3 years 11 months ago

Nightdive Studios continues its trend of reviving cult-classics with the return of Shadow Man, the 1999 action game originally developed for PC, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation by Acclaim. Now you can experience it again, more than 20 years later, with Shadow Man Remastered for PC.

The first gameplay trailer for the remaster, debuted at the PC Gaming Show, doesn't immediately make clear what work has been done to modernize this classic. Nightdive says that Shadow Man Remastered will run at up to 4K, and features small gameplay tweaks to the game's combat and AI to make it play a little better than the original. Take a look at the gameplay below.

Shadow Man is based on a comic series from Valiant, and features a lot of monsters that you can combat with strange magic. The atmosphere is dark and gloomy, which does mask the game's age rather well while retaining a sense of dread.

In the newly released trailer and gameplay, we see the survivor explore one of the new zones set in an icy wasteland filled with anthropomorphic scavengers and deities inspired by Norse mythology.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey Launches in 2021, Lets You Walk On Planets

3 years 11 months ago

The arrival of Elite: Dangerous - Odyssey was announced earlier this week though the PC Gaming Show has now given us more details around when this DLC will be available and what it will contain. It's not just about soaring through the stars--now, players will have the ability to traverse planets on foot with friends, and more.

Odyssey takes the game's previous focus on starships and mission-based gameplay and transposes it into an entirely different landscape. Game director Piers Jackson spoke to the DLC's focus during the PC Gaming Show, noting that one of the team's main goals here is to enable players to "take the journey from space down to the planet's surface."

This DLC will both add new content and showcase a number of redesigned aspects when it comes to the base game. Spaceflight will remain a core part of the Elite: Dangerous experience but now, you'll have the opportunity to actually set foot on the new worlds that you discover. Players will be able to discover planets and explore their surfaces, both alone and with full multiplayer functionality.

Persona 4 Golden For PC Out Now On Steam (Japanese VO Included)

3 years 11 months ago

Developer/publisher Atlus officially launched the PC version of Persona 4 Golden, the iconic JRPG in the long-running franchise. Leaks surfaced via Steam's database earlier in the week, but now it's official: the once PlayStation Vita exclusive now lives on a new platform. The Steam page for P4G just went live.

Persona 4 Golden (2012) is the revamped version of the original Persona 4 that came out PlayStation 2 back in 2008. This new PC port features graphics options to make a visually dated game look better than before--there are options for resolution, anisotropic filtering, resolution scale, shadow quality, and anti-aliasing. The game will also run at much higher frame rates.

One major feature that wasn't in the original release or P4G on Vita: Japanese voice overs. Although the English voice cast is great and brought these characters to life, this is the first time the west can experience the game in Japanese. Otherwise, the rest of P4G remains intact. But what matters most is the fact that this emotional rollercoaster of a game is accessible to a much wider audience, seeing as how the PS Vita (and PSTV) is a discontinued platform.

DayZ Creator's New Game Is Icarus

3 years 11 months ago

During the PC Gaming Show, DayZ creator Dean Hall debuted his new game, Icarus. The survival game set in space focuses on resource-gathering and building settlements, with a few key ways it aims to set itself apart.

In an interview, Hall said the team is trying to recapture the tense experience of first starting out in a survival game, when you're just beginning to find your footing. To that end, it focuses on "session-based" survival, so you'll always need to be scrapping from session to session.

To begin with your sessions dropping onto the planet will be pretty brief, but they'll get progressively longer and more difficult. Depending on how long you make your session, your goals might shift with elements like day-night cycles and resource scarcity. You'll also be able to invite your friends over to your orbital ship as a social space.

Boyfriend Dungeon Lets You Date Your Weapons Between Dungeon Crawls

3 years 11 months ago

Sometimes, you get really attached to your weapons in a game--after all, you and your particularly cool swords or guns go through a lot together as you carve a path through your enemies. Boyfriend Dungeon, shown off during The Guerrilla Collective indie games showcase, takes the concept of really liking your dungeon-crawling equipment a step further, with a dating simulator that lets you spend time with your weapons to level them up and make them more powerful.

Boyfriend Dungeon is part isometric RPG, part dating simulator. You'll delve into a dungeon, trying to get as far as you can as you hack and slash your way through enemies for money. Though you'll die along the way, you'll level up and retain experience to help you get further on your next try. But the real way you gain power is by going on dates. The weapons you find in the "dunj" transform into men, women, and non-binary people, so when you're not using them to slay various strange monsters, you can grow your romantic relationships with them. The more you develop your relationship with your weapons, the stronger they become.

You'll alternate between hanging out with your weapons around the town of Verona Beach, before delving back into the dungeon for more fighting. As you spend more time hanging out with your weapons, you'll unlock new combat abilities for use in the dungeon, and each weapon has "different upgrades to find and choices to make along the way." You'll also have to figure out each weapon's preferences for dates, gifts, and other interactions.

3 years 11 months ago

The PlayStation 5 reveal event was our first look at the next-gen console from Sony, in more ways than one. Though it did feature a short introduction from CEO Jim Ryan, and occasional brief statements from studio heads and other developers, it was mostly a trailer showcase. As Ryan said, the company wanted to let the games speak for themselves, and they did.

What followed was nearly an hour of trailer after trailer showing Sony's next-gen lineup. It included first-party exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and served as the debut for some big third-party games like Hitman 3 and Deathloop. It all ended with a trailer showing off he hardware design itself, finally answering the outstanding question of what the PlayStation 5 looks like.

