Outer Wilds and What Remains of Edith Finch Get Next-Gen Upgrades

1 year 9 months ago

During today's Annapurna Interactive showcase, we got two surprising upgrade announcements to two beloved games: Outer Wilds and What Remains of Edith Finch.

First up, Outer Wilds is getting a 60fps upgrade on Xbox Series X, S, and PS5 that's coming September 15, and the upgrade is free if you own the game already. Developer Mobius Digital also confirmed that the game is still planned for Switch at some point in the future, but haven't given a date for that just yet.

Meanwhile, What Remains of Edith Finch is getting a 60fps upgrade and 4k on Xbox Series X and PS5, and that update is not only free, it's also available today.

Both of these are pleasant surprise upgrades for two widely acclaimed games. We called Edith Finch "one of the finest magical-realism stories in all of games" back when we reviewed it on launch in 2017. OuterWilds was similarly beloved in 2019, and we called it "a true adventure in ways most games never achieve." Its DLC released late last year, Echoes of the Eye, was a "wonderful return" to the system of the original.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Has Been Delayed

1 year 9 months ago

The highly anticipated co-op shooter Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has been delayed.

The upcoming Left 4 Dead-style co-op game, set in the Warhammer 40k universe, was due to be released on September 13. But the PC version has now been pushed back until November 30, 2022, with the console edition launching on Xbox Series X|S shortly after.

“Delaying a game is perhaps one of the most difficult decisions a developer faces and one we are not excited about making,” said Fatshark CEO Martin Wahlund via Twitter. “Still, we hope this speaks to our commitment to taking the time necessary and doing whatever it takes to get you the best possible game.”

Specifically, it looks as though the Fatshark team needs more time to improve the game before it ships… and while that means a bit of a wait for Warhammer 40k fans, it’s certainly as good a reason as any.

“While we have been humbled by the great feedback on the game so far, we also need more time to improve stability, performance, and to mature key systems,” he explained. “Each is critical to making sure we have the best possible experience for you, the players.”

Despite the delay, it’s not back to the drawing board for Darktide.

Wahlund also revealed that a series of beta and technical tests will be launching in the coming months… and they need Warhammer 40,000 fans to help out. If you want to participate in the beta, just sign up at darktide.live/signup.

The Team Behind Kentucky Route Zero Is Making a New Game

1 year 9 months ago

The team behind Kentucky Route Zero is working on a new project. We don't know what it is yet, but it looks like once again, there's a dog in it.

In today's Annapurna Interactive showcase, studio Cardboard Computer teased its upcoming project, which does not yet have an official title, date, or platforms attached. We did get some glimpses of them working on development, specifically on a model of a dog that's significantly goofier than the one in Kentucky Route Zero, but that's about it.

The team did drop some teases. They suggested during the showcase tha thtis new project would have a "different tempo" than Kentucky Route Zero, one that's "faster" and "hopefully funnier." They also said that this is the first project where Cardboard Computer is “really focusing on performance as a core part of the piece," though given the studio's past history it's a bit unclear as to whether they mean visual performance, voice acting performance, or literal performance art. Kentucky Route Zero, after all, was structured as a five-act play, so any of these are possible.

We might have to wait a bit to find out exactly what the Kentucky Route Zero folks are up to - after all, their first game took them around ten years to complete and was released in multiple episodic installments over that time.

You can get a full rundown of everything announced at today's Annapurna Interactive showcase in our roundup.

1 year 9 months ago

Warhammer 40K: Darktide, Fatshark's co-op shooter set in the grim darkness of the far future, has been delayed until a little further into our own future. It was previously aiming to release in September, but in an update on Twitter the developers say Darktide will now launch on November 30th.

Frogwares remaking Sherlock Holmes and Cthulhu crossover The Awakened

1 year 9 months ago

Frogwares, the developer behind last year's investigatory open-world adventure Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One, has announced it's remaking Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, a Lovecraft-themed crossover the studio originally released back in 2007.

The Awakened was Frogwares' third Sherlock Holmes adventure, and the developer's ongoing association with the detective has resulted in an additional six instalments in the series since then, meaning it's got years of experience to build on as it reimagines its 2007 title for modern audiences - not to mention its further dalliances with Lovecraft in 2019's The Sinking City.

