Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Passes Weathering With You As Sixth Highest-Grossing Anime Film Ever

1 year 5 months ago

This year has been huge for anime films, with One Piece Film Red, Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 all having amazing theater runs. One of these films has attained an incredibly impressive record today, as Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has become the sixth highest-grossing anime film worldwide.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has grossed $196,047,295, taking the position of Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You by about $2.3 million. At this point, there is only an eight-million-dollar difference before Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will overtake Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo.

If you’ve somehow managed to miss this massive film, it has since been released on Crunchyroll. The anime subscription service summarizes the film as follows:

Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses… and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back.

Meet the man making controllers accessible for everyone

1 year 5 months ago

Last week, I sat down to meet with Caleb Kraft from The Controller Project. It has to be said that Kraft is quite a fitting surname for Caleb, as he is a Kraft by name, and he is certainly a craftsman by nature.

Kraft's charity, The Controller Project, creates free downloadable blueprints to modify established controllers such as the PlayStation 5's DualSense or the Nintendo Switch's Joy Cons for players with disabilities or limb differences. In addition to this, it also uses 3D printing to craft these modifications and send them out to those who need them. Talk about nominative determinism.

The Controller Project all started 10 years ago with a young boy named Thomas.

What we've been playing

1 year 5 months ago

Hello! Welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've found ourselves playing over the last few days. This time: Pokémon, Bugsnax and cars.

If you fancy catching up on some of the older editions of What We've Been Playing, here's our archive.

I’m having a lot of fun with Pokémon Violet. A fully open world Pokémon game is a step towards the perfect vision I and many players have had since my tween days playing Blue. Both major and minor changes have been made in this latest instalment; it’s just frustrating they come with some caveats.

One of the Coolest NERF Blasters Is on Sale for Black Friday: 30% Off the Halo Needler

1 year 5 months ago

The NERF LMTD Halo Needler Dart-Firing Blaster was released earlier this month for $99.99. For Black Friday, Amazon is offering an incredible Black Friday NERF deal that drops it to only $69.49, a savings of just over 30%. You better jump on this quickly because we don't know how long it will last. It was a hit when it was first released, even at its retail price.

Black Friday Deal: 30% Off NERF LMTD Halo Needler

This Halo Needler is one of the coolest looking guns in NERF's LMTD lineup, which is a collection of fan-service weapons that are designed after iconic weapons from popular movies and video games. The Needler is a common Convenant infantry weapon in the Halo universe and Hasbro did an excellent job of faithfully creating its look. There are a lot of cool little touches, like the needles and accents that light up whenever you grip the handle, a 10-dart rotating drum (10 Elite darts included, but it will also take standard darts), and a display stand that activates all the light-up features when mounted. You'll even get a game card with in-game content for Halo Infinite.

3.3 Genshin Impact Banners Include Scaramouche, Itto, Faruzan Ayato, Raiden Shogun

As expected, the 3.3 Genshin Impact banners came up during the special program and confirmed Scaramouche and Faruzan will appear as new playable characters. Scaramouche will be referred to as Wanderer. Three returning five-stars were also confirmed. Ayato, Itto, and Raiden Shogun will all get rerun banners in Genshin Impact.

Both Scaramouche (Wanderer) and Faruzen are Anemo units in Genshin Impact. Scaramouche is a five-star catalyst-user. He’s voiced by Patrick Pedraza in English and Tetsuya Kakihara in Japanese. Meanwhile, Faruzan is a four-star archer. She’s voiced by Chandni Parekh in English and Yui Horie in Japanese.

As for the other five-stars coming back, they each cover different weapons and elements. Ayato is a Hydro swordsman. Itto is a Geo claymore-wielder. Raiden Shogun is a Electro Archon who uses a polearm to attack.

The two banners that will appear when Genshin Impact 3.3 launches are Scaramouche and Itto, with Faruzan as a four-star focus. After that, Ayato and Raiden Shogun rerun banners will appear in the second half.

Tulaytullah’s Remembrance Catalyst will appear as a new weapon for Scaramouche/Wanderer. There will also be the Desert Pavilion Chronicle and Flower of Paradise Lost artifact sets debuting in this update.

December Kicks Off with a 3.3 Genshin Impact Update, New Trailer Shared

1 year 5 months ago

3.3 Genshin Impact Update Release Date is December 7, 2022

As expected, the release date for the Genshin Impact 3.3 update came up during the November 25, 2022 Special Program presentation. As usual, it will appear the day after the current banners end. That means on December 7, 2022, people can take part in new quest lines, summon both new and returning characters, and take part in the trading card game for the first time.

