Get A $10 Coupon Simply By Playing Hyper Scape (Which Is Free To Play)

3 years 5 months ago

Hyper Scape hasn't exactly taken the world by storm since launching in August. Ubisoft's free-to-play battle royale has fast-paced gameplay and an interesting world, but it joined a crowded genre and has largely failed to break through. That said, if you haven't given it a go, now's an excellent time to check out Hyper Scape. Ubisoft is running a promotion right now that gets you free money to spend on the Ubisoft Store.

If you play Hyper Scape from now until December 17, you'll be eligible to receive a $10 off coupon for your next purchase at the Ubisoft Store. Though Hyper Scape is also available on consoles, this promotion only applies to the PC version. So you'll have to download the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher to take advantage of this offer. Both new and existing players can get the coupon.

After playing the game, you'll have to head over to Ubisoft's site, sign in to your account, and hit the "Request My Coupon Code" button. Ubisoft says codes will be delivered within 48 hours.

3 years 5 months ago

2020 has been a real root canal of a year and everyone knows it. We're only weeks away from symbolically turning the page on this poorly-written chapter that somehow contains both too much and too little plot. To mark the occasion, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced it will say goodbye to the year with a charity streaming event.

The event is called "Say Goodbye to 2020 For Good" and will be streamed across Twitch and YouTube. It begins on December 14 and will run through December 18.

A $100K charity Fortnite tournament will be the main event of the festivities, with various streaming personalities taking part. PS5 Is Outselling The Xbox Series X/S Almost Two-To-One On The Resale Market

3 years 5 months ago

Since launching back in November, the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S have sold out of stock almost immediately through online and brick-and-mortar stores. Both consoles can still be purchased, provided that you're willing to buy them through private sellers and pay a higher price.

Reseller website StockX has seen demand for Sony's new console climb after launch, with a global demand that has resulted in it outselling Microsoft's Xbox Series X/S consoles at a rate of nearly two-to-one.

The average price for a $500 PS5 is $900 through the website, while the $500 Xbox Series X usually sells for around $730. According to StockX, it has overseen the sale of "more than 60,000 PlayStation and Xbox consoles globally," as of December 8.

Cyberpunk 2077 Attracted Over 8 Million Preorders

3 years 5 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 has only been out for a matter of hours at this point. Even if you're yet to make it out of the robust character creator, developer CD Projekt Red has wasted little time in sharing some early sales figures for the highly anticipated RPG.

The company revealed on its Twitter account that Cyberpunk 2077 managed to attract over eight million preorders in the lead up its release. Even factoring in potential cancellations, those are incredibly impressive numbers, with 59% of those sales being for the PC version of the game. Appropriately enough, the RPG has also done very well digitally, as 74% of preorders were sold on Steam, GOG, and the PlayStation and Microsoft stores.

Cyberpunk 2077's Development Was Made Far Tougher By Work-From-Home Setup

3 years 5 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 finally released today after numerous delays, with its original launch date set for back in April. COVID-19 has affected nearly every facet of game development this year as studios transitioned to a work-from-home setup. For CD Projekt Red, that seems to have been exceptionally true, as the Cyberpunk 2077 team had to spend far longer on routine tasks compared to when it operated in an office.

Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, co-CEO Adam Kiciński said that doing something like placing a character or object into the game could take hours because of the reduced communication between team members--it would take minutes when they were sitting next to each other.

Kiciński also mentioned that it was "painful" for the game's developers to have to crunch--the practice of working extremely long hours for an extended period of time as a game approaches releases-- though he hoped players would be understanding after seeing the final product.

BioShock 4 Job Listings Suggest It May Be An RPG Sandbox

3 years 5 months ago

A new set of job listings from BioShock 4 developer Cloud Chamber Games--as spotted by Maruno NL3 on Twitter--has revealed that the next chapter in the series could be a big departure from previous games.

The developer is searching for a systems designer that specializes in "ambitious, narratively-driven project full of character and personality" and other developers who can flesh out the game's dialogue systems.

Another listing for an applicant who would be responsible for "interactive world systems and non-AI systemic ecology" and "player growth systems" lists experience in RPG games as a requirement for the game that could be BioShock 4, which the studio describes as an "emergent sandbox world" that contains a "meaningful AI urban crowd system."

