Crusader Kings 3's next expansion has been announced. Tours & Tournaments will introduce new events to the medieval grand strategy game including jousting events, grand weddings and the ability to send you ruler on a tour of their domain. All offer an opportunity to impress your subjects and rivals - or, I'd guess, to fall off your horse and die.

Everspace 2 Review

1 year 1 month ago

Explosive, colorful, and punchy, Everspace 2 combines the looter-shooter RPG treadmill with arcade space dogfights to build an interesting combo that has surprising diversity in how you can play it. While it looks like a space sim on the outside, and it has nods to the stuff you do in that genre like fight pirates, mine asteroids, and build reputation, Everspace 2 shouldn't be mistaken for one. To its benefit and its detriment, this is a through-and-through lootin’ and shootin’ beast that's much more interested in entertaining you with flashy fights and reconfiguring your fighter in a mind-boggling number of ways rather than simulating – or stimulating you with – anything else.

That right there should probably tell a lot of you whether you want to play it at all. The other bit is that this is technically a sequel, but… not really. The first Everspace is a roguelite where every mission is procedurally generated, while this one is a more traditional action RPG about taking on a main story quest and side missions, solving open-world puzzles, and blowing through randomly generated contracts for the 50 or so hours it takes to finish the main story. Or 100 hours to play all of it. Then a few dozen more optimizing your builds to bash away at the randomly generated endgame bits, if you like those.

How to Catch Cutiefly and Evolve It into Ribombee in Pokemon GO

1 year 1 month ago

How to Catch Cutiefly and Evolve It into Ribombee in Pokemon GO

The latest Pokemon GO spring event means people can now catch Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Cutiefly and evolve it into Ribombee in the game. It’s a permanent addition, which means you can find it basically forever now that it’s available. However, it will only be more easily and frequently seen in-game until April 10, 2023. Fortunately, it isn’t too difficult to happen upon one. However, as its new, it isn’t available in its shiny form yet.

Cutiefly is a somewhat uncommon spawn in the wild in Pokemon GO, which means you’ll likely see Buneary and Bunnelby more often. (I only saw two all day, and that involved taking a walk.) But they aren’t the most rare and I saw it more frequently than I did the flower crown Chansey or Togetic. You also have a chance of hatching a 2km egg with Cutiefly in it if you acquire the egg before April 10, 2023.

[gallery columns="1" ids="958345" link="file"]
The more sure-fire way to catch a Cutiefly in Pokemon GO right now is to participate in Raid. It is showing up in one-star Raids until April 10, 2023. The one I saw ended up only being about 3000 power. As a bug and fairy type, a Pokemon with fire, flying, poison, rock, or steel type moves will take it right out.

How to Access the Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue DLC

How to Access the Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue DLC

Nintendo released the 2.0.0 Fire Emblem Engage patch, and that means people who purchased the expansion pass can now access the Fell Xenologue DLC. However, it isn't immediately available to play. You actually need to get to a certain point in the story and unlock other features before you can also take advantage of this new storyline.

How to Access the Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue DLC

First, you need to reach chapter six in the main campaign. This is because the Fell Xenologue DLC is tied to a free gameplay feature added in the 1.3.0 update, the Ancient Well.

If you've done so, then loading your save after updating to 2.0.0 will trigger a cutscene introducing the Fell Xenologue DLC campaign. Your version of Alear will be talking with Xander in front of the Ancient Well. He'll instruct you to look at it. The game will then offer a tutorial explaining you can enter it there and visit it as you'd like.

If you are just coming back to the game and unlocking the Ancient Well and DLC access at once, first go through the process of unlocking the well at the Armory. After that, return to the well. The cutscene with Xander will play.

Designing a mobile Mario game was "challenging", Shigeru Miyamoto says

Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the Super Mario series, has revealed the difficulty faced when creating Mario games for mobile.

Mario has had a few mobile outings over the last seven years - starting with Super Mario Run in 2016, and then Mario Kart Tour and Dr. Mario World in 2019.

