Playdead's Next Game Is A Multi-Platform '3rd-Person Science Fiction Adventure'

3 years 3 months ago
Some details have been revealed about the new project coming from the creators of Limbo and Inside. Playdead's currently untitled project will be a "3rd-person science fiction adventure set in a remote corner of the universe," according to the job listings page on the studio's website. Within the Technical Director listing the 'Who We Are' section is slightly altered, adding that the game is being "built for multiple platforms on Unreal Engine." The openings also mention Playdead's company culture, noting that the studio's approach to development "does not include crunching towards arbitrary deadlines." Some new art from the game has also been found in the listings, which you can see in the gallery below. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=playdeads-next-game-9-pieces-of-art&captions=true"] It also notes that the game will be published by Epic Games, which we've known since March of 2020, when it was revealed that the publisher would be responsible for publishing the next games from gen Design (The Last Guardian), Playdead and Remedy Entertainment via its Epic Games Publishing division. The game was first teased back in March 2018, via postcards given out at the Game Developer's Conference. We still don't have a name or a release window for the game, but as the studio gears up for development, we'll be sure to let you know if we hear anything more. Switch Joy-Con Drift: Nintendo Now Facing Potential Legal Trouble in Canada, US, and Across Europe

3 years 3 months ago
Nintendo is the subject of yet another class-action lawsuit over its Switch console's ongoing Joy-Con drift issues, this time in Canada. It means Nintendo is now facing down potential legal trouble in Canada, the US, and across Europe. Québec-based law firm Lambert Avocat filed an application to bring a class action suit against Nintendo on January 15, seeking to "obtain a compensation for all Québec consumers who bought the Nintendo Switch™ and Nintendo Switch™ Lite gaming systems, as well as Joy-Con™ and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers." The firm says that drift - which sees Joy-Cons registering analog stick movement, even if they're not being touched - represents "an important, serious and hidden defect" that was not properly revealed by Nintendo. Lambert Avocat is now asking Québec residents to register as part of the suit on its website. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/11/joy-con-drift-is-still-a-huge-problem-3-years-later"] The issue of Joy-Con drift has been rearing its head since the Switch's release in 2017 – last year, we called it a disaster for the Nintendo. It's become a widespread enough issue that Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa formally apologised for the problem. This latest class action suit is just one of a slew of potential issues for the company surrounding the defect.

Fortnite Adds Sarah Connor and T-800 Terminator Skins

3 years 3 months ago
The newest skins joining Fortnite’s growing roster of pop culture hunters now include Sarah Connor and the T-800 from the Terminator franchise. The accompanying skin, back bling, and pickaxe are available now in the Fortnite Item Shop. Sarah Connor was teased earlier on in the season, but now it's official. As with other special skins from this season, Sarah Connor’s outfit will come with two variants, a T-800 Endoskeleton Arm Back Bling and Combat Knife. The T-800 skin comes with a built-in Emote, HK Sky Net Uplink Back Bling, and Techno-Grip Axe. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/fortnite-teases-terminator-skins-for-season-5"] The theme for the current season of Fortnite revolves around the multiverse’s greatest hunters. It's a bit nebulous, but it’s a theme that has allowed Fortnite to add skins from God of War, Predator, Halo, The Mandalorian, and now The Terminator. Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5, named “Zero Point” includes a new map, a quest and bounty system, and the aforementioned bevy of pop culture skins.

What to Expect From Star Wars in 2021

3 years 3 months ago
With so many Star Wars movies, TV series, comics, novels, and video games in the works, it's safe to say there's never been a better time to be obsessed with that galaxy far, far away. But to paraphrase Master Yoda, patience we must have. Many of these projects are still years down the road. So what can Star Wars fans actually look forward to in 2021? From new series like The Book of Boba Fett to ambitious publishing projects like The High Republic and games like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, here's everything Star Wars fans can look forward to over the next 12 months. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-upcoming-star-wars-movie&captions=true"]

Star Wars Shows on Disney Plus

If you're hungry for new Star Wars content (and after the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, who isn't?), you'll want to keep a close eye on Disney+ throughout 2021. We can look forward to three new Star Wars shows to debut on the streamer this year, two of them animated and one live-action.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/10/star-wars-the-bad-batch-official-sizzle-reel-trailer"] Most likely, Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be the first of these to materialize. This animated follow-up to Star Wars: The Clone Wars is set shortly after the events of Episode III and follows the titular team of elite Clonetroopers as they seek out a new destiny following the end of the war and the rise of the Empire. We don't know much else about the plot yet, though the first teaser trailer confirms the team will run into future Grand Moff Tarkin during the course of the series.

