Fruits Basket Season 2 Joins Crunchyroll’s Spring Slate With new Trailer

4 years 1 month ago

The 2019 Fruits Basket anime’s second part is set to air this Spring via Crunchyroll, and it has a new trailer teasing all of the drama yet to come for its characters.

Streamed by Crunchyroll via their official YouTube account on Mar. 27, the trailer shows Tohru Honda joining the Somas on a trip to the beach during their Summer vacation. New characters like Kakeru Manabe and Machi Kuragi are introduced, and Tohru reaffirms her determination to break the curse plaguing the Somas so that they can all live a normal, happy life.

All seems bright and cheery until the trailer cuts to a scene of Akito, the head of the Soma household, being convinced to join the rest of the family on their vacation. From there, scenes of fights, past traumas and secrets revealed come one after the other.

Slowly but surely, divides begin to emerge between characters as they each try to come to their own major revelations – not least of which being who of the family’s members has feelings for Tohru, and which of them will have their feelings reciprocated in return.

It all culminates in the reveal that second part is set to begin airing in Japan on Apr. 6, while it will begin streaming on Crunchyroll on Apr. 1.

The Resident Evil Resistance Open Beta Is Delayed on Steam and PS4

4 years 1 month ago

If you’re a Steam or PS4 player, you’re going to have to wait a bit longer to play the Resident Evil Resistance Open Beta. Announced via the game’s official website, it seems that technical issues regarding those two platforms has delayed the Open Beta’s launch. It’s not clear when the new launch date will be, but Capcom has promised to keep interested players updated.

These issues, however, seem to have not affected the Xbox One version of the Open Beta, as it is now available for play on Microsoft’s console.

Resident Evil Resistance puts four players in control of survivors during the Raccoon City outbreak, fighting against hordes of the series’ classic enemies, all spawned by a fifth player, the Mastermind.

Survivor players in the asynchronous 4 vs. 1 multiplayer title can choose from a variety of different characters with unique abilities. The majority of these survivors are new to the series, but a few series vets like Jill Valentine are also available. One of the best of the new additions is Martin Sandwich, a character named after the original Resident Evil’s so-bad-it’s-good Jill sandwich joke.

Mastermind players, on the other hand, get to choose from a lineup of series villains, such as Alex Wesker, an antagonist from Resident Evil Revelations 2. These players will attempt to crush the four survivors, each having access to a unique set of deadly traps and deadlier creatures.

Netflix Renews Castlevania For a Fourth Season

4 years 1 month ago

Season 4 of Castlevania, Netflix’s hit anime series based on the classic video game IP from Konami, has been confirmed on the official Netflix Twitter account today. No specific release window for the fourth season has been announced as yet.

The news comes less than a month after the release of Season 3; the acclaimed series has been loved by both fans and critics alike, with the show as a whole having an 8.2 critic rating on IMDb.

Castlevania follows the story of Trevor Belmont, the last living descendent of the Belmont dynasty, a family that is basically just really darn good at hunting vampires. Trevor, though, seems to be more of a lucky drunk than an expert vampire hunter — that is until he gains friends who encourage him to take the fight to Dracula, who is ravaging Europe after priests kill his human wife.

The Netflix shows greatly expands the lore and characters of the video games, often diving into character motivations for beloved characters like Trevor, Alucard, and Dracula. The show goes hard into that R-rating with plenty of gore, sex, demons, and swearing. If you haven’t watched Castlevania yet, we wholeheartedly recommend doing so right now.

Story of Season: Friends of Mineral Town Gets a US Summer Release Window & New Trailer

4 years 1 month ago

XSEED Games has today announced that the Harvest Moon remake Story of Season: Friends of Mineral Town, which launched last year in Japan, will come to North America this summer on Nintendo Switch for $49.99. Retail pre-orders will go live shortly, rewarding early customers with a “pocket plushie” based on the in-game animal, “Strawberry Hanako.”

Originally released as a Harvest Moon game for Game Boy Advanced back in 2003, the remake will be the first mainline game to come to Switch. The updated version features improved systems and character designs along with a completely new translation.

For the uninitiated, Story of Seasons is a story-driven RPG experience with a gameplay loop centered around farming. The Harvest Moon series, of course, served as the inspiration for modern classics like Stardew Valley. Players familiar with that game can, therefore, expect a similar emphasis on relationship-building with local townsfolk and even the opportunity for romance.

