If you were to create a checklist of what makes a game a Souls-like, meaning it follows in the footsteps of FromSoftware’s massively popular Dark Souls series, you’d get bullet points that look nearly identical to Hellpoint: respawn checkpoints in a labyrinthine world, the loss of all currency on death unless you can retrieve it, slow and methodical combat with light and heavy attacks, as well as challenging encounters punctuated by enormous boss monsters. It’s all here, for better and for worse, but its elaborate sci-fi setting gives it some character of its own and a strong combat system made suffering through the extensive bugs largely worthwhile.
If I’ve learned anything from Jurassic Park over the years it’s that running a dinosaur zoo is a harrowing undertaking. No less harrowing in Parkasaurus, it seems. These dinos may be neon-colored and wear tiny hats but they can still escape and munch on your guests. You can start running your own park and tending to its giant inhabitants when Parkasaurus graduates from early access on August 13th.
Take-Two subsidiary Private Division has announced it's signed agreements to publish new titles from three acclaimed indie developer: Ori and the Blind Forest's Moon Studios, OlliOlli creators Roll7, and Armello developer League of Geeks.
As for precisely what each team is working on, details are almost non-existent at present, although Moon Studios - which most recently wrapped up work on Ori and the Will of the Wisps - has teased that its next title will be an action RPG.
Considerably less revealing is the news that League of Geeks has "an ambitious, new video game and intellectual property" in the works, while Roll7 is planning "the next jump forward in [its] mission to create awesome, flow state games." So, yes.
How is this even possible? A YouTuber by the name of
TheDominoKing (name DEFINITELY checks out) posted this insane domino tribute to Super Mario Maker 2.
As the title of this article says, it took TheDominoKing six months to put together, and in total 260,214 dominoes were used. Holy. MOLY.
The creation spans across different eras of Mario and while it was originally going to be smaller in scope, the addition of new features while it was being put together inspired TheDominoKing to keep going.
Watch the video below, it’s awe-inspiring. Like, what is even occurring during the grand finale? It’s above my level of comprehension but I know it’s awesome.

In June, when the anthropomorphic narrative game Goodbye Volcano High was announced, the first thing my nonbinary friend said to me was: “we got nonbinary representation, but not as a human character.” I had a similar concern with Sawyer and Rowan, the nonbinary characters in last year’s Boyfriend Dungeon. They were…
Nexomon: Extinction from developers Vewo Interactive, isn’t all that shy about its similarities to Pokemon; there are plenty of things that are similar. Nexomon seems to seek to present itself its as a polished modern version of more classic Pokemon games, while doing a few things different to stand out as well.
A flurry of Nexomon videos were recently released that show off a bit of what it’s like to catch Nexomon, what traversing around the game is like and who some of its characters are.
What stands out the most to me is the game’s art style. It looks like an extremely colorful version of Gen 4 that really pops off the screen. See for yourself:
Next up is the gameplay. For a bit the battles seem exactly like they do in Pokemon. Heck, even the battle music is similar. Things to change quite a bit though when it’s time to actual catch these Nexomon. There are more than just a few types of Pokeballs, and catching is dependent on success in a minigame.
Today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu included a spread on the upcoming Trails JRPG by Nihon Falcom The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki.
We get to see more returning characters including Fie Claussell, Emma Millstein, Gaius Worzel, Millium Orion, Roselia, Fran Seeker, Celine, and a much grown-up Shizuku Maclaine.
On top of them, we also get to see a new antagonist simply named Emperor. He is a ruthless enemy able to control gravity via his weapon.
Another interesting element is an episode unlockable with the New Reverie Corridor focusing on Freddy.
Last, but not least, is the “Beach DE Vacation” that you can access via tickets acquired in the New Reverie Corridor. It includes plenty of summer minigames and among its rewards are swimsuits for your characters.
You can check out the screenshots below. Incidentally, if you want to get into the series, you can still take part in our The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III giveaway.