Every Announcement From Today's Resident Evil Showcase

3 years 3 months ago
Capcom's first Resident Evil showcase of 2021 covered a slew of upcoming projects in the long-running franchise, from the next major installment with Resident Evil Village, to a new multiplayer experience and one of the upcoming RE films. Here's a breakdown of everything announced, revealed, and shown during the showcase, including new gameplay, details, and more.

Resident Evil Village Release Date, Demo Details

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/resident-evil-village-story-trailer"] One of the biggest announcements of the showcase, Capcom confirmed Resident Evil Village will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 7, 2021. Additionally, there will be a demo later this spring for all platforms, but PS5 owners can get exclusive access today to the new "Maiden" demo. You can find out all about Resident Evil Village's release plans, including special edition details, as part of our coverage of the show. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=resident-evil-8-village-showcase-screenshots&captions=true"]

Resident Evil Village Gameplay

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/resident-evil-village-5-minute-gameplay-reveal"] Capcom centered much of the showcase around a new look at Resident Evil Village (aka Resident Evil 8)'s gameplay.

New Resident Evil Village Gameplay Details Revealed

3 years 3 months ago
We got our best look at Resident Evil Village — or Resident Evil 8 if you prefer — today during Capcom’s livestream reveal event. Here is a breakdown of all the new features, gameplay, and story elements we learned from the nearly 30-minute event. When the rumors began to go around that Resident Evil Village would be more supernatural, featuring enemies like werewolves, vampires (including a popular tall woman we now know is named Lady Dimitrescu), and witches, the internet became abuzz. Those rumors were confirmed during the official Resident Evil Village reveal last year, but that was only scratched the surface.

It’s still first-person, but combat has evolved.

Resident Evil Village is a sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Ethan Winters once again steps up to the main character role and he’s searching for a loved one, again. But this time it’s not his wife, but rather his kidnapped daughter. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/resident-evil-village-5-minute-gameplay-reveal"] As with Resident Evil 7, Village takes the first-person perspective once again, but Capcom producer Pete Fabiano says there are some new melee elements this time around. A big focus appears to be blocking and counters. During a fight against vampiric goons in a dungeon, Ethan can be seen blocking their attacks before kicking one in the chest. Ethan appears to have learned a few moves since the events of Resident Evil 7. Resident Evil games now firmly seesaw between more action-heavy games and survival-heavy games, and Resident Evil Village is seemingly going for something more bombastic than in Resident Evil 7. Melee attacks aside, enemies seem to attack in hordes now which should hopefully mean Ethan is loaded up with some extra firepower to take on the bigger numbers. So perhaps that’s an indication this entry will be a little more combat-heavy.

Resident Evil Village RE:Verse Multiplayer Announced

3 years 3 months ago
As part of Capcom’s Resident Evil Village reveal, Capcom producer Tsuyoshi Kanda revealed that as part of Resident Evil’s 25th Anniversary, a special multiplayer game called Resident Evil RE:Verse that will be free for anybody who purchases Resident Evil Village. RE:Verse is a competitive multiplayer mode where up to four players will play as one of several iconic Resident Evil characters. While the full roster hasn’t been revealed, the trailer shows protagonists like Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy, and Claire Valentine; as well as enemies like Nemesis and even Jack Baker from Resident Evil 7. Other characters shown include HUNK and Ada Wong, though who knows how many more characters will be available when RE: Verse is released. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/re-verse-resident-evil-village-multiplayer-reveal"] Beta tests for select Resident Evil Ambassadors are set to begin soon, so if you’re part of the program and have been chosen to test the beta expect invites in the future. Capcom has dabbled with Resident Evil multiplayer in the past. Most recently with the release of Resident Evil 3 Remake, when Capcom released a special game called Resident Evil Resistance. While Resistance is an asymmetrical multiplayer game that pit four players against a mastermind, RE:Verse on the surface appears more straightforward and combat-based.

