Power Rangers Battle For The Grid--Season Pass 3 Is A Go-Go, And New Fighters Have Been Revealed

3 years 11 months ago

Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, the 2019 fighting game featuring the sentai warriors from the hit series, is expanding with three new characters. A third season of DLC has been announced with a trailer, and while only two fighters have been properly announced, it's pretty clear who the third one will be.

The trailer below shows off Robert “RJ” James and Lauren Shiba, but the comments below the video have uniformly identified the third character, shown in silhouette, as Scorpina, a long-time villain in the Power Rangers mythos.

The first content from this pass should drop towards the end of June, and in addition to the three extra fighters, anyone who buys it will also receive a new Phantom Beast King character skin for Dai Shi and a Samurai Megazord ultra.

This follows several other updates and DLC packs for the game. In February, the game received online lobbies, and previous DLC fighters have included Lord Zedd and Eric Myers.

As of March, Battle for the Grid was available through Xbox Game Pass. It's also on Switch, PS4, and PC.

3 years 11 months ago

LittleBigPlanet developers Media Molecule released their latest game Dreams for the PS4 in February, and now they're looking for help to refine the game's VR features, Video Games Chronicle reported.

The testing positions are open to European players, and while the company hasn’t specified what it's looking for in a tester, the application form asks about location, availability, previous testing experiences, and which devices you have available.

Testers will have to sign an NDA if accepted for the two-week process, which involved a preliminary briefing, two weeks of reporting based on short periods of gameplay, and a debrief session. Participants will be paid £200 (around $250 US) at the end of the testing period. Applications are now open for the limited positions here.

Valorant Devs Give Update On How Vanguard Anti-Cheat Will Work Post-Release

3 years 11 months ago

Riot's new team-based shooter Valorant is nearing the end of its beta, with only a few days of downtime before its full release. A new blog post from Riot has discussed this transition, and what differences beta players will find upon release--most notably with its Vanguard anti-cheat system.

When developing its new online FPS, Riot chose to take a hard stance on cheaters and griefers, with the cornerstone of this decision being the launch of its own proprietary anti-cheat software. When the closed beta of Valorant released with this software, Vanguard, it immediately caused concern among players for being far too aggressive in blocking drivers--even when the game wasn't active.

Thanks to the closed beta, Vanguard's powers have been scaled back, but one big change is in the works when it moves to full release. For the duration of the beta, while Vanguard was used to identify cheaters, those reports were still manually reviewed and ban decisions made by a human team (with this process still resulting in thousands of bans).

Formula E Esports Racing Driver Disqualified After Cheating

3 years 11 months ago

News of foul play has hit the Formula E esports racing scene. Daniel Abt, racing under ABT Schaeffler Audi, was disqualified after cheating allegations against him were substantiated over the weekend.

Suspicions were raised about whether or not Abt was actually the driver behind the wheel for Saturday's Formula E Race at Home Challenge, with his competition being the first to raise the red flags. Fox Sports reported that two other racers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorn, echoed each other's concerns about Abt when his performance in the Challenge appeared markedly different from previous results.

The organizers of the Formula E Race at Home Challenge investigated the allegations from Abt's competitors and after cross-referencing IP addresses, were able to confirm that the esports racing driver had not been driving at the time in question.

Call Of Duty: Mobile Is Adding The Gulag Soon, See A Teaser Now

Call of Duty: Mobile has a battle royale mode, but it's not quite the same as Call of Duty: Warzone. In particular, Call of Duty: Mobile doesn't feature Warzone's most unique and exciting features, the Gulag. It seems that's going to change very soon. Or it could be something else entirely.

The official Call of Duty: Mobile Twitter account posted a teaser video for what is very clearly the Gulag. The tweet says it's "coming soon."

This alert was posted not long after the Call of Duty: Mobile test servers were updated with references to the Gulag. Additionally, entire gameplay videos have been posted on YouTube that appear to show that Gulag will be a new map in Call of Duty: Mobile.