The Biggest Switch Games To Play In 2021 And Beyond

3 years 5 months ago

Now that 2020 is largely behind us, it's time to look ahead at what the future holds for each of the game industry's biggest platforms. While Sony and Microsoft both closed out the year by ushering in next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the Nintendo Switch is quickly approaching its fourth birthday, and it has quite a few big-name titles lined up for the new year and beyond.

Given how secretive Nintendo traditionally is, often announcing games only a few months before they hit the market, we've likely only gotten a small glimpse at Switch's release calendar for the new year, but there are some exciting first- and third-party exclusives on the way. The first half of 2021 will see the release of Bravely Default II and Monster Hunter Rise, which will no doubt help sustain the system's sales momentum going into the new year, while marquee blockbusters like Metroid Prime 4 and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 are slated to follow at some point in the future.

And that's to say nothing about any potential hardware revisions coming next year. While Nintendo hasn't announced any such plans, reports continue to circulate that the company will release a new Switch model in 2021. Whether or not that will prove true remains to be seen, but at the very least, we can take a look at all the biggest games that are coming to Switch in 2021 and beyond.

Cyberpunk 2077 Adds Seizure Warning To Launch Screen

3 years 5 months ago

It recently came to light that Cyberpunk 2077 has some sections that could trigger epileptic seizures, and now developer CD Projekt Red has followed through on a promise to add a warning to the game about this. Reporter Elise Favis wrote on Twitter that the game now boots up with a warning regarding a risk of seizures.

The text states that Cyberpunk 2077 features a "variety of visual effects," some of which can provoke seizures or a loss of consciousness for some people. "If you or someone in your family has ever displayed symptoms of epilepsy in the presence of flashing lights, please consult your physician before playing CYberpunk 2077," reads the message. "If you or someone you know experiences any of the above symptoms while playing, stop and seek medical attention immediately."

Cyberpunk 2077 Guide - Which Life Path Is Right For You?

3 years 5 months ago

When you start a new game in Cyberpunk 2077, you're asked to pick one of three life paths: Street Kid, Corporate, and Nomad. The path you choose will have some effect on the stories you see, the characters you meet, and the conversations you might have. While your life path will inform your V's backstory, it won't drastically change the game--but there are a few key elements that the choice will alter, including the prologue and your path into Night City.

Here's what you need to know about the three Cyberpunk 2077 life paths and how they'll change your Night City experience. It's worth noting that, after the prologue section, all three paths merge together with the game's main story to take you on a similar journey. Your life path will change some of the details, however, and it's important if you want to immerse yourself in V's experience. Your life path choice will bring you some specific side quests related to your prologue.

We've also got some essential tips for Night City newcomers, a guide to help you make money in Cyberpunk 2077, a rundown of how romances work in the game, and our full Cyberpunk 2077 review--so check those out too.

Destiny 2 F2P PC Players Will Now Need SMS Verification For Some Activities

3 years 5 months ago

PC players of Destiny 2 who have stuck with the game's free-to-play version following the launch of Beyond Light might want to keep their phone on hand while playing from now on. A new security measure has been added to the game to prevent cheating as of Update 3.0.1, adding SMS verification to certain activities.

As Bungie explains in a help article, this applies only to "certain pinnacle level activities," and players who have purchased a Destiny 2 expansion do not need to do this. Trials of Osiris, competitive Crucible matches, and the Iron Banner will be affected--all PvP activities.

Here are the steps necessary to activate and use SMS verification from Destiny 2 on PC:

  1. Launch into an SMS restricted activity when playing on PC, and receive a pop-up requesting SMS verification
  2. Click the "Verify Now" button. This will redirect players to Bungie.net
  3. Sign into their Bungie.net profile
  4. Enter their phone number in the space provided and request a verification code
  5. Enter the verification code sent to their phone number

This might be a minor hassle, but hopefully it will have an impact on cheating and account theft on PC. Players with the expansions can also choose to opt-in for SMS verification, if they would like to do so.

If you're a console Destiny 2 player who has managed to get their hands on a PS5 or Xbox Series X version, make sure you check the game out after this latest update--it's a major upgrade.

Rocket League Season 2 Now Live, Full Patch Notes Listed

3 years 5 months ago

Rocket League Season 2 is now live and it brings a host of changes to the game about supersonic acrobatic rocket-powered battle-cars. Season 2 adds a new battle car and arena, as well as player anthems.