Summer, to me, has always been synonymous with the summer movie season. I wasn’t into sports growing up, so baseball and the NBA playoffs weren’t my jam. I also wasn’t the outdoorsiest kid so, you know, it’s not like I was rushing to go on hikes or find stuff to do outside. No, for me, summer movies were always the…

One would think adapting an anime about an online fantasy game into an actual game would be a recipe for success, especially in the case of Sword Art Online‘s latest cour, Alicization. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, a potentially decent game bogged down by bland and clunky design only fans will have the patience to put up with.
To its credit, the game’s premise follows the plot of the show beat for beat and holds the same potential for success. Protagonist Kirito awakens in the virtual game world of Underworld with no memory of how he got there or how to escape.
He also has memories of living in the world in years prior. Key among these are memories of time spent alongside Alice and Eugeo, two of the world’s AI who he supposedly spent his childhood days with until the former was kidnapped by the world’s rulers.
Desperate to uncover the reason for these strange occurrences – and curious as to whether the world’s rulers may know of a way to return him to the real world – he finds and allies himself with Eugeo, setting out to find Alice and other allies in order to solve the mysteries surrounding him, his memories, and his being in this world.
From there, players are able to explore Underworld as they make their way through the story, taking part in the usual action-RPG fare. Quests can be completed, monsters can be fought, and new party members and abilities can be unlocked to spice up combat.

Summer is for squares, according to me, the liker of snow. So I’m quite glad to see that Frostpunk‘s next DLC expansion is putting an emphasis on the “frost” bit after its prior expansion, The Last Autumn, was a prequel story taking place before endless winter set in. On The Edge is set after the original Frostpunk campaign, sending some New London residents out into uncharted territory on August 20th.

Crystal Dynamics has shared details of its substantial Marvel's Avengers beta - which will be playable across three weekends next month, starting on 7th August - and has offered a glimpse of the game's first post-launch hero, Hawkeye, in its latest developer video.
There looks to be a lot for players to sink their teeth into come August's beta, starting with the Golden Gate demo sequence shown previously. This 25-minute chunk of gameplay serves as an introduction to combat and traversal - giving players a chance to test out various hero-specific combos, heroics, and moves - and culminates with a boss battle against Taskmaster.
With that out the way, the beta will then open up to offer two single-player Hero stages, and, later, a selection of missions that can be played either solo or co-operatively. One Hero mission sees Kamala Khan (AKA Ms. Marvel) and Hulk travelling to the dense forests of the American Pacific North-West, where players get a taste of Hulk's destructive capabilities, and the second unfolds in the frozen Russian tundra, where an encounter with Abomination awaits.
Worlds collide, just like Hulk hands with your face in the early 2000s
The desert-island tactical RPG series Disgaea is still making the rounds with Disgaea 4 Complete+. After the recent PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions last year, it's time for PC players to revolt too.
NIS is launching the PC version of Disgaea 4 Complete+ this fall on Steam and Xbox Game Pass for PC.
In a blog post, NIS also spoke about several "upcoming" features like a map editor with upload support in "early 2021," player-customized pirate crews that can "show up in the Item World to either attack or support the player that encounters them," Netherbattle tournaments, and themed Ranking Battles.
Are more enhanced ports on the way? Will I play the Prinny remaster? What's up with Disgaea 6?
Probably. Probably. And who knows.

