Call Of Duty: Warzone Players Are Unhappy About Black Ops Cold War Weapons

3 years 4 months ago

Call of Duty: Warzone now includes 30 new weapons from Black Ops Cold War and players are having trouble adapting to them. They've found that the new weapons are at a disadvantage compared to ones that have been in Warzone since March.

"These guns cannot and will not be able to compete with the current Modern Warfare guns," said Redditor ruckh in a thread about the new update. "It boils down to the attachments--specifically the barrel, the suppressors, and the grips."

Black Ops Cold War weapons were brought to Warzone with all of their original attachments and stat types--which are different to the ones used in Modern Warfare and Warzone. The attachments they do have can't compete with ones that were available before the update.

Bravely Default 2: Final Demo Is Available Now For Free On Switch

3 years 4 months ago

Bravely Default II has received a second--and final--demo, allowing players interested in the RPG sequel to check it out ahead of the Switch title's 2021 release. The demo is available now on the Eshop through the game's store page.

The Bravely Default II final demo features the game's four main characters some way into their adventure, meaning that many of the systems introduced early in the game are available to demo players from the start. Jobs and Abilities can be used and swapped, for instance.

Players who download the demo ahead of the game's launch will also be able to nab 100 My Nintendo Platinum Points, which can be redeemed for rewards through the My Nintendo portal.

The demo weighs in at 3.3GB. The game releases on February 26, 2021, and is available to preorder now.

Bravely Default II is, somewhat confusingly, the third game in the Bravely series. The original Bravely Default on 3DS was followed by a direct sequel, Bravely Second. This Switch game has a new cast of characters and setting, though.

3 years 4 months ago

Developer Spry Fox has announced Cozy Grove, a new game set on a haunted island that's giving off some serious Animal Crossing vibes. But whether or not this game has taken inspiration from Nintendo's massive series, Cozy Grove's big difference is that the island is swarming with ghosts.

The game, which is coming to Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in the first half of 2021, casts players as a "Spirit Scout". It's up to them to seek out the ghosts of the island and help them, building up a camp and crafting new materials as you go.

PS5 Software Sales Could Be Struggling Because Of Scalpers

3 years 4 months ago

The PlayStation 5 released worldwide in November, but right now it's very difficult to buy one, with stock in short supply. One issue since preorders opened has been the prevalence of scalpers, including bots that automatically buy systems to then resell at a higher price. Now, figures out of Japan suggest this might be an even more severe problem than first thought.

Bloomberg reports that strong console sales are not necessarily translating into software sales. Figures they've taken from Famitsu show that the system has sold 213,000 units in Japan since launch, but the sales for physical releases of the system's top 3 games (Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, and an unnamed third-party title) come to just 63,000 units.

Comparably, the Switch sold 525,000 units in its first month, and saw that almost matched with 509,000 sales for its top 3 games.

There are numerous caveats here--because of forwards compatibility, it's likely that many customers have bought PS4 versions of certain games for less money, and digital sales figures have been on the rise. The PS5 also has a digital only version, which would drive down physical sales, too. But the disparity is great enough to signal an issue, and because the PS5 is sold at a loss--as most consoles are at launch--Sony is reliant on software sales to make money.

VVVVVV Creator's Rougelike Dicey Dungeons Has Rolled Onto Switch

3 years 4 months ago

Nintendo's most recent Indie World showcase was a big one, and while we were busy watching it, an exciting new game dropped on the system. Dicey Dungeons, the latest game from VVVVVV and Super Hexagon creator Terry Cavanaugh, is now available on the Nintendo Switch.

In Dicey Dungeons, players choose from numerous playable dice characters, all of which have unique abilities. As you move between the nodes of each level, you'll come up against various enemies. Combat is based on dice rolls, with Yahtzee-like rules: you can play a rolled number on a corresponding attack, or you can re-roll dice several times to try and get numbers that better suit your abilities. As you go, you can power up and re-spec your dice, and if you die you need to start over.