To go along with the 3.3 Genshin Impact update release date, there’s a new trailer highlighting the additional content. It shows the debut of a returning character as a playable ally, as well as hints at various story elements coming up in this next patch. Once again, adventures are continuing in Sumeru. Dottore, from the Fatui, remains an ominous figure. However, the focus is primarily on Scaramouche. (The other new character Faruzan does also appear, though.) Inversion of Genesis, the new Archon Quest, will bring everyone up speed about Irminsul and Scaramouche as the Traveler goes with him on behalf of Nahida.

Genshin Impact Version 3.3 Gets Release Date & Details: The Wanderer, Trading Card Game, & More

1 year 5 months ago

Today HoYoverse announced the release date and the first details about Version 3.3 of the popular online RPG Genshin Impact.

The update, titled “All Senses Clear, All Existence Void”, will release on Dec. 7 for PS5, PS4, PC, iOS, and Android.

A new chapter of the Archon Quest will see the former enemy Scaramouche take on a different path under Nahida’s surveillance and become an ally with the nickname The Wanderer. He will also become available as a playable as a five-star Anemo catalyst wielder.

A second new character, Faruzan, is a genius mechanics researcher from the Akademiya who will join as a four-star Anemo archer.

Perhaps even bigger than the new characters is the trading card minigame Genius Invokation, allowing you to challenge both players and NPCs on a battle of wits based on Genshin Impact’s own iconic elements system.

Of course, there will be plenty of the usual events and activities that will keep players busy throughout the wait for version 3.4 and the next infusion of content.

Two more localized but important additions come on the language front, with Italian and Turkish text to be added when 3.3 launches.

Below you can enjoy the trailer and a few screenshots showing off The Wanderer, Faruzan, and the new features coming with the update, including a first look at Genius Invokation.

Genshin Impact is currently available for PS5, PS4, PC, iOS, and Android. The game is currently on version 3.2.

10 Shows Netflix Cancelled & Now Probably Regrets Big Time

1 year 5 months ago

In recent years, Netflix has removed many licensed and original shows from its platform. Although declining viewership is a contributing factor as to why shows go away, it’s quite shocking to see hit shows leave due to licensing battles. As new streaming platforms emerge, bidding on the rights to fan favorite shows has become big business and commonplace between streaming providers.

In 2020, WarnerMedia, which owns HBO and HBO Max, dished out $500 million to reclaim Friends. In 2021, NBC’s Peacock paid up the same for The Office (US). It might seem like a big payday for the streaming giant, but in the long run, is only hurting them.

By the end of the first quarter of 2022, Netflix reportedly lost 200,000 subscribers, their biggest loss in over a decade. It’s not a surprise that the decline is largely part of growing platforms like Disney+, HBO Max, Paramount+, and Peacock.

By the end of their 2022 third quarter, Disney+ subscriptions rose to 152.1 million. HBO, HBO Max, and Discovery+ are up 92.1 million. As competition grows, the blow from lost rights to licensed shows has only become more devastating to Netflix. Here are ten shows that left the platform and hurt Netflix the most.

Black Friday cuts 56% off the Logitech G502 Hero, your favourite gaming mouse

1 year 5 months ago

Another Black Friday means another opportunity for the Logitech G502 Hero - RPS readers' most favouritest gaming mouse - to get nice and cheap. This button-rich desk rodent is a particularly common sight during big PC hardware sales like Black Friday, but it's hard to tire of seeing when it's one of the best gaming mice ever made, and I actually prefer it to the recent G502 X refresh - especially when it's 56% off. That's precisely 56% off in both the UK and US, too.

Alright, technically it's the Logitech G502 Hero SE (Special Edition) that has the best available price in the UK; the standard model is £5 more for some reason. But the only difference between this and the all-black G502 Hero is the addition of some white highlights, so otherwise they share the same comfortable shape, highly customisable 11-button layout, and sharp 25,600dpi sensor.

Now we know why Yakuza games are obsessed with karaoke

1 year 5 months ago

The magic of Yakuza games (now known as Like A Dragon, technically but hey) lies in the dramatic ascents up the Millenium Tower to prevent surprisingly muscular 60-year-old men from detonating Kamurocho. The rain falls. The lads rip their suits off. Then they settle things with their fists, because to do anything otherwise would be silly.

But the real magic of Yakuza lies in its minigames, one of the best being karaoke. And thanks to Game Informer's interview with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, we now know why their games are obsessed with the beloved singsong.