Nintendo has since moved away from Mario on mobile, after it shut down Dr. Mario World for good just two years after it launched.

Five of The Best: Dragons

1 year 1 month ago

Five of the Best is a weekly series for supporters. It's a series about highlighting some of the features in games that are often overlooked. It's also a series about you having your say, so don't be shy, use the comments below and join in!

Oh and you can find our entire Five of the Best archive elsewhere on the site.

It's a bit of a running joke here how much I like dragons. Has it got a dragon in it? Give it to Bertie. And it's true, I do like them! I like them a lot. If I could have my way, dragons would be in everything. It's because of what they represent to me - they represent adventure. They are my memories of being whisked away as a kid by The Hobbit, or by A Wizard of Earthsea. Ah! What memories. And they are me playing countless role-playing games after that. Dragons are role-playing games, as far as I'm concerned. And I can't believe it's taken me this long to do a Five of the Best about them.

Preview: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is Saturday Morning Strategy

1 year 1 month ago

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Preview

They sure kept us waiting, huh?

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is far from the first game in the Wars franchise to see release troubles, of course! Nestled between the years of no confidence in the franchise’s success in the West and the years of no confidence in the franchise’s success in Japan was a small golden era, but even that started with trying to launch a war game on September 10, 2001.

All of that’s to say, well, adversity is kind of what Wars games do.

Re-Boot Camp seems more aware than ever of that reputation, and in the early hours with the game, you can’t avoid its efforts to push against its subject matter and lighten the mood at every turn. Advance Wars was — with one exception — always a whimsical take on combat, but Re-Boot Camp takes it to Saturday morning cartoon territory.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Preview

The board and units look more like toys, and bounce around accordingly. The game’s plot follows the same points, but personalities are all a bit more over-the-top. There’s more chatter. And if it weren’t obvious enough through this stuff? Series protagonist Andy shows up with a voice performance that would charitably be described as Ash Ketchum-adjacent.

Interview: Shigeru Miyamoto And Koji Kondo Talk The Super Mario Bros. Movie

1 year 1 month ago

Shirgeru Miyamoto and Koji Kondo

After a decade of planning and cross-company collaboration, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is finally out today. The project comes from production company and distributor Universal Pictures and animation studio Illumination. Notably, the trio of production teams involved with this film is rounded out by Nintendo, the legendary company responsible for the creation of Mario nearly four decades ago. Nintendo was involved not as a licensor but as a partner with Illumination and Universal.

Every step of the way, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who is credited as a producer on this film alongside Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri, had creative input regarding the story, characters, and references to the games. Meanwhile, Koji Kondo, who is responsible for many of the iconic songs from the Super Mario series, acted as a score consultant, working with the movie's composer, Brian Tyler.

Following last weekend's premiere of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in Los Angeles, California, we sat down with Shigeru Miyamoto and Koji Kondo for a rare double interview to hear their thoughts on the movie, talk about the collaboration, and more. You can read the full transcript below.

How have you found the reaction to the Super Mario Bros. Movie now that other people have finally seen it?
Koji Kondo:
Well, everyone laughed at the right times. They had the right reactions with the right moments of the film that we were hoping for. I saw a lot of children who seemed to be enjoying the movie as well, so it was fantastic!

Indiescovery Episode 7: the best indies we played at PAX East 2023

1 year 1 month ago

It's episode seven of Indiescovery and this week, wow, the gang is tired. With a busy four days in Boston for PAX East, mine and Liam's brains were basically mush last week, so Rebecca - an absolute angel - graciously said she could host a special PAX East episode where she chats with Liam and me about the indies we saw on the show floor and try desperately to string together a coherent sentence. She also made bulletpoints of our entire chat so writing up the shownotes would be easier; we do not deserve her.