The game costs $15 on Switch, with a 10% discount currently active for launch.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Lets You Rick Roll People Now

3 years 4 months ago

Call of Duty: Warzone is never gonna let you down. New songs, including Rick Astley's classic Never Gonna Give You Up, have been added to the game as vehicle tracks.

One of the most exciting things you can do in Warzone is hop in a vehicle and soar through Verdansk while blasting the horn. Players can customize what sound they make when they honk their car horns--those options now include the infamous rickrolling song. They better hope that someone isn't hiding on a nearby rooftop with an RPG.

If you don't know what it means to get Rickrolled, this link should be a good explainer.

Cross-save functionality was originally promised alongside Hades' launch on Nintendo Switch, but Supergiant Games decided to push the feature to focus on the game itself. The studio said it delayed the feature so it wouldn't have to delay the full release of the game.

Other improvements that had already been released on PC were also added to the Nintendo Switch with the update today. You can download it by launching Hades from the Nintendo Switch menu. Full patch notes for the update can be found on Supergiant's website.

Best Games Of 2020 - Demon's Souls

3 years 4 months ago

Over the next week, we will be posting features for what we've nominated to be the best games of 2020. Then, on December 17, we will crown one of the nominees as GameSpot's Best Game of 2020, so join us as we celebrate these 10 games on the road to the big announcement. Be sure to check out our other end-of-the-year coverage collected in our Best Games of 2020 hub.

Who would have thought that 11 years after its initial launch, Demon's Souls--a game described by a current senior PlayStation executive as "crap" and an "unbelievably bad game" when he played it during development--would be the showpiece for a new generation of PlayStation console.

From Software's PlayStation 3 original was, at the time, something that felt harsh and alienating to many. But for those who clicked with it, the game was a wholly unique experience that offered rewarding challenges with a palpable sense of self-improvement, a thoughtfully constructed world to explore and unpack, and a fascinating narrative that rewarded those willing to piece it together.

More Overwatch 2 News Coming February 2021

3 years 4 months ago

Blizzard has gone mostly quiet regarding Overwatch 2 this year, especially with the cancellation of BlizzCon. We know now when we'll be hearing more from the team, though, as game director Jeff Kaplan outlined upcoming plans in a year-end developer update video.

Kaplan said that we'll be hearing more details on Overwatch 2 in February at BlizzCon Online. That event was announced as a substitute for the in-person event that was canceled this year, and it only made sense that we'd hear more about Blizzard's upcoming slate of games and big game updates there.

The developer update also detailed a new free-for-all map, Kanezaka, coming to the original Overwatch, and recapped the game's updates throughout this year. Kaplan also mentioned that the team is mostly focused on Overwatch 2 right now.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Players Have Lost Their XP Tokens

3 years 4 months ago

Call of Duty: Warzone players have been anticipating the big update that would bring the battle royale together with Treyarch's Black Ops Cold War. However, many players were disappointed to find that the XP tokens they saved have been removed from Warzone completely.

"Did you guys notice that they took all our XP tokens from MW?" said Redditor IzNotorious. "I've been stacking them for a long time and I thought I could use them to level up my weapons in Cold War, only to notice that they took them all? Do you guys have the same problem?"

XP tokens help players level up faster by giving them double or triple the experience for a short period of time. Many players were saving them to level up the Black Ops Cold War weapons that were just added to Warzone. Now they're finding that they can only be used in Modern Warfare's multiplayer.

Cyberpunk 2077 Launch Issues Reportedly Cost Founders $1 Billion In Wealth

3 years 4 months ago

The technical issues surrounding the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 have had an impact on CD Projekt Red's stock value, and that in turn is reportedly hitting its founders' net worth. Bloomberg reports that the company's founders have cut the value of their joint stake by $1 billion in only a matter of days.

