Among Us players can unlock a special Twitch logo pet cosmetic if they link their Twitch account to the game by December 18. Among Us pets usually have to be purchased, but this one is the first that InnerSloth is giving out for free.

You'll need to open up Among Us, click the settings icon, and then choose the "Data" tab in order to link your Twitch account. Once you click that you'll need to log into your Twitch profile to officially link the two accounts. Once you're logged in, click authorize to allow Twitch Among Us drops. You'll need to then watch 30 minutes of the Among Us Twitch Rivals events in order to unlock the pet.

There are events you can watch on December 11, 14, and 18. The full schedule can be found right here. This is only possible on the PC version of Among Us, but an update for mobile players should let them link their Twitch accounts soon.

GameSpot After Dark 71: Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite Delay, And More

3 years 5 months ago

This week's episode of GameSpot After Dark sees the return of Jake, which means there's a crackdown on Yakuza chat. Instead, however, we get a whole load of Cyberpunk 2077 talk, which makes perfect sense considering it's the biggest game of the year and it's out now.

Joining Jake are Kallie, Lucy, and Tamoor, all of who have played the game to different extents. Jake and Kallie have played the most, the former working on video coverage before the official release and the latter being the reviewer. Lucy and Tamoor, meanwhile, have sunk a few hours into the game, having started it more recently. That means you'll get a nice range of experiences.

On top of the Cyberpunk 2077 discussion there's also some analysis of the recent Halo Infinite delay, what it means, and how the crew feels about it.

New Hyper Scape Update Adds Crossplay, Full Patch Notes Detailed

3 years 5 months ago

Ubisoft has released a new patch for Hyper Scape on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S that introduces crossplay, as well as various gameplay adjustments and quality-of-life improvements. The full patch notes for Update 2.5 are outlined below.

Update 2.5's headlining feature is the addition of crossplay, which is undergoing a soft launch for the time being. Full crossplay between consoles has been enabled, meaning PlayStation and Xbox players can jump into matches together. The situation is slightly different for PC users, who can still play with console players but will be matched into the PC queue instead. This means PC users who have a team full of other console players will be playing with other PC players for now. There's no word on when crossplay leaves this sort of early access period.

Along with crossplay comes various adjustments for Hyper Scapes's game modes. Team Deathmatch has had its win conditions altered to lengthen matches, while Arcadium is receiving Navigation Pick-Up items. Team Deathmatch will see some improvements as well, including a more polished respawn phase, fixed scoreboard issues, and random map support.

Fortnite's NPCs Are Interesting And Useless Punching Bags

3 years 5 months ago

The beginning of Fortnite's latest season saw 40 non-playable characters scattered around the map for players to find. Every NPC can give players quests and items, and some can even join your team and help you fight. This is a big change for the battle royale--it's something Epic Games has been working towards for some time.

Computer-controlled characters--including bot players, Marvel heroes, recruitable henchmen, and more--have continuously been added to the game over the past couple of years. Epic has used these characters to help diversify the experience players have from match to match. The studio is leaning heavily into using these characters, but players want more from them.

One of Season 5's NPCs

Epic Games has inserted some sort of computer-controlled character into many of Fortnite's seasons, especially after the launch of Chapter 2. They've roamed the map randomly looking for players to kill as the Marauders, acted as security for Midas and crew in Season 2, and most recently supported Dr. Doom and Iron Man (who are also AI-controlled) at their respective named locations during Season 4. Sometimes they just hang around for no reason.

Best Lifestyle/Live Service Games Of 2020

3 years 5 months ago

Some of the most popular games today exist as evolving platforms. Using the games-as-a-service model, developers can update, expand upon, and improve experiences over time. The "live service" nature of such games allow them to fit the mold of a "lifestyle" game, with regular updates and new features helping to keep things fresh.

GameSpot's Best Lifestyle/Live Service category celebrates five games that experienced dramatic and meaningful changes in 2020. In this end-of-year roundup we'll discuss and highlight what made these great experiences even better than before.

Our criteria was based on what made these games stand out and how they went above and beyond throughout the calendar year, not necessarily when they released. As you'll see immediately below, only two of our five selections for 2020 actually released this year.

3 years 5 months ago

Lord Saladin has returned to the Tower in Destiny 2 this week, bringing the first Iron Banner event of the Season of the Hunt and the Beyond Light expansion. As always, that gives you a great excuse to visit Xur, everyone's favorite snake-faced Exotics vendor, while he's in the solar system for the weekend. Head to The Tower, to the Hangar area, to find Xur this week. For his weapon, Xur is offering Trinity Ghoul. Hunters can pick up the Gwisin Vest chest armor; for Titans, there's the Armamentarium chest armor; and for Warlocks, Xur has the Vesper of Radius chest armor.

Xur Location

Make your way to the left side of the Tower when you spawn in, then look for Xur at the north end of the Hangar.

