CD Projekt Could Face Investor Lawsuits Over Cyberpunk 2077

3 years 4 months ago

CD Projekt could soon be facing yet another Cyberpunk 2077 problem, arguably bigger than having to offer refunds to upset players: a class-action lawsuit. It isn't from other players, either, but potentially from investors who felt they were misled about the game's quality prior to release.

According to VGC, multiple law firms, as well as a CD Projekt investor, are looking into a class-action suit related to potential misrepresentation by CD Projekt. The company could be accused of breaking an SEC rule that makes it unlawful to operate "as a fraud or a deceit upon any person" during security transactions.

In other words, this potential lawsuit would see investors taking aim at CD Projekt rather than the customers who bought the game. Given the massive drop in share value for the company over the last week, this isn't a huge surprise. Several of the executives and co-founders of the company have reportedly lost over $1 billion in their own stock value since the game's launch.

No More Heroes And Its Sequel Get Rated For PC

3 years 4 months ago

The No More Heroes games have been primarily associated with Nintendo systems thus far, and the upcoming No More Heroes 3 will be a Switch exclusive. However, it looks like the first two games could be coming to PC if an ESRB rating listing is any indication.

Spotted by Gematsu, there are full ratings and descriptions available on the ESRB website for both No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. Only the Windows PC platform is listed at the top of each page, and the games were only available on Wii and Nintendo Switch, though an enhanced version of the first game did also come to PS3 and Xbox 360. Keep in mind that these rating descriptions do contain some spoilers about the games in order to convey their level of violence. If you haven't played them yet, you probably don't want to read them.

The spinoff game Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes did release on PC eventually, coming alongside a PS4 version in late 2019 after the game initially launched as a Switch exclusive. It's possible something like this could also be planned for No More Heroes 3, though only a Switch version has been revealed so far. Ports of the first two games are available on Switch now.

Halo Xbox 360 Games Will Lose Online Services In 2021

3 years 4 months ago

We are about to reach the end of a very important era for Xbox--well, in about a year. Microsoft has announced that in December 2021, it will be taking Xbox 360 services offline for the Halo series. This move will affect seven different games, including two games in the original trilogy, limiting or completely disabling online matchmaking.

In a post on Halo Waypoint, 343 Industries said that it takes a great deal of resources in order to maintain the services for these games. Total player-count has been dwindling as more players choose to play the Xbox One or PC versions through the Master Chief Collection, and the Xbox 360 versions haven't even been available to purchase physically for about two years.

The games affected are listed below:

Call of Duty: Warzone's Stim Glitch Is Back

3 years 4 months ago

One of Call of Duty: Warzone's most infamous glitches has returned, according to a number of players. There have been reports that some players have used the glitch to hide in the storm, healing themselves over and over again, until they are the last person standing.

The glitch takes advantage of Warzone's stim, a piece of tactical equipment that quickly brings you to full health. Players have found a way to break the game and use the stim infinitely, allowing them to survive the gas. Other players are usually left alone in the final circle, doing whatever they can to survive until the storm kills them.

"I posted about the stim glitch returning last night and this is the clip from the game," said Redditor Konspiracy in a thread with another example of someone using the glitch. "Looking at the game stats, the cheater got their win with 0 kills, 11011 damage and 10971 damage taken...I’m not sure how they got so much damage without any kills."

Back 4 Blood's Closed PC Alpha Test Now Available, But Only For A Short Time

3 years 4 months ago

We got a first look at Back 4 Blood, Turtle Rock Studios' next zombie game after Left 4 Dead, at The Game Awards. Now, you can sign up for and experience the game's closed PC alpha test until December 21. Go to Back 4 Blood's website for registration instructions. Note that registration does not guarantee access and operates on a first come, first served basis. See the end of the article for minimum PC spec requirements.

If you miss this closed PC alpha test, you will likely have another chance to play Back 4 Blood before launch. Turtle Rock Studios stated in its Back 4 Blood FAQ, "...stay tuned for more opportunities to play the game in the future."

Back 4 Blood is a four-player cooperative game set in a zombie apocalypse. You play as Cleaners, a group of humans, fighting against zombie-like creatures called the Ridden. The game also includes a competitive multiplayer feature, and participants can play in an online PvP that supports up to eight players. Teams can take turns playing as both the Cleaners and the evil Ridden.