Resident Evil Village Release Date, Exclusive PS5 Demo Revealed

3 years 3 months ago
During Capcom’s official Resident Evil Village showcase, the developer made a series of announcements, including an official release date, a new PlayStation-exclusive demo, and expanding the line of launch consoles to include the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Resident Evil Village will officially be released on May 7, with pre-orders starting today. When Capcom first announced Resident Evil Village, previously referred to as Resident Evil 8, the company only announced that it will be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Now, Capcom has announced that alongside next-gen systems, Resident Evil Village will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the same day as PS5 and Series X. Something Capcom previously said it was looking into, but could not confirm. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/21/resident-evil-village-story-trailer"] Furthermore, the PS4 owners will receive a free digital upgrade to the PS5 version, and Xbox Smart Delivery will automatically upgrade the Xbox One version for the Series X. As per usual, Capcom announced multiple versions of Resident Evil Village, starting at a standard edition all the way to a Collector’s Edition complete with collector’s box and Chris statue. Everspace 2 Early Access Review

3 years 3 months ago

Roguelikes might be enjoying their moment in the sun in recent years (just ask Hades, our Game of the Year for 2020), but Everspace 2 shows that procedural generation isn’t the only way forward. The original Everspace is a cool space fighter roguelike, but the sequel has changed course toward a more traditional action-RPG style, and its series of missions across an open region of space feel a lot more in the vein of Freelancer or Rebel Galaxy Outlaw as a result. But it holds onto its free movement system, which makes its combat stand out from other space shooters in style. There’s already a fair amount of it to explore at its early access launch, and it keeps things interesting by mixing in some puzzle-solving to break up the flashy dogfights.

No, A Naughty Dog Artist Didn't Leak an Unannounced Fantasy Game

3 years 3 months ago
Earlier this week, fans noticed that a Naughty Dog artist had posted fantasy-medieval themed artwork that was outwardly 'inspired by a new game', leading to speculation that Naughty Dog may be working on an unannounced project in that genre. The artist has now confirmed to IGN that that is not the case, and that the artwork was inspired by Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Hyoung Nam, a senior concept artist for Naughty Dog, posted three pieces of artwork under the title "The Women of North" in November, comprising a knight sitting beside a slain dragon, a shaman-like figure with a skull headdress and staff, and a green-eyed figure wearing clothes made from animal skin and bones. The pieces were posted with a caption originally reading, "Inspire from the new game. You know what I'm talking about..." After being circulated this week, some fans and media outlets speculated that the "new game" could be an unannounced Naughty Dog project. However, speaking to IGN, Nam explained, "The illustration is not for ND's next new game," and added that this was fan art inspired by and made while the artist played Assassin's Creed Valhalla (itself released last November). Nam has now updated the caption to make clear the connection to Valhalla. While some will likely be sad – after all, a dragon-slaying, medieval-shamanic Naughty Dog fantasy game actually sounds pretty amazing – let's focus on the fact that Nam's fan art was so cool, it briefly made people imagine an entirely new game. That feels like an artistic achievement in and of itself.

Magic: The Gathering Returns to Comics in April 2021

3 years 3 months ago
If you enjoy the lore and characters of Magic: The Gathering as much as the game itself, then you'll be pleased to hear the long-running franchise is returning to the comic book arena in 2021. Publisher BOOM! Studios has struck a new deal with Wizards of the Coast and parent company Hasbro to produce a new line of Magic: The Gathering comics, beginning with an ongoing monthly series simply titled Magic. Magic's creative team includes writer Jed MacKay (Black Cat), artist Ig Guara (Ghost-Spider), colorist Arianna Consonni and letterer Ed Dukeshire. You can get an exclusive first look at the covers to Magic #1 and Guara's character designs in the slideshow gallery below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=magic-the-gathering-returns-to-comics-in-april-2021&captions=true"] The series opens in the realm of Ravnica, whose planet-sized city is rocked by assassination attempts against three Guildmasters, Ral Zarek, Vraska, and Kaya. The trio will be forced to put aside their differences and travel to the plane of Zendikar to hunt the assassins. Boom is teasing a climactic showdown with a major Magic: The Gathering character. “Twenty-five years ago when I was digging through the commons and uncommons bin to build my first deck, I would never have thought that one day I would be handed the reins to the Magic: The Gathering comic, but here we are!” said MacKay in the publisher's press release. “I'm extremely psyched to be digging into the world of MAGIC and all that entails, and can't wait for all of you to see what we've been cooking up for you!” “It is amazing to be able to tell a story in the universe of a game I have been playing for over 20 years! I battled the Affinity deck and watched the Phyrexian take over Mirrodin,” said Guara.

