GTA 6 Unlikely This Year As Take-Two Plans 21 Games For Release Between Now And March

2 years 11 months ago

Update: Immediately following the publication of this piece, Take-Two reached out to inform IGN that it was delaying its announced NFL partnership game past March 2022, meaning that it has two "immersive core releases" from new franchises that have not yet been announced, one of which is being developed by Gearbox.

Original story:

With its full-year financial results today, publisher Take-Two Interactive announced it plans to release a total of 21 games between now and the end of its fiscal year in March 2022. Unfortunately, it looks like none of these will be Grand Theft Auto 6.

While we don't know the names of all these games yet, existing announcements, trends, and Take-Two's own analysis can help us break down exactly what to expect.

Per Take-Two's own analysis, four of these games are "immersive core releases," with two from new franchises and two from existing franchises. One of the games from a new franchise is likely the new NFL game coming out of the partnership Take-Two announced with the league last year for a "non-simulation football game experience." And one, Take-Two says, is being made by Gearbox, giving no further details.

For the two existing franchises, one is definitely WWE 2K22, which was announced at Wrestlemania last month. The second is most likely a new NBA 2K game, as the series has had a consistent pattern of annual releases going back years.

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition Changes Fans Love, From Tali's New Face to Changing a Character's Race

2 years 11 months ago
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is out and it brings a litany of changes to the series — some announced and some kept secret until it was in the hands of fans — and players are still discovering more. Leading up to the release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, EA and BioWare detailed many of the changes coming to the series. IGN's Mass Effect Legendary Edition wiki guide breaks down many of those changes and it's worth checking out, but many new things are being discovered daily. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/13/mass-effect-legendary-edition-the-10-biggest-changes"] Some come as big surprises, such as a fix to a decade-old bug, while others serve as reminders to just how much time has passed since the release of the original trilogy of Mass Effect games. IGN has rounded up some of the biggest, best, well-hidden, and most-surprising changes to BioWare's sci-fi trilogy.

Tali's Face in Mass Effect 3

Anyone familiar with the original Mass Effect 3 release knows that it answered a question asked by many a Tali fan: what does Tali look like under her quarian armor? If you romance Tali in Mass Effect 3, this relationship leads to a scene in which Commander Shepard looks at a photograph of an unmasked Tali and...saw what was a photoshopped image of Miss England '05 winner, Hammasa Kohistani. Sure, BioWare did add some alien features to Kohistani's face in the photo, but at the end of the day, it was still just a photo of a human. It's safe to say BioWare took that criticism to heart because in the Legendary Edition of Mass Effect 3, Tali's face is now seemingly an original piece of art and not a photoshop of a pageant winner.

Call of Duty Warzone: Rambo and John McClane Release Date Announced

2 years 11 months ago
Call of Duty has confirmed that Rambo and John McClane, two 80s action heroes, will be joining Call of Duty: Warzone, Black Ops Cold War multiplayer, and Call of Duty: Mobile as part of the mid-season update. Both characters will be available across all three currently active Call of Duty games starting on May 19 at 9 pm PT/12 am ET. The two will be available for Call of Duty Mobile on May 20.

John McClane and Rambo enter the fray

John McClane, star of the Die Hard series with Bruce Willis, is a cop who finds himself in a deadly hostage situation on Nakatomi Plaza. Meanwhile, Rambo, the hero played in the movies by Sylvester Stallone, is a double-crossed special force who has to go off the grid to get revenge. Both characters are 80s icons that went on to launch two highly successful action franchises, way before superheroes took over the cinemas. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=call-of-duty-warzone-80s-action-movies-event&captions=true"] McClane will be available in the “Die Hard” bundle which goes live in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone stores on May 19 to June 18 at 9 pm PT and includes the McClane Operator, a finishing move, three weapon blueprints — a tactical rifle, two SMG, and one assault rifle — a Legendary Calling Card and Emblem, an Epic Watch, and an Epic Weapon Charm. Rambo will be available during the same time in the “Rambo” bundle which includes Rambo, two Finishing Moves, his signature bow and arrow, three weapon blueprints — an assault rifle, LMG, and Knife — a Legendary Calling Card and Emblem; and Epic Watch and charm. Beyond just the two playable characters, Nakatomi Plaza from Die Hard and the Survival Camps and CIA Outpost from Rambo will be added to the Verdansk map for a limited time.