Fortnite Parking Tickets Are Getting Ridiculous

3 years 4 months ago

Fortnite's Joy Ride update was one of the battle royale's best batches of new content in recent memory. It added semi-realistic sports cars, trucks, and sedans that are more fun to mess around with compared to Fortnite's previous set of vehicles. So it's a shame that you can't actually drive them all.

A good number of cars spread across the map are locked with a yellow boot. It's almost as if there is some sort of secret parking enforcement agency working extra hard to prevent players from having fun. Nothing ruins a plan to escape the storm faster than finding a car parked in the middle of nowhere with a boot on its tire. Some players have gotten so annoyed that they've asked Epic to add bolt cutters, an item that could break the boots, to the battle royale.

What's even worse is that Epic Games removed helicopters from the game at the beginning of Season 5. Mudflaps, the big semi-trucks, had also been removed due to a bug that made players invisible. Mudflaps have now been re-added to the game, but it seems like there are fewer ways to get around the map with every update. At least the Operation Snowdown Winter added the X-4 Stormwing planes back to the game.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Update Coming Soon, Full Patch Notes Revealed

3 years 4 months ago

Co-developer Raven Software will deploy a new update for Call of Duty: Warzone on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S soon that re-enables the recently removed XP tokens players were saving up. The patch notes are outlined below.

All XP tokens earned prior to the start of Season 1 are now usable in both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone. However, any tokens acquired during Season 1 and beyond will only work in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. From this point forward, XP tokens--which are used to help players level up faster--can't be used in Modern Warfare's multiplayer.

Players were saving their XP tokens to level up the Black Ops Cold War weapons that just hit Warzone. This includes the Groza Assault Rifle and Mac-10 submachine gun.

Watch Dogs Legion Multiplayer Mode Coming Early 2021

3 years 4 months ago

Watch Dogs: Legion has been receiving regular updates with bug fixes and quality-of-life features, but with that work done Ubisoft says it's looking ahead to the next big thing: multiplayer. The online mode is expected to release with a title update in early 2021.

In a State of the Game update, Ubisoft says that future updates will continue to issue fixes and improvements, but most title updates from here on will include new content. The company says it wanted to focus on fixing some remaining player issues before shifting resources, and now it feels is the time to make that shift. This is the first we've heard of the multiplayer mode since it was delayed in service of prioritizing bug fixes.

When it launches, the online mode will allow up to four players to roam the open-world London and take on missions together. The multiplayer options will also include the first Tactical Op and a new PvP mode, Spiderbot Arena. The blog also promises it's looking into more game modes and surprises, and it will be detailing those along with the Season Pass story content next year.

GameSpot After Dark Ep. 72: Our Personal Top 5 Games Of 2020

3 years 4 months ago

This week on GameSpot After Dark, the crew discusses their personal top 5 games of 2020. (Last year we did our personal top 10 lists, and that took about a thousand hours, so we narrowed it down for you this year.) Jake, Lucy, Tamoor, and Kallie wax poetic about such games as Persona 5 Royal, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Hades, and more that I won't spoil for you in this intro paragraph.

This is all preceded by a rather somber discussion about the complexities of Cyberpunk 2077's launch, including the game's notably poor performance on base PS4 and Xbox One hardware. The After Dark crew gets a little bit sad thinking about people who are sad about all this.

Also, do you know what a "teaboo" is? No? Well, we have good news--you'll only have to wait about five seconds before we start explaining that one. Jolly good show!

Master Chief's Warthog Is The Suprise Star Of Fortnite

3 years 4 months ago

The one and only Master Chief came to Fortnite after a surprise reveal at The Game Awards earlier this month. Lobbies were filled with Spartans almost immediately, but the real star of the show wasn't him--it was his Warthog. People love that little engine that could.

"I might not have had the v-bucks to get Master Chief," said Redditor TheRealCourtNut in a thread about the new emote. "But hell yes did I buy this skin and amused the hell out of myself with it last night."

Just like Kratos before him, Master Chief came to the item shop with a back bling, glider, harvesting tool, and an emote. The emote, which can be purchased separately and used on other characters, shows the character riding around on a mini-Warthog. Master Chief may be the hot skin right now, but every pre-game lobby is packed with tiny Warthogs scooting around in circles. And yes, they are Warthogs despite being more the size of the Mongoose vehicle also found in nearly every Halo game.

