affected by it. But did the Slip kill half the Gods as well? The only way to finally uncover the truth is by examining the Infinity Gauntlet comics.

Did The Snap Kill Half the Gods in the MCU?

Although there isn’t a clear-cut answer about the MCU cosmic beings, the books have indicated that the Snap didn’t kill entities like gods and the Celestials.

When Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet to destroy half the universe, several of the all-powerful beings were still alive afterward. However, this information doesn’t include everyone, so there could be some unknowns that were wiped out.

To better understand this concept, let’s look at the start of the comics to explain what happened. In the beginning, we see how Thanos plans to use the Infinity Gauntlet to impress Death, a woman he believes to be the most magnificent entity. But, because she is not interested in him, he comes up with the bright idea to wipe out half the universe to get her attention.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Getting Two Cloud Dress Version Figures by Square Enix

1 year 9 months ago

Today Square Enix made two new Final Fantasy VII Remake figures available for pre-orders, portraying hero Cloud Strife.

Yet, it’s not Cloud’s usual look that we’re getting, but the version wearing a dress from the Wall Market section of the game.

Interestingly, Square Enix is releasing not one, but two figures portraying pretty much the same thing.

Yet, one is a Static Arts static figure, priced at $199.99 and coming with a fixed pose. You can pre-order it here.

The second figure belongs to the Play Arts Kai brand, and it’s a fully posable action figure priced at $194.99. You can pre-order it here.

While the action figure will release on July 2023, so it’s pretty much a year away, the static one will be shipped even further in the future, in November 2023.

The sizes are respectively W 9.80″ x D 9.49″ x H 12.80″ for the static figure and W 4.49″ x D 3.50″ x H 10.87 for the action figure.

If you’re considering the purchase, you can find the figures portrayed below. The ones with the white background portray the Static Arts, while those with a black background portray the Play Arts Kai.

How to Complete Speed Machines Treasure Hunt in Forza Horizon 5

1 year 9 months ago

The brand-new Speed Machines Treasure Hunt is now live in Forza Horizon 5. Just like past Treasure Hunts, this one can only be completed by decoding the supplied clue. Here’s everything you need to know about how to complete Speed Machines Treasure Hunt in Forza Horizon 5.

How to Complete Speed Machines Treasure Hunt in Forza Horizon 5

Before actually getting started on the task at hand, it’s time to figure out what the given clue means.

Forza Horizon 5 Speed Machines Treasure Hunt Clue

Here is the clue that is given to players:

“German sport hares are lightning fast, splitting any zone in three”

The German part helps narrow things down a bit and it should already be clear that you would be heading out in a speedy vehicle. After all, speed is in the name of this Treasure Hunt.

Forza Horizon 5 Speed Machines Treasure Hunt Car

That clue definitely helps narrow things down a bit since getting three stars in a speed zone is straightforward. On the other hand, it’s a bit ambiguous since there are plenty of fast German cars to choose from. Fortunately, you can match up the background image of the clue to a vehicle that’s available in the Autoshow to determine it’s the Volkswagen Golf GTI 1983. Better yet, it can even be purchased for 20,000 credits from there if you don’t own one yet.

Rhythm Game Touhou Danmaku Kagura to End Service

1 year 9 months ago

touhou danmaku kagura

Touhou Danmaku Kagura, a rhythm game based on the popular Touhou series, is shutting down. Developer UnknownX announced the shutdown during a livestream event on July 18, 2022. The game itself will shut down on October 28, 2022, about fourteen months after its August 4, 2021 launch. It never received an international release.

You can see the announcement itself here at about the 1:22 timestamp.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qihelj8eoeM

Twitter user @DanmakuEN, a fan-run news account focused on Touhou Danmaku Kagura, posted translated screenshots of the announcement. These included messages from UnknownX Vice-President Tomohiro Ueda, and Commander-in-Chief Jyunya. The messages thanked players for their support, and explained some of the reasoning behind the decision. Though over 5 million players downloaded the game since its launch, sales ended up "far below" forecasted levels. Despite attempts to boost sales via promotions and updates, things didn't turn around. A plan to continue service at a "greatly reduced" level was ultimately rejected, as it would not match the level of service desired. UnknownX also thanked Touhou Project creator ZUN.

https://twitter.com/DanmakuEN/status/1549013408455876610

In the meantime, players can continue to enjoy Touhou Danmaku Kagura until its end. UnknownX will continue to add new songs, characters and cards, and run scheduled events.