No More Heroes Director Would Like To See More Of His Games On Switch

3 years 11 months ago

Suda51's games have long been synonymous with Nintendo consoles, with each game in the No More Heroes franchise debuting first on Nintendo (including the upcoming No More Heroes III), and cult classic Killer7 originally debuting on the GameCube. As of right now, not many of games developed by his company, Grasshopper Manufacture, are available on Switch, and the eccentric designer says he would like to see that change--although it's not all up to him.

In a Q&A session during Momocon--as reported by VG247--Suda51 (whose legal name is Goichi Suda) talked about the possibility of bringing his older games to Switch, saying that it is largely up to the publishers. Capcom is in charge of Killer7, which received an updated PC port in 2018. Killer is Dead has split rights between Capcom and Kadokawa Games, which makes things more complicated.

Suda51 singled out another game as a more likely candidate--The Silver Case, which came to PS4 and PC in 2016 (and its sequel, The 25th Ward: The Silver Case, followed in 2018). According to Suda51, there has "been discussions" about bringing this game to Switch.

He also alludes to a potential remake of the 2001 PS2 game Rain, Flower, Sun, and Rain, although specific platforms were not discussed.

John Wick's Writer Has Pitches For TV Shows Based On Two Unusual Games

3 years 11 months ago

Derek Kolstad, best known as the writer of the John Wick film series and the creator of the character and world he occupies, is preparing to pitch TV adaptations of two video games. In an interview with Comicbook.com, Kolstad has revealed that he's working on pitches for shows based on My Friend Pedro and Bendy and the Ink Machine.

Kolstad says that he named these two projects because, "literally, I have these Post-It notes on my computer of, 'This is what I'm working on today.'" He's also attached to numerous other film projects, including two remakes with David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, the co-directors of the original John Wick--A Company Man with Leitch, and A Map From Nowhere with Stahelski.

My Friend Pedro is a 2019 side-scrolling action game celebrated for its stunt-heavy gameplay; it received a 7/10 in GameSpot's review. Bendy and the Ink Machine is a 2017 first-person horror puzzle game that sports a vintage cartoon aesthetic. Both are smaller titles with a lot of style, and both are pretty strange--which makes them interesting choices for adaptation.

Ghost Of Tsushima's Unexpected Inspiration, Long Journey To Release, And Intricate Combat

3 years 11 months ago

Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima has been a long time coming. The game was officially revealed at Paris Games Week in 2017, but development on the project began shortly after the release of Infamous: First Light in 2014. The studio has been working on the game for close to six years, a development cycle that almost encapsulates the PlayStation 4's entire lifespan. Whether by design or by fortuity, Sucker Punch showed off what Sony's console could do in its infancy and now is poised to show how far it has come in its maturation. Ghost of Tsushima is one of the last major first-party games announced for the PS4, releasing one month after The Last of Us Part 2.

The game they've made to show off that growth is, in the team's own words, more ambitious than anything Sucker Punch has done before. Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world, stealth action game that draws its inspiration from classical samurai cinema, but also looks to tell a grounded, poignant story about struggling against oppressors and the extreme lengths a person will go to in order to preserve their culture and community.

Ahead of Ghost of Tsushima's release on July 17, we talked to creative director Nate Fox about the studio's journey, the inspirations behind the game, and the intricacies of its gameplay.

Those PS5 October Release Date Rumors Aren't True, Says Sony

3 years 11 months ago

Following a job listing suggesting that Sony will launch the PlayStation 5 this October, the company has stated that the month was included in error. The PS5 is not confirmed for a launch in October, and the final release date--or even release window--is still unknown at this point. We'll have to wait for official word from Sony to learn when the console will launch, and with Sony saying that it plans to share details on PS5 launch games, that could come relatively soon.

The job listing was created for a position at Sony Interactive Entertainment, and hosted on a Japanese recruitment website. The line in question mentioned that the PlayStation 5 would launch in October, which was the first mention of an exact release month for Sony's next-generation console.

Japanese publication Famitsu contacted Sony for comment, who stated that the information was erroneously included by the recruitment company in question.