Neon survival horror Sorry We’re Closed looks rad as heck

1 year 5 months ago

Imagine not being fazed that a powerful demon cursed you, while maintaining your style and composure to investigate how to free yourself before your time’s up. I’m not sure I could manage not to totally lose it under those circumstances, but survival horror Sorry We’re Closed from devs à la mode and publishers Akupara Games plonks you into the vaguely 32-bit shoes of cool cucumber Michelle to do exactly that. The game takes the familiar fixed camera angles from classics such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone In The Dark, but combat’s being handled in first-person. Have a look for yourself below, and watch out for your third eye.

£449 off this MSI Katana GF66 looks like the best Black Friday gaming laptop deal of the day

1 year 5 months ago

It’s still the frigid morning of Black Friday 2022, but there might already be a superlative gaming laptop deal up for grabs. Here in the UK, Ebuyer has an RTX 3070-equipped version of the MSI Katana GF66 laptop down to just £950 – a saving of £449.

Not only is that a big, meaty chunk of cash to carve off, it’s also an outstandingly low price for a gaming laptop with the RTX 3070 specifically. I’ve seen this high-end GPU in a few other laptops that are up for Black Friday sales, but they’re tending more towards the £1100 mark. In terms of getting the most graphical power for the least money, then, the Katana GF66 is unlikely be beaten today. Even by the RTX 3080 laptop for £1200 deal that's still going.

I finally know who Lady Dimitrescu is in God of War Ragnarök

On God of War Ragnarök's release, actress Maggie Robertson teased she was part of the game, voicing a "larger-than-life" character.

Robertson became somewhat of an internet darling following her portrayal of the towering and beguiling Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village. She won legions of fans for her part in Capcom's long running series, and even won a few awards for it too.

Needless to say, dear reader, I am one of those fans, and since hearing she was a part of God of War Ragnarök, I have been eager to find her character in the game.

Warzone 2.0 is the latest battle royale game - but is it the best?

1 year 5 months ago

There are plenty of people who've had enough of battle royales by now, but I am not one of them. With neither teenage reaction speeds nor endless leisure time to devote to "gitting gud", battle royales' run-and-gun approach levels the playing field; I'd rather lose a fight because of crap loot and bad luck than succumb to someone who's managed to unlock a fancy gadget because they've clocked up 1000 more in-game hours than I have.

As the dust settled around the battle of the battle royales, Apex Legends was the last one standing for me, and - like many of us with jobs and kids - I simply didn't have the time to git gud at the rest of them, too. Consequently, although I did enjoy my time with Call of Duty's initial toe-dip into Battle Royale-flavoured waters, Blackout, I spent just enough time with Warzone to know I didn't like it quite as much as Apex and left it there. No offence, Infinity Ward; it's not you, it's me.

The problem with being a new - or even lapsed - player, though, is it's impossible to know when the best time to return is. Occasionally I'd pop my head over the hedge for a sneaky look - and it looked good over there! - but it was too late now, surely? I didn't know the map. I didn't know where people camped or sniped from, or where the top-tier loot spawned. I didn't know the shortcuts to help me escape the closing circle (or three; Warzone 2.0 bucks the trend and can offer multiple points of refuge, making the scramble for the final zone that much more dramatic). Apex Legends' shrinking zone, for example, is fairly forgiving, which means you can sometimes use it to a tactical advantage when engaging in a fight; Warzone 2.0's gas cloud, however, is not, and I only learned that the hard way.

Would you switch to Xbox if Call of Duty was on Game Pass?

1 year 5 months ago

The never-ending saga that is the Microsoft-Activision deal took a new turn when reports that the United States' Federal Trade Commission is planning to file an antitrust lawsuit against the deal became known. This could potentially delay a decision on the acquisition for several years.

Meanwhile, the Competition and Markets Authority published redacted documents from Microsoft and Sony, laying out its arguments for and against the acquisition, respectively.

Key to Sony's argument against the deal is giving control of Call of Duty to Microsoft. Leaning on the CMA's concerns about Microsoft's leading role in gaming subscription services, Sony argues that placing Call of Duty on Xbox Game Pass would be hugely detrimental to PlayStation.

NieR: Automata Has Sold 7 Million Units; NieR Replicant at 1.5 Million

1 year 5 months ago

If you love the NieR Series including NieR: Automata and NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… you’re certainly not alone.

Today, during a panel from the NieR: Automata Fan Festival 2022 hosted in Japan, Square Enix revealed that both games have been selling really well.

NieR: Automata leads with a whopping 7 million copies between digital sales and shipments to retailers, while the remake of NieR Replicant is at 1.5 million copies that have left Square Enix’s warehouses.

It’s worth mentioning that the latest update for NieR: Automata, which is now over five years old, saw it at 6 million copies sold as of February 2022.

Of course, the further spike must have been helped by the release of the Nintendo Switch version in October. NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… has not yet been released on Nintendo’s console.