Don't Expect Hollow Knight: Silksong News at E3 2021

2 years 11 months ago
Team Cherry does not have any announcements or blogs planned for Hollow Knight: Silksong at E3 this year, and so the wait for more news about the game continues. Another blow to fans desperate for more information about Silksong, Matthew Griffin, a member of the marketing and publishing team for the game, has revealed that Team Cherry won't have anything to say about Silksong at E3 2021. It seems Griffin announced the news on Discord, but users on the Hollow Knight subreddit pointed it out and the post has nearly 200 comments discussing this news, or rather, lack thereof. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/02/14/hollow-knight-silksong-reveal-trailer"] "Hey guys," Griffin said. "I just wanted to pop in to let you know that Team Cherry does not have any announcements/blogs scheduled for E3 this year." Obviously anything could happen, but this statement is pretty clear: don't expect any Silksong news during E3 2021 next month. The users on the game's subreddit are taking the news quite well, with many supporting and praising the team for announcing this weeks ahead of time to avoid the disappointment that might have happened otherwise. "I respect them for coming out and saying it so people don't get upset and yell at the team when nothing happens," Redditor Mr_Mimiseku said. "Doesn't mean I'm not antsy to get a hold of this game with my grubby little fingers.

No Man's Sky Among The First VR Games to Support Nvidia DLSS

2 years 11 months ago
Nvidia has announced the first VR games to support its DLSS technology, among which is No Man's Sky. In a new GeForce blog post, Nvidia details the next nine games that will receive the DLSS upgrade, improving the game's performance when running these games on either an Nvidia RTX 20 or RTX 30 graphics card. Three of these titles, No Man's Sky, Wrench, and Into the Radius, support virtual reality in some capacity, whether it is required or an optional feature. They mark the first VR titles to support DLSS, which could improve the games greatly, even on the more performance-restrictive medium. DLSS – or deep learning super sampling – is an image upscaling technology created by Nvidia. An exclusive to the company's graphics cards, the technology uses AI to upscale lower resolution to produce an image that looks like a higher resolution, without needing to use a significant amount of extra performance power to do so. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=https://www.ign.com/slideshows/no-mans-sky-dlss-performance-chart=true"] The headliner here is No Man's Sky, which will offer the option to play the game with or without a virtual reality headset and receive DLSS support. Nvidia claims that, with an Oculus Quest 2 and an RTX 3080 GPU, the DLSS will double No Man's Sky's VR performance when running it on the Ultra graphics setting, while maintaining 90 FPS. Of course, it is important to keep in mind that the performance improvements can vary by specs and driver version. Alongside a boost in performance for the VR mode, No Man's Sky without a virtual reality will also get DLSS for desktop.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade: New Images Showcase the Summon Ramuh, Nero

2 years 11 months ago
New details, screenshots, and the official keyart for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade have been revealed, and they showcase the Summon Ramuh, the return of Nero, the Fort Condor mini-game, and more. We first see the return of Dirge of Cerberus' Nero the Sable - a member of an elite unit within Deepground known as Tsivets. He also happens to be the brother of Deepground's leader Weiss, who he "practically worships." He was created by a special experiment and can manipulate the power of darkness. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=final-fantasy-7-remake-intergrade-screenshots-ramuh-fort-condor-mini-game-nero-and-more&captions=true"] Scarlet and The Crimson Mare will also play a big role in the upcoming DLC, and Scarlet, who is Shinra's director of Advanced Weaponry, is in charge of creating the ultimate materia Wutai wants to steal. Yuffie and Sonon will run into Scarlet, and she "graciously" lets them be test subjects for the Crimson Mare - a "suit of battle armor she developed and pilots herself." Yuffie's Final Fantasy 7 Remake INTERmission episode was a spotlight, and it was explained that while new character Sonon can't be directly controlled, using the L2 button will let Yuffie and Sonon use Synergised attacks. These include Art of War, which hits an enemy and increases the damage of future attacks, and Windstorm, which creates a gust of wind to damage enemies and launch them towards you. Yuffie's Limit Breaks were also revealed, and they include Bloodbath, which unleashes a flurry of blows and deals major damage, and Dance of the Dragon, which delivers a ton of high-powered strikes. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/07/final-fantasy-7-remake-intergrade-final-trailer"] The mini-game Fort Condor from the original Final Fantasy 7 is also making a return, albeit in a slightly different form.