Fallout 76 Mole Miners Event Gets Extension Past Weekend

3 years 11 months ago

Bethesda Game Studios has unveiled two new Fallout 76 events that introduce new looting opportunities and in-game activities. One of these events is now live on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The first event is a hunt for mole miners who have emerged from their underground chambers to scour the lands for loot. These mole miners can be found around the Ash Heap region, where you can encounter them all weekend long. The event was originally scheduled to end on May 25 but was later extended to May 27, and will now and at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET that day. However, that still only gives you a few days to take part. Don't miss your chance, as it won't be available once that deadline hits and the next event won't start for several more days.

During the event, you can hunt down and take out mole miners and loot their packs for a bunch of gear. Additionally, these packs--called Miner Pails--can be bought from Vendor bots around Appalachia. These Miner Pails can then be used to craft the same packs the mole miners strewn about the Ash Heap use, and you can either keep them for yourself or trade them to others.

Is Xbox Going To Normalize The Cross-Gen Library?

3 years 11 months ago

As the next generation approaches, both Microsoft and Sony have been outlining their respective visions for the coming years. And while upgraded hardware that pushes more triangles is always a priority in the games industry, both companies have increasingly turned their messaging toward the consumer-friendly features of the impending Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. One such highlight from Microsoft, the promise of a unified library that works across generations, could signal the way forward for the industry as a whole.

Backwards compatibility has been a talking point for platform holders for years, but in practice, the feature has been spotty. Some generations have eschewed it almost entirely, as hardware architecture became more complex and distinct from prior generations, and this marked a stark distinction from PC where most games remain playable forever. Microsoft refocused efforts on backwards compatibility in a big way on Xbox One. After first cutting ties with the Xbox 360 library almost completely, the company made inroads with fans by announcing a major initiative to retroactively import older games through firmware updates that would increase compatibility. Nowadays, it's difficult to find a popular 360 game that isn't playable on Xbox One, and those who amassed a large digital collection in the heady days of Xbox Live Arcade can see it all waiting to be downloaded in their game library. This effort has extended to a selection of the original Xbox's library as well, giving players access to almost 20 years of games.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons -- Museum Day Stamp Rally Guide

3 years 11 months ago

International Museum Day is upon us, an actual holiday that exists, apparently. Never one to shy away from obscure holidays and seasonal events, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is treating the day as an in-game event. It's called the Stamp Rally, and it runs through May 31. That means you still have a few days left to participate before it will be gone, so read on to learn all about the event and how you can make the most of it.

Like the May Day event that took place at the beginning of the month, the Stamp Rally gives you a week to visit your island’s museum in order to collect stamps and give you an excuse to spend some time fully appreciating Blathers’ beautiful building of bugs, bones, and bass (among other fish). Read on for a look at what the Stamp Rally entails and then check out our look at the Animal Crossing events calendar.

How To Participate In Stamp Rally

Taking part in the Stamp Rally couldn’t be simpler. Head into your island’s museum and speak to Blathers, who will explain the event and invite you to visit three different wings of the building--the fish, bug, and fossil wings. The art wing, if you have access to it, isn’t a part of this Stamp Rally event.

When Is Animal Crossing's Next Event? New Horizons Events Calendar

3 years 11 months ago

Nature Day and May Day have come and gone in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The first events brought two new merchants to your island and a few bonuses that you can still learn more about in our Nature Day guide, though some things the holiday offered (like the bonus Nook Miles for special activities) are now over. But even if you missed these two events, there are still more planned for the near future, as well.

You can see what other events Nintendo has planned for Animal Crossing: New Horizons over the next two months below. Updates for the hit Nintendo Switch game will bring not only new features and visitors, but also a series of events that dot the calendar from now through the end of June. Still on the way are International Museum Day (next week) and Wedding Season. Here's when each one starts and what we know about it so far. We'll update this list as more events are announced.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fish Guide - How To Catch, Prices, Shadow Sizes, And More

3 years 11 months ago

There are a lot of different ways to make money in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and one of the best is by fishing for rare species. Similarly to bugs, there are tons of different types of fish that vary depending on a variety of factors, including the time of day, weather, and season. There are 80 to catch in New Horizons, and you can sell them, gift them, donate them, or display them. What you chose to do with them is up to you, but you'll need to actually catch them before making that decision.