The new battle car is the R3MX, unlocked in the first level of the Rocket Pass. The R3MX possesses the Hybrid hitbox, so it strikes the ball similarly to battle cars like the Venom and X-Devil. Meanwhile the new arena, Neon Fields, is a colorful field that reacts to the music being played during the match.

Neon Fields interacts with Rocket League Radio and each individual player's player anthem, reacting to songs as they play.

Really, music is the overall theme of Season 2. For example, several new goal explosions, battle car decals, wheels, and boosts in the Rocket Pass all relate to music. This theme most comes through in the brand-new player anthems. You can now assign yourself a player anthem, a song that will play when you score a goal, get an epic save, or earn MVP for a match.

Google Trends For 2020 Reveal That PS5 Was Harder To Find Than Toilet Paper

3 years 5 months ago

Google has released its Google Trends for the year, and looking over the stats for searches in the US, as well as the global searches, there's some interesting insights into the entertainment people wanted to know more about in 2020.

The most searched term in the US was "election results;" globally, it was "coronavirus," for reasons that should be obvious. Tom Hanks was the most searched-for actor, in the US and globally, likely because he was the first major celebrity to contract COVID-19.

The impact of COVID-19 can also be seen in searches that start with "Where To Buy," with "toilet paper" ranking high. But in the US, "Where to buy PS5" was the top search, ahead of toilet paper in second. Of course, in a normal year it would not be that surprising that the new PlayStation was in rarer supply than toilet paper, and anyone seeing this headline after time traveling here from 2019 would be confused and worried. But 2020 was not a normal year.

How To Connect Bluetooth Headphones To The PS5

3 years 5 months ago

With the reveal of Apple's brand new--and very expensive--headphones, the AirPods Max, you may be wondering if they'd make a good set for your PS5. Unfortunately, Sony's consoles don't let you connect Bluetooth audio devices directly. This is frustrating considering the large number of people who want to use their favorite pair of headphones with their brand-spankin' new console, but thankfully, there is a workaround. If you've ever wanted to pass on a gaming headset in favor of Bluetooth headphones, this guide is for you.

How to connect Bluetooth headphones or AirPods to the PS5

First, you'll need a pair of Bluetooth headphones, such as the AirPods Max or our personal favorite, the Creative SXFI Air. Any will work, so as long as you love them, you're good to go. Secondly, you'll need a Bluetooth adapter, either USB-C or the more common USB-A. With the PS5, there's only one USB-C port, so if you're using that for something like an external SSD or hard drive, then you'll want to snag a USB-A adapter. Thankfully, some USB-C adapters like the Creative BT-W3 Bluetooth dongle come with USB-A converters.

Watch Dogs Legion Update 2.40 Fixes Xbox Save Issue And Adds New Permadeath Option

3 years 5 months ago

Watch Dogs: Legion will receive Title Update 2.40 on December 10, and it'll come with numerous fixes and a few additions. The big change, for Xbox owners, is a fix coming for a save issue. Some players on Xbox Series X/S have had issues getting their games to save, which the patch will address.

Another major change coming for all systems is the option to "retire" Prestige Operatives, meaning that you can, essentially, make them work under permadeath rules. This was previously only possible in permadeath playthroughs, but now it sounds like you'll be able to activate this option in any playthrough.

Prestige Operatives are offered as paid DLC, so it might be important to some players to be able to protect them for an entire run to get their money's worth. If you opt to let them "retire", though, they'll join your team again immediately if you start a new game. This will give these unique characters some higher stakes, and possibly prevent players from relying on them too heavily.

Why EA Canceled The Lord Of The Rings: The White Council

3 years 5 months ago

Years ago, EA Redwood Shores was working on a Lord of the Rings game called The Lord of the Rings: The White Council, and it had bold ambitions as an open-world RPG. However, EA announced in 2007 that it had put the game on hiatus, and it was effectively canceled.

But why? Developers who worked on it spoke to The Gamer about the project, and one of the reasons was that EA simply didn't want to take on another big-budget project after releasing The Godfather in 2006.

"EA was just coming off shipping The Godfather, which was a big and really expensive project that had gone way over budget and schedule," executive producer Steve Gray said. "I just think there wasn't appetite for another big over the top project."

PS5's Best-Selling PSN Games In November 2020 Revealed

3 years 5 months ago

Sony released the list of November 2020's top-selling PS5 and PS4 games for the US/Canada region, and the results are unsurprising. The PS5 launched in November to great fanfare, and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was one of Sony's next-generation console's key launch titles. It proved to be a draw and landed at number one on the top-downloaded PS5 games for US/Canada.