The joint 34% stake in the Polish company is co-owned by three executives--Marcin Iwinski, Adam Kicinski, and Piotr Nielubowicz--along with a fourth owner, Michal Kicinski. Those four have become the among the wealthiest Poles in recent years as anticipation grew for Cyberpunk. But as the stock has been dropping, so has their wealth. Their stake was reportedly worth about $3 billion on Tuesday.

Perhaps more importantly, analysts say this launch has cost the studio significant credibility. Average analyst forecasts for 12-month sales dropped from 30 million copies before the release to 25.6 million copies now.

Cyberpunk 2077 Guide: Do These Before The Point Of No Return

3 years 4 months ago

For most of Cyberpunk 2077, you'll have free rein to take on activities in Night City in any order you please. Much of the main story is divided into parallel investigations as V tries to find people who might know about the biochip in their head, and at any point, you can wander off and work your way through a variety of side missions. At some point, though, you'll hit the end of the road. From here, the main story continues on to its conclusion, leaving you with no opportunities to do any more side content until you've reached the end.

Cyberpunk 2077 politely marks this point in the story for you, flashing a big "Point of No Return" message on your screen so you don't bumble into the game's finale before you're ready. But at the same time, Night City is absolutely overwhelmingly flush with things to do, from side jobs to Fixer gigs to question marks and NCPD scanner hustles. And if you're not interested in completing everything, or if you find yourself impatient to know how it all ends, you might be asking how much of all that side material you absolutely need to do.

The good news is that there's a lot of side quests you can ignore without consequence. The bad news is that a few of them can be pretty important to how the game shakes out, even having an effect on the ending. Here's a complete rundown of everything you should scratch off your list before you pass the Point of No Return in Cyberpunk 2077 so you can be in the best possible story shape for the endgame. It's worth noting, though, that you can continue to level up your character and earn some extremely powerful weapons through additional side quests, and pursuing that stuff might not be a bad idea. Although we tried to limit them, there are SPOILERS beyond this point!

Cyberpunk 2077 PSA: Don't Unlock This Garbage Perk

3 years 4 months ago

There are a lot of perks you can buy for your character in Cyberpunk 2077, allowing you to customize your version of V to fit your play style and the ways you want to approach the game. There's one perk, however, that you should absolutely avoid--at least in the early part of the game when you're trying to earn money. That perk is called "Scrapper," and it will rob you.

You'll find the Scrapper perk under the Technical Ability attribute, on the Crafting skill tree. At first, it sounds useful enough. Scrapper allows you to automatically break down junk items into crafting components. Cyberpunk 2077 is littered with things that are considered "junk," like old vinyl records, ashtrays, packs of cards, lighters, and dildos. (It's worth noting that a recent update seems to have drastically reduced the number of dildos appearing in the game. For a while, though, there were so. many. dildos.)

Most of the junk items you find in Night City really are junk, and if you check them out in your Backpack, you'll find that they're pretty worthless. Most junk items will net you about 3 Eurodollars (or "eddies" in Night City parlance), so they're basically not worth the effort you'd expend in picking them up and lugging them to a vendor to unload them. Along that line, you might think Scrapper sounds great, since you can instantly break down junk you don't actually want, and that way it's not littering your backpack, weighing down your character (in a literal sense, because if you become over-encumbered by the stuff you're carrying, you won't be able to move quickly).

Gnosia, A Single-Player Visual Novel With Among Us Vibes, Is Coming To Switch

A round of Gnosia lasts only 5-15 minutes, with the player losing if the number of Gnosia on board overtakes the number of humans. Each time you play, which characters are human and which aren't changes, so you'll need to make fresh deductions each time.

The Elden Ring Community Is A Meme-Filled Mess

3 years 4 months ago

Just a few days ago, The Game Awards 2020 revealed a battery of trailers for highly-anticipated games, like a new Perfect Dark, the Left 4 Dead-like Back 4 Blood, and the dreamy Open Roads. However, for some, the most notable game barely made an appearance at all. Despite receiving the Most Anticipated Game award, From Software's latest project, Elden Ring, didn't receive any new details or trailers, which caused the game's community to explode in a memetic meltdown that still shows no signs of stopping.