Below, we have two tables--one for the Northern Hemisphere and one for the Southern Hemisphere--listing every fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, where and when you can catch them, and how much you can sell them for (which is a good way to make money in Animal Crossing). We've also broken down the fundamentals of fishing in Animal Crossing, including how to craft your first fishing rod, everything that can affect how and when fish spawn, and which seasonal fish you should focus on each month.

If you're determined to fill out your museum, you should also check out our guide to Redd's art and how to tell real art from the fakes. You can also look up every item in the game using the New Horizons catalog tool from our sister site GameFAQs.

Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Airport's Color Could Determine Other Item Colors

3 years 11 months ago

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is full of little details--so much so that people keep discovering new things about how the game works. One such discovery is by Reddit user PraiseHolo, who observed an interesting pattern when resetting their island: It seems that the color of your airport might determine the colors of some of the items you have access to, though the theory doesn't appear to be completely supported yet because of an apparent contradiction with snack machine colors.

By now, you might have noticed that different New Horizons players have differently colored versions of certain items. For every item that has multiple color options, you have a "native" color to your island, and that's the only color that will be sold at Nook's Cranny. On top of that, you also have a selection of items you can redeem Nook Miles for at the machine in Resident Services, and these items are also locked to one color per island. The Nook Miles rewards are the items that seem to be affected by airport color. You can see the alleged breakdown of color options in the graphic below, made and posted by PraiseHolo. (Note that this is not confirmed.)

It started with a big community event that requires players to band together and complete Seraph Tower events all over the solar system, and ends with a bunch of new Rasputin lore and a powerful new shotgun: Felwinter's Lie.

The community-wide step is complete, allowing players to progress the rest of the quest on their own. Unfortunately, the quest was slowed pretty significantly, thanks to a bug that messed up The Lie's final step, a mission called "The Tyrant." A new patch has fixed that step, so everyone can now complete it. Here's how to get Felwinter's Lie in your collection as quickly and painlessly as possible.

The Lie Quest Steps

Warmind Evaluation

The first portion of the quest requires you to visit Ana Bray, who says that the warmind Rasputin has information it wants to share with you--but not before the situation with the Almighty, the threat that has loomed over the entire Season of the Worthy, has been satisfactorily dealt with. To get it handled, you and the rest of the Destiny 2 community needed to head to the EDZ, Io, and the Moon, and complete Seraph Tower activities. The good news is, that part is done.

FF7 Remake Part 2--What We Know About The Next Game (Spoiler-Free)

3 years 11 months ago

Listen, I know we just recently got our hands on the long-awaited reimagining to one of the most beloved games ever with Final Fantasy 7 Remake. But as the first wave of folks work their way to finishing this 40-hour(ish) journey through Midgar--which was just the opening portion of the original game--we naturally begin to wonder where FF7 Remake goes from here. You probably have questions, like how many parts will it be, or how long will we have to wait for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, or whatever the next entry is called? When will the game release, and do we know if it will even really be a sequel? Will it launch on the same system, the PS4, or a new one?

For one, I would say relax and let the development team do their thing, because as a reminder, the next part in FF7 Remake is currently in development. In a Square Enix blog post back in November 2019, game director Tetsuya Nomura stated, "We've already begun working on the next one as well, but I'm confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar."

We Could Get More Physical 3DS Games, But This One Has To Sell Well

3 years 11 months ago

The pace of 3DS games has considerably slowed since the Nintendo Switch released, which is what made it so surprising to hear about a new physical release on the way. The publisher of the physical version has now said that other 3DS releases could follow, if this one does well enough.

The game is the Atooi Collection, a compilation of Atooi games including Mutant Mudds, Mutant Mudds: Super Challenge, Bomb Monkey, Xeodrifter, and Chicken Wiggle. The physical version is being handled by Limited Run Games, a boutique distributor of limited edition physical games.

The word of more potential releases came from Limited Run on Twitter, which responded to GameSpot's story with a retweet saying it hopes to do "a few more 3DS releases." That will depend on the success of the Atooi Collection, though.