Other big titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Demon's Souls, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and NBA 2K21 Next Generation filled in the top ranks of the best-selling PS5 games. See the end of the article for a comprehensive list, as well as top-downloaded PS4 and free-to-play games. Check out PlayStation's Blog for the top-downloaded PSVR games and DLC/expansions.

On the PS4 side, many of the same titles made the top-downloaded list. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War landed at number one instead of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Grand Theft Auto V, a game launched in 2013, is still doing exceptionally well and was the seventh most downloaded game on the PS4.

Remedy's Control Surpasses An Impressive Sales Milestone

3 years 5 months ago

15 months after launch, developer Remedy Entertainment's critically acclaimed third-person action-adventure game Control has sold more than two million copies.

This is according to the studio's communications director Thomas Puha, who tweeted the sales figure alongside an announcement that November was the game's best-selling month, a statement made during Remedy's recent investor event. Other bits of information out of the event include confirmation from creative director Sam Lake that the next big Remedy game takes place in the Remedy Connected Universe and that there is "high-profile interested" in Control-related media content.

The Ultimate Edition of Control launched in September 2020, with those on PlayStation and Xbox who own that edition being able to upgrade to the next-gen version of the game at no charge. That PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S version of Control doesn't come out until 2021. Publisher 505 Games caught a lot of heat in August 2020 for its lackluster explanation as to why Control owners must purchase the Ultimate Edition to get the free next-gen upgrade.

Destiny 2's PS5/Xbox Series X Update Is A Revelation

3 years 5 months ago

The Destiny franchise started out as a console-exclusive series, but since Destiny 2's release on PC in 2017, there's been no question about where the best place to play is. PC might still reign supreme if you have high-end hardware, but with the next-gen update now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it's not such a no-brainer anymore.

To put it simply, the new update is revelatory for console players. Based on the several hours I've spent with the new Xbox Series X-enhanced version so far, it's finally possible to enjoy the benefits formerly reserved for PC, and the results are stark.

I played Destiny 2 on Xbox One and One X for years, ignoring the PC version until cross-save support finally allowed me to finally bring my progress with me. The benefits were massive in two specific areas: the increase in frame rate (Destiny 2 on consoles has, until now, been locked to 30fps) and the reduction in load times (which were agonizingly long). The contrast in performance between a decent PC and Xbox One was so extreme that, after playing for hours on PC and then jumping back to Xbox, I would be convinced something was actually broken and that my system needed to be restarted or a game update was needed. This happened multiple times, with each instance evoking a no, I know it ultimately wasn't broken last time, but something is clearly off this time. And those long waits to move from location to location led to more doomscrolling than my brain could handle, something there just isn't time for when playing on PC.

Twitch Rule Changes Take Aim At Hate Speech, Sexual Harassment

3 years 5 months ago

Streaming platform Twitch has issued a significant update to its harassment and hateful conduct policies, adding new rules regarding hate speech and sexual harassment. The changes, on the whole, seem aimed at stamping out conduct that is not necessarily malicious, but that may have a negative impact on streamers, other viewers, or the community as a whole.

More specifically, the policy changes include bans on claiming that a victim of a violent tragedy is lying, encouraging DDoS attacks, certain hateful emoji, and the Confederate flag. The policy changes also bar unwelcome comments on someone's physical appearance or making sexual/lewd comments. The policy notes that this change does not include an exemption for public figures.

"Words and actions have meaning and impact, even if your intent is not meant to be hurtful or cause harm," Twitch wrote in a blog post. "And even if the target of your behavior or comments isn't bothered by them, others in the community may nevertheless feel impacted by it. Under the new policy, our Safety team will look at the content of statements or actions in order to determine whether a behavior is abusive and violates our guidelines, rather than relying solely on perceived intent."

Some Xbox Users Are Playing Cyberpunk 2077 Early

3 years 5 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 is officially upon us, unlocking at midnight local time on December 10 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Despite the imminent release, though, some Xbox players are manipulating their consoles to play the game early.

According to Video Games Chronicle reporter Andy Robinson, Xbox owners who switch their console's region to New Zealand can unlock Cyberpunk 2077 hours before the game actually comes out. This is because New Zealand is more than 10 hours ahead of most regions.