Best Free/Cheap Games Of 2020

3 years 4 months ago

You don't need to spend $60 or $70 to get a great game, and quite often it's not even required to spend any money at all. It wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to suggest that free-to-play games dominate the industry, with staples like Fortnite: Battle Royale and Call of Duty: Warzone among the most-played games today. And when you're looking for a new single-player game, it's easy to find riveting and stellar indies for low prices.

GameSpot's Free/Cheap category spotlights 11 games that truly emphasize the fact that some of the best releases don't have conventional price tags. As you'll see, this is an eclectic mix of games, from wildly popular free-to-play multiplayer games to affecting narrative-focused independent games.

For the purpose of this list, we've defined cheap as $15 and under. Of course, free-to-play games feature microtransactions, so you could wind up spending quite a bit more, but you don't have to with the games we've highlighted. While most of the games on this list released in 2020, you'll notice that a few are existing live service games, each of which continued to make big strides forward throughout the year.

Cyberpunk 2077 Refunds Are Available For Physical Copies, But Only For A Few Days

3 years 4 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 has gone through a few tumultuous weeks since launch, with current-gen console players decrying the amount of bugs, clipping, frame rate issues, and full-on crashes. Dissatisfied with the gameplay experience, some players asked for refunds. CD Projekt Red--as well as retail and online stores--is responding and making its refund policies known.

CD Projekt Red's latest statement addresses retail purchases. The company explicitly comments that their intention is for "every owner of a physical copy, or a digital copy bought at retail, who has valid proof of purchase, to receive a refund." Notably, CD Projekt Red states it will refund players out of its own pocket if necessary. Players have until December 21, 2020 to request refund help from CD Projekt Red.

Retail stores are clarifying and modifying policies around game software returns for Cyberpunk 2077, as well. Best Buy will officially refund Cyberpunk 2077 console edition purchases from now until December 21, 2020, in line with CD Projekt Red's own deadline. Previously, per its return policy, Best Buy did not refund opened game software. It will return to that policy after December 21.

Fortnite Snowmando Outpost Location: Where To Find Snowmando Outposts

Call Of Duty: Warzone's New Map Is Fast-Paced, Short-Lived Fun

3 years 4 months ago

Among the new additions to Call of Duty: Warzone which have arrived as part of its integration with Black Ops Cold War is a new map. But this isn't a full-scale map on par with Verdansk. Instead, it's a compact, densely populated island about the size of two of Verdansk's named locations. Matches are quick and packed with fights--providing a nice change of pace from the sprawling landscapes that players have become accustomed to with Warzone's main map.

The fact that Rebirth Island feels so good shows that Warzone is in need of something new for its standard mode and map. Many players wish Rebirth Island were added to Verdansk as a new location alongside its current placement as a special mode for three-person squads. They're frustrated that this has been one of few major changes to the game in its first year, and it's not even an original area. It's taken directly from Black Ops 4's battle royale mode, Blackout.

Cyberpunk 2077 Staff Ask CD Projekt Red Tough Questions Following Disastrous Launch - Report

3 years 4 months ago

Staff at CD Projekt Red are asking upper management and publisher CD Projekt SA questions about why Cyberpunk 2077 released in such a poor state, according to a Bloomberg report.

During an internal meeting this week, CD Projekt Red developers posed blunt and pointed questions to the board of directors about the company's reputation, Cyberpunk 2077's unrealistic deadlines, and the mandatory crunch and numerous delays before its release.

Some staff asked why the board marketed that the game was "complete and playable" earlier this year when that evidently wasn't true. Other CD Projekt Red employees thought it ironic that the developer was making a game about corporate exploitation while imposing crunch periods. When asked specifically about crunch during this week's staff meeting, the board said that plans to improve production are set to be implemented in the future, but there was no clarification on what that meant. The other questions were either dodged or given vague answers.

After a couple of delays following the release of the Beyond Light expansion, Destiny 2's toughest multiplayer challenge, the Trials of Osiris, returns to the game this weekend. Along with it comes the opportunity to earn new Adept weapons and mods, making Trials the only place to earn some of the best gear in the game--especially if you can manage to go Flawless.

Each week, the map that Trials matches are played on changes, as do the gear rewards you can earn for notching wins in the tournament. Here's a rundown of where you'll play this week's Trials matches and what you can get:

Destiny 2 Dawning Recipes (2020): Gifts And Rewards

3 years 4 months ago

The annual Destiny 2 winter/Christmas holiday event, The Dawning, is back for 2020, bringing holiday cheer to the solar system. The Dawning runs until the weekly reset on Tuesday, January 4, requiring you to bake lots of treats to unlock special Dawning rewards. The key component of the event is Eva's Holiday Oven 2.0, an item that lets you bake cookies using recipes you'll discover as you combine ingredients earned throughout the solar system. While some characters are gone this year, five new ones have been added with the Beyond Light expansion, and with them come new treat recipes to discover.