Alleged Rainbow Six Siege Copycat Gets Killed By Ubisoft Lawsuit

3 years 11 months ago

Last week Rainbow Six Siege developer Ubisoft filed a lawsuit against Google and Apple because of Area F2, a mobile free-to-play shooter developed by Alibaba and Ejoy. Area F2 has been taken down permanently, with refunds being issues to players who purchased items via microtransactions.

The notice of termination, shared by industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, stated that Area F2 would be taken offline yesterday, May 20. Although the notice makes no mention of Ubisoft and their lawsuit, the timing suggests Alibaba and Ejoy decided against trying to defend their product in court. Players who made purchases during the game's beta period can apply for refunds, either through the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or third-party retailer.

Ubisoft pointed towards Area F2's user-interface and end match score screen as particularly egregious examples of the game's copyright infringement. The French publisher also noted that it had pre-emptively warned Apple and Google of the game before it filed its lawsuit, but that neither took the game down in response.

First Assassin's Creed Game Had Side Content Added In Five Days

3 years 11 months ago

When you think of AAA game development, images of designers, programmers, and engineers creating and iterating on their titles for months and years likely come to mind. The original Assassin's Creed spawned an enormous franchise developed today by thousands of people, but its side missions were actually developed in a span of just five days.

Charles Randall--a former Ubisoft employee who worked on the first two Assassin's Creed games--shared that the original game was essentially finished when the company's CEO apparently had his son give it a try.

CoD: Warzone Update Brings Classic Battle Royale Mode To Trios

3 years 11 months ago

Following a massive update that brought some new modes to Call of Duty: Warzone, developer Infinity Ward has announced that the Classic Battle Royale mode is now playable in Trios on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The Classic Battle Royale mode, which was announced a little earlier this month, does just as the name implies. The mode removes all of Warzones add-ons--cash, contracts, loadouts, the Gulag, all of it--and opts for a stripped-down, traditional last-man-standing experience.

When Infinity Ward first introduced the mode, the studio called it a limited-time experience. It's unclear whether the mode will remain as a permanent addition to Warzone's playlist.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Teases Captain Price For Season 4

3 years 11 months ago

The official Call of Duty app sent players a mysterious message yesterday about an event happening in Call of Duty: Warzone on Thursday, May 21, possibly in connection to Season 4. The notification is cryptic but players think it could mean a major change is coming to the Warzone map, Verdansk, sometime soon. A video teaser released alongside shows a fan-favorite character could be joining. It's the most recognizable character in the series history--Captain John Price--and it was just a matter of time before he showed up.

The notification, which went out to everyone who has the app downloaded on Wednesday, mentions a "tactical alert" happening on Thursday and for players to maintain "vigilance on enemy comms for location of enemy surveillance." Some players believe this is related to the newly-opened bunkers that contain a nuclear warhead and rare items, going as far to say the warhead will be use to level part of the map. We're less than two weeks away from a new season for Warzone so this could be a teaser ahead of a new battle pass. A video teaser adds further fuel to the Price rumor fire, as his signature hat is visible.

Minecraft Gets Four-Day Dance Festival Electric Blockaloo Starring Diplo

3 years 11 months ago

Fortnite has held several virtual concerts inside its battle royale mode over the last few months as players stay sheltered at home, and Minecraft is getting in on the fun as well with a massive dance music festival. Electric Blockaloo is a four-day event that will feature some of the biggest stars of the electronic dance music genre, including Diplo and A-Trak.

Running from June 25 through June 28, the Electric Blockaloo festival will be available across both the Bedrock version of Minecraft and the older Java version, meaning you can enjoy it regardless of system. Attendance is open to all 112 million active players, and those who don't play the game will also be able to view the concert on separate livestreamed feeds from the official website.

Artists can sell tickets through their own links sent directly to fans, and there will be a 60/40 revenue split. More than 300 different artists are going to play over the course of the festival, and the play area itself includes a recreation of Dunder Mifflin's building from The Office and The Gorge venue. There will be games available to play as well as prizes and Easter eggs.
