One of the biggest highlights of Final Fantasy XIV’s Fanfest event in London so far is, without a doubt, the official announcement of the first new job in the upcoming Dawntrail expansion. Whether it be novels, films, or games, sequels have been a dice roll in quality through the years. And then, you have true success stories like Diablo 2 and Starcraft 2 that really outdid their prequels and set a new benchmark for quality games.

Top 10 Best Souls-Likes If You Need a Break from FromSoft, Ranked

What first began as a PS3 exclusive back in 2009 — which I personally had to import from Japan to play early — soon paved the way for an entire genre. Yes, while Demon’s Souls may be the grandfather to FromSoftware’s signature formula, it’s safe to say that 2011’s Dark Souls is the aunt that everybody knows and loves. After all, it was the studio’s sophomore effort that really helped to solidify and popularise the core gameplay loop we find so fiendishly addictive to this day.

But what if you’ve played all of the From Software classics and you’re on the hunt for even more punishing gameplay? Better yet, what if you need a break from FromSoft-developed titles? Well, we thought that now would be the perfect time to run down the top 10 best Souls-likes to check out if you’re jones-ing for more. The twist? We’re not allowed to include any titles from the beloved Japanese studio that helped to establish the genre in the first place.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Is Proof that the Series Doesn’t Need to Be an RPG

Over the years, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has gone from a linear, focused storyline in an open world setting to evolving into role-playing games from the ground up. Although there’s not necessarily anything wrong with an RPG, they tend to stray away from what Assassin’s Creed had started as in more ways than one. Assassin’s Creed Mirage was hyped up to focus on going back to the basics, and it’s become a clear indicator that the RPG genre and Assassin’s Creed do not have to be blended together in order to find success.

That’s not to say that there aren’t aspects of RPG games that are suited very well to the Assassin’s Creed series. The map in Mirage as compared to some of the recent entries like Valhalla or Origins clearly demonstrates a change in the way the game is meant to be played, as well as the general breadth of everything that you’re able to do being more focused and concise. The story’s overall structure is the best example of just how great these games can be, without needing to be set up as RPGs.

6 Exotic Armors Getting Buffed in Destiny 2’s 23rd Season

Destiny 2’s update 7.2.5 has come, and with it players can expect changes to a half a dozen Exotic armors. The changes to Exotics with patch 7.2.5 seem to, sadly, be a grab bag of bug fixes and nerfs. For example, Antaeus Ward now only works when Titan’s class ability is off cooldown and no longer grants an improved slide. While Young Ahamkara’s Spine’s Tripmine Grenade HP buff is lowered to 70 from 100, with damage resistance removed. Beyond those disappointing nerfs, Bungie actually revealed some Exotic armor buffs in-game that are coming in the next Season but aren’t active just yet. So, let’s explore the 6 Exotic armors getting buffed in Destiny 2’s 23rd Season.

Nintendo did a great job maintaining the traditional 2D Mario identity while doing something wholly fresh and innovative. PSA: Make Sure to Pick Up Your Wondrous Tails Book as a Lvl 90 Class in FFXIV

6 months 1 week ago

Final Fantasy XIV has a vibrant abundance of activities for players to embark on and keep up with daily and weekly, to help bolster their characters and work towards some exciting rewards. One of the most popular, longtime ones is undoubtedly Khloe’s Wondrous Tails, which provides players with a huge weekly opportunity to not only earn some major XP for one of their classes, but also have the chance to win a variety of prizes, from gil, to MGP, to special tokens that can be traded for even more exclusive items. These tokens are called Khloe’s Certificates of Commendation, and they come in hues of Bronze, Silver, and Gold, the latter the most difficult to get and the key to the rarest of prizes. To make sure you have the chance to earn one, however, there is an unspoken rule of sorts.

When you pick up your fresh, new Wondrous Tails book for the week from the cute little Miqote named Khloe Aliapoh in Idyllshire (X:5.6, Y:6.1), you’ll notice in the Rewards list on the right side that there are four tiers of potential prize items, depending on your luck-based success with earning stickers from the list of qualifying duties. There are guaranteed rewards for getting the maximum 9 stickers, as well as even more rewards if you manage to complete one or more lines on the graph.

A Minecraft Player Has Provided a Solid Case for the Copper Golem’s Return

6 months 1 week ago

With each passing Mob Vote event, fans have continuously wondered about the lost creatures who didn’t make the cut, especially after the neck-and-neck race of the latest 2023 celebration. Although the armadillo took the top spot this year, Minecraft player Bogiihboi has suggested adding another beloved character based on the design of the new Trial Chambers. This creature is none other than the Copper Golem, who previously lost back in the Mob Vote 2021 event.

If you take a look at the layout of these chambers, you’ll notice just how much Copper lies within this vicinity, so wouldn’t it make sense to have a golem of the same type? Considering that the character can be made with this material similar to the Iron Golem, it seems plausible for it to be located there. Bogiihboi also proposes that the lost mob could be a statue that could be unoxidized to keep it as a companion.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Review – Amazing Indeed

6 months 1 week ago

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5

Sequels outdoing their predecessors is far from a new phenomenon. Throughout gaming’s history, follow-ups to even the most successful of titles have managed to raise the bar and offer gamers something even better than what they saw before. And I’m happy to say that Marvel’s Spider-Man is no exception to this phenomenon, as Spider-Man 2 outdoes both the first game and Miles Morales to provide one of the best PlayStation exclusives in recent memory.

Of course, this shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise. Taking place after some substantial preparation and setup on the part of developer Insomniac Games, it serves as the culmination of an interconnected narrative focused on Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and their relationships with the responsibilities that are inherent to being Spider-Man. Each has experienced hardship and loss, and this shaped them into who they are once the game kicks off.

The Souls-like Genre Needs a Break

6 months 1 week ago

Souls-like, whose name is an homage to the Dark Souls trilogy that spawned it, is as iconic as well known. And for good measure, because when Dark Souls hit the gaming scene in 2011, its unique design and challenge was nearly unheard of. Since then, souls-like games have come and gone and are punctuated by their interconnected worlds, RPG systems, deliberately measured combat, and challenging, spectacle boss fights. However, at some point in time, the genre became flooded with games that don’t do enough to differentiate themselves and innovate on the formula. Let’s explore why the souls-like genre needs a break.

Since 2011, FromSoftware has dominated the souls-like space with their Dark Souls franchise. So much so that after Dark Souls and Bloodborne became well known, it wasn’t uncommon to categorize a FromSoftware game as its own genre—Souls-borne. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and that sentiment could be felt in later titles that Dark Souls inspired.

Season after season, year after year, Destiny 2 players are subject to the same tired seasonal pass structure of meager materials, stale bonuses, and a pathetic number of cosmetics.

At a time when the Destiny 2 community’s faith in Bungie is low, an overhaul to a tired system in good faith could dramatically improve Bungie’s perception. With that said, let’s dive into 7 ways Bungie could improve Destiny 2’s stagnant season passes.