It’s worth mentioning that some media outlets reported that there would be a release today, as pictures of a promotional truck were shared by producer Yosuke Saito earlier this morning with a black sticker covering part of the billboard. Despite the fact that Saito-san clearly mentioned that there would be no new announcement some couldn’t help themselves and hyped up a reveal that did not come.

It features a multitude of distinctive weapons, a host of unique unlockable characters, and a surprisingly sticky core progression system all wrapped up in an appealing 8-bit Castlevania-esque aesthetic.

Get an Apple Watch for Only $149 With This Walmart Black Friday Deal

1 year 5 months ago

Walmart has a couple of outstanding Black Friday deals on Apple Watches. Right now you can get the 1st gen Apple Watch SE for only $149.00 with free shipping. That's a very low price for a watch that's jam packed with useful features and superb build quality. If you want something more current, the Apple Watch Series 8 is also on sale starting at $349. The Series 8 is currently the newest generation; only the pricey Apple Watch Ultra is fancier.

Walmart Black Friday Deal: Apple Watch SE for $149

Although there's a new, considerably more expensive 2nd gen Apple Watch SE that was released this year, the 1st gen Apple Watch SE is still a very relevant watch. It was released in September of 2020, making it just over two years old. It might not have all the bells and whistles of the newer models, but it is easily more than enough watch for most people. If you have an iPhone, the 1st gen Apple Watch SE is still a better all-purpose watch than any non-Apple watch out there, regardless of price.

The Apple Watch SE sports a gorgeous Retina OLED display. It's powered by the same S5 chipset that you'd find in the Apple Watch 5. Its sleek aluminum casing is IPX7 rated, which means it will survive submerged in 3.3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes, or a maximum depth of 50 meters. It also has the same accelerometer, gyroscope, and altimeter you'll find on the more expensive Apple Watch models.

A New Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED Deal Just Arrived at Woot

1 year 5 months ago

Woot currently has the only currently available Black Friday deal on a Nintendo Switch OLED gaming console. You can get it right now for only $319.99. Mind you this is a brand new Switch OLED with the full 1 year Nintendo warranty. Woot! is a legit company that's been around for years. It is currently owned and operated by Amazon, and that's why you get free shipping if you sign in with your Amazon Prime account.

Black Friday Deal: Nintendo Switch OLED for $319.99

Is the Switch OLED Worth it Over the Switch?

If you can afford the $50 premium of the Switch OLED over the non-OLED model, then we think it's definitely worth the upgrade. The biggest improvement, of course, is the display. The Nintendo Switch OLED features an OLED display that offers better image quality than the original LCD display. That includes deeper blacks, more vibrant colors, and a better color gradient. The text is sharper and easier to read as well. The screen isn't that much bigger (7" on the OLED vs 6.2" on the non-OLED), but it does feel a lot bigger thanks to a thinner bezel. Other upgrades worth mentioning are a new and improved kickstand, a hard-wired ethernet port on the docking station, and an exclusive white Switch shell and matching Joy-Cons.

Will there be more Black Friday Nintendo Switch OLED deals?

It's hard to say. We haven't really seen the Nintendo Switch OLED on sale at all unless you count imported models from the UK. If you're looking for a Switch non-OLED deal, then you may or may not be happy to hear that the exact same bundle from previous years will be making its return. That's right, the Nintendo Switch console bundled with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will show up at several retailers for $299.99.

As of writing, the fastest runthrough of Neon White’s “Smackdown” level is 9.56 seconds, earned by player “earlobe” on September 6, 2022.

Standing in contrast is the work that went into it. According to designer and creative director Ben Esposito, the earliest iteration was in March 2019, more than three years before its release in June 2022. In that time, there were more than 50 different iterations. Sometimes changes were small. Other times they fundamentally altered the level. NieR: Automata Ver1.1a Anime Reveals Gorgeous Adam & Eve

1 year 5 months ago

Today Aniplex released a new trailer of the upcoming NieR: Automata Ver1.1a anime, together with new artwork.

This time around, we get the introduction of two antagonists from the game, Adam and Eve. Unsurprisingly, they’re still voiced by their original actors Daisuke Namikawa and Tatsuhisa Suzuki.

If you’re unfamiliar with them, Namikawa-san also vocied Luka in the Bayonetta series, Yu Narukami in Persona 4 and its spinoffs, and many more roles.

Suzuki-san is the voice of Aymeric in Final Fantasy XIV and Noctis in Final Fantasy XV, just to name two very popular characters.

You can check out both their trailer and their artwork below, following those for 2B and 9S, Commander White, and Pascal.