Spawn in at the Tower transmat zone and head to the left, down the stairs, toward the Hangar. When you reach the Hangar area, hang a left and walk past the faction areas, including Dead Orbit, to find a staircase up to a catwalk. Xur is at the top of the stairs, looking out over the edge of the area at the Last City below.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Is Already The US's Best-Selling Game Of 2020

3 years 5 months ago

In less than a month on the market, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has already outsold every other game during 2020 in the United States. That's according to the NPD Group, which has released its monthly report for November and confirmed the ongoing dominance of CoD.

This marks the 13th year in a row where a new Call of Duty game was the top-selling game in its launch month, according to NPD. It's news that has long since ceased being a surprise. The launch of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S didn't impact this trend, with Cold War coming out as the top-selling game on PlayStation and Xbox platforms for both November and the year overall. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Animal Crossing: New Horizons stand as the second and third top-selling games for the year through November.

Coming in at the #2 spot on NPD's list of best-selling games in November was Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which is now the year's #7 best-selling game. It was a particularly big launch for Valhalla--which, like Cold War, released on next-gen platforms alongside current-gen ones and PC--attracting higher sales in its launch month than any AC game dating back to 2012's Assassin's Creed III.

PS5 Had The Biggest Launch Month In US History

3 years 5 months ago

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S console sales helped set a new record for video game hardware sales according to industry-tracking firm The NPD Group. Most notably, Sony's PS5 achieved the highest launch month sales of a console in US history, topping the previous record help by PS4.

"Consumers spent a November record $1.4 billion on new video game hardware, an increase of 58% when versus a year ago," NPD analyst Mat Piscatella explained. "Growth was driven by the launches of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. Year-to-date hardware spending reached $4 billion, 34% higher than a year ago."

The top-selling next-gen console of the month was the PS5, although both systems would likely have sold even more units if supply had been able to meet demand. The PS5 achieved the highest launch month for both unit and dollar sales for a video game hardware platform in US history, shattering the November 2013 record that had been held by the PS4.

Cyberpunk 2077's Performance On Base PS4 Is "Unacceptable" In Digital Foundry Analysis

3 years 5 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 has finally launched this week, but if you're planning to play CD Projekt Red's latest game on older consoles then you could be in for a shock. Digital Foundry has examined how Cyberpunk 2077's first three hours perform on the base model PS4 and the PS4 Pro after patch 1.02 has been installed, and has detailed a compromised experience on those platforms.

On the base PS4, game performance "mostly" reaches a resolution of 720p, but the 30fps performance target is prone to dropping to 15fps during more intense sequences. "There's just so much less detail," Digital Foundry's John Linneman noted of Night City's car and NPC count. This results in Cyberpunk 2077 having frequent slowdowns, stuttering, and a messy visual presentation according to Digital Foundry's analysis.

Elden Ring Was A No-Show At The Game Awards, But Fans Still Got It Some Airtime

3 years 5 months ago

Elden Ring, the ambitious project partnering Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, has been radio silent for well over a year, with that record looking set to continue into 2021. While From Software may not be ready to show us anything official from the game yet, fans still made sure that Elden Ring got a mention on the Game Awards stage after winning the award for the most anticipated game.

As a category voted on by fans, Elden Ring was up against upcoming titles including the God Of War sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, Halo Infinite, Resident Evil Village, and the Breath of the Wild sequel for the most anticipated game. Game Awards host Geoff Keighley seemed to anticipate that many fans were waiting on Elden Ring news from the event, adding "there, I said it," after reading out the name of the game.

Unfortunately, this little tidbit was all we saw of Elden Ring from The Game Awards, which is the last big gaming event of the year. The last time anything was seen of From Software's upcoming game was when it was announced at E3 last year.

New Mass Effect Debuts At Game Awards

3 years 5 months ago

The Game Awards 2020 ended with one more announcement just before the final award, and it was a big one. The show finished with a teaser trailer for the next Mass Effect.

The teaser was vague, consisting mostly of overviews of planets and galaxies against radio chatter that's tough to make out, but definitely includes some key Mass Effect tidbits, including the sound of a Reaper attack ship. It sounds as if it's going through the history of human space travel, including real-life history. We had only one detailed view of a person, a being on a seemingly isolated area of a planet. It ended with the promise that "Mass Effect Will Continue," though it did not give a title or release details.

Fans have speculated that the person picking up the N7 armor fragment in the trailer is none other than Liara T'Soni, one of the original Mass Effect party members and a popular character in her own right. She's accompanied by a few characters in the background, who are hard to make out but appear to be a Salarian, a Krogan, and a Drell.

Skyrim, Among Us, Yakuza 3-6, And More Coming To Xbox Game Pass

3 years 5 months ago

New games are being added to Xbox Game Pass's library all the time and The Game Awards brought news on several more, including some big-name titles. Following the event, Microsoft confirmed even more games, a number of which will be available in the next week.

The initial list is headlined by Bethesda's enduringly popular RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which is heading to the catalog on December 15. Ruined King: A League Of Legends Story Has Been Delayed, But A New Trailer Has Debuted

3 years 5 months ago

The game, a single-player roleplaying title, will feature many League of Legends characters and lore. In an announcement on Twitter, the publisher said that the game needs to be delayed for the same reason many games have been delayed lately--2020 has been hard.