To be clear, the Elden Ring subreddit is a surprisingly non-toxic environment compared to other video game spaces on the internet, and most of the memes and posts in the community are all in good fun. Still, there was definitely a sense of deflation in the subreddit when The Game Awards ended without an update on the game. One of the top posts all-time on the subreddit came just moments after the event ended, and it speaks for itself:

Engineer Gets Ray Tracing To Work On SNES

3 years 4 months ago

There are many engineers out there who solve problems that the vast majority of people can't even properly comprehend, and there are others who go the extra mile to find problems that most of us aren't even aware of. A software engineer and game developer named Ben Carter has figured out a way to get ray tracing working on an SNES, and the results are pretty incredible.

As any hardcore SNES fan knows, several of the console's most popular games relied on a chipset that was included as part of the cartridge itself in order to help the SNES achieve certain technological goals. The best-known example of this is the Super FX chip that powered the original Star Fox. Carter has designed a chip in that mold that he calls the SuperRT that allows the SNES to perform ray tracing.

Carter's video shows off what the SuperRT is capable of, and it includes all of the very finicky details on how he got it to work. Essentially, however, it works on the same principle as the Super FX chip: the SuperRT constructs the scene and feeds it to the SNES's processor in language it can understand. The nest of cables shown in the video isn't due to any particular technical wizardry on Carter's part; most of them are level shifter cables that allow the SuperRT's field-programmable gate array board and the SNES to run at the same voltage.

Best Games Of 2020 - Hades

3 years 4 months ago

Over the next week, we will be posting features for what we've nominated to be the best games of 2020. Then, on December 17, we will crown one of the nominees as GameSpot's Best Game of 2020, so join us as we celebrate these 10 games on the road to the big announcement. Be sure to check out our other end-of-the-year coverage collected in our Best Games of 2020 hub.

Your first trip through Hades, like most, will end in death. But that first run is an exciting one, revealing an evolution of the isometric action-RPG combat that Supergiant has been mastering since 2011's Bastion. You'll see how you can utilize your dash to avoid danger or press the attack; discover how positioning matters due to dangerous traps littered throughout levels and the bonus damage you can deal to enemies from behind or by knocking them into walls; and get a taste of the upgrades that you'll be able to encounter and equip to ensure each run feels distinct.

It all makes for an immediately satisfying combat system. Then you die, maybe after encountering a boss or, more likely in those early runs, by falling prey to a seemingly innocuous foe or a trap you set off. Whatever the case, you head back to the House of Hades, chat up some of the residents--including your father, Hades--and set out again. You'll die once again, maybe after making it a bit further, or perhaps even sooner due to overconfidence or sheer bad luck. However you earn your trip back to home, you'll again speak with Hades and others, and the true core of the game will begin to reveal itself.

Cyberpunk 2077: How To (Try To) Get A Refund

3 years 4 months ago

After years of anticipation, the release of Cyberpunk 2077 has been soured by bugs ranging from funny graphical glitches to game-breaking crashes. The bulk of these are occurring for players on PS4 and Xbox One, which led CD Projekt Red to suggest that players who are unhappy with the game should seek refunds.

Depending on what country you're in and where you bought the game, however, this might not be the easiest task. In a tweet, CD Projekt Red admitted that the game had performance issues on PS4 and Xbox One, and recommended seeking a refund at your point of sale. "For copies purchased digitally, please use the refund system of PSN or Xbox respectively. For boxed versions, please first try to get a refund at the store where you bought the game."

As Lifehacker reports, online retailers like Amazon and Walmart have extended their returns periods for the holidays, which may be a bonus for unhappy Cyberpunk 2077 players. However digital storefronts like Steam, the PSN Store, and Microsoft store often have more restrictive refund policies.