You can catch up with all of the PS5 games shown, but if you just want to watch the trailers, we've compiled them all below. Many of these are in 4K, while the stream itself was limited to 1080p/30FPS due to technical considerations stemming from Sony working from home. Xur is back in Destiny 2 for the Season of Arrivals, and it seems the presence of the Pyramid ships has somehow improved his inventory. This week, Xur's Exotic offerings feature random rolls with higher stats than ever before--where his gear's stats used to total in the high 40s or low 50s, they're now averaging 60. Here's what Xur has to offer and where you can find him.

Head to Nessus to find Xur this week, hanging out in Watcher's Grave. For his weapon, Xur is offering Black Talon. Hunters can pick up the Raiden Flux chest armor; for Titans, there's the Synthoceps gauntlets; and for Warlocks, Xur has the Prometheum Spur leg armor.

Xur Location

Start by spawning in at Watcher's Grave and hop on your sparrow. Head northwest toward the center of the area, where you'll spot Calus's golden barge. Climb aboard and look for Xur hanging out on the deck.

3 years 11 months ago

With Sony finally revealing the PS5, we were treated to a plethora of new game reveals for the launch and well beyond. So which games can you expect to pick up on day one, and which are still years away?

The large majority of what Sony had to show last night also didn't have firm release dates attached, with many either stating a target release year or nothing entirely. There were a handful penned for Holiday 2020, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but many of the PS5's big exclusives, such as Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and Gran Turismo 7, seemingly won't be ready for launch. Sony has also yet to reveal the price and exact release date of the PS5, and says that news is coming later.

Following Horizon: Forbidden West Reveal, Horizon: Zero Dawn's Complete Edition Is On Sale For $10

3 years 11 months ago

Sony's PS5 event on June 11 revealed the sequel to 2017's critically acclaimed RPG Horizon: Zero Dawn will release on PlayStation 5. Horizon: Forbidden West will continue Aloy's story as she travels to new lands, encounters vicious new machines, and investigates some kind of plague threatening the post-apocalyptic world. If you never picked up Horizon: Zero Dawn back at launch--it released just days before the Nintendo Switch and Breath of the Wild, leading some to overlook it--now's a great time to snag a copy and catch up on the story.

As part of PlayStation's Days of Play sale, Horizon: Zero Dawn's Complete Edition is on sale for 50% off at multiple retailers including Amazon, down to $10 from its usual $20. This is the best version of the game to buy as it gets you the base game along with its excellent Frozen Wilds expansion, which follows Aloy to a brand-new area with a new storyline, new gear and weapons, and even deadlier machines. The Complete Edition also gets you several in-game bonus outfits and item packs as a digital artbook.

How Big Is PS5? Fans Are Trying To Find Out, And It Seems Huge

3 years 11 months ago

Sony revealed a ton of next-gen news during its PS5 reveal event, including the design of the PlayStation 5 itself. And while we finally know what the console looks like--and its design is certainly divisive, to say the least--one mystery among many is just how big the console is, both on the entertainment center and when compared to other systems out right now. Sony hasn't detailed specific dimensions yet, but gaming fans have taken to doing the legwork necessary to cull together some semblance of size for the upcoming PS5.

To say that it's "huge" would be an understatement, if the myriad unofficial dimensions floating around the internet are anything to go by. A side-by-side comparison done by game consultant Callum Underwood on Twitter, in which he compares the sizes of modern consoles by their disc drives and USB ports, shows that the PlayStation 5 is a "big big boi." It's even bigger than the PlayStation 3, which was also massive for its time.

Switch Game Ninjala's Single-Player Story Mode Revealed

3 years 11 months ago

GungHo Online Entertainment's free-to-play ninja brawler, Ninjala, is shaping up as a quirky and unorthodox approach to 8-player multiplayer gameplay. While it has similar vibes to Nintendo's Splatoon, Ninjala leans heavily into its suite of bubblegum-based ninja powers that players can use to leap, wall-run, and fly across various maps to get the upper-hand against their enemies in battle. Ninjala's more significant focus is on its online gameplay; however, the developers have plans in store for a single-player story mode and new content beyond the game's launch on June 24 for the Nintendo Switch.

In an exclusive with GameSpot for our Play For All event, developer GungHo Online Entertainment has shared the first gameplay for Ninjala's story mode add-on for the free-to-play game, along with a trailer revealing what's to come in updates for the game in season 1. Ninjala's story mode will be a premium add-on for the free-to-play game. As of right now, the price for the single-player content hasn't been set.

With an evolving story told through comic book-style panels, you'll dive into standalone missions that have you use your ninja-gum powers to explore levels and battles foes. Playing the story mode will also earn you additional rewards, which can be used to customize and upgrade your characters for online battles. GungHo Online offered the first glimpses of Ninjala's narrative in the first episode of an animated short series earlier this year. The developers plan on keeping the plot progressing in the future. GungHo Online CEO and president Kazuki Morishita stated that the game's story and narrative would expand after its launch.

Star Wars: Squadrons Leaks On Xbox Site, Revealing The Unannounced Game

3 years 11 months ago

The official Xbox website has leaked Star Wars: Squadrons, an as-of-yet unannounced game likely scheduled for reveal at EA's postponed Play event. The banner features a pre-order button, but the store page for the title is currently not live.

Earlier this year another Star Wars game, titled Project Maverick, leaked on PSN. It was reportedly the same game that had been mentioned in a report by Kotaku in February, who stated that EA Motive was working on a "smaller, more unusual" Star Wars project.

Judging by the leaked image, Squadrons will likely focus on aerial space combat, given that both Rebel and TIE fighter pilots are featured prominently. The last Star Wars game to focus solely on space combat was Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, although EA's Star Wars Battlefront series has featured multiplayer modes with just aerial dogfights.