Resident Evil Village: 'Re:Verse Mode' and Deluxe Edition Details Leak

3 years 3 months ago
A Humble Bundle store page listing has revealed that Resident Evil Village will feature a mode called Re:Verse. Further details about what bonuses will feature in the game's deluxe edition have also been revealed ahead of today's Resident Evil Showcase stream. Twitter user Edward_Outcast first spotted the leak, posting it to Twitter. The copy they've screen-capped is sourced from the Humble Bundle store page for Resident Evil Village, which is still live as of writing. The description mentions that both versions of the game will include a new mode called Re:Verse. It's not clear yet whether this is a multiplayer mode or something else, but the copy surrounding it mentions "end of service" and its availability suggests as such. "Details of the operational period for Resident Evil Re:Verse, including commencement of availability and any potential announcements relating to the end of service, can be found on the official website," the copy reads. "Please note that, depending on the timing of your purchase of Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil Re:Verse may already no longer be available, and/or the title may become available through other means in the future." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/16/resident-evil-8-village-gameplay-trailer"] The description also links to a website for Re:Verse, which isn't live just yet. The store page also lists the items contained in the Deluxe Edition of the game. Players who purchase the Deluxe Edition will pick up the 'Trauma Pack' which contains "the "Samurai Edge" weapon, the "Mr.

Gabe Newell Says Valve Has More Games in Development, Waiting to Be Announced

3 years 3 months ago
In an interview with New Zealand's 1 News, Valve boss Gabe Newell has said that multiple games are in development at the studio, and are waiting to be announced. The Valve co-founder has been staying in New Zealand during the COVID-19 pandemic after taking a vacation there following the launch of Half-Life: Alyx. "We definitely have games in development that we're going to be announcing — it's fun to ship games," Newell said when asked about future games coming out of Valve. Valve has developed - and subsequently cancelled - a lot of games in the past (including several versions of Half-Life 3). The fact that Newell specifically says these new games will be announced suggests a shift from the company's recent history of being reticent to release new software. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/18/ign-first-half-life-alyx-gabe-newell-interview"] Newell also spoke about the process of creating Half-Life: Alyx, and Valve's return to single-player: "Alyx was great — to be back doing single-player games, that created a lot of momentum inside of the company to do more of that." Newell's comments also suggest that the studio is energised and keen to work on more single-player titles, which makes sense considering the plot of Half-Life: Alyx. It means that we may see more of Gordon Freeman (or hell, maybe even Chell?) in the future.

LEGO Ideas Metroid Set Reveals Huge Ridley Add-On in Fan-Created Project

3 years 3 months ago
A fan-created LEGO set featuring characters from the Metroid franchise received another milestone update today as Ridley has now been added to the project. It features fully articulating arms, legs, a tail, and head, and can even grab minifigures in its hands. Ridley has been one of bounty hunter Samus Aran's longtime arch nemeses throughout the series dating back to the original NES/Famicom title, appearing in many subsequent games and even becoming a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after being one of the most-requested characters for years. But this LEGO creation might be one of Ridley's coolest iterations yet. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=lego-metroid-fan-project&captions=true"] The project by user L-DI-EGO actually began in May 2020, but has received a steady stream of updates as more supporters have backed the project, including multiple helmet styles for Samus, space pirate variants, and an alternate Hunter-class gunship variant seen in the Metroid Prime series. LEGO Ideas is a website where master builders can submit their ideas and if 10,000 people support the project it will be reviewed by a panel of LEGO experts and potentially be made into a real set.