The Hong Kong Massacre Is Coming To Switch This Month

3 years 4 months ago

The Hong Kong Massacre, a stylish, brutal, difficult top-down action game that hit PS4 and PC in early 2019, is coming to Switch. The shooter, a tale of revenge that wears its Hotline Miami influence on its sleeve, will release on the Nintendo Switch Eshop on December 26.

The reveal trailer below shows off how the game looks on Switch--and it looks very much like the PS4/PC versions of the game. The game will cost $20, but it can be preordered at a discounted price of $16.

Warning: the trailer below is very violent, as is the game itself.

Cyberpunk 2077 PSA: Get Double-Jump Cyberware, Not Charge Jump

3 years 4 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 is a huge game, and part of what makes the size of Night City compelling is the number of options you'll have to go through many of its missions. When working your way through the territory of gangs, corps, or other enemies, you can go in guns blazing, pick a stealthier approach, or even often talk your way out of conflicts altogether. Having more options allows you to tune Cyberpunk 2077 to your playstyle.

Apart from the character attributes you choose to invest in, one of the biggest ways you'll unlock new paths for yourself is through your cyberware. These are the cybernetic augmentations you can install in your body, enhancing your strength, vision, hacking capabilities, and more. But there's one piece of cyberware you should absolutely get, even if you ignore all the others--it'll change the way you play Cyberpunk 2077 and open up a whole lot of possibilities, from how you approach missions to how you get around the world.

That piece of cyberware is the Reinforced Tendons upgrade for your legs, and it unlocks an extremely useful ability: double jump.

Cyberpunk 2077 Guide: Best Cyberware Upgrades And Where To Find Them

3 years 4 months ago

There are many ways in Cyberpunk 2077 to deck out your V and improve their capabilities. Along with a massive arsenal of guns, including a talking gun that fancies the songs of Rhianna, there is also an extensive array of cybernetic upgrades for you to acquire. Given the scope of the game's Cyberware system, we wanted to single out some of the best upgrades in the game that you should invest in.

Along with breaking down some of the most powerful upgrades, we also explain where to find them in the game. We also highlight some notable upgrades that you might be better avoiding in order to save time and your hard-earned eddies.

Night City's Best Cyberware

Reinforced Tendons (Double Jump): Biomechanical connective tissue supporting leg muscles.

These leg upgrades will allow V to perform a double jump, a video game staple across many different action games and platformers. If your character is particularly agile, this upgrade is a must if you want to reach some of the harder reach areas around Night City, or just want to put some extra finesse into different combat encounters.

Nintendo Switch NES/SNES Collection Adds Donkey Kong Country 3 And 4 Other Games This Month

3 years 4 months ago

Fans of the Donkey Kong Country trilogy on SNES, rejoice--Donkey Kong Country 3 is joining the Nintendo Switch Online collection this month. The third game in the trilogy--which is not quite as beloved as the first two, but is still well-regarded--arrives on December 18, alongside four other games.

Donkey Kong Country 3 features Dixie and Kiddy Kong, on a quest to rescue Donkey and Diddy. The game introduced overworld vehicles and some new moves, and it still looks great in 2020.

There are three more SNES games and a NES game coming on December 18, too. The other SNES games are a bit more obscure, and you can check them out in the trailer below.

The Ignition Factor is a game about fighting fires, Super Valis IV is a scrolling action game, and Tuff E Nuff is a fighting game. While these games are unlikely to stir up as much nostalgia as Donkey Kong, there's still bound to be some love for them among players.

Nightshade on the NES is an interesting choice, too--it's an adventure game, developed by Australian Beam Software. The 1992 game was criticized for poor controls at the time, but it's an interesting curio, and definitely a title that few players have had a chance to experience.

The NES/SNES library on Nintendo Switch Online now features over 90 games.