"This year has presented a number of challenges for all of us that have been outside our control," the announcement reads. Because of this, the game will not meet its "early 2021" release goal, and will arrive later next year.

Just Cause Mobile Announced, And It'll Include Multiplayer Carnage

Square Enix has announced and debuted a trailer for Just Cause Mobile during The Game Awards 2020, and it's a free-to-play spin-off that will bring multiplayer to the series for the first time. Players will be able to team up with friends in co-op or fight against them in competitive modes.

The game, which is coming to both iOS and Android, won't have you playing as series stalwart Rico. Instead, the campaign casts you as a member of the Firebrand program, taking down the Darkwater corporation across multiple open-world environments. Expect a lot of explosions and grappling hooks.

The competitive multiplayer mode is called "Triple Threat," and it sets three teams of 10 players against each other. It's a capture-the-base-style multiplayer experience where you'll need to secure bases across a map while taking out enemies. There will be a clan system for players who want to team up long-term, and you'll be able to pilot numerous vehicles in this mode, too.

Scarlet Nexus Gets New Trailer At The Game Awards

3 years 5 months ago

During The Game Awards 2020, a new trailer for Scarlet Nexus was revealed. The trailer showcases Scarlet Nexus' story and characters while also providing snippets of the action game's gameplay.

Coming in Summer 2021, Scarlet Nexus sees you play as a new recruit in an organization charged with protecting the world from supernatural monsters. You're able to move objects with your mind as well as borrow the powers of your teammates to accentuate your abilities and attacks.

This translates into a gameplay experience that looks a lot like The Force Unleashed. You primarily bat enemies around with your sword, but you can rip pieces of the environment out of the ground and throw them at enemies, too. Time your attacks right and you can pull off more powerful combos, like splitting a heavy object into two pieces and pancaking an enemy between them.

Among Us Shows Off New Airship Map At The Game Awards

As promised by Geoff Keighley ahead of the show, a new Among Us map was shown off during The Game Awards 2020. The 2018 mobile and PC game has had a huge year in 2020, and this new map shows that the game doesn't intend to slow down anytime soon.

Ghosts 'N Goblins: Resurrection Coming Next February

3 years 5 months ago

During The Game Awards 2020, Capcom showed off a revival of the classic Ghosts 'n Goblins, called Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection. It's coming to Nintendo Switch next year.

A brief gameplay trailer showed a paper cutout aesthetic with some very classic (read: hard as hell) gameplay. Once again, Arthur takes damage by stripping down to his skivvies and then turning into a pile of bones.

Ghosts 'n Goblins: Resurrection is coming February 25, 2021. That date puts it near Capcom Arcade Stadium, a compilation of classic arcade games also coming in February.

Xbox Attempts To Temper Expectations Ahead Of Game Awards Reveals

3 years 5 months ago

With the Game Awards taking place today, December 10, the anticipation for big and exciting surprises is at its peak. Microsoft has been teasing some Xbox announcements taking place at the show but has begun tempering expectations based on reactions.

Aaron Greenberg, general manager of Xbox marketing, has warned fans that many of their predictions about what could be announced have far exceeded reality. Greenberg has maintained that the announcements are exciting, but for everyone to just think a bit smaller.

Microsoft used the Game Awards last year to announce the Xbox Series X, which was easily the biggest surprise of the show. It's unlikely that anything the company has planned for today could top that, especially with Halo Infinite confirmed to be skipping the event. Xbox's shooter exclusive recently got a confirmed Fall 2021 release window along with a minor update on progress since the delay earlier this year.

Get Cyberpunk 2077 Performance Improvements With Nvidia's Latest Driver

3 years 5 months ago

Hot on the heels of the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, Nvidia has released its latest Game Ready Driver for its GeForce GPUs to help give you the best performance possible in 2020's most-anticipated release.

Although Cyberpunk 2077 has some technical issues, not all of which have been purged by the game's day one patch, the latest driver from Nvidia should help smooth things over. In addition to optimized driver settings, the update also adds Cyberpunk 2077 to GeForce Experience, giving you access to one-click optimizations based on your preferred resolution and installed hardware.

The update also improves DLSS support within the game, with Nvidia claiming at least 60% better performance with DLSS turned on. DLSS uses AI to upscale the game from a lower resolution with great results and should definitely be used if you're planning to make us of Cyberpunk's extensive ray tracing settings.

A US Senator Wants To Make Streaming Copyrighted Material A Felony

3 years 5 months ago

North Carolina Republican Senator Thom Tillis is trying to pass legislation that would make streaming of copyrighted material a felony, rather than a misdemeanor, alongside a major government funding bill. The funding bill is considered a "must-pass" piece of legislation--the government will shut down if it doesn't get approved.

The legislation would turn unauthorized commercial streaming of copyrighted material, which has been a major issue on platforms like Twitch recently, into a felony offense that could come with prison time. Twitch streamers have been getting waves of copyright strikes throughout 2020. Some streamers have had to go back and delete a number of their clips if they included any copyright-protected music.

Twitch apologized for its poor response to the wave of DMCA takedowns last month, but reiterated that the best defense to copyright strikes is to not stream copyrighted material.