Frogwares' "full remake and substantial rewrite" of The Awakened will shift the events of the original to serve as a continuation of its young Sherlock arc, started in last year's Chapter One. As such, it'll follow a young Sherlock Holmes, along with his new acquaintance John Watson, on his first big case in London - an adventure that'll span Victorian London, a Swiss psychiactric ward, the New Orleans bayous, and the Scottish Highlands as the fledging detective wrestles with dark, Lovecraft-inspired horrors.

Is Jesse Pinkman Coming to Multiversus?

1 year 9 months ago

As everyone now has access to MultiVersus, the speculation has begun for what characters could possibly be added next. Seeing as Warner Bros. and subsidiaries own an unbelievable amount of media properties, there’s a huge list of possibilities. We’re here to answer if Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad could be coming to MultiVersus.

Jesse Pinkman in MultiVersus

While it’s not necessarily impossible that Jesse Pinkman or other Breaking Bad characters could make their way to MultiVersus, is it incredibly unlikely.

The biggest reason is that Breaking Bad is owned by AMC, which has nothing to do with Warner Bros. or any subsidiary. Every other character found in MultiVersus comes from Cartoon Network, HBO, or DC Comics, all of these are owned by Warner Bros.

Of course fans of major shows or movies would love to play as their favorite characters, but the majority of characters added to MultiVersus in the first few waves (at the very least) will presumably be only Warner Bros. owned IP (Intellectual Property).

As far as possible characters go, Jon Snow and more Game of Thrones characters besides the already included Arya Stark are safe bets.

This is everything there is to know about if Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad could be coming to MultiVersus.

How Long is Xenoblade Chronicles 3? Full Game Length & Play Time

1 year 9 months ago

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the latest massive JRPG from developer Monolith Soft, and fans can expect another epic adventure across Aionios full of adventure, mystery, and comradery. But just how epic? Let’s take a look at just how long Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is, and how much time a full playthrough will take.

How Long is a Full Playthrough of Xenoblade Chronicles 3?

Like the first two entries in the series, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will keep players occupied for dozens of hours, with its expansive main storyline and numerous sidequests.

An average playthrough will take an experienced player around 70-80 hours, completing the main story, engaging in side content, and taking time to stop and smell the roses.

The main story itself will take somewhere between 60-65 hours to complete if you were to rush through everything and know what you were doing.

On the other hand, a full completionist playthrough will take in excess of 100+ hours to complete, and that’s doing and seeing everything the game has to offer.

In addition to NPC quest givers, you can also take on quests from heroes. By completing these quests, you will be able to unlock that hero’s specific class for use. Tracking down each hero and completing their associated task is a satisfying part of the game and can add on a significant amount of playtime.

Some battles in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 can last for 15-20 minutes, so depending on the difficulty you are playing on, that means that retrying battles can very easily add to the playtime quite significantly.

And that’s it, everything you need to know about how long a full playthrough of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will take. For more helpful guides, check out the list of suggested articles below.

All Ouroboros Arts & How to Use Them in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

1 year 9 months ago

Arts used normally are already extremely powerful attacks that can turn the tide of a battle. When it comes to Ouroboros Arts, this is increased sometimes tenfold with single hits consistently dealing tens of thousands of damage. Here’s everything you need to know about all Ouroboros Arts and how to use them in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

All Ouroboros Arts & How to Use Them in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

First off before jumping into what all of the Ouroboros Arts in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 are and what they’re capable of, it’s important to take a look at how you can use them.

How to Use Ouroboros Arts in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

The most important part about all of this is that your character needs to be in their Ouroboros Form to use these Arts. This is done through the mechanic known as Interlinking. Simply press left on the d-pad to enter this super powerful form.

Once in Ouroboros Form, all of the character’s Arts will be replaced with Ouroboros Arts. Using them enough will eventually charge the character’s Talent Art which will deal ridiculous amounts of damage and end the Interlink.

Just be careful when you Interlink, because doing so at a low Interlink level won’t give the maximum amount of benefits. Using Fusion Arts to reach the maximum of level three is always worth the wait. Down below is the full list of the Ouroboros Arts in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