With Marvel's Avengers just over a month from release, Crystal Dynamics is gearing up for a huge beta test to ensure the experience is ready for its big day on September 4. During today's War Table presentation, the studio detailed the experience players can look forward to when the beta first rolls out on August 7.
The beta opens with the A-Day demo, the sequence that served as the first gameplay footage at E3 2019. The mission serves as a tutorial of sorts, giving you rotating control of Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Black Widow in a cinematic mission. The mission even gives you a chance to face off against Taskmaster in a boss battle.
After you complete the A-Day mission on the Golden Gate Bridge, the beta opens up to include a couple single-player hero missions featuring Ms. Marvel and Hulk. As Kamala and Bruce, you venture to the American northwest forests, then hop in the Quinjet to head to the Russian tundra to uncover deeply buried SHIELD secrets. Once you finish exploring an underground AIM facility, you have a chance to take part in a boss battle against Abomination.
Following the new Yakuza: Like a Dragon Reveal from a few days ago, Sega released another trailer focusing on one of the voice actors.
This time around, we hear from Elizabeth Maxwell, who voices Saeko Mukouda in the English version of the game.
If the name doesn’t ring a bell, you’ve likely heard her voice in Persona 5 as Sae Niijima, Astral Chain as Alicia Lopez, and many more games on top of plenty of anime.
You can watch the video below.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon will launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in November.
The Xbox Series X version will be a launch game when the console releases, while a PS5 version is also coming at a later date.
It hasn’t been long since Valorant was one of the most popular games on Twitch thanks to its closed beta giveaways. Now that it’s had a full-fledged launch, the game has been adding new content. This time, Valorant is getting a new Agent.
The new Agent’s name is Killjoy, and she’s a German robotics expert. She’s a genius inventor who can add a real strong defensive presence to any team.
Use this new Valorant Agent to outsmart your opponents, or lock down entire areas of play for much easier Spike plants.
Riot Games also added a recent post on the game’s official site to inform players of some new changes coming in Act II. It outlines some updates to “Act Ranks” and competitive play. Here are a few of them:

During a Marvel’s Avengers War Table livestream from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, the team broke down some of the campaign content, War Zones, and challenge rooms that players will experience during the August Beta weekends.
The Marvel’s Avengers Beta will drop players into the famous Golden Gate Bridge scene that we’ve been shown numerous times before from Square Enix. The sequence will take players about 25 minutes to finish, and will serve as a great introduction to the main heroes that you’ll be playing as, letting you have a little taste of the combat and traversal –there’s even a Taskmaster boss battle.
And that’s not it, Beta players will also have access to more single-player Hero missions and then eventually, co-op and single War Zones to discover. One of the single-player missions even features Kamala Khan working alongside The Hulk to discover secret S.H.I.E.L.D. intel.
Once Beta players wrap up the single-player story missions, you’ll have four different heroes to choose from: Iron Man, Kamala Khan, Black Widow, and Hulk.
As you progress through the Beta, you’ll eventually have access to four-player cooperative missions, known as Harm Rooms, War Zones, and Drop Zones.
Harm Rooms will throw waves of increasingly difficult enemies at you and you have to team up with your buddies, or work solo, to last for as long as you can.
War Zones are missions you can play with up to four heroes and act as side quests that allow players to experience a more story-based experience with expansive areas to explore.
And then Drop Zones are the smaller more focused versions of War Zones and they’re essentially quick hit and run encounters that are great for earning gear/leveling up and not spending too much time.

Does anyone else have an irrational fear of appearing on a show like Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and blowing it on a basic freebie trivia question that was specifically designed to be a no-brainer?
I will never, under any circumstances, be in that situation – but the what-if unsettles me on a far-too-regular basis. I like game shows, I like video games based on game shows, but I would never be on one.
All that said – and I've said too much – I am down for a Who Wants to be a Millionaire? video game in 2020 with an online mode "where up to 100 players can compete simultaneously." It's coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One from developer Appeal Studios and publisher Microids.
Apart from the large-scale mode that reminds me how much I miss 1 vs. 100 to this day, there's also local multiplayer with co-op (where players have to reach a consensus) and free-for-all (where wrong answers knock players out), plus a single-player mode designed "especially for kids."
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? will launch on October 29 in Europe and November 17 in the US, but I'll likely hold out for a bargain-bin discount. For what it's worth, the box promises "over 3,000 questions."