Developer CD Projekt Red already announced the release times for Cyberpunk 2077 and let users preload the game early, so knowing that the game can be unlocked by manipulating the console is unsurprising. A handful of users from both Reddit and Twitter have reported the trick to work on Xbox consoles. But the same sort of trick can't be performed on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5; the location data on Sony's consoles is predetermined by the user's account.

Rockstar showcased GTA Online's upcoming heist in a brand-new trailer today. The Cayo Perico Heist, which includes a new island location, will hit the massive online playground on December 15.

The Cayo Perico Heist is GTA Online's first solo heist, although it can be played with a group as well. Players won't have to rely on random teammates if they don't have friends to play with. The heist will be balanced based on how many players are in a squad.

"Cayo Perico is not only the nerve center of El Rubio’s drug empire, but the island also plays host to his other great love: marathon dance parties on golden beaches," reads a post on Rockstar's official site. "Where everyone from jetsetters and heiresses to legendary music producegrs gather to rave until the sun comes up."

Destiny 2 Hawkmoon Guide: How To Get The Exotic Hand Cannon

3 years 5 months ago

One of the most popular Exotic hand cannons from the original Destiny has made its return this week in Destiny 2: Beyond Light. As part of the Season of the Hunt storyline, players now have a chance to claim the legendary weapon in a brand-new quest that eventually culminates with the fabled gun being reforged.

Unlike the original weapon, this version of Hawkmoon has a completely different approach to dealing damage. Consecutive precision hits will activate the Paracausal Shot perk which adds extra damage to the final bullet in the chamber. Seven stacks of Paracausal Shot loaded into a single bullet has the potential to deal major damage to bosses if you can land a headshot, and in the Crucible that buff can instantly eliminate a rival Guardian with a single shot.

The first drop of Hawkmoon will also include the Transformative perk, which allows it to be added to the Exotic weapon loot pool and Xur's inventory. Every Hawkmoon acquired from those sources will replace Transformative with a normal and random weapon perk instead.

Microsoft Outlines xCloud Plans For iOS, PC

3 years 5 months ago

Xbox had a big year, with the combined launch of Xbox Series X|S and xCloud streaming. With 2020 coming to a close, the company has outlined some of its plans for the coming year, including that same streaming tech coming to more devices.

In a post on the Xbox blog, Microsoft says that its cloud gaming will expand to windows PCs and iOS devices. It states that the iOS functionality is coming through a mobile browser. We had previously heard reports that Microsoft would introduce cloud streaming on iOS devices this way, as Apple's restrictions make it difficult to create a dedicated streaming app.

The blog also mentions that the cloud gaming program will expand to more markets in 2021, including Australia, Brazil, Japan, and Mexico.

Red Dead Online's Latest Weekly Update Adds A New Legendary Bounty

3 years 5 months ago

This week's Red Dead Online update, the now standalone online component of Red Dead Redemption 2, includes a new Legendary Bounty for those who own the newly available Prestigious Bounty Hunter licence. There are also new bonuses and benefits, and a number of new discounts.

Carmela "La Muñeca" Montez, the recently installed head of the Dos Lobos gang, is this week's Legendary bounty target. Montez and her posse have claimed responsibility for a string of gruesome highway robberies, with their hideout situated in West Elizabeth at the Hanging Dog Ranch. Those with the Prestigious Bounty Hunter licence can pick up Montez's wanted poster at any sheriff's office to begin the pursuit. Revisiting the bounty board again after a brief period will give you the option to replay the mission at a higher difficulty.

All bounties are currently paying out 50% extra, including the new three-part Infamous Bounties. All Bounty Hunters can also get 30% off a horse of their choosing this week, while those who take down Montez and complete the Legendary Bounty will get an additional 30% off a weapon of their choice.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Adds A New Ray Tracing Performance Mode

3 years 5 months ago

Developer Insomniac Games has released a new update for Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5. The latest patch adds a new performance mode that gives players the option to play the web-swinging adventure at 60 frames per second with ray tracing enabled.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales initially launched with two different graphics modes: performance and quality. The former let you play the game at 60 frames per second without ray tracing, while the latter added ray tracing but restricted the frame rate to 30 frames per second. With this latest update, Insomniac has added a third graphics mode: performance RT.

The game describes this as "an alternate version of the 60 frames per second 'Performance Mode.'" It adds ray tracing by adjusting the scene resolution, reflection quality, and pedestrian density. More options are always better, and this gives you the best of both worlds, even if you lose some of the image quality in the process.