Fortnite Predator Challenges: How to Unlock the Jungle Hunter Set

3 years 3 months ago
The Predator has officially landed in Fortnite. Decloaking near his pod, Battle Pass holders are expected to hunt down the elusive alien in order to nab his skin. This is easier said than done – he isn’t a pushover like the Mandalorian. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/13/fortnite-how-to-complete-the-first-predator-challenges"]

How to Unlock the Predator Skin in Fortnite

In order to unlock the Predator skin, players will need to complete a set of challenges. These are as follows:
  • Find the Predator’s Mysterious Pod
  • Talk to 3 NPCs – Beef Boss, Remedy, and Dummy
  • Collect 3 Health Packs
  • Defeat Predator

Where to find the Predator's Pod

The Predator’s Pod can be found in the top left corner of Stealthy Stronghold.

Where to Talk to Beef Boss, Remedy, and Dummy

Beef Boss can be found either at the Durr Burger food truck or the Durr Burger restaurant. Remedy and Dummy aren’t too far away, positioned just North of the food truck in a house and around Pleasant Park respectfully.

Collect 3 Health Packs

The last challenge is Collecting 3 Health Packs. Health packs can be found all around the map and to make matters easier, simply pick up (and drop) the first one you find three times to complete this challenge.

How to Find the Predator in Fortnite

By completing the Predator challenges, players were able to unlock emotes, sprays, and more. The real prize involves hunting The Predator himself. Thankfully, he isn’t that tough to find. All you have to do is head to Stealthy Stronghold (the same place where his pod crashed) and look around.

Among Us Developer Explains Why Updates Have Taken So Long

3 years 3 months ago
Among Us developer Innersloth has released a development log, promising a 2021 content roadmap and explaining why updates to the game have taken longer than might have been expected. As noted on the Innersloth blog, the enormous, and sudden success of Among Us led to major changes for the game - not least cancelling a sequel in favour of updates for the original. Less visibly, the popularity of the game led to a lot of change behind the scenes, and Innersloth has been  setting up a means to work on the game and its updates in a more sustainable fashion as a result: "We had to spend 2 months just restructuring, figuring out new processes, and getting external partners to help us manage on board," the blog reads. "If we wanted this to work long term and hire up, we needed to streamline things. It’s all behind the scenes work, and while it meant time away from the game, it’ll make it easier for current and future us to develop the game better," Innersloth adds. "We want to do more for you to show you how grateful we are, but without sacrificing on the quality and values we had before this blew up." Clearly, the small team is heads down right now working on new content for the game and ensuring it is ported to new platforms in the near future. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/22/among-us-review"] As for what's coming now that a lot of that work is done, Innersloth says it will soon release a 2021 roadmap.

An Early Build of Ocarina of Time Allowed Link to Turn Into Navi

3 years 3 months ago
A development build of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been discovered and it reveals an in-progress look at Kakariko Village, an early archery test, and that Link could have turned into Navi via the Soul Medallion. As reported by Eurogamer, this demo, which was shown off at Spaceworld '97, was found on an old N64 development cartridge that was used to hold F-Zero X. Once further inspected, the Zelda demo build was found, and although it was partly saved-over, there was still plenty to see. Shared by Forest of Illusion on Twitter, one of the most surprising reveals was Link being able to turn into Navi via the Soul Medallion.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/20/i-saw-black-clouds-official-teaser-trailer"] I Saw Black Clouds puts players in control of Kristina, who returns to her hometown after a friend dies. Looking for answers, she unearths a series of dark secrets that reveal a shocking truth. The interactive movie will feature supernatural elements alongside its thriller plotline, suggesting there’s more going on than just a suspicious death. The storyline branches based on decisions made by players during a number of moral choice sequences. In addition, the movie tracks your actions and monitors them in accordance to five personality traits; honesty, strength, morality, tact, and introspection. Your activity is also categorized as displaying either denial, acceptance, or guilt, and these factors are all taken into consideration as the story branches and develops. Tracking of your relationship statuses and personality determines the resolution at the end of the movie, as well as individual scenes and even the storyline as a whole. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=i-saw-black-clouds-screenshots&captions=true"] For streamers, a dedicated streaming mode will automatically pause the game when choices are presented, allowing creators to discuss with audience chat and decide on the next course of action. The completely live-action film stars Nicole O'Neill (Penny Dreadful), Rachel Jackson (Outlander) and Larry Rew (Avatar), and was filmed in the UK.