As for the story itself, in Friends of Mineral Town, a young city-goer returns to Mineral Town to find the once lush farmland has fallen into disrepair. Memories of idyllic summers spent in Mineral Town come rushing back and they immediately pick up their tools, vowing to restore the fields to their former glory.

Beyond just farm management, players can spend their days catching fish in the river, mining for ore, or taking a relaxing break in the hot spring.

You can watch a good overview of the gameplay and story in today’s new trailer below.

5 Very Important Things I Noticed After One Week of Animal Crossing: New Horizons

4 years 1 month ago

It’s been a whole week since Animal Crossing: New Horizons blessed Switches across the world, and the hype doesn’t appear to have died down one bit as we fervently work to free our islands from nature’s wicked clutches.

Seven days later, some people’s villages are already resembling metropolitan hubs, with thriving economies and palatial mansions that pierce the clouds above.

Others have been taking a much more measured approach, content with just whittling their hours away at a sluggish pace, spending their bells on literally uprooting Cranston the ostrich’s house from its foundation and placing it in an obscure corner of town simply to confuse him.

When you’re in the latter party, you take much more time to notice things. Minor things. Vapid things. Stranger things.

Perhaps you’d like to know what I’ve noticed? (Perhaps not, but you’ve already gone this far so you’re damn well committed, I say.)

While the system follows the dungeon RPG basics of the previous games, there are new mechanics, including the “Zapping System” that lets you switch between original and new heroes in real-time.

There will be over six main characters including Jack, Kurara, and Red Riding Hood from previous games, and three new ones, Jyuu, Mary, and Charlotte. We also get to see a villainess named Genocide Pink.

She is part of a group of girls with eerie smiles and glowing eyes that our heroes will have to face to escape the ultimate prison. There appear to be three more who haven’t been released.

The screen layout has been completely redesigned compared with previous games, but the basics of battle are the same. We also see a new enemy named “Babymare,” which looks like a Nightmare baby.

Like the previous game of the series, Mary Skelter Finale will include a romantic visual novel as a pre-order bonus, titled Love Prison Tower Mary Skelter – True End. Apparently, it’ll involve swimsuits.

These Animal Crossing Custom Designs Would Have the Able Sisters in Tears

They say that the best way to cope with uncertainty is to let your creative juices flow through art, music, writing, or even taking a deep dive into the world of graphic design.

Now that the coronavirus has everyone confined to their homes for the foreseeable future, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has given players the opportunity to let their imaginations run wild and design their clothes, furniture and their gardens based on video games and various other pieces of pop culture.

Here are some of the greatest works of art the island Villagers of Animal Crossing: New Horizons served up on Twitter that’ll make you smile and Vera Wang cry.

Hatsune Miku

The virtual J-Pop Vocaloid diva looks amazing no matter what style she decides to throw on. Although she’s not wearing her signature long ponytails, Eternia_Art made up for it by giving her a black sunhat and glasses to match.

Cross-Dressing Game Bokuhime Project for PS4 & Switch Gets Trailer Showing the Hero’s Transformation

4 years 1 month ago

Today Nippon Ichi Software released a commercial of its “Cross-Dressing Adventure Game” Bokuhime Project.

The commercial showcases the transformation of the hero, a young boy named Minato, who decides to cross-dress as a girl to join his beloved sister’s school and investigate what caused her to fall into a coma.

One of the emblems of this transformation is when he initially refers to himself as “boku” and then corrects it to “watashi.” “Boku” is normally a manner of speech associated with young boys, while “watashi” is more graceful and suitable for a young lady.

Initially, Nippon Ichi Software advertised the title as a “cross-dressing game for all ages.”

Now it has changed the tune a bit since it received a B CERO rating, which means it’s suitable for players 12 or above. That’s obviously not all ages, but it clearly shows that it’s a game featuring very tame content.

To stress on that, the video ends by showing a big “B” and the mention that Bokuhime Project ok for players older than 12.

Re:Zero Season 2 Is Coming This Summer; Gets New Teaser Trailer

4 years 1 month ago

It’s been a long wait, but Re:Zero’s second season is finally approaching its release, and it has received a new teaser trailer to show what it has in store.