GTA 5 and GTA Online: PS5 and Xbox Series Upgrades Coming in November

2 years 11 months ago
GTA 5 and GTA Online will receive PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions on November 11 – and Rockstar has promised 'surprises' related to the upcoming 20th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto 3. Announced in a press release, the new-generation upgrades of both Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online will be "expanded and enhanced", and come with as-yet-unannounced new features. Updates added to GTA Online this summer will also "include special benefits for players to take advantage of in these expanded and enhanced versions when they drop." More intriguingly, Rockstar is also promising "surprises" related to the 20th anniversary of the release of GTA 3 – including some related to GTA Online. It's not clear just yet what that will entail. GTA 3 was first released on October 22, 2001, so it shouldn't be all too long before Rockstar begins announcing what those surprises could be. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/20/green-versus-purple-the-alien-gang-war-that-hijacked-gta-online"] GTA Online will be released as a standalone game on both PS5 and Xbox Series consoles – and for three months after release, it'll be totally free to PS5 owners. No pricing has been revealed for the Xbox version at launch. PlayStation Plus subscribers can claim $1 million of in-game currency every month until the updated version launches. GTA Online was announced for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles last year, with exclusive content announced for new-gen versions and PC.

The Ascent Takes Us to a New Cyberpunk Dystopia in July

2 years 11 months ago

We also made clear to point out its cyberpunk visual credentials: "If the developers had acquired the Blade Runner license for this game, they wouldn’t have to change a thing aside from the name. It’s really, really potent from a visual standpoint, and I like that about it." If you want a closer look at that cyberpunk dystopia, make sure to check out the gallery of new screenshots below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-ascent-may-2020-screenshots&captions=true"] The Ascent was originally billed as an Xbox Series launch game, but suffered a delay shortly before next-gen consoles arrived.

The Ascent Is a Dash of Diablo With a Healthy Dose of Twin-Stick Shooter

2 years 11 months ago
The Ascent was, for me, one of the standout games from Microsoft’s very first next-gen showcase exactly one year ago, when they showed off a ton of third-party exclusives like Bright Memory Infinite and Second Extinction. And so I was pretty excited to finally get to play it – which, for transparency, was with mouse and keyboard controls through a PC streaming service. Anyway, it quickly became clear that The Ascent is an action-RPG that’s more like a twin-stick shooter; you’ve got melee special abilities but, from the couple of early missions I played, you’ll primarily be slaying bad guys through a Halo-style two-slot gun system. I’ll talk more about gameplay in a moment, but one thing is absolutely certain: The Ascent has its cyberpunk aesthetic nailed to a ‘T’. I’ve got to talk about that cyberpunk vibe first, because The Ascent absolutely nails it. Bright, oversaturated pinks, purples, and blues are everywhere, and the world has an appropriately dirty and gritty feel. If the developers had acquired the Blade Runner license for this game, they wouldn’t have to change a thing aside from the name. It’s really, really potent from a visual standpoint, and I like that about it. It even managed to take me a bit by surprise when I dropped into the game world, because the character creator you start out in is fairly ho-hum compared to the fully decked-out cyberpunk world you get dumped into after finalizing your appearance. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-ascent-may-2020-screenshots&captions=true"] OK, so it’s got the look down, but how’s it play? Well, the first elevator pitch that I ever heard for The Ascent was “Judge Dredd Meets Diablo,” but after playing it, I’d say it’s really more like, “Hunter: The Reckoning But Cyberpunk.” Both are good things. This is an isometric action-RPG, yes, but you are twin-stick shooting the majority of the time.