The Man Who Created Captain Falcon, Fox McCloud, Majora's Mask and More Has Retired from Nintendo

3 years 3 months ago
Takaya Imamura, the Nintendo artist and designer who gave us characters like Captain Falcon and Fox McCloud and more – not to mention the name and visual identity of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask – has retired from the company. As reported by Kotaku, Imamura announced that it was his last day working at Nintendo on his Facebook page, after 32 years with the company. “This is my last day going to work. I took a selfie with the empty office. I guess I won’t be coming in here anymore. As you’d expect, I’ll miss it,” Kotaku's translation of his commemorative Facebook post reads. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/11/13/star-fox-zero-introducing-star-fox-trailer"] Imamura worked on character designs across the F-Zero and Star Fox series, creating iconic Nintendo characters like Captain Falcon and Fox McCloud among many more. More recently, he directed two Steel Diver games, and was a supervisor on the last two Smash Bros. releases. He was also the art director of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, responsible for the design of the eponymous mask and the game's name, as well as the character Tingle.

God of War Studio's Unannounced Second Project Is Seemingly Still in the Works

3 years 3 months ago
Sony Santa Monica's unannounced second project looks like it's still in the works, according to a job listing for an Art Director position at the studio. A tweet from the official Sony Santa Monica account (below) notes that the studio is "seeking an experienced Art Director for the development of a new unannounced title". There's not much else to go on in the job listing itself, beyond the fact that it's aiming to be a "genre-defining" game, and that it will involve "characters and creatures".

Guerrilla Slows Down Horizon Zero Dawn PC Updates to Focus on Sequel

3 years 3 months ago
Guerrilla announced on Tuesday that they will release patches for Horizon Zero Dawn on PC at a slower rate as they work on the game's sequel. In a post on Guerrilla's website, Guerrilla announced that Patch 1.10 is now live for Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition on PC, which "introduces crash fixes and performance improvements." Guerrilla also said that more updates will come to the PC version, but more focus is going towards Horizon Forbidden West. "As our team continues development on our upcoming title Horizon Forbidden West, we are shifting to less frequent updates for Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PC after this patch," the statement says. "Please note that we will continue to monitor our community spaces as always!" [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/05/horizon-zero-dawn-21-minutes-of-pc-gameplay-at-max-settings-1080p-60fps"] Horizon Zero Dawn launched on PC in August 2020, three years after its original release on PS4 in 2017. The PC port received praise for visual improvements, but performance issues were common. IGN's analysis of a pre-release version of the Horizon PC port commented on how some of the graphics options are "actively detrimental to performance or perceived smoothness in non-obvious ways." Guerrilla has since released multiple patches for the PC port.

Hacker Creates Mario Kart, Ring Fit Exercise Game and Homemade Nintendo Direct to Reveal It

3 years 3 months ago
Hacker Mike Choi, who you might know as the engineer and co-designer of the Nintendo Flip Grip, revealed his latest unofficial Nintendo peripheral last week, complete with its own Nintendo Direct-style reveal. It’s called the Labo Fit Adventure Kart. The Labo Fit Adventure Kart is a multi-part invention that combines the Ring Fit Adventure Ring-Con, Nintendo Labo-inspired cutouts, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and an exercise bike, into a single workout game hybrid. The basic mechanic of the Labo Fit Adventure Kart is that the pedaling on the exercise bike will accelerate your kart in-game, while items and directional controls are handled by squeezing and turning the Ring-Con. The engine that pulls all these elements together is a home-brewed robot that Choi calls TAPBO, which is responsible for making the whole thing playable. Check out a brief video overview below. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/19/hacker-creates-nintendo-labo-ring-fit-exercise-bike-game"] IGN spoke with Choi on the origins and design process of the Labo Fit Adventure Kart which Choi says was an idea he came up with while playing Tetris 99 a year ago. “I’m not a very fitness-oriented person,” Choi tells IGN. “I don’t exercise regularly and I ate an entire Costco-size box of Oreos this past week. So I decided to set a challenge for myself: to pedal on an exercise bike during the entire duration of a Tetris 99 game.” Choi says a game of Tetris 99, for him at least, felt like a good length for a cardio workout.