Saying that, our exhaustion doesn't stop us from kicking up a riot over the BAFTA Game Awards at the start of the episode. We then delve into our PAX East indie round up and, as always, we end with our current hyperfixations.

A Highland Song gives Death Stranding a musical run for its money

1 year 1 month ago

A belated apology to anyone who was assaulted by a sudden burst of upbeat bagpipes in the GDC press room the other week. I was having an early sneak peak at Inkle's new game A Highland Song in an appointment booth with paper-thin walls and no ceiling. The speakers on my Steam Deck demo unit were really going "full pipe" that day, so I'd like to say a big awkward sorry to any of my neighbours in there who were trying to conduct actual serious business interviews.

But also: A Highland Song is 100% a game that deserves to have its music cranked up to full, whether it's returning Heaven's Vault composer Laurence Chapman's soaring orchestral score, or Scottish bands Talisk and Fourth Moon's aforementioned folk music. The clue's in the name, after all, and after a spirited 30 minutes with it, I'm certain this will have Inkle fans singing from the hilltops.

Stay in your seats for two Super Mario Bros. Movie credits scenes

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now out in cinemas, and if you're planning to go, you've likely already heard there's something extra at the end of its credits.

Having seen the movie for ourselves, Eurogamer can now go into detail on what these scenes are - so, take this as your spoiler warning if you are going to see the film and don't want to know what to expect.

There are actually two scenes to stay put for throughout the movie's credits - one after the first set of credits (which end with a pleasing nod to former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata) and then the other at the very end.

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D review: faster than 13900K and 7950X3D for gaming?

1 year 1 month ago

The one that we've been waiting for is here. The $449 Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor promises to deliver similar gaming performance to AMD's flagship 7950X3D and Intel's Core i9 13900K, while consuming less power and costing significantly less than its rivals. To find out which of these three options is the fastest gaming CPU on the market, we've started a shootout - and tested each option fresh in nine of the most challenging CPU-limited scenarios, from modern games that soak all available threads to ray tracing showcases and esports titles.

Our expectations for the 7800X3D are high - after all, the CPU's design permits its full 120W TDP to be dedicated solely to an eight-core chiplet complete with performance-boosting 3D V-Cache. By comparison, the 7950X3D and 7900X3D released in February split that power budget across two chiplets, only one equipped with the extra L3 cache, so we could potentially see even greater performance than these CPUs. It's a similar story to the Intel Core i9 13900K, a fantastic gaming and content creation CPU - but one that relies on scheduling algorithms built into Windows to make full use of its asymmetric performance core and efficiency core design.

Even getting close to its rivals in terms of frame-rate could put the 7800X3D in the same hallowed tier as the legendary 5800X3D, a reasonably affordable mid-range CPU that punches well above its weight and even challenges Intel's equivalent-generation flagship parts.

No Man's Sky's Interceptor update adds corrupted worlds, useable Sentinel tech, more

After a bit of a VR-focused update back in February, Hello Games has once again turned its content nozzle on No Man's Sky, blasting out pilotable Sentinel ships, corrupted worlds, and more in the exploratory space sim's new Interceptor update.

Interceptor picks up where February's Fractal update left off, making the new Interceptor ship class (previously an expedition-exclusive reward) available to everyone. However, given these vessels' unique Sentinel-tech, players will need some special resources to make them tick.

As it happens, Sentinels factor heavily in No Man's Sky latest update, with players also able to acquire Sentinel Multi-Tools and Sentinel jetpacks. Additionally, it's now possible for well-armed Travellers to take on powerful Sentinel Capital ships, with victory against the new threats clearing a player's "wanted" status and earning new high-value rewards.