Guilty Gear Actress Stepped Down to Support Black Voice Actresses

2 years 11 months ago
Voice actress Erin Fitzgerald has revealed that she stepped down from a role in Guilty Gear Strive – voicing Black character Ramlethal – so that the character could be more appropriately voiced by a Black actress. In a tweet, Fitzgerald states that she “happily stepped away so [the developers] could cast more appropriately”. She expanded upon this in responses to commenters on her initial post, stating succinctly, “The character is black I am not black. I support more work for black actresses behind the mic”. It’s clear that Fitzgerald stepped down in order to improve opportunities and representation for Black voice actors and actresses. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/12/guilty-gear-strive-ramlethal-reveal-trailer"] The gesture seems to have been a success, as voice actress Laura Stahl has now been cast in the role. Stahl responded to Fitzgerald in another tweet, thanking her for stepping aside, “Before I accepted the role of Ramlethal, l asked for clarification on the situation, and not only do I deeply respect Erin as an actor, but as an amazing person as well. Thank you for your grace. You are phenomenal”.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Update Includes Even More Visual Improvements

2 years 11 months ago
An update for Mass Effect Legendary Edition has added even more visual improvements to the remastered collection of games. Revealed on the EA blog, the 17 May update for Mass Effect Legendary Edition will affect all platforms and also fix several known bugs, including hard crashes in the Xbox Series X verison when using a wireless headset. However, the major headline is that the games in the remaster collection will seemingly look even better after the update. Specifically in Mass Effect 2, players will be able to enjoy ”improved lighting and shadows” in cinematics and “minor visual, rendering and VFX improvements”.

Murdered Teenage Footballer Being Added to FIFA 21

Kiyan Prince, a 15 year-old footballer who was murdered in 2006, is being added to FIFA 21 as a player for the club he played for. Prince was a part of the Queens Park Rangers F.C. under-16s team in 2006, but was tragically killed when stepping in to protect a friend from being picked on outside of his school. 15 years on, he is being added to FIFA's Kick Off and Career modes as a 30 year-old striker for Queens Park Rangers, designed to honour the player he would have become. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/18/fifa-21-kiyan-prince-gameplay"] EA Sports has created an aged-up likeness of Prince by combining images of him and photographs of his father at 30, and working with Framestore (the studio behind visual effects for multiple Marvel movies, among many other projects). "Advanced AI technology and photo-real illustration" was used to achieve the effect, per a press release. As for his in-game stats, the press release says: "Kiyan’s stats were built out in collaboration with his dad, his coaches, teammates and friends to help build out his style of play - working off of personal accounts from former teammates and rivals to get precise about Kiyan’s unique balance of speed, skill and pure striker’s instinct to integrate him into the game as faithfully as possible". Sony Files Patent for Betting Service That Could Accept Bitcoin or In-Game Items

2 years 11 months ago
Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a patent for a platform that would allow users to bet on esports using physical currency, bitcoin, or even in-game items. According to a listing on PatentScope, Sony initially filed the patent in 2019, but has only published it this month. The patent itself suggests a system where viewers of livestreamed esports events, such as fighting game tournaments, would be able to bet on the outcome of matches whilst watching the action play out in real time. The system would work via a user interface overlay that could be brought up over the stream in order for the user to place their bets. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/16/ps5-stock-to-be-limited-in-first-year-says-report-ign-news"] Bets placed could seemingly come in many forms, with the patent mentioning that "Wagers may be pecuniary, e.g., money or bitcoin, or may be non-pecuniary, e.g., game assets, digital rights, and virtual currency." That implies that you could earn and then bet, in-game currency, or even in-game items using the system. It's also possible that wagering "digital rights" could point to bets using NFTs (non-fungible tokens) in games. Odds for those wagers would be determined via machine learning, based off either the play history of the competing players, or their performance in the current match. Interestingly, the patent was not exclusively focused on Playstation, as it also references “game consoles such as Sony PlayStation or a game console made by Microsoft or Nintendo or other manufacturer virtual reality (VR) headsets, augmented reality (AR) headsets, portable televisions (e.g. smart TVs, Internet-enabled TVs), portable computers such as laptops and tablet computers, and other mobile devices including smart phones”.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Addresses One the Series' Bigger Controversies

2 years 11 months ago
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition updates a lot of elements from the trilogy, some big, some small – and one little change addresses one of the series' biggest controversies. Spoilers follow for Mass Effect 3 – proceed at your peril! [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/13/mass-effect-legendary-edition-the-10-biggest-changes"] One of the ever-present characters throughout the original Mass Effect trilogy was Tali'Zorah, a quarian party member who – like the rest of her race – cannot remove her suit and helmet due to an acute risk of disease. That means, throughout the three games, players are never shown what a quarian looks like – that is unless players choose to romance Tali. In Mass Effect 3, romancing Tali leads to a scene in which Commander Shephard looks at a photograph of an unmasked Tali. In the original version of the game, fans were disappointed to find that, after all three games, the image was a Photoshopped version of a stock image depicting Miss England '05 winner Hammasa Kohistani. The reaction was strong enough for Tali's photo to make it onto IGN's list of Mass Effect 3 controversies. As part of its many updates, however, the new Legendary Edition has quietly altered the image, now depicting an actual unmasked Tali using in-engine visuals.