The treats you make are handed over to Destiny's various NPCs--including some you might not expect, such as Last Wish raid boss Riven--to complete bounties and quests, earning you various rewards. Because you won't want to waste any ingredients you've gathered, we've put together a full list of all Dawning recipes, as well as a list of ways to acquire the items you'll need. To kick off all the Dawning festivities, visit Eva Levante in the tower to pick up your Holiday Oven and get a quick rundown of how to use it.

If you want to do a lot of baking, it'll require some grinding. You'll earn ingredients in a variety of ways, but they almost all involve killing enemies--what you obtain will depend on the enemy type (eg, kill Vex to get Vex Milk) or what you use to kill them (Personal Touch comes from melee kills, Sharp Flavor from sword kills, and so on). No matter what you're baking, you'll also need 15 Essence of Dawning for each recipe; this drops to 10 once you masterwork the oven by baking (and thus discovering) each available recipe.

CoD: Black Ops Cold War, Warzone Get Another Update, Full Patch Notes Detailed

3 years 4 months ago

Following a recent update that added a bunch of new content to kick off Season 1, developer Treyarch has dropped yet another patch for both Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This update makes improvements to spawns on Nuketown '84, removes health regen for one team in Prop Hunt, and implements various quality-of-life updates. The full patch notes are outlined below.

Alongside resolving the "Zed 398 Swift Cover" issue that blocked PC players from booting up Season 1 maps, the headlining feature of this update is the newly adjusted spawn logic on Nuketown '84. Though Treyarch didn't go into detail about how spawns have changed, players should expect them to behave more reasonably on the retro-futuristic map.

On the multiplayer side of things, in addition to fixing crashes related to field upgrades and scorestreaks, those on the Props team in Prop Hunt will no longer have automatic regenerating health. Further, the Steel Chair from the Prop list on Checkmate has been removed.

Stardew Valley Update 1.5 May Still Release In 2020

3 years 4 months ago

Indie developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has been aiming the ambitious Stardew Valley 1.5 update for this year, but if you've looked at a calendar lately you know there's not much of this year left. But fret not, fellow farmers: Barone says he may still be able to release the update this year on PC.

In answering a fan on Twitter, Barone said it might come out on PC this year, though console players will still have to wait for early 2021. This was only a "might," so it seems he may still be working through some last remaining bugs and polish, as he said in November.

Previously, Barone has said that most of the new content is aimed at endgame players who have developed their farms, though there will be new features that players will be able to enjoy if they start from the beginning too. At least one new feature is split-screen cooperative play, which may support up to four players depending on the platform. Barone also teased a new door in the back of Willie's shop, but where it goes or what it does is unknown.

Diablo Immortal Is Running A Technical Alpha In Australia

3 years 4 months ago

Select members of the public are now able to get their hands on a preview of Diablo Immortal, the mobile spin-off of Blizzard's popular Diablo series. The technical alpha is limited to Australian players who pre-registered for testing through the Google Play store. Spots in the alpha will be assigned based on how early players signed up, provided their devices meet the minimum requirements.

The purpose of the technical alpha is to test server stability and game performance across a wider range of devices, but also for Blizzard to get wider feedback on the way the game plays. Blizzard is anticipating a few thousand players will participate in the alpha, which will run for a few weeks as the team collects data from players.

Despite being a mobile spin-off, Diablo Immortal still intends to tell a story within the universe, with its narrative sitting in between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. While the game will launch with six playable classes--Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk, Wizard, Crusader, and Necromancer--the technical alpha will only include four of these, with the other two not quite ready for public play.

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Been Removed From The PlayStation Store And Refunds Will Be Issued

3 years 4 months ago

CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 released on consoles in a less than optimal state--and now, PlayStation has taken action. The company has removed the game from the PlayStation Store, and promised to issue refunds to customers.

Cyberpunk 2077 no longer appears when you search for it on the PlayStation Store, and Sony has shared a link for players to claim a refund for the digital version of the release. This applies to both the PS4 and PS5 stores.

