8 Quick Indie Games to Play Before Summer’s Over

3 years 9 months ago

Summer is almost over and a lot of people will soon be really busy within the next few weeks when either school or work becomes their main focus.

Some of us won’t be able to put as much time as we want into longer, content-rich games like Ghost of Tsushima or The Last of Us Part II.

So if you want to play and finish a few games before then, we’ve put together a handy list of really short video games you can complete before the summer’s over.

Getting through the story in the particular games on this list will only take at max eight hours so you’ll have plenty of time to start up another one or dive a little deeper to grab some achievements or finish a few side quests.

GTA 5 Online Players' Accounts Reset For Exploiting Glitch To Earn Money

3 years 9 months ago

Rockstar recently meted out punishment to players who took advantage of a well-known glitch in GTA Online, and as a result, some players are deeply unhappy. The loophole in question is known as the apartment/garage glitch, and it allows players to amass in-game fortunes after they purchase properties and navigate through a specific set of menu options.

In late August, Rockstar reset a number of accounts that exploited the glitch. Though not a ban, an account reset means that all players affected not only lose all money, but also vehicles purchased and levels achieved. Players with reset accounts will need to start from scratch.

In response to the news, players on Twitter have been sharing their grievances and thoughts. Some argued that Rockstar went too far by resetting accounts entirely instead of just wiping bank accounts. Others commented that players who took advantage of the glitch should've known a punishment was likely.

PS5's Backward Compatibility Is Even More Confusing Now

3 years 9 months ago
PlayStation 5's full backward compatibility potential has remained somewhat of a mystery as Sony has not confirmed or denied any potential for support beyond PS4 games, but a recent, and now updated support page from Ubisoft, has further muddied the waters about what past generations the PS5 will or won't be potentially backward compatible with. A Ubisoft Support Q&A page, in response to a question about upgrading games from PS4 to PS5, as spotted by Wario64 and confirmed by IGN, originally said that "Backwards compatibility will be available for supported PlayStation 4 titles, but will not be possible for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, or PlayStation games."

This Streets of Rage 4 Cosplayer Absolutely Nails Adam Hunter

3 years 9 months ago

Even months after I played through Streets of Rage 4 and had a great time, I’m still a little shook that not only did Streets of Rage 4 actually happen, but it was also actually really, really good! Sega please take note at what happens when you let loose a bit with your IP and let talented developers take a stab at them, OK?

Anyway, with Streets of Rage 4 back in its rightful spot as one of the premiere beat-em-ups, of course cosplayers are going to react with some awesome takes on the game’s popular characters.

This Adam Hunter cosplay by Billy A Dunston, and with photos taken by Lance Allen Reis, is among the best I’ve personally seen so far. Co-developer of Streets of Rage 4, Lizardcube, seems to agree too and shared the work on their Twitter page. Take a look below!

Everything We Know About Xbox Series X Preorders: Still Not Much

3 years 9 months ago
It's been a long time coming, but Xbox Series X preorders are expected to go live before too much longer. Maybe? Seriously, are we ever getting news on these next-gen consoles? Short of an official announcement from Microsoft, "before too much longer" is the best prediction we have for when preorders will go live. And while Sony has said it will announce the PS5 preorder date in advance to give fans time to prepare, Microsoft has made no such promise. If you just came here for the console wars, you can read about where to sign up for PS5 preorder notifications on our dedicated PlayStation page for the subject.

Xbox Series X Preorder Information Pages

The Xbox Series X is coming November 2020, but the exact preorder date, price, and release date have yet to be officially announced. Even so, you can visit the Xbox Series X info pages at the below retailers to read up on the upcoming console, and several of them let you enter your email address for notifications once Xbox Series X preorders do go live. As for us, this is IGN's dedicated Xbox Series X preorder page. Bookmark it now, because we'll have link and information for all the retailers as soon as preorders go live.

Lemnis Gate Interview: Explain a Turn-Based FPS To Me Like I’m Five

3 years 9 months ago

When I first learned about Lemnis Gate I was extremely confused. There are few genres that seem more incompatible than something that is turn-based, with the fast-paced constant action of a competitive first-person shooter. It’s a thing though, apparently, and Lemnis Gate is doing it.