On Mar. 26, Crunchyroll revealed that the second season of Re:Zero was in production and that it would be streamed on the platform this July as part of the company’s Summer season slate. The announcement came with a brief trailer which doesn’t feature any dialogue, but does hint at the high stakes that will be present in the new season’s story.

Subaru, the series’ protagonist, is seen walking through a field. All seems well until blood can be seen on the ground around him, which he passes slowly without taking any notice of it.

As he continues to walk forward through the field, the source of the blood becomes apparent: Corpses, both of familiar characters and random civilians, can be seen piled on top of each other to either side of Subaru, the cause of their deaths unclear.

Subaru continues to march forward until he comes to a woman with white hair drinking tea on a hill. Upon seeing her, viewers get a glimpse of Subaru’s face, which is a mixture of determination and rage. The trailer then ends on the line “I see. So that is the root of your desire.”

It’s a dramatic and haunting teaser to say the least, and raises more than a few questions fans of the series will be eager to see answered later this year.

The full teaser trailer can be viewed down below.

As a new branch campus opens, Rean joins the school as a teacher of the new Class VII while trying to prevent both the secretive organization Ouroboros and Chancellor of Erebonia Gilliath Osborne’s plots for domination.

In our review of the PS4 version, we gave it a 4/5 and said the series is a “must-play” for JRPG fans.

While The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is the first game in the series to release on the Switch, it may not be the best jumping-on point for new players.

Playdead Briefly Teases Limbo & INSIDE Successor

4 years 1 month ago

Playdead, the studio behind acclaimed side-scrolling puzzle-platformers Limbo and INSIDE, has today teased its next game. The short clip shows a vista of what appears to be otherwordly planet with a figure standing outside a space buggy of some sort. It’s captioned with an invitation to join the project and a link to job openings with the company.

It’s the first we’ve heard about Playdead’s next game officially since 2017 when the team published a concept art image; although, earlier this year several screenshots of what Playdead described as its next project were included in a job listing over on its website (one of which is pictured above).

Today’s teaser clip certainly appears to be the same project — one that fans ironically dubbed “Outside” following the 2017 concept art reveal.

Fallout 76’s Wastelanders Update Delayed by a Week

4 years 1 month ago

The coronavirus COVID-19 continues to impact the games industry as Bethesda today announced that its anticipated Fallout 76 Wastelanders update has been delayed due to logistical challenges brought about by social distancing protocols.

In a statement released via its social media channels, Bethesda cited delays in its QA testing process as having delayed the final stages of Wastelanders release. It stressed the team’s commitment to having done everything in its power to minimize the delay.

Thankfully, it’s just a week. Wastelanders will now launch on April 17 instead of the original April 7 date. You can read the full statement below.

Wastelanders is set to add the much-requested feature of having NPCs to Fallout 76, a bizarre omission that caused huge controversy when the game launched back in 2018.

The addition of NPCs should bring Fallout 76 more in line with the rest of the single-player series, though whether the NPCs will, in turn, mean more substantial story-driven quests remains to be seen.

Borderlands 3 Update Raises Max Level and Adds Guardian Ranks

4 years 1 month ago

With a lot of people stuck inside these days, this update couldn’t come at a better time for Borderlands fans. The Guns, Love, and Tentacles Borderlands 3 DLC arrives today, and with it comes a new max level alongside additional Guardian Ranks.

It was announced on Twitter that this new update will go live by 12PM PT on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. However, these changes will be coming to Mac on Apr. 2.

If you haven’t had the chance to sufficiently level up a character in time for the new DLC, you’ll have the option to start the DLC with an auto-leveled character.

In this way, the update will prepare the game for the new Borderlands 3 DLC campaign add-on while also increasing the max level to 57, and adding three new Guardian Rank skills and a Guardian Rank increase.

The following is the description for these new skills, from the official patch notes:

In the Enforcer tree we’ve added “C’mon and Slam,” allowing you to use the slam at any height.  This should make slam gear a lot more interesting.  For the Survivor Tree, you can now enable “Too Angry to Die,” allowing any damage you do to enemies in Fight For Your Life to slightly extend your down time.  Finally, in the Hunter tree we added “Harmageddon,” where additional damage is done to enemies that have received multiple static effects.