As players began to discover Cyberpunk 2077's shoddy release state on consoles, developer CD Projekt Red suggested that Sony and Microsoft would be able to issue refunds; however, it eventually transpired that consultation with these companies had not happened, and the company soon stopped suggesting contacting PlayStation for a refund.

PUBG Spin-Off Horror The Callisto Protocol Gets Gross In This Red Band Trailer

3 years 4 months ago

The Callisto Protocol was announced at The Game Awards earlier this month, giving us an intriguing first look at this new horror title that is, curiously, set within the same game universe as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The trailer we saw during the show was toned down, though--and now a far more violent Red Band version has been released.

The trailer starts similarly, and is still giving us major Dead Space vibes--which makes sense, since developer Striking Distance was founded by the game's co-creator, Glen Schofield. However, while the initial trailer cut away from the monster attack, this one doesn't.

This extended trailer shows the character we were introduced to during The Game Awards getting brutalized, and it's not pretty. If you're not good with eye stuff (as many people aren't), you might want to skip this trailer.

The trailer also has a new ending, proving the character's fate definitively.

The Callisto Protocol will release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2022. We haven't seen gameplay footage yet, so it's not entirely clear what kind of game it will be just yet.

Cyberpunk 2077: How To Unlock The Secret Ending

3 years 4 months ago

Note: It might be obvious, but this post contains significant spoilers for the story and ending of Cyberpunk 2077--even though we've tried to limit them.

There are a bunch of different endings available in Cyberpunk 2077 depending on your choices, your relationships, and how you've interacted with Johnny Silverhand over the course of the game before you reach it. Triggering them all requires some work, but if you've met the prerequisites, you'll see how to access each one in a pretty straightforward way when the time comes. That's true of all but one separate, secret ending that you might not ever know you have access to--and which will put you through one of Cyberpunk's toughest challenges.

To get the secret ending, you need to make sure to have a high level of friendship with Johnny, which means you have completed his many side quests and have chosen friendly dialogue options, as opposed to antagonistic ones, when dealing with him. Check out our rundown of everything you should do before reaching Cyberpunk 2077's endgame for a complete picture of what Johnny Silverhand quests you can do and how to unlock them.

3 years 4 months ago

The next character being added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Cloud's archenemy, Sephiroth, who unlocks on December 22 (or earlier, if you can beat him in a special challenge). Fans have been wary about how much extra Final Fantasy music and content would be introduced, since Cloud, infamously, only had two character-specific music track when the game launched. Sephiroth, it turns out, is getting more support.

During today's presentation, it was revealed that nine new Final Fantasy songs are being introduced in this update, bringing the total to 11. These are focused on music from Final Fantasy VII and its spin-off movie, Advent Children, and include some new arrangements of classic songs.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: The Sephiroth Challenge Is Live, And It's Very Easy

3 years 4 months ago

Sephiroth, the new character in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, is available now for anyone who has purchased the Fighters Pass Volume 2. However, unlike previous DLC fighters, you need to defeat Sephiroth to unlock him, otherwise he remains locked for another week. The fight is live now, and thankfully, unlocking him is very easy.

When you start the game up, if you have the Fighters Pass, the Sephiroth Challenge will appear on the main menu, and you can start it by pressing the + button.

The Sephiroth Challenge is in the top-left of the start screen.

The Sephiroth Challenge is a HP battle on his new stage, Northern Cave, and there's three difficulty settings you can fight the Final Fantasy villain at. Doing so is not much of a challenge, especially on Easy, meaning that Sephiroth is effectively available today for players of almost all skill levels.

Hue Play Sync Box Review - A Great Way To Bring More Color To Your Games And Movies

3 years 4 months ago

In a year where movie theatres have closed down and our options for entertainment outside the home have dwindled, many people have opted to improve their home entertainment setups. Whether that's buying a new TV or improving a sound system, the home theater experience has been adopted by the masses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. But if you already have a great entertainment center, there are still a number of ways to spice things up in your living room. I've been testing the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box for the last few months, using it as a way to sync my Philips Hue lights with my games and movies, and I've found it to be a great way to enhance the experience of watching movies and playing certain games.

The Hue Play Sync Box is an HDMI splitter that features four HDMI-in ports and one HDMI-out port but can also be synced to any compatible Hue lights. That means you need the Sync Box, Hue lights, and a Hue Hub, the latter of which makes it possible for all of your Hue devices to communicate with each other. It's a lot to ask for in both setup and cost, but if you want a great lighting experience to accompany your movies and video games, this is an excellent way to get it.