Super Mario Bros. Movie review - an entertaining advert for everything Nintendo

1 year 1 month ago

It's taken 30 years, but Nintendo finally has a Super Mario Bros. movie to please the masses. As a life-long Nintendo fan, I still can't quite believe it exists - even seeing photos of Shigeru Miyamoto rubbing shoulders with Chris Pratt on the Hollywood red carpet this week felt like a bizarre collision of galaxies - and yet in this age of Sonic the Hedgehog film sequels and Mushroom Kingdom theme parks, it's simultaneously odd it has taken this long. Here we are then, with 90 minutes of bright and breezy fare bringing Mario and the gang to the big screen in an adventure which is all-action and wafer-thin on plot - just like most Mario games! - albeit with a few tantalising hints at character development buried between the constant cameos and continual laughs.

Aside from those cameos, it's almost impossible to spoil the Super Mario Bros. Movie's story, such that it is. Mario is the everyman from New York, a do-good plumber with an extended pasta-eating Italian family and little brother Luigi who he's always looked out for. The film spends longer than expected setting up Mario's Brooklyn background (accompanied by a couple of nice voice cameos from original Mario voice actor Charles Martinet), though never dares sit still for too long. Amidst several plumbing and platforming action sequences, the movie finds time to smartly acknowledge Mario's new Chris Pratt accent (which quickly settles on the ear) and hand-wave the practicalities of a plumber in pristine white gloves. Quickly, however, both brothers end up magically sucked into the Mushroom Kingdom, leaving them separated and placed on two very different paths.

Can You Romance the Fire Emblem Engage DLC Characters?

In the main Fire Emblem Engage campaign, you can use the Pact Ring to see Alear romance certain characters, and that carries over to the Fell Xenologue DLC units as well. An S-rank support can be reached with all five people. However, depending on the person, it may or may not be a very romantic conversation.

Editor’s Note: There will be spoilers for the Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue DLC below.

Upon completing the Fire Emblem Engage Fell Xenologue campaign, Gregory, Madeline, Nel, Rafal, and Zelestia become members of your army and characters you can “romance” in the main storyline. Gundam Breaker Mobile Will Shut Down in June 2023

1 year 1 month ago

gundam breaker mobile

Gundam Breaker Mobile service will end on June 5, 2023. This was a smartphone game more focused on the Gunpla aspect of the franchise. You will no longer be able to purchase items in the shop from May 8, 2023. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

There is not a lot of information on the official webpage for Gundam Breaker Mobile in regards to why it will shut down. It thanks all of the players that have supported and played the game since its debut before revealing the roadmap until its closure. While the shop will close on May 8, you will still be able to use any Haro Chips that you’ve previously purchased until the game officially shuts down.

Gundam Breaker is a PS3 and PS Vita game that focuses on Gunpla rather than the mobile suits that you see on the shows. You can defeat other units and essentially cannibalize their parts to create your own unique mobile suit. This is the mobage version of that game, with basically the same features and gameplay.

Gundam Breaker Mobile will no longer be playable from June 5, 2023. Until then, it is available on mobile devices. The latest Gundam anime as of the time of writing, season 2 of The Witch From Mercury, will start airing from April 9, 2023.

Shigeru Miyamoto Says We Shouldn't Trust Dr. Mario

1 year 1 month ago

While Dr. Mario may be one of the most classic suits donned by the moustachioed plumber, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and creator of Mario says the character should not be trusted.

Speaking to IGN about The Super Mario Bros. film hitting theatres this week, Miyamoto shared how the movie brought out a new side of the character as an everyman hero.

That being said, the new perspective shed some light on some of Mario's other roles, with Miyamoto calling out Dr. Mario in particular as a character shrouded in shadiness.

"Mario’s a blue-collar, he’s a regular person,” Miyamoto said. "So, even when he becomes Dr. Mario, there’s a sort of, like, shadiness, like 'can I trust this person?'”

"That remained [in the film]," he continued. "And I think that’s the kind of image that’s carried down for generations as Mario. And to see that image kind of coincide, and then evolve into something of a hero is something that I’m really happy to see."

The film features more than Mario (played by Chris Pratt), of course, and the cast have shared how they managed to put their own spins on the fan-favourite Mushroom Kingdom characters.