Recently, Twinfinite had the opportunity to talk to James Anderson, the game director of Lemnis Gate, to try and get as clear an explanation as possible of how these genres can co-exist and how this game will work.

Ed McGlone: For starters, explain how Lemnis Gate works to me like I’m five. It seems like the genres would be as incompatible as it gets. How does a turn-based FPS even work?

James Anderson, Game Director of Lemnis Gate: Pretend you and I are playing a game of 1v1. I’ll go first, I’ll play for 25 seconds, and what I’m going to do is try and achieve my objectives. So, for example, in the game mode Capture the Flag I will try and grab flags and bring them back to my spawn point to score points. I have 25 seconds to do that.

Once I finish my turn, my character and all the moves that my character did will loop over and over and over until the end of the match.

Now it’s your turn. You can see the time loop, you can fly around in spectator mode, you can see every single thing that’s happened and you have about a minute to think about what your turn is going to be. Then you have to make your choice. So then you choose a character and play for 25 seconds, but it’s the same 25 seconds, we play on top of each other.

After your turn there will be one of you and one of me in the time loop and we go to round two and add a second character, and then a third character… and a fourth character…

These fan-made Zelda: Breath of the Wild amiibo go nicely with the official figure

3 years 9 months ago

It's always amazing to witness how much raw talent the Zelda community brings to the table. I see it on a regular basis! But this duo of fan-made Guardian amiibo really stands out in this crowded month of great fan creations.

MarkelangeloStudios says that the figures were 3D-printed and hand-painted: by way of a Photon S SLA printer (which will run you roughly $380 MSRP) and Zbrush.  The bases on the newer Guardians are custom, with little etchings from the Zelda franchise embossed on them. They even went the extra mile and embedded backup NFC chips inside of the fan-creations, based off of the original Guardian style.

For reference, the middle figure is the Guardian Skywatcher: a flying (and very annoying) variant of the Guardian machine. The left-most figure is the Guardian Turret. The original amiibo mirrors the Stalker line.

MarkelangeloStudios is musing on the idea of crafting tutorial videos: if that ever happens, I'll try and track them down!

Two The Witcher 3 Story Quest Mods Take Geralt to a New Area of Toussaint

3 years 9 months ago

Thanks to a combination of new, more advanced modding tools and a strong continued interest in the game after the success of Netflix’s adaptation, The Witcher 3’s mod scene has really started to blossom over the past 18 months or so.

It’s paved the way for talented enthusiasts to start adding proper quest expansions to the game for the first time. Earlier this month Twinfinite reported the release of the excellent Ciri’s Sole Momento story quest, and now we’ve got another two quest mods to look forward to.

Riot Games Reveals A Trailer For Tellstones: King's Gambit

3 years 9 months ago

Riot Games has all kinds of projects going on right now. You know, they just launched an expansion for Legends of Runeterra that's pretty awesome, I've been summoning Celestials left and right and man it's a pip. But anyway, this is about a new board game. That's right, those things we play in physical reality.

Honestly, outside of this teaser trailer and what amounts to a skeleton website, we don't know much about Tellstones: King's Gambit. We do know it's based inside the world of League of Legends. Shocker there, hunh? But hey, whenever Riot is making a new game or something it's probably a good idea to check it out. You can watch the cool trailer below!

It's hard to believe this walk in the park was made in Dreams

3 years 9 months ago

It's a treat to watch the Dreams community settle into the tools and flex its creative and technical muscles. In some cases, without the little "Made in Dreams" watermark (and the ability to actually play this stuff), it would be easy to doubt that what we're watching was created on a PlayStation 4.

That's how I feel about "Walk in the Park," the latest video from creator BadRobo82.

Pulling off this kind of complexity and realism within the confines of Dreams is staggering, especially for those of us who have slapped something together and run up against the very finite thermometer. If you dig in and inspect every single element, you'll notice repetition, but the effect is still convincing.

As lovely as everything looks, the creator says "it can still be done better." It's early days.

This nature walk isn't available from the Dreamiverse, but you can check out BadRobo82's progress in Dreams on Twitter and watch other equally impressive exploration scenes on their YouTube channel.