Amazon's New World to Have Paid Items that are 'Exclusively Cosmetic' at Launch

2 years 11 months ago
Amazon's New World is set to have paid items that are "exclusively cosmetic in nature" at launch, and quality of life items and a battle pass-style program may come later. Studio director Rich Lawrence took to Twitter to respond to questions from the community regarding New World's Alpha patch notes that discuss the in-game storefront. He reassured fans that this store is to "create an outlet for players who find enough value in store items that they are happy to purchase them." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/11/new-world-hands-on-with-the-amrine-excavation-expedition"] He promises the plan isn't, and never will be, to "create a feeling that store items are necessary to enjoy the game." All players, according to Lawrence, will be able to enjoy the full game experience without ever having to purchase anything. When New World launches in August 2021, all store items will be "exclusively cosmetic in nature." The current storefront in Alpha is simply a test, and none of the selections or their indicated costs are final.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Director Says ME3's Multiplayer Could Return

2 years 11 months ago
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition project director Mac Walters has confirmed that Mass Effect 3's multiplayer could be added to the collection in the future if the demand is great enough. In an interview with CNET, Walters said that he would never "say no" to Mass Effect 3's multiplayer making a return after its omission in the Legendary Edition. "I would never say no to that -- we want to see what kind of reception the Legendary Edition gets and what the demand for the multiplayer is," Walters said. "And then we'll ask ourselves if we have the resources and time to bring it up to the quality level we and fans want." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2012/07/13/mass-effect-3-earth-multiplayer-map-firebase-rio-gameplay"] In our interview with Walters prior to release, he mentioned that the decision to leave Mass Effect 3's multiplayer out of the Legendary Edition came to to "knowing where to draw the line." "It obviously had a lot of challenges," Walters explained. "Everything from what you do with crossplay, because that's kind of an expectation now; what you do with people who are still playing multiplayer now — how do you honor that, how do you bring them in, can we somehow bridge that gap?

While cheating has been a huge problem in Call of Duty: Warzone, co-developer Raven Software has revealed that it has officially banned over 500,000 "malicious accounts" since the battle royale was released last year. Raven shared the news on Twitter, confirming that its latest banwave of 30,000 accounts has brought the total of banned accounts to over half a million. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-and-warzone-season-three-gameplay-trailer"] This is another step in the efforts by the teams behind Call of Duty to curb this cheating epidemic. Last month, the team shared an update as to how it was planning on combating these cheaters, including issuing bans seven days a week, tackling the commercial market of cheat providers and resellers, and stopping cheaters from moving to alternate accounts. Raven has also continued to fix exploits discovered in Warzone, including a map exploit in Verdansk '84, one that had a Mini Gun spawning from Supply Boxes, and one that allowed players to use the Gas Mask indefinitely. Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker Release Date Annouced

2 years 11 months ago
The next expansion for Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker will be released on November 23, 2021. Players who pre-order the expansion will be able to play four days earlier on November 19, 2021. The next major expansion for Square Enix's Final Fantasy 14 MMORP has officially been announced. Along with a new storyline, Endwalker will include two new classes, the healer Sage class and the DPS Reaper class. The latter was announced at the Digital Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest. The release date for Endwalker is considerably later than past Final Fantasy 14 expansions, which have typically been released mid-to late-summer. However, the developers have cited an abundance of content, plus complications with the coronavirus as reasons for the late release schedule. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/15/final-fantasy-xiv-endwalker-official-full-cinematic-trailer"] However, Square Enix and Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida have shown off quite a bit of content for the upcoming expansion. Yoshida premiered videos showcasing new areas and dungeons, plus the brand new class Reaper. This new class is a melee DPS that wields a scythe and can summon a spiritual avatar to aid them in combat. The Reaper joins the other new class Sage, a healer who can attack and heal using flying mechanical knives. As a final announcement, Yoshida also announced another playable character, the male Viera.