Hearthstone's First Mini-Set Has Been Unveiled – See All 35 New Cards

3 years 3 months ago
The Hearthstone team today revealed the game’s first “mini-set” – The Darkmoon Races, which is a collection of 35 brand new cards that will be hitting the game on January 21 in NA (January 22 in Asia Pacific). Typically, the Hearthstone team releases three large sets of cards each year, with balance adjustments and special events in-between to help keep the game feeling fresh, so this mid-meta card injection represents a fresh approach. The cards feature mechanics from all three sets released during the Year of the Phoenix - Ashes of Outland, Scholomance Academy and Madness at the Darkmoon Faire – so that means more dual-class cards, dormant minions, spellburst effects and cards that can be corrupted. The set as a whole contains four legendaries, one epic, 14 rare and 16 common cards and you can see them all below. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=hearthstones-darkmoon-races-full-set&captions=true"] Once the set has been released, the cards will start showing up in Madness at the Darkmoon Faire card packs. Players can also, however, simply purchase the entire set as it will be available as a bundle for either $14.99 USD ($19.95 AUD) or 2000 gold. This will contain 66 cards in total - two copies of each common, rare and epic card, as well as one copy of each legendary card.

The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of Cyberpunk 2077's Subreddit

3 years 3 months ago

It was inevitable. Cyberpunk 2077 had simply existed in the hype cycle for too long. When it finally arrived in early December, after numerous delays, controversies, sizzle reels, and previews, it felt as if a shrieking, collective mania was doomed to subsume the culture. All of this energy, finally exhausted, in one white-hot moment. Few studios enjoy CD Projekt Red's dual pedigree; both an indie messiah and a gargantuan triple-A moneymaker, and when the company announced they'd be leaving The Witcher behind for a sojourn in Mike Pondsmith's glossy, gutter-tech Cyberpunk universe back in 2012, it already seemed like the hype was boiling to a dangerous smoke point. Naturally, by the end of 2020, Cyberpunk taught the rest of the gaming industry a valuable lesson; if your product stumbles out of the gate after years and years of marketing hype, your community will let you know. And in Cyberpunk’s case, this was nowhere more evident than in its subreddit.

PS5 Custom Plate Maker Returns After Cancelling All Previous Orders

3 years 3 months ago
CMP Shells, the company that had to cancel its customers' orders for custom PlayStation 5 shells last year, is selling its shells again. The PS5 custom plate maker has three designs available in its store ranging in price from $49.99 to $69.99, depending on what you want, and they're expected to arrive at the end of February. Last time CMP Shells was selling PS5 shells, they sold out quickly and it wasn't long before Sony got involved and pressured the company to cancel all sales. That shouldn't happen this time, according to CMP Shells. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/19/ps5-owners-are-making-their-own-custom-plates-ign-daily-fix"] "The patent is pending and all sales finalized before it's approved are untouchable," CMP Shells says in its frequently-asked question of whether or not the company will get sued by Sony. "We didn't know before. Now we do. Further, we have not replicated anyone's proprietary design. Our shells improve upon the original by allowing for more ventilation. We will be able to sell even after the patent is approved." CMP Shells is currently selling three shells: an all-black shell for the PS5 for $49.99, that same shell with a matching DualSense controller shell for $69.99, and a Kratos bundle for $69.99 that features the insignia from the God of War: Ragnarok trailer shown last year. These three choices are all that CMP Shells is currently selling. CMP Shells PS5 Shells When CMP Shells had to cancel its orders last year, it was confident it would return in some capacity.

Capcom Likely to Release Some of the Rarest Amiibo Ever Made... Again

3 years 3 months ago
Capcom has a bit of history with releasing ultra-rare amiibo, and is likely to repeat that history with some Japan-only gold Monster Hunter Rise figurines. As Eurogamer points out, a set of gold versions of the three Monster Hunter Rise amiibo will be made available as part of a lottery to those who buy the game as a download code from Japanese 7-Eleven stores. [caption id="attachment_246270" align="alignnone" width="1200"]MHR_DL_210113_seven_img02 The gold Monster Hunter Rise amiibo.[/caption] While Capcom hasn't formally said how many sets of the gold amiibo will be released, past evidence suggests they'll be extremely hard to come by. Capcom previously ran a similar competition for a gold Mega Man 11 amiibo, only releasing 10 of the figurine.