PlayStation's Major Franchises: Tracking the Years Since New Entries

3 years 9 months ago
This generation, Sony has cemented its status as the industry's premier publisher of narrative-driven, single-player games. Over the past four years especially, the company has rarely missed the mark; whether it be new entries in acclaimed series (Uncharted 4, The Last of Us Part II), fresh takes on old properties (God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man), or brand new IP (Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima), there's been a remarkable consistency in the quality of PlayStation-exclusive releases. With Sony's PS4 swan song Ghost of Tsushima now behind us, we're looking back at the output of PlayStation's biggest first-party franchises over the past seven years — and beyond(!). (This list measures the time between original, mainline releases only. If a spinoff or remake was released more recently it's noted with an asterisk (*). Time elapsed figures are based on U.S. release dates and are recorded as of August 2020.) Some various updates about the name change via Ubisoft social channels, essentially confirming the name change and relaying stay tuned for more on September 10.

According to a post by Gematsu, the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee has rated a game called Immortals: Fenyx Rising by Ubisoft. For Fans of Life Is Strange, Dontnod’s Tell Me Why Lives up To Expectations

3 years 9 months ago

Dontnod Entertainment’s games are often filled with compelling narratives, a strong cast of characters, and tough moral decision-making. These are successfully incorporated into their games like Remember Me, Vampyr, and their most recent game, Tell Me Why.

Most of all, Dontnod is known for developing the Life is Strange series. Tell Me Why, Dontnod’s latest game, hits nearly all of the checkboxes that helped make Life is Strange a success; in fact, it does this so much that it even feels like it could be the third entry in the series.

Tell Me Why follows twins Alyson and Tyler who have reunited after ten years apart and work together to uncover mysterious details about their childhood. Not only does it has the same distinct art style that Life is Strange games have, but thematically, they are incredibly similar in many ways.

The game’s narrative is driven through Tyler and Alyson’s shared experiences, not unlike the bonds shared between Max and Chloe, Chloe and Rachel, and Sean and Daniel. These are the relationships that drive the story forward and make them so memorable long after they are over.

Pikachu Collabs With Japanese Superstar Pikotaro for a Bizarre Music Video

3 years 9 months ago

Famous Japanese entertainer and personality, Pikotaro, has just released a brand-new music video called Pika to Piko and you might’ve guessed it already but the video is a collaboration with none other than the iconic Electric-type mouse Pokemon, Pikachu.

The music video is now available to watch on YouTube but it was initially premiered earlier today during the finale of the Pokemon Virtual Fest, a virtual amusement park event in Japan.

As someone who has never heard of Pikotaro until today, I find the music video to be very, very bizarre, but hey, this might just be Pikotaro’s thing.

In the music video, which you can watch below, Pikotaro and Pikachu dress up in some pretty rad outfits and then there’s a lot of strange singing and dancing.

In a press release sent to Twinfinite, there were several comments from Pikotaro on the collaboration and how he has always wanted this to happen.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Bombardier CRJ, Twin Otter, & More Add-Ons Announced by Aerosoft

3 years 9 months ago

Third-party developers have hit the ground running with their add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator and Aerosoft is bringing the big guns to bear as well.

After releasing the Paderborn/Lippstadt airport for free last week, Aerosoft (that is one of the biggest third-party add-on developers on the market) made its first announcements of upcoming products.

The first is the Bombardier CRJ line which will include the CRJ 700, CRJ 900, and CRJ 1000, as revealed by product manager Mathijs Kok.

It’ll be a package similar to the popular and complex one available for Prepar3d, but entirely rebuilt for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Apparently Aerosoft helped Asobo build the development SDK for the game, so they already have quite a lot of experience with it.

The developer hopes to release the package by the end of the year, even if it’s “impossible to say” at the moment if they’ll actually manage to.

The second aircraft that the team at Aerosoft is currently working on is a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, which will be awesome for those who love to fly those small island-hopping airlines.

Also in development is the Airbus line including the 318, 319, 320, 321, and 330, but those aren’t being worked on as intensively as the CRJ at the moment. This whole plan is expected to take about two years and a half.

Aerosoft is also working on airports, but Kok did not provide details on which ones, teasing that the developer’s current lineup for other simulators could provide a good indication of what might be coming.

You can see the full video below, providing a look at the CRJ.
